Introduction
The administration of justice, from an Islamic Shar‘iah perspective, is one of the foremost duties of a Muslim state which comes in priority only next to formation of the state itself. A well-functioning independent judiciary is an essential requisite of a Muslim state in order to ensure fulfillment of the basic Shari‘ah requirement of consistent impartial administration of justice based on upholding the rule of law and adherence to due legal process to preserve rights of all citizens.

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) himself held the responsibility of the administration of justice and also appointed judges in various parts of the Muslim state which include some of his famous companions, like, Muadh b. Jabal and Ali b. Abi Talib (RA). The Muslim rulers, throughout the history, adhered to the same practice aiming at rule of law and dispensation of justice to the masses through free and fair trials.

Unfortunately, in some parts of the Muslim world, seeking justice from the courts of law has become a difficult and expensive affair and the aggrieved faces several obstacles in availing due relief either due to the involved expenses or due to  long delays in dispensation of justice because of prolonged processes and procedures.

To highlight and address the contemporary challenges and hurdles in prompt and affordable dispensation of justice, the Shariah Academy, International Islamic University Islamabad, Pakistan has decided to organize an International conference in collaboration with Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. This event will engage judicial experts and scholars from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Sudan, Jordan and Pakistan to explore the judicial systems of these countries and to share and exchange ideas, experiences and expertise for suggesting improvements in various judicial systems current in the Muslim world.
