The Office of Research, Innovation, & Commercialization (ORIC) at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) recently organized a seminar titled “Books Publication: Opportunities and Requirements for the Authors.” The event, held under the IIUI ORIC Forum, was conducted in collaboration with the Faculty of Languages & Literature (FLL), IIUI.
The seminar opened with a warm welcome from the Vice President (Research & Enterprise), Dr. Ahmed Shuja Sayed, who shed light on the various initiatives of the IIUI ORIC Forum aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of faculty members and researchers. He added that ORIC is committed to fostering the intellectual growth of faculty members and researchers, believing that such seminars and workshops contribute significantly to the overall development of the research and innovation ecosystem at IIUI.
Distinguished experts from the Department of English and the Department of Urdu (FLL) took the stage to address crucial aspects of book publication. Dr. Saiyma Aslam, Chairperson of the Dept. of English, provided valuable insights into “Publishing Thesis as a Monograph,” covering essential do’s and don’ts for authors navigating the intricate process. She drew distinctions between a dissertation and a book, offering a detailed roadmap through the Book Publishing Process.
Dr. Bibi Ameena, Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Urdu, FLL, delved into the mandatory requirements for publications and shared effective approaches to engage with publishers. Dr. Humaira Ishfaq, Assistant Professor from the Dept. of Urdu, emphasized the vital aspect of commercialization in literature. She underscored the role of publishers in marketing literary works, asserting that it should be their responsibility, sparing authors from the burden.
Sharing personal experiences, Dr. Farrukh Nadeem, Assistant Professor in the Dept. of English, delivered a presentation on para textual features essential for a successful book publication.
The seminar witnessed the active participation of more than 60 nominated faculty members and researchers from various faculties, institutions, academies, and centers affiliated with IIUI.
Closing the event, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amir, Director of ORIC, expressed gratitude to the guest experts and concluded the enlightening talks. At the end of Souvenirs were presented to the experts.
