26TH CULTURAL WEEK AT IIUI
In connection with 26th Cultural Week of International Islamic University, number of activities including different competitions, seminars and lectures held at IIUI, which from the begging got momentum of zeal and zest. More Details
An international literary Festival was organized here at International Islamic University in which students of various countries participated and showed literary skills.
Event was also attended by President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and other IIUI officials. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said IIUI students have great potential and talent; they have capabilities to pave the way for the development of Ummah. He encouraged the performances of the students and advised them to portray the real image of university by disseminating the attributes of moderation and tolerance. He assured students that university would keep working to provide them platforms for showing their abilities.
Poetry of various countries was the most appreciated session of the program in which delegates, who joined IIUI 26th cultural week, presented poetry of their respective languages. At the end, Shields were presented to the delegates and best performers of program.
International Islamic University’s 26th cultural week which provided a platform for bringing dozens of cultures in capital, concluded here at Faisal Mosque campus of IIUI with a prize a distribution ceremony.
Deputy Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi, addressing the ceremony said provision of quality education and best educational facilities was top priority of government. “IIUI is one of the institutions which are prime focus of the government, and soon university would become a leading, renowned global educational institution across the globe” he added.
He stressed upon students to revive the Muslim legacy of knowledge by working hard and taking interest in modern advancements. Deputy Speaker assured that NA standing committee on education would soon visit the university and work for solution of its problems.
In the ceremony, overjoyed student audience and distinguished guests along with top IIUI officials enjoyed the documentary which contained a summary of the event. According to results of the mega event, international exhibition was won by Afghanistan, Chinese who had been witnessed performing famous lion dance at their stall in the exhibition, clinched second while the third was grabbed by the Saudi Arabian students. In the Faculty competition of best stall, Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Iqra Centre of IIUI outclassed all the contestants by winning the best stall title while one of the most populated faculties Applied Sciences clinched second and third prize of best faculty stall was given to Shariah and Law students. Best performers of cultural night, Naat Khawani, Qirat, declamation, drama and many other contestants of various events were awarded with prizes and shields in the ceremony. Ceremony was also attended by Thai Ambassador to Pakistan, Ambassador of Oman and various other diplomats.
Addressing the ceremony, Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai said prevailing circumstances require dissemination of tolerance and harmony among people and IIUI is key institution which can be utilized to play its role for building peace and stability. “IIUI has potential to provide solutions to the problems of Ummah as it has scholars who can guide government in complex issues” Rector IIUI maintained.
He urged the students to be innovative in their respective fields while saying “good is not enough but excellence is the name of successes, IIUI students can lead the Muslim Ummah towards a way of unity, progress and prosperity”. He added “IIUI is proud of its students”.
President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh said IIUI is an institution of global repute; it can be called face of Pakistan. “ University spread message of love, peace and brotherhood in its 26th cultural week where students of 50 countries brought their cultures on one place in international exhibitions, seminars, sports and many other constructive activities” President IIUI added. He stressed upon students to adopt attitude of moderation and discourage extremism and violence in the society.
Students celebrated their victory in various competitions and vowed to remain more active in activities such as cultural week. “Cultural Week gave me confidence, I had never thought I would win a prize in Naat Khawni” said Syed Muhammad Bilal Shah, a student of media and communication studies while talking to public relations representative of the university.
Dr. Tahir Khalily, students’ advisor who had responsibility to supervise the mega event, said in his speech that hard work of IIUI students, faculty members and administration made the event, a success.
The ceremony was also attended by diplomats and delegates of various countries, Vice President IIUI Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan and university deans and directors.
At the end, Shields were presented to distinguished guests including Deputy Speaker, Ambassadors, other diplomats of Thailand, Oman, Saudi Arabia and delegates of various countries.
Sadequain Art Society of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organised Sadequian Art Exhibition in central library of university. Event was held in connection with 26th Cultural Week of IIUI under the umbrella of Students Adviser office.
President IIUI Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, while inaugurating exhibition appreciated the work of the students and shown his keen interest to display their work internationally.
Creative work of Islamians was also lauded by the prominent figures of art including Shoukat Ali Minhas from National Council of Arts Lahore and Nasir Khan Seemab. Russian Delegation, which was on visit of university to participate in cultural week also visited the exhibition and loved the Artistic work of students.
Director General, Mr. Gulzar Ahmed Khuwaja on the occasion of his visit to the exhibition, shown his great interest in Art and Islamic Calligraphy and suggested a separate Gallery for the promotion of our Art Work.
The exhibition was divided in four categories Islamic Calligraphy, Painting, Sketching and Photography.

IIUI CULTURAL WEEK TO CONCLUDE TODAY AT MALE CAMPUS, DEPUTY SPEAKER NA TO GRACE CEREMONY
Students of International Islamic University (IIU), after enjoying cultural diversity and celebrations of 26th cultural week, would be awarded in the closing and prize distribution ceremony which would be graced by Deputy Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi.
The ceremony would be held at 3:30, Friday, at Faisal Mosque campus of the university while it would be presided over by Rector IIUI Dr. Massom Yasinzai. President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and other top IIUI officials would also join the ceremony. Students’ Advisor office has finalized the arrangements for the ceremony. A large number of the student, who won various competitions during the cultural week, would be awarded prizes in the ceremony.
IIUI DECIDES TO LAUNCH OPEN AND DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMS
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has decided to launch some programmes through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) in its various departments including Departments of Education, Hadeeth and its Sciences, Tafseer and Quranic Studies, History & Pak Studies, Urdu and Persian.
In this regard, a meeting of committee on Distance Education headed by Prof. Dr N. B Jumani, Dean FSS and Project Director of the Directorate of Distance Education was held in Faculty of Social Sciences.
The committee members agreed that there has to be 48 hours of interaction for every 03 credit hours course which may be arranged in main camps of IIUI for all courses. The Faculties/Departments will be responsible to develop materials for their respective programs.
Meeting was attended by Dr Muhammad Imtiaz Zafar, Deputy Director General, Dawah Academy, Dr Haroon ur Rashid, Dy Dean, Faculty of Usulludin, Dr Fateh ul Rehman, Assistant Professor / Head Department of Hadith and its Sciences, Dr Hafiz Taj Afsar, Assistant Professor / HOD Department of Tafseer & Quranic Sciences, Dr. Tayyab Munir and Dr Ravish Nadim, Department of Urdu, Dr. S.M Jawad Hameedani, Assistant Professor, Department of Persian, Syed Akmal Hussain Shah and Ms Rafia Riaz, Department of History, Dr M Munir Kayani, Sheikh Tariq Mehmood, Ms Fouzia Ajmal and Mr Zafar Iqbal from Department of Education.
Dr. N.B Jumani elucidated the committee members about importance of Distance Education programs and said it is a blessing for IIUI that university has given this opportunity to try to reach the people who could not join regular programmes of Higher Education.
He shed light on main models and modes of Distance Education in the world. He discussed about characteristics of learners of Distance Mode learning with the members. He said that Directorate of Distance Education will be following Centralized Model in Blended mode.
The committee members stressed upon need of a training program arranged through Directorate of Distance Education to clear them about potentials, challenges about launching programs and implementation framework.
At the end, all committee members paid gratitude to the Project Director of the Directorate of Distance Education for enlightening and briefing them about Distance Education.
IIUI, BALL STATE UNIVERSITY SIGN MOU OF MUTUAL COOPERATION
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and Ball State University of United States, on Wednesday, singed an MoU to realize mutual benefit of educational partnership between both institution.
MoU was signed at admin block of IIUI in which Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh President IIUI signed the memorandum on the behalf of university while Dr. Kenneth Holland, Director Center for International Development represented the Ball State University during the ceremony. It was also attended by Director General (AF&P) Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, Executive Director Iqbal Institute for Research and Dialogue (IIIRD) Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Dean Faculty of Social Science Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani, officials of department of Politics and IR of university and Dr. Nauman Sattar, Director Area Study Centre Quaid e Azam University Islamabad.
It was agreed that both the universities would engage faculty in collaboration and activities of mutual cooperation regarding scholarships and these steps would be initiated within the set time frame. Both, IIUI and Ball State agreed that co-participation in digital video conferencing on mutually relevant themes would also be commenced.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kenneth said mutual cooperation among both universities would be proved as exemplary venture and agreed aspects among both universities would be implemented on priority basis. He also seconded the suggestion that both institutions would identify coordinators to set reciprocal goals.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh apprised the participants regarding the recent MoUs signed by the university with various foreign educational intuitions and Pakistani universities. He said IIUI administration believes in sharing the bilateral experiences and improving the standards of education by interacting with other faculties at global level.
Dr. Mumtaz, while speaking in the ceremony told regarding the recent conference organized by IIIRD in which top US community leaders and Pakistani scholars discussed Pak-US relations at grassroots level. He said as many as 110 American scholars have been invited by IIUI in the conferences organized by IIIRD where they have addressed and participated in interactive sessions and seminars.
Earlier, Dr. Kenneth Holland also spoke to a seminar on “Impact of US-drawdown in Afghanistan on Pak-US relations”, which was organized by department of politics and IR of IIUI. Dr. Kenneth identified the key components of relationship between USA and Pakistan. He also discussed elimination of terrorism in the region and threw light on issues being faced Pakistan in the field of energy.
Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed also spoke in the seminar; he said “unnecessary projection of India as neighbor of Afghanistan is not right while mutual understanding between India and Pakistan on Afghan development is necessary for the peace process and stability in the region”.
The seminar was also addressed by Dr. Manzoor Khan Afridi, Chairman Dept. of Politics and IR while staff of the department from both male and female sides and large number of the students also attended the seminar.
ISLAM, RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE AND HARMONY DISCUSSED AT IIU
Participants in the opening of an exhibition titled” Message of Islam and Religious Tolerance & Harmony” jointly organized by Shariah Academy of International Islamic University Islamabad and Ministry of Religious Affairs Kingdom of Oman held at IIUI, agreed to discourage the attitude of violence, aggression and chaos from the societies and initiate joint efforts to promote co-existence, human respect in the societies. It was also focused point that Islam is religion of peace and tolerance which has no room for violence and rigidity while with peaceful and moderate attitude; the sustained and prosperous environment can be achieved.
The ceremony was attended by the Advisor Religious Affairs Kingdom of Oman Dr. Muhammad Saeed bin Khalfan Mammari, Leader of the House in Senate, Senator Raja Muhammad Zafar ul Haq, Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhamaad Yousif, President IIUI Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Director General Shariah Academy Dr. Tahir Mansoori, Student Advisor IIUI and Dr. Tahir Khalily including officials and students of the university.
In his speech Maulana Sherani said, the ongoing war on terror in the world is particularly against Muslims. He further said” there is planned conspiracy against Muslims that they entangled in war like situation and living in constant unrest; they shedding the blood of their Muslim fellows “. Maulana further invoked” we should give up the attitude of biasness to tackle the world powers, working against Islam and Muslims “. He said unity of human being is applicable approach in the world but unfortunately some elements are moving against it. Molana Sherani added” Muslims have to be united on the concept of Ummah for their survival in the world “.
Raja Zafa ul Haq said Muslims living crucial time and to get rid of it, there is need of dialogue. He said dialogue and exchange of ideas also key to overcome the existing chaos and restlessness among Muslims nations.”Tolerance, co-existence like social values are highly necessary to be endorsed in the Muslim societies to coup the prevailing circumstances “Raja Zafar ul Haq added.
He said a fine model of moral values to be presented to world at large to show them the real essence of Islam. He also appreciated the efforts of Islamic university in the promotion of moderation and toleration. Dr. Saeed Khaflan said tolerance and co-existence are pillar principles of stability and peace in the society where no room for fanaticism and extremism. ”We want to pass on the message of tolerance and co-existence to world at large through this exhibition which is one of the very basic and golden social values of Islam that are grantor of stability and integrity of the society “he added. He said this exhibition has also been established in 36 different countries and government of Oman is ready for any kind of cooperation in this regard.
Sardar Yousif said” we need to make purification of ourselves to counter the negative propaganda being carried on against Islam“. Federal minister emphasized to bring revolutionary changes in lives to recognize associated role.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh said the core message of Islam is peace and tranquility and need to be transmitted it to new generation in well manners. He added” to prevent new generation from the negative inclinations, everybody should come forward; in this regard IIUI providing best platform“.
Dr. Tahir Mansori and Dr. Tahir Khalily also shared views in the ceremony and welcomed the guests.

On the same day, world cultural exhibition will be held in which students of various countries and communities would set up as many as 50 stalls.
Opening ceremony of the cultural week would be joined by ambassadors and high commissioners of many countries including Thailand, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Malaysia and Iraq while Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh would also grace the mega event at female campus.
University has also arranged cultural evening for the female students on March 21 which will be graced by wife of the Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Aljourah Abdullah A Alarifi and wife of President IIUI Mrs. Muzzna Qasim Al-Draiweesh while closing ceremony of 26th cultural week at female campus would be held on March 25 in which the prizes will be given to the winning students of various competitions.
On the other hand, a grand Mushaira will also be held on April 20 for male students.
A group of 25-member Saudi delegates from Imam Muhammad Bin Saud University is also participating in the cultural week while Russian delegates have also reached to join IIUI cultural week celebrations who yesterday visited IIUI and called on Dr. Al-Draiweesh and also visited stalls of different countries at male campus.

PRESIDENT IIUI DELIVERS LECTURE ON “PAK-SAUDI RELATIONS” AT NUML
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have developed a kind of relations which have deep strong roots of common culture, heritage, trust, vision, beliefs, and economic welfare. Above all security of the one is the security of other.
Prof Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University (IIUI) expressed these views while delivering a lecture on the topic “History of Pak-Saudi Relations since Independence” to a big gathering of Deans, Directors, Heads, faculty members of both IIUI and National University of Modern Languages (NUML) and students of different departments at NUML, Monday. The lecture was also attended by Director General NUML Brig Azam Jamal.
Dr Al-Draiweesh said that relations between Pakistan and KSA dated as back as the concept of Pakistan was conceived and to pre and post-independent period and now people of both the countries had been linked with each other like an unbreakable chain. He said that KSA was the first country to initiate a campaign for the recognition of Pakistan and then officially recognize her status as a sovereign country.
Dr Al-Draiweesh said ever since the establishment of diplomatic ties, both the countries had enjoyed most cordial relations which were not confined to political, economic, commercial, security and religious matters. He added, common faith and culture had further enhanced by close geographical proximity, historic trade ties, religious association and the economic facilitation.
He said that more than 3 million Pakistanis were working in Saudi Arabia and more than 44 joint ventures in different sectors between both the countries were in progress. In recent years, both countries have exchanged high-level delegations and developed plans to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, education, real estate, tourism, information technology, communications and agriculture. Pakistan maintained close military ties with Saudi Arabia, providing extensive support, arms and training for the Saudi Arabian military.
DG Brig Azam Jamal while presenting a vote of thank, said that there was no denying the fact that the hearts of people of both the nation beat together and they stood by with each other through thick and thin. He expressed gratitude for preferring NUML for delivering informative lecture and such initiatives would further boost the academic ties between NUML and IIUI and ultimately between both the countries.
Later, the President IIUI also had a meeting with the Rector NUML Maj Gen (R) Masood Hasan in his office. They discussed academic matters of mutual interest and agreed that the two universities would closely collaborate with each other in pursuit of common objectives relating to high quality of education. IIUI CULTURAL WEEK: MEDICAL CAMP, BOOK FAIR INAUGURATED, CULTURAL EXHIBITION
President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh inaugurated grand book fair and medical camp at the university amid preparations and excitement of IIUI 26th cultural week which is going to be inaugurated today on (Tuesday). The event will be inaugurated by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousif.
More than 25 stalls were set in the book fair where President IIUI, Vice President Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan and Director General Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja and deans and directors visited the stalls. While the medical camp which was organized by the sociology department of the university in collaboration with Al-Shifa eye trust was also inaugurated by Dr. Al –Draiweesh where a large number of students participated in the camp.
He lauded the services of doctors and department for facilitating the students and President appreciated the efforts of all medical team. He advised the students care their health as the body has rights.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh termed students a valuable asset of the nation and prosperous future is associated with their potential. He stressed upon the student to opt modesty in their routine life as the heath is top on this.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the faculty members and students from Imam Muhammad Bin Saud University Saudi Arabia also called on President IIUI and told him that they were excited to join the 26th cultural week of the university. Dr. Al-Draiweesh thanked the delegates and hoped they would help to further promote cooperation among both universities.

Saudi Deputy Minister for Islamic Affairs Dr. Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Al-Ammar here on Sunday along with Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Ghadeer visited the Faisal Mosque campus of International Islamic University where he was briefed about the university and history of Faisal Mosque.
Dr. Abdul Aziz was welcomed by the President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh with Deputy Director General Da’wah and many IIUI officials. Director General, Maktaba-al-Dawa, Saudi Arabia Muhammad Bin Saad al-Dosri was also present on the occasion.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh apprised him about the historical building of the mosque and informed about the services IIUI providing in the Mosque. The Minister appreciated the work of Dawah Academy while saying IIUI is a prestigious institution and its services for Faisal Mosque and Muslim students are exemplary.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh also briefed Saudi Deputy Minister about the 26th cultural week of university which will kick off on March 18.
26TH CULTURAL WEEK TO START ON MARCH 18, ABOVE FORTY CULTURES TO BE EXHIBITED
Students of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), belonging to various communities and countries, will exhibit innovative products and cultures in the 26th cultural week on Tuesday.
The mega event will be inaugurated by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf on Tuesday 18th March at new campus of the university.
The mega exhibition will reflect the cultural diversity of the Muslim world and some other countries where students hailing from above 40 countries will participate in this international exhibition to demonstrate their cultures, including dress, poetry, paintings, photographs, foods, art and literature.
Saudi Arabia, Iran, UAE, China, Afghanistan, countries from ASEAN, SAARC and all the provinces of Pakistan would set up their stalls, in addition, Ambassadors, High Commissioners of various countries will also join the grand inauguration of the event.
The cultural week (female) will be inaugurated on April 20 (Thursday) at female campus of the university.
Celebrations in connection with 26th cultural week are in full swing in both the campuses of the university and in this regard a book fair and flower exhibition will be held on Monday at male campus of the university.
Male campus will also hold like always most awaited event of male students (cultural night) on March 19 where talent of above 40 countries will be seen.
Female campus will also hold cultural evening for the students on March 21 which will be graced by wife of the Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Aljourah Abdullah A Alarifi and wife of President IIUI Mrs. Muzzna Qasim Al-Draiweesh.
Closing ceremony of 26th cultural week at female campus would be held on March 25 in which the prizes will be given to the winning students of various competitions.
Activities in the form of lectures, competitions in various categories such as Qirat, Naat, drama, photography, declamations, flower exhibitions, local games and Sports Gala on both male and female sides are continued in connection with the celebrations of the 26th cultural week of the university.
A grand Mushaira will be held on April 27 (Friday) at the Faisal Mosque Campus of the university.
A group of 25-member Saudi delegates from Imam Muhammad Bin Saud University to participate in the cultural week has also arrived Islamabad.
Meanwhile, a meeting under the chairmanship of President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh was held in which he reviewed and finalized arrangements for the proper start of mega event in both campuses. He showed satisfaction on the performance of the committees which had been assigned tasks for making the grand event a success. Dr. Al-Draiweesh also directed all the officials to expedite the efforts to complete the task if left any and hoped this cultural week of the university would be a memorable one.
The meeting was attended by Vice President Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan, Director General Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, Deans, Directors and chairmen of various committees.
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and MARMARA University of Turkey have signed an MoU under which both universities would mutually cooperate in the academic field.
The MoU was signed in a ceremony held at the office of President IIUI where Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh signed the MoU on the behalf of IIUI while Abdulhamit Birsik signed the MoU on the behalf of MARMARA University of Istanbul.
According to MoU both institutions would work for exchange of faculty and students while cooperation in education, research and training would also be initiated. Speaking on the occasion, President IIUI said academic cooperation would bring harmony and unity between both the universities”. The MoU would be practical and deliverable, which will be fruitful for both the institutions“. He added.
Meanwhile, a luncheon was organized on the same day in honour of Rector and Vice Rector of Selcuk University Turkey which was attended by Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, deans and directors of the university.
A five member delegation led by President Lahore Islamic University Lahore Prof Dr. Hafiz Abdul ur Rehman Madani visited International Islamic University Islamabad also called on President IIUI Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. In a meeting with reference to an MoU between IIUI and LIU which is already signed discussed some of the clauses of Memorandum of Understanding to make implementation. To establishing a sub campus of IIUI in Lahore which could be housed in LIU was also discussed.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed the IIUI committee members to make cooperation and collaboration with LIU feasible to send faculty members to LIU particularly in the disciplines of Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance, Management Sciences, Shariah and Law and Information Technology as well. He said both the universities may initiate to organize workshops, seminars and conferences as a joint venture to enhance the mutual cooperation. ”I would also play a role of bridge between Imam Muhammad bin Saud University Riyadh Saudi Arabia and Lahore Islamic University Lahore, having same pro chancellor of IIUI and LIU Dr. Sulaiman ibn Abdullah bin Aba-Khail” he added.

The students form Federally Administrative Tribal Areas are to be admitted in International Islamic University Islamabad and they would be facilitated maximum as well. This said by the President IIUI Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Driaweesh on the occasion of visit by Chairman Standing Committee of National Assembly Pakistan for stare and Frontier Regions from South Wazirastan Muhammad Jamal ud Din to him.
He said a refresher course for journalist of south wazirastan organized by Dawah Academy of the university and such courses and training programs for the Ulema and Aemas would also be initiated soon. Jamal ud Din thanked president on his warm welcome hoped the preference and cooperation for students of FATA would be continue in future.

The responsibilities of Female Campus were being performed by Dr. Zaitoon Begum who retired yesterday on 13.3.2014.
PRESIDENT IIUI DIRECTS FOR TIMELY SOLUTION OF STUDENTS’ PROBLEMS
President International Islamic University Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh has said solution of the problems of students is top priority because they are precious asset of the university.
He expressed these views while listening to the problems of the students on Thursday. A number of the students hailing from various disciplines met the President and informed about their problems.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed the concerned officials to solve the problems of students on priority basis. He advised them to pay full attention to studies and assured that all possible cooperation would be provided to them by the university. Students paid thanks to the president for sparing time regarding solution of their problems.
PEACE, INTERFAITH HARMONY TOP PRIORITY OF GOVT: SARDAR M. YOUSAF
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf said Thursday that government is committed to address the issue of violence and working for dissemination of peace while it would keep taking steps to promote equality and protect minority rights.
He expressed these views while addressing in an international conference titled “ Grassroots & community initiatives towards rebuilding U.S –Pakistan Relationship” organized by Iqbal international Institute for Research and Dialogue (IIIRD) of International Islamic University (IIUI) and Intersections International of USA. Four-day moot witnessed prudent speeches and papers of international level experts on peace, educationists and international relations specialist.
The public day session of the moot on Wednesday was attended by IIUI Rector Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Executive Director IIIRD Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Founder of Intersections International Rev. Robert Chase, IIUI and Intersections International’s officials.
“All the religions call for mutual understanding and especially Islam discourages attitudes of conflict and violence” The Federal Minister said. While appreciating the efforts of both IIIRD and Intersections International he assured that ministry would help both institutions in future to arrange an international conference on interfaith harmony.
Talking about the Pak-US relations, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf said Pakistan highly values its relations with US, “both countries have shared goals and commendable contribution for promoting peace and interfaith harmony” he added. “People to people contact has no substitute, initiatives in the form of such conferences would help to remove misperceptions regarding Islam” he maintained.
Dr. Masoom Yasinzai in his inspiring speech in the session said “extremism is missing in the dictionary of Islam and Islam’s way of resolving conflicts is dialogue “. He said US is largest trading partner of Pakistan and misperceptions regarding relations of both countries can be removed by taking measures like present conference. He said such activities can help to deal with trust deficit among both countries and also it would pave the way for more strong bilateral ties. He said aims of those who are working against the cause of peace can be foiled by increasing people to people contact and disseminating Islam’s message of peace and dialogue.
Dr. Mumtaz, who is also co-director of the joint venture, paid thank to the minister and rector for attending the session and vowed to keep taking steps for the promotion of interfaith harmony and dialogue.
The public day of the conference was also addressed by Robert Chase, Rabbi Reuven, Kelly McGrath, Rabbi Amy Small and Riaz Siddiqi while a day before President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh also presented his paper.
Earlier, both institutions have also discussed the US-PAK relations last year in an event organized in Islamabad.
International Islamic University Islamabad has signed an MoU with Selcuk University Konya Turkey yesterday here at IIIU. In accordance with the body of memorandum both the universities would promote institutional cooperation in education and research. The IIUI and Selcuk University agreed to exchange of faculty members and students for jointly organized study courses.
It is also stated in MoU that cooperation of sharing information, academics and research material, publication would be made easy between both the and post doctoral students would also be entertained on both sides. President IIUI Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh on behalf of IIUI while Prof Dr. Hakki Gokbel signed on behalf of Selcuk University Turkey. On the occasion of signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding Rector IIUI Prof Dr. Masoom Yasinzai in his opening remarks welcomed the worthy guests and expressed his immense pleasure over this constructive meeting. He hoped this mile stone of mutual cooperation would pave the way towards educational harmony.
Dr. Masoom termed MoU a positive and active sign of collaboration which will lead both the institutions collective destination of educational unity, peace and progress. ”This is a real time to invest build up educational economy to harvest the real fruit of development” Rector added.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh said the academic cooperation would bring harmony and unity between both the universities.”The MoU would be practical and deliverable, which will be fruitful for both the institutions“. He added. President wished practical mutual cooperation and concrete academic relations between both the universities to learn experiences from each other also share the expertise and skills. He admired the guidance and efforts of Dr. Masoom in progress and development of universities.
Dr. Hakki in his remarks thanked and vowed this MoU would bring both universities close to each other. He said this step also set a line to strengthen the relations on diplomatic level. Dr. Hassan Kursat Gules, Vice Rector of Selcuk University briefly presented introduction of the university, while director general IIUI Ghulzar Ahmed Khwaja also gave detail presentation about IIUI. It’s pertinent to mention here that Selcuk University is second largest university of Turkey where about 67 thousands students are studying. On this occasion all deans and directors of IIUI were also present.
LIBYA WANTS TO EXPAND BILATERAL TIES WITH PAKISTAN, SAYS ABDUL WAHID
Charge d’ Affaires of Libyan Embassy Abdul Wahid Abo Gaila said Wednesday that Libya wants to expand its bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in different sectors including economic‚ political and other fields.While addressing in a Seminar on “Pak –Libya Relations: Challenges & Opportunities” organized by Department of Politics and International Relations of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Abo Gaila said his county values its longstanding ties with Pakistan and looking forward to expand these friendly relations.
President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani, faculty members of department of P&IR and large number of students were also present on the occasion.
Libyan Charge d’ Affaires urged students to promote moderation and practice it while he also stressed upon the unity of Muslims.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh said in his speech that Muslims would have to be united to solve their issues. He added that promotion of dialogue culture among the countries of Muslim world was the need of hour. President IIUI vowed that university would keep working with all the Islamic countries for promotion of knowledge.
Event was also addressed by political advisor to Libyan Embassy Abida Farroq who threw light on new phase of Pak-Libyan relationships and apprised the participants regarding positive developments in Libya especially from the economic perspective. She added that Libyan govt was committed to extend bilateral economic and friendly relations with Islamic countries including Pakistan.
The Seminar was also addressed by various faculty members including Assistant Professor Manzoor Khan Afridi, Chairperson Department of P&IR Dr. Noor Fatima, Assistant Professor Tauqeer Hussain Sargana and Dr. Amina Mehmood.

Federal state minister for Education, Trainings and Standards in Higher Education, Interior and Narcotics Control Muhammad Baleegh ur Rehman said Government desires to formulate an educational system with cooperation of universities and religious institutions which would be an exemplary combination of religious and contemporary knowledge.
He expressed these views in concluding ceremony of a two-day conference on” Religious Education in Pakistan, (Institution, Curricula, Problem and Solutions) “, which suggested in its recommendations that a council of Ulema and educational experts should be formulated to review the prevailing educational system.
Two day moot was organized by Faculty of Usuluddin of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) where 34 papers by various religious scholars and education experts were presented.
The concluding ceremony of the conference was graced by the Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Dean Faculty of Usuluddin Dr. Haroon ur Rashid, various university officials and renowned scholars.
“Such conferences on vital topics of educational system can help us to cope with negative propaganda which is being disseminated against our religious institutions” Balegh ur Rehman said. He added that country requires an educational system which should be an amalgamation of contemporary and religious knowledge while stressing upon religious scholars to play their active role for promotion of harmony and patience in society. He said all the concerned ministers from provinces have assured that they would sit to formulate a comprehensive educational system and implement all the recommendations which would be given by the government. He lauded the role of IIUI for educational promotion and appreciated that university was providing platform to raise educational standards in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Masoom Yasinzai stressed upon dire need of addressing the issues of religious institution while terming their role vital for country progress. He added that an educational system must be devised which should posses equal opportunities for students in matters of contemporary and religious knowledge. Rector IIUI said that university has unique role of providing contemporary knowledge integrated with teachings of Islam to its students. He vowed that IIUI would keep providing platform to address educational issues and it would also present solutions to government for improvement of educational criteria in the country.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh said papers presented in the conference paved the way to provide recommendation which have now set guidelines to take steps for solution of problems in educational system. He vowed that recommendations would be implemented and an international conference on the topic would be held to have comparative analysis of country’s educational system with other countries.
Recommendations of the conference, which were presented by Dr. Haroon ur Rashid suggested that steps with cooperation of religious institutions and universities should be taken which may lead to improvement of educational system in the country.
Recommendations also added that a research paper should be considered as compulsory for the students who complete higher education from religious institutions. There must be harmony regarding the subject of Islamic studies both in private and government educational institutions, participants recommended.
At the end, Federal State Minister distributed certificates among the speakers of the conference while a university crest was also presented to the chief guest by Rector IIUI and President IIUI.

President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh has said Muslim countries; especially Pakistan should focus on formulating unity in the curriculum of religious, private and government sector educational institutions.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of a two-day national conference on” Religious Education in Pakistan, (Institutions, Curricula, Problems and Solutions) organized by Faculty OF Usuluddin of IIUI, Dr. Al-Draiweesh urged Ulema and educational policy makers to formulate a proper and united curriculum of religious education in all the three forms of educational institutions in Pakistan. In the conference about 34 research papers will be presented in whole five sessions. The ceremony was attended by various educational experts and teachers hailing from various institutions of country, Deputy Dean of Faculty of Usuluddin Dr. Haroon ur Rashid, DGs, Deans and Directors of the university.
“Religious scholars have pivotal role in dissemination of teachings of Islam; they must contribute actively for disseminating a message of moderation through promotion of religious education in educational institutions of the country” President IIUI said.
He added that there was a dire need to arrange conferences and meetings on such topics while he also hoped the conference would provide a platform to analyze educational systems of other Islamic countries which would help to set guidelines for devising an exemplary educational system integrated with teachings of Islam. He also gave an overview of his research paper on the topic of conference which was based on a comparative analysis of educational systems of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Later while talking to media, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said IIUI would keep playing active role for improvement in educational system of Pakistan, he stressed upon policy makers to address the issue of unity in curriculum of all educational institutions on priority basis. He also cleared the fact that religious education was unfortunately misinterpreted as only education of Shariah disciplines. President IIUI also lauded the support of President of Pakistan and Chancellor of IIUI Mamnoon Hussain while mentioning his keen interest in the matters of university and promotion of quality education.
Dr. Haroon ur Rashid, while talking on objectives of conference in his introductory remarks said “ we should sit together to abolish educational divide which is due to different set standards by different curriculums in various educational institutions of the country”. He also discussed role of religious institutions in society, their challenges and future. He said there must be an educational system which should comprehensively discuss the role of religious education in educational institutions of country. In the first day of the conference, twenty research papers were presented in four separate sessions including a parallel session for women.

Islam is a very stanch guarantor of women’s rights and has very deep impacts, women are to be integrated to achieve the right place in the society and any discrimination on gender base should be discouraged; not to be practiced at any cost at any level.
This was conclusion point of the roundtable forum with the title” Future of Women’s Rights Movement in Pakistan” organized by Critical Thinking Forum (Female) with the cooperation of Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue International Islamic University Islamabad. Ms Meghan Gregonis Spokesperson of US Embassy and Ex Vice President IIUI, Perveen Qadar Agha were chief guests while Director Female Campus Dr. Zaitoon Begum, Dr. Munnaza Yaqoob Chairperson Department of English (Female) including some guest speakers and students also participated in the forum.
The participants put utmost stressed upon the need to self awareness that everywoman must be literate about their rights and privileges which society conferred. The participants evoked that those women are working for women rights, unfortunately belong to the community who never see any hardship and trouble. The forum also endorsed the NGOs are not playing the active and positive role in this arena that are supposed to be.
They also talked about the rights of inheritance, which neglected by ignorant mind of the society. The forum agreed on the fact that Social taboos are the main constraints in women development that must be discouraged and suppression should be overcome.
They agreed upon the fact, the implementation process suffers a lot due to the lacking of proper mechanism. The forum also showed the unity to bridge the gap among different extremes of ideologies to set exemplary line for whole world. They urged to have long term strategy and solid policy at national level to address the issues which not been concentrated ever as they are required.
In her views Ms Meghan shared the struggles and similarities of American women to achieve their target goals as the Pakistani women and from anywhere of the world. She assured practical support to complete this course.

A talk on “GENOME WIDE ASSOCIATION STUDIES” organized by the Department of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology Female campus was graced as Guest Speaker by Dr. Muhammad Afzal Ex. Director General and Executive Editor “Eastern Mediterranean Health Journal”, World Health Organization. While Dr. Masoom Yasinzai Rector International Islamic University was guest of honor on the occasion.
In his address Dr. Masoom emphasized on the need for active research especially in the area of Biotechnology. He termed students architectures of the future; also encouraged the students to play their positive and active role in their studies to achieve the high destination in the society.
Dr. Naveeda Riaz, Head of the Department, faculty members of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology and female research students also participated in this talk and have active discussion at the end.
FEMALE CAMPUS HOLDS FAREWELL PARTY TO DR. ZAITOON BEGUM
Faculty of Arabic (Female) International Islamic University decorated a farewell party in the honor of Director Female Campus and Chairperson of Arabic Department Dr. Zaitoon Begum on her retirement. In-charge ALT unit MS. Shugufta Khanum and all the faculty members were also present on the occasion. Dr. Zaitoon served university for 30 years. She is considered an intellectual, valuable and kind lady among top ranks in the university.
She has contributed in the development of the university a lot as director of Female Campus. Dr. Zaitoon, as professor and dean of the faculty of Arabic vested her efforts for its development and growth.
In the ceremony Dr. Zaitoon in her remarks thanked the faculty members and students for their coordination and support and received gifts from faculty members and students.
PROPER RESEARCH KEY FOR STOPPING NEGATIVE PROPAGANDA AGAINST ISLAM, SAYS DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
Enemies of Islam while misguiding the media are becoming a source of misconceptions against our religion; it is need of hour that young researchers work for dissemination of true Islamic teachings by utilizing Quran and Sunnah as basic sources.
These views were discussed by President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh while addressing the concluding ceremony of a three day workshop on “Importance and Significance of Research in Higher Studies” organized by Islamic Research Institute (IRI) and Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IIIRD) of IIUI jointly. On the last day of the workshop, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Dr. Yasin Mazhar Sidiquie and Dr. Fazl e Rabi delivered valuable lectures.
While highlighting the importance of the research Dr. Al-Draiweesh termed research as Jihad in present circumstances. “Only effective research can stop negative propaganda which is being disseminated against Islam” he said. He added it is unfortunate that research work is being done according to guidelines of those people who themselves are not familiar with religious teachings properly. He stressed to get benefit from the work of authentic researchers. “Research is a tough job, researchers should remain patient and work hard for providing valuable results and make the research valid” he maintained.
He was of the view that internet has no doubt made the research work easy but a good researcher should investigate the references and should not rely only on the sources and references cited in the material available on internet. President IIUI also thanked the national and international researchers for attending the workshop.
Earlier, Deputy Director General IRI Dr. Sohail Hassan while presenting the report of workshop hoped that workshop would be proved as a milestone for research and young researchers would practice knowledge they gained during workshop. A souvenir on the behalf of the university was also presented by Dr. Al-Draiweesh to Yasin Mazhar Siddiqui who hails from India and especially participated in the workshop.
DR. AL-DRAIWEESH REVIEWS ARRANGEMENTS FOR INT’L CONFERENCE ON RIGHTS OF MUSTAFA (PBUH), ITS IMPLICATIONS
Da’wah Academy of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) would start Seerat un Nabi (PBUH) celebrations from April 3 which would end on March 8. In this regards, a two-day international conference on the topic “Rights of Mustafa (PBUH) and its implications” would be organized which would be attended by famous scholars and intellectuals.
A meeting to review the arrangements and preparations for the conference was held at Faisal Mosque campus of the university which was chaired by President IIUI and Director General Dawah Academy Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. Deputy Director General Dr. Imtiaz Zafar presented a detailed report regarding arrangements on which President IIUI showed satisfaction and said the conference has vital importance because it would provide an opportunity to aware the society about the importance of rights of Mustafa (PBUH). He added that Quran has openly guided about the said rights. President IIUI stressed that papers in the conference should contain high research standards so that public get accurate and appropriate knowledge of the rights of Mustafa (PBUH).
Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed that a conference on “Rights of Quran” should also be organized to aware the masses about the Quranic teachings. He added that such conferences can be helpful to end violence and extremism in the society. He was of the view that due to inadequate knowledge people are being harmed in various societies while Quran has advocated strongly for protection of human lives. President IIUI urged Aima and scholars to disseminate Islamic teachings and aware people about the salient attribute of moderation advocated by Quran.
CTF TO HOLD ROUND TABLE ON “FUTURE OF WOMEN’S RIGHTS MOVEMENTS IN PAKISTAN”
Critical Thinking Forum (CTF) of International Islamic University, Islamabad in collaboration with Iqbal Institute of Research & Dialogue (IRD) has arranged a Round table on “Future of Women’s Rights Movements in Pakistan”. It would be held at Seminar Room, Female Campus, (Fatima tu Zuhra Block) at 3pm on Friday.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION (FEMALE) HOLDS SEMINAR ON KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT
The Department of Education (Female) International Islamic University organized fourth seminar of “Series of Seminars” for male and female MS and PhD scholars with the title “Knowledge Management”. Dr Engr. Ch Ali Rizwan from UET Taxila who is also Founding Director, Master Trainer, Consultant and Mentor at Knowledge Cottage was the resource person of the seminar.
The resource person escorted an interactive and informative discussion, and sensitized the scholars about difference between data, information and knowledge and clarified some common misconceptions in this regard. He also enlightened the scholars about expressed, expressible and inexpressible knowledge along with real life examples. He avowed that a little knowledge with strong application creates wisdom.
Professor Dr. N. B Jumani, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences expressed gratitude to the resource person of the seminar, appreciated the organization of the seminar and accentuated the need of seminars to develop the habits of knowledge sharing and transferring it to others. Furthermore he appreciated the endeavours taken by Dr Samina Malik, Chairperson Department of Education (Female) for such timely needed initiatives.
The faculty members and scholars articulated paid gratitude to the resource person for enlightening them with the innovative ideas and to the Department for providing them the opportunity to attend the useful seminar, also to the Dean for his support and motivation for arranging such insightful activities in the Department of Education.
CENTRAL LIBRARY STARTS ONLINE INDEX OF JOURNALS’ ARTICLES
International Islamic University Central Library took initiative with the aim to provide effective and swift reference services to its users who are highly research oriented. To facilitate the students, faculty members and research scholars in their research, library has been indexing the articles of some scholarly journals, received in the Dr. Muhammad Hamidullah Library, Islamic Research Institute and Central Library of our university. So far, more than thirty thousands articles of journals have been indexed, including university own publications Islamic Studies, Hawliyyat, Al-Dirasat al Islamiyyah, Fikr-o-Nazar, Ma،yar, etc. This valuable source is available online, which can be accessed at the following URL:

Both basic and advanced data is available to search articles in this praiseworthy database. The research scholars can find articles with the title of the article, author’s name, title of the journal, keywords and International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) of the journal. This database will be kept on building as staff in both the libraries is entering articles’ information every day. This step will set a unique example of first locally build online articles’ index at university level in Pakistan, with the hopes that our researchers through out the Pakistan will get benefits from this important database.
PRESIDENT REVIEWS THE ARRANGEMENTS OF 26TH CULTURAL WEEK
In a meeting with all deans and directors of International Islamic University Islamabad to make the final shape to arrangements of mega event of 26th cultural week of the university. President Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh took review from the in-charge of different committees that are working to make the event successful. Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed that all events of cultural week should free from all deficiencies, would be compact and comprehensive. He urged all responsible to make coordination assure among all committees and individuals, in order to facilitate each others in achieving the goals.
President said progressive approach should be displayed in throughout the mega event, and all preparation would be on lines of useful and meaningful ways. He wished to portray this event with impressive campaign, as IIUI has students from a diverse culture of more than forty nations. He advised to arrange lectures on important topics for socialization of the students including seminars; also issued some useful directions in regard to security, discipline and proceedings of the events. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said all security measures would be taken in view to prevent any kind of mishap and assure peace and harmony.
It’s worth mentioning here, that a twenty member delegation from Saudi Universities would also participate in the mega event of IIUI. It’s also pertinent to mention that the opening ceremony of cultural week of male side would be held on 18th March, while on Female side on 19th March.
VIDEOGRAPHY AND DRAMATIC COMPETITION HELD IN MALE CAMPUS
In connection with 26th Cultural Week, Art and Dramatic Society (ADS) International Islamic University Islamabad, in collaboration with Student Adviser Office (Male) of the university organized an event named AINA’14 Videography and Dramatic Competition. Dr. Safeer Awan Cultural Adviser to President IIUI graced the event as Chief Guest; he appreciated the ADS team and wished them best of luck for future events.
Student Adviser IIUI Dr. Tahir Khalili and Additional student adviser Dr. Abdul Qadir Haroon admired the Chairman of Social events of 26th Cultural Week Mr. Rooh ul Amin and ADS management team. Mr. Uzair producer of PTV and Chairman of Media and Mass Communication Department Inam Ur Rehman were the judges of the competition. Students from all faculties presented different dramas, documentaries, mimes and short films. 18 different teams participated in AINA’14. Winner in Dramatic completion was from FBAS and runner-up was Siraiki Stars. Winner and runner-up in Videography were from FSS.
PRESIDENT IIUI INAUGURATES BLOOD TEST CAMP AT FEMALE CAMPUS
President International Islamic University Islamabad Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif AL-Draiweesh said a day is approaching when IIUI will have a faculty of medicine along with hospital equipped with all modern facilities.
He was addressing the student on the occasion of inaugural ceremony of blood test camp in female medical centre at Female Campus. Director Female Campus Dr. Zaitoon Begum, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Kalu, Dr. Asia In-Charge Medical Centre Female Campus, Chairpersons of different departments and students were also there on the occasion.
President appreciated the efforts of all medical team who are facilitating more than thirty thousand persons and vowed the IIUI hospital will not only serve the university but public at large. He advised the students care their health as the body has rights. Dr. Al-Draiweesh termed students a valuable asset of the nation and prosperous future is associated with their potential. He stressed upon the student to opt modesty in their routine life as the heath is top on this. President emphasized on students to participate in healthy activities as volunteers work in organizing such useful medical camps with the passion of service of humanity.
In his welcome address Dr. Shabbir briefed the students about the purposes of blood test camp and threw light that how much blood test important especially for female. He advised the students to care their health as the blood deficiency found mostly in female; they are also supposed to be working women in future, so they should be more conscious about their health.
Earlier, Dr. Zaitoon also shared their views and instigated students to take part in these activities. She also advised about useful tips to students regarding their health. Dr. Asia welcomed the president and thanked for sparing his precious time to encourage this effort. It is worth mentioning here, large number of students took in blood test and lauded the initiatives taken for arrangement of medical camp.
LEGISLATION TO STOP PLAGIARISM URGED IN WORKSHOP ON RESEARCH
A three-day workshop on importance and significance of research in higher studies started here at Female campus of the International Islamic University Islamabad on Tuesday which was addressed by various Islamic researchers hailing from foreign countries and across Pakistan.
Workshop is being organized by the Islamic Research Institute (IRI) and Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IIIRD) of IIUI jointly.
Researchers and Islamic scholars delivered valuable lectures where research methodology, research ethics, Dos and don’ts in Islamic research, Islamic research its objectives and standards and dealing with issues such as plagiarism and fabrication of research material were discussed.
Inaugural ceremony of the workshop was presided over by Deputy Director General IRI Dr. Sohail Hassan where he highlighted the importance of research and informed about the patterns of Islamic research. On the first day, Dr. Abu Sufiyan Islahi from Aligarh University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amin and Prof. Dr. Muhammad al-Ghazali addressed to the workshop.
Dr. Abu Sufiyan highlighted the topic of standards of research and Quranic knowledge. Dr. Muhammad Amin said “Plagiarism is a grave ethical crime and legislation to curb the issue must be initiated”. He comprehensively discussed the issues of fabrication, falsification and plagiarism with the examples from Islamic research and stressed upon the participants to follow the ethical rules during research.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghazali also delivered a valuable lecture which was on the topic of Islamic research its objectives and standards.
Second and third day of the workshop will be addressed by Dr. Siraj ul Islam Haneef, Dr. Hafiz Sajaad, Dr. Muhammad Sajid Mirza, Dr. Muhammad Akram, Dr. Fazl e Rabi, Prof Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed and Prof Dr. Muhammad Yaseen Mazhar Siddiqi. The workshop will conclude on 6th of March.
Faculty of Language and Literature (FLL) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has been further strengthened with induction of two new Assistant Professors. Dr. Ghazala Kausar and Dr. Ansa Hameed both have been appointed as Assistant Professors in Department of English of FLL at IIUI.
ADDITIONAL SECRETARY TO PRESIDENT HAILS IIUI’S ROLE FOR QUALITY EDUCATION
Additional Secretary to President of Pakistan Ahmad Farooq has said academic institutions, especially higher seats of learning such as International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) play vital role to address the contemporary challenges while committed academicians and administrators of the university are an omen of educational development in the country.
This he said on the occasion of his visit to IIUI along with Director Coordination, President Secretariat Asad Naeem where they were given a detailed briefing about the university by the Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIUI Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and Director General Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja. The briefing was also attended by DGs, Deans and Directors of the university.
Ahmad Farooq lauded the services of university and also appreciated that university is providing quality education to female students in a peaceful milieu at separate campus dedicated to them. He took keen interest in the faculty programs of the university especially in Faculty of Languages and Literature and also in multi-lingual education being provided at department of comparative religions of university. He assured his availability for addressing the problems of the university while telling that President of Pakistan has directed to see the constraints of university and solve on priority basis. On a suggestion to launch a Chinese Learning Centre, he assured to discuss the idea and work plan with Chinese Ambassador.
Dr. Massom Yasinzai while thanking regarding President of Pakistan’s keen interest in IIUI matters apprised the guests about a proposal of formulating an advisory council from IIUI which would identify the core issues and it would provide the solutions. He informed the guests that, 140 degree programs were being offered at university to more the 25 thousand male and female students while around 2 thousand foreigner students were being nurtured at university campuses in various disciplines. He also informed about training programs IIUI provides to laymen and professionals of various fields through its academies and institutes.
“IIUI is third larger university of the country where students of above forty countries and Pakistan students from Gawadar to Gilgiat Baltistan acquiring quality education integrated with teachings of Islam” Rector IIUI added.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh while welcoming the guests paid gratitude for their interest and stressed upon bilateral cooperation for producing highly skilled professionals and bright researchers from IIUI. He recalled the recent 9th IIUI convocation and said honorary degree to the King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia from IIUI has further strengthened the brethren relations among Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
He also apprised guests about requirements of university which include addition of faculty members, construction of academic block and hostels to facilitate the students. He said IIUI is also mulling over launching a medical faculty which would further improve the image and criteria of IIUI among leading varsities of the world.
“In couple of years, IIUI has signed 40 MoUs and work on all the agreements is continued which is helping to interact with world, disseminating the message of peace and raising educational standers at university” President IIUI added. It was also agreed on the occasion that interaction between IIUI and President Secretariat would continue in future and constructive ideas would be discussed in the meetings between the relevant officials of both institutions.
At the end, University crests and gifts were presented to the guests by Rector and President IIUI.
Khan Farhan Rafat student of International Islamic University, Islamabad has completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science. His research titled “DIGITAL STEGANOGRAPHY FOR ASCII TEXT DOCUMENT”. He successfully defended his topic and was awarded “A” grade by viva voice committee, comprising of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younas Javed from National University of Science and Technology, Prof. Dr. Aqdas Naveed Malik from IIUI and Associate Prof. Masoom Alam from COMSATS. He has a distinction having ten Internal Journal Publications on his credit. In addition to research work he has also appeared in the proceedings of five International Conferences. Prof. Dr. M Sher Dean Faculty of Applied Sciences IIUI supervised his research work.
IRI, IIIRD TO HOLD WORKSHOP ON EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH
Islamic Research Institute and Iqbal International Institute Research and Dialogue of International Islamic University Islamabad jointly going to hold three days workshop on importance and significance of research in higher studies in Fasail Masjid Campus today ( Tuesday). Scholars from abroad and indigenous will address the participants. The purposes of the workshop are to highlight the research culture in Muslim education era, educational standards and goals, the relationships between ethics and research and new trends in research. In first day of workshop, Prof Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghazali, Dr. Abu Sufian Islaahi, Prof Dr. Muhammad Amin and Deputy Director Genaral Dr. Sohail Hassan will address. HAMID HAMEED VISITS IIUI, SHOWS SATISFACTION ON PSDP FUNDED PROJECTS AT VARSITY
ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Kashmir affairs and Gilgit Baltistan and member sub-committee on Higher Education Commission (HEC) Ch. Hamid Hameed visited International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) on Friday and reviewed progress of the PSDP funded projects at university. He was also accompanied with member national assembly Shazia Ashfaq.
A detailed briefing and presentation about university and progress of the PSDP funded projects was given by the Rector IIU Dr. Masoom Yasinzai to Ch. Hamid Hameed and Shazia Ashfaq. The briefing was also attended by Acting President IIU Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan, Director General IIU Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, Director Finance IIU Khurshid Alam, Acting Director Planning and Project Dr. Amir Ishtiaq, Director (P&D) HEC Zahid Hussain and various officials of university and HEC.
Rector IIU and Director Planning and Project both apprised about progress regarding development of infrastructure at IIU during briefing. Participants of the briefing were told about construction of hostel blocks, boundary wall of university and requirements for establishing academic block for smooth educational activities in the university.
Dr. Masoom Yasinzai told during briefing IIUI is serving 54 countries of world with 132 programs offered in 39 departments of 9 faculties at IIU. He said IIU students not only acquire degree related knowledge but also IIU provide them learning of Islamic ethics which ultimately results in graduation of well balanced professional skilled minds integrated with teachings of Islam.
Speaking on the occasion, Ch. Hamid Hameed said political mileage and point scoring measures for educational institutions must be negated as present Govt’s top priority is to establish need based universities which should contain touch of Islamic knowledge and teachings in their course schemes like IIU. He showed satisfaction on the progress of undergoing projects and assured to manage the requirements of IIU.
A matter of launching Islamic Learning Program in West via Pakistani Institutions was also discussed and it was agreed that in a separate meeting of IIU officials with Ch. Hamid Hameed in Ministry of Kashmir affairs and Gilgit Baltistan, a comprehensive plan and feasibilities would be discussed for validation of the program which can be launched through web-portal and video conferencing services.
Shazia Ashfaq while lauding the progress on PSDP funded projects at IIU said university is a prestigious educational institution which is serving whole world and providing quality education to male and females in separate campuses in the light of teachings of Islam.
University crests and gifts were also presented by Dr. Masoom Yasinzai to Ch. Hamid Hameed and Shazia Ashfaq at the end of briefing.
Later, committee members visited the under construction female hostels and assured to work for allocation of funds required in developmental projects of university.

PRESIDENT IIUI DR. AHMED YOUSIF AL-DRAWEESH PRESENTS PAPER IN INTL CONFERENCE ON POLIO ERADICATION
Islamabad. In the International Conference regarding Polio Eradication in Under Developed Muslim Countries held in Jeddah Saudi Arabia; President International Islamic University Islamabad Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh presented his research paper in which he threw the light on the challenges and constraints being faced by polio expedition in Pakistan. The two days conference organized with the collaboration International Islamic Institute for Fiqh, Organization of Islamic Conference that attended world famous Religious Ulema, Medical specialists, Scholars and Researchers from across the Muslim world.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh representing IIUI, in paper, focused different aspects and components of polio eradication. He said, Islam has great concern to the health of children and Polio vaccination is a service of humanity and Islam encourages all such efforts in this regard. He also highlighted the fact that Islam teaches about the rights of human body and emphasizes on securing body from such diseases like polio. Dr. Al-Draiweesh stressed upon the concerned to move forward for dissemination the message and make the mind of who are unaware of this epidemic disease to join hands for the eradication.
He expressed immense pleasures that Scholars, Medical specialists, religious scholars and medical doctors came across the world for the betterment of Muslim Ummah.
The participants also shared their views regarding polio affected Muslim countries particularly Afghanistan, Nigeria and vowed to join hands to eliminate polio in the bud. They also agreed on the fact polio vaccination is Halal and its obligation of everybody to contribute in polio eradication.
It is pertinent to mention that the first round of the conference was organized in International Islamic University Islamabad and in Pakistan IIUI is the coordination center of this movement.
