SHARĪ‘AH ACADEMY HOLDS ORIENTATION COURSE ON “EMPOWERING YOUNG LAWYERS ON RECONCILIATION AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

Sharī‘ah Academy of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) organized an orientation course on “Empowering Young Lawyers on Reconciliation and Conflict Management: Islamic and International Perspective” here at the Faisal Masjid Campus of the university.

On the first day of the two-day long activity, it was attended by as many as 150 students of Faculty of Shariah and Law and lawyers from Rawalpindi and Islamabad bar.

The resource person, Mr. Zafarullah Khan, Executive Director, PIPS in his lecture elaborated about important perspectives of reconciliation during conflicts through examples from Islam. He added that every individual should try to become a peacemaker rather than a conflict maker while one must learn the art to resolve conflicts peacefully. He hoped that the Pakistani nation has the potential to become a peaceful society across the globe.He opined that dialogue is vital for peace building and laws in the societies must be equal for all. He shared his views about ancient and modern laws. He also defined assumptions of various laws through a comprehensive presentation. Mr. Zafarullah also briefed seminar participants how political and social conflicts are resolved peacefully.

Dr. Muhammad Rizwan, Assistant Professor, University of Hairpur and Director Center for Counseling and Social Wellbeing was also resource person of the seminar who delivered a comprehensive lecture on Stress Management and conflict resolution. He expressed that studying the laws and practicing the laws are two different sort of challenges. He briefed that stress management is an important topic that must be discussed as almost everyone experiences this on various stages of life. Dr. Rizwan gave various examples of different types of stress in our daily life. He also discussed the overall impact of stress on human personality and elaborated how to overcome stress in various situations. He told the seminar participants that aggression and anger are indicators of one’s weakness. He also said how a positive and false hope can create us strong and weak.

Earlier, Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Zia, Director General, Shariah Academy, IIUI welcomed resource persons Mr. Zafarullah Khan, and Dr. Muhammad Rizwan male and female lawyers from Islamabad bar, faculty members and students of faculty of shariah and Law. Addressing the seminar, Dr. Farkhanda, said that we have very clear Islamic teachings for resolving societal conflicts and issues amicably while, being Muslims we believe that conflict should be avoided and resolved peacefully. People should be given due respect and they must be treated equally.

On the occasion, Dr.Habib ur Rahman (Chairman Department of Training) also briefed about the aims, objectives, and activities of the Shariah Academy.

At the end of seminar DG Shariah Academy, presented shields to the resource persons of the seminar and thanked male and female lawyers from Islamabad bar, faculty members and students of faculty of Shariah and Law of the University.
