HAMID HAMEED VISITS IIUI, SHOWS SATISFACTION ON PSDP FUNDED PROJECTS AT VARSITY
ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Kashmir affairs and Gilgit Baltistan and member sub-committee on Higher Education Commission (HEC) Ch. Hamid Hameed visited International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) on Friday and reviewed progress of the PSDP funded projects at university. He was also accompanied with member national assembly Shazia Ashfaq.
A detailed briefing and presentation about university and progress of the PSDP funded projects was given by the Rector IIU Dr. Masoom Yasinzai to Ch. Hamid Hameed and Shazia Ashfaq. The briefing was also attended by Acting President IIU Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan, Director General IIU Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, Director Finance IIU Khurshid Alam, Acting Director Planning and Project Dr. Amir Ishtiaq, Director (P&D) HEC Zahid Hussain and various officials of university and HEC.
Rector IIU and Director Planning and Project both apprised about progress regarding development of infrastructure at IIU during briefing. Participants of the briefing were told about construction of hostel blocks, boundary wall of university and requirements for establishing academic block for smooth educational activities in the university.
Dr. Masoom Yasinzai told during briefing IIUI is serving 54 countries of world with 132 programs offered in 39 departments of 9 faculties at IIU. He said IIU students not only acquire degree related knowledge but also IIU provide them learning of Islamic ethics which ultimately results in graduation of well balanced professional skilled minds integrated with teachings of Islam.
Speaking on the occasion, Ch. Hamid Hameed said political mileage and point scoring measures for educational institutions must be negated as present Govt’s top priority is to establish need based universities which should contain touch of Islamic knowledge and teachings in their course schemes like IIU. He showed satisfaction on the progress of undergoing projects and assured to manage the requirements of IIU.
A matter of launching Islamic Learning Program in West via Pakistani Institutions was also discussed and it was agreed that in a separate meeting of IIU officials with Ch. Hamid Hameed in Ministry of Kashmir affairs and Gilgit Baltistan, a comprehensive plan and feasibilities would be discussed for validation of the program which can be launched through web-portal and video conferencing services.
Shazia Ashfaq while lauding the progress on PSDP funded projects at IIU said university is a prestigious educational institution which is serving whole world and providing quality education to male and females in separate campuses in the light of teachings of Islam.
University crests and gifts were also presented by Dr. Masoom Yasinzai to Ch. Hamid Hameed and Shazia Ashfaq at the end of briefing.
Later, committee members visited the under construction female hostels and assured to work for allocation of funds required in developmental projects of university.
Earlier on arrival at university, guests were received and welcomed by Rector IIU, Acting President IIU and Directors of the university.
PRESIDENT IIUI DR. AHMED YOUSIF AL-DRAWEESH PRESENTS PAPER IN INTL CONFERENCE ON POLIO ERADICATION
Islamabad. In the International Conference regarding Polio Eradication in Under Developed Muslim Countries held in Jeddah Saudi Arabia; President International Islamic University Islamabad Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh presented his research paper in which he threw the light on the challenges and constraints being faced by polio expedition in Pakistan. The two days conference organized with the collaboration International Islamic Institute for Fiqh, Organization of Islamic Conference that attended world famous Religious Ulema, Medical specialists, Scholars and Researchers from across the Muslim world.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh representing IIUI, in paper, focused different aspects and components of polio eradication. He said, Islam has great concern to the health of children and Polio vaccination is a service of humanity and Islam encourages all such efforts in this regard. He also highlighted the fact that Islam teaches about the rights of human body and emphasizes on securing body from such diseases like polio. Dr. Al-Draiweesh stressed upon the concerned to move forward for dissemination the message and make the mind of who are unaware of this epidemic disease to join hands for the eradication.
He expressed immense pleasures that Scholars, Medical specialists, religious scholars and medical doctors came across the world for the betterment of Muslim Ummah.
The participants also shared their views regarding polio affected Muslim countries particularly Afghanistan, Nigeria and vowed to join hands to eliminate polio in the bud. They also agreed on the fact polio vaccination is Halal and its obligation of everybody to contribute in polio eradication.
It is pertinent to mention that the first round of the conference was organized in International Islamic University Islamabad and in Pakistan IIUI is the coordination center of this movement.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ORGANIZES SEMINAR ON MODELS OF TEACHING
A seminar on “Models of Teaching” for male and female MS & PhD scholars of Education discipline was arranged by Department of Education (female campus) of International Islamic University (IIU) where Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Rtd Dean, Faculty of Education, Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad briefed the participants about Information Processing, Social, Personal and Behavioral families of Models of Teaching. The seminar was part of seminar series arranged by the department on important themes and diverse topics in the discipline of Education.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal escorted an interactive and informative discussion, and accentuated the need to reach all the students and for that a teacher must be aware of the ways her students learn new information. He emphasized on adopting necessary doctrines (morals, values, nahi-un-l-munkarat i-e farze-ain) first and then worldly knowledge up to this day of technology (farze-kifaya) and espousing an integrated blend of Din and Dunya.
Dr. N. B Jumani, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences in his address in seminar, appreciated the endeavours of Dr Samina Malik, Chairperson and other members of the team of Department of Education in organizing such insightful activities for the scholars. He also paid his gratitude to the administration of the university for approving and admiring these activities arranged by the Department, and expressed gratitude to the resource person for accepting the invitation and sensitizing the scholars about selecting the appropriate model of teaching according to needs of diverse students.
Earlier, Dr Shamsa Aziz, Assistant Professor Department of Education welcomed the participants and briefed them about the essence and Philosophy of arranging these seminars.
IIUI CLINCHES TOP POSITIONS IN ALL PAKISTAN INTER VARSITY DECLAMATION CONTEST
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) clinched first and second positions in Urdu category of 16th all Pakistan inter-university contest for the award of “Allama Iqbal Shield”.
Second round of regional competition for the Allama Iqbal Shield was held at Faisal Mosque campus of IIUI where 56 contestants from 14 universities showed their talent. Nafisa Habib of IIUI claimed first position in Urdu while Waleed Zafar of IIUI brought fame to IIUI by standing second in the same category of the competition and third position of Urdu category was taken by Junaid Bin Amir of Air University Islamabad.
In the English category of the competition, NUML students shined while grabbing first two positions, Atta ur Rauf of NUML got first while Urooj Qaiser from the same university stood second. Third position of English catefory went to Zaheer Babar of NUST. Third and final round of the competition would be held at Higher Education Commission (HEC) in April where 30 students across the country from Urdu and English categories would compete.
Results ceremony of the competition was presided over by Acting President Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan while Director General (Academics HEC) Fida Hussain was the guest of honor. The ceremony was also joined by Regional Coordinator HEC declamation contest and Cultural Advisor IIUI Dr. Safeer Awan, Students’ Advisor IIUI Dr. Tahir Khalili and coordinator of contest Ausaf Chaudhry.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bashir Khan said IIUI is proud of hosting competition and such activities are necessary for enhancing the intellectual capacity and confidence building of the students.” Youth is real hope for country, Pakistani students do not only have ability to add pace in country’s progress but they have also potential to make Muslim Ummah united and developed” said IIUI Acting President. He also appreciated the efforts of organizers and thanked for HEC support during arrangements of the contest.
Fida Hussain said HEC would keep arranging such activities and all support would be provided to educational institutions for organizing productive programs and competitions. He appreciated the contents, style and confidence of the contestants. He apprised the audience about the details of rounds of competition and told that HEC was all set to host the final round of Allama Iqbal Shield in next month. He also lauded the arrangements of IIUI organizers.
Dr. Tahir Khalili, while expressing his remarks said IIUI witnessed remarkable talent of Pakistan youth during last three years while hosting the declamation competition and university would keep arranging extra and co-curricular activities with more zeal in future.
At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Bashir Khan awarded shields to the winners of competition and judges of the competition while a souvenir was also presented to DG Academics HEC by Dr. Bashir Khan.
IIUI: COURT DISMISSES STAY ORDER OF STUDENTS, TERMS VARSITY ACTIONS LEGITIMATE
ISLAMABAD: District Court has dismissed stay order of 3 students who were involved in disciplinary violation and non payment of dues at International Islamic University Islamabad.
Earlier, Neelam Jahan, Miss Hiba Shabbir and Romana Akbar had been found guilty of disrupting educational activities and violating the university rules on which university discipline committee had expelled them from IIUI.
Additional District judge, Rafaqat Ahmed Awan while considering the appeal against stay order of 3 students decided that International Islamic University is an autonomous institution and all measures taken by university regarding the issue are valid and legal and court would not interfere in the matters of the university. The decision further adds that the provision of hostels to students is purely IIUI administrations’ prerogative and its decision in this regard should be considered as final and valid. Court has also dismissed all the applications filed by the students in this regard.
University administration has lauded the decision of the court and reiterated that IIUI would remain committed to provide a peaceful milieu and quality education to its students and it would keep nurturing their minds according to teachings of Islam.
IIUI has vowed that the whole administration would continue to treat the students of the university compassionately as before and assured the parents that all hostels of the campus are peaceful while the decision to expel the students was taken against grave violations of university regulations and in larger interest of the students as well as to maintain discipline in IIUI campuses. Court Decision
The 3rd meeting of the year 2014 of Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR) of International Islamic University Islamabad was held on Monday under the chairmanship of President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. Vice President (Academics) Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan also attended the meeting.
The board discussed and analyzed synopses’ of PhD students of Faculty of Social Sciences. The board members also issued valuable instructions for further research work to the students. On this occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed the board members to make it sure that research must be impartial and the proper application of research methodology should not be neglected.
In the 73rd meeting of Board of Governors International Islamic University Islamabad appreciated the step taken by IIUI management to confer the honorary degree to King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, in recognition of his services for the development of Muslim Ummah, also showed confidence over the rapid progress of the university, apart from, the body discussed the matters pertaining to the administration and academics.
The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the BoG and Rector IIUI Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, while President, IIU (Vice-Chairman) Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Worthy members including Mr. Salman Faruqui, Wafaqi Muhtasib, Senator Sardar Fateh Muhammad Hasni, Justice Rizwan Ali Dodani Jutice federal Shariat Court Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Executive Director, HEC, Dr. Inam-ur-Rehman Scientist Emeritus PIEAS, Tariq Nawaz Joint Secretary Ministry of Education and Training, Secretary of BoG Mr. Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, Director General (AF&P), IIUI attended the meeting. The body admired the efforts of Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and Dr. Al-Draiweesh to up-lift the standard of education in IIUI. They also congratulated over the success of 9th convocation which was under the supervision of Dr. Masoom and Dr. Al-Draiweesh.
IIUI IS GUARDIAN OF THE STUDENTS; RECTOR DR. MASOOM
Rector International Islamic University Islamabad Dr. Masoom Yasinzai has said every measure will be taken to make university safe and secure; to strengthen trust of the parents is be our top most priority. He was addressing the press conference held in the university in context with the fake stories on aired in TV channels that damaged the repute of the university. Rector clarified that the university has never taken any step which proved harmful for the student; rather management is here to facilitate them in all respects.
He also assured the parents who prefer International Islamic University for their daughters that they should remain confident. “University administration will take all possible measures to safeguard the interests of their daughters especially those who live in IIUI hostels and will not let them to be at the mercy of a gang illegal students who are involved in subversive activities and bring bad name to the reputation of IIUI”. Dr. Masoom added.
He also made media persons aware that university authority has an obligation to provide conducive environment to all the students that develops a wholesome personality and the university will continue to work in the same direction and would not allow miscreants to operate from within the university.
Rector condemned baseless stories and took serious exception to the news item related to the 3 girl students who have alleged to be detained in the university hostels. He made clear the situation and told the fact of the matter is that the three girls were involved in a strike in the university on 23rd of December 2013.
The university followed the laid out procedures to expel these students from the university hostels against which they were given temporary relief by the court. The university honoured the order of the court and allowed them to stay in their rooms. Eventually, their stay was vacated by the court on 20th of February 2014.
He further said that the management peacefully approached the students to vacate the rooms in the light of the court orders and university got the possession of their seats peacefully. Rector said today the accused girls created a drama and broke the locks of their rooms illegally and violated the university laws. One of the girls confined herself in a room with the help of other two and started calling media spreading the fabricated news of the habeas corpus. All hostel residents are safe and secure and university strives to ensure the well being of its students.
A three-member delegation of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) headed by its Director General Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja called on Executive Director Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed on Friday and discussed issues pertaining to mutual interest.
Deputy Director General Dawah Academy IIUI Dr. Imtiaz Zafar and Deputy Director (ORIC) Muhammad Adnan Khan were also present in the meeting. The delegation paid thanks to HEC for providing guest house during a training program of Dawah Academy, at Lahore. Matters regarding a grand meeting of the high ups of all five Islamic Universities of the world on the occasion of IIUI 26th Cultural Week were also discussed.
Dr. Mukhtar said a comprehensive program for training of Aima with cooperation of HEC and IIUI can be helpful to deal with the leading contemporary issues, it was agreed that a meeting in this regard would be held soon to set guidelines.
Executive Director HEC said IIUI is playing vital role for promotion of knowledge under the leadership of IIUI President Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and hoped it would make a place in the list of leading universities of the world.
Speaking on the occasion, Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja lauded the support of HEC for IIUI and thanked for cooperation during the recent 9th convocation of the university. He assured that university administration would remain committed to provide quality education to students of Pakistan and Muslim Ummah.
A 40 member delegation from Baluchistan comprising student from different Madaaras, Colleges and Universities visited International Islamic University Islamabad, from where they were briefed about the IIUI by the Director General (AF&P) Ghulzar Ahmed Khawja. He gave brief introduction about the university, its educational programs, courses and other activities. Ghulzar Khwaja also made participants aware about the objectives, future plans and procedure of admission in university. Earlier, the delegation was received by the Additional Director Protocol and Public Relations D K Hairan Khattak in new campus of the university. The visit of Islamabad was arranged by the Baluchistan Rural Support Program.
BI&BT TO HOLD SEMINAR ON RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIPS ON FRIDAY
Female Department Bioinformatics and Biotechnology (BI&BT) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) is going to hold a lecture on “writing Research Paper and Availing International Scholarships” on Friday at central library of the university. The lecture will be addressed by Dr. Shahana, who is first micro biologist of Pakistan and known for his services in the field.
DA’WAH ACADEMY HOLDS CERTIFICATE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY
The Da’wah Academy of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) held a certificate distribution ceremony for the participants of the Islamic Correspondence Courses at Faisal Mosque Campus of the university. Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, Acting President of IIU, was chief guest at the ceremony. Deputy Director General Da’wah Academy Dr. Muhammad Imtiaz Zafar and head of Islamic Correspondence Courses Department Misbahur Rehman Yousufi and participants across Pakistan were also present on the occasion.
A total of 42982 participants including men, women and children have successfully completed Islamic Correspondence Courses of ‘The Holy Quraan, study of Hadith’, study of Islam and ‘Guldasta’ course (for children) organized by Academy while 54 participants who stood first in various courses were awarded in the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan highlighted role of educational institutions in imparting Islamic teachings amongst the students along with worldly knowledge. “You cannot become a good Pakistani unless you are good Muslim,” he said. He added extremism was reason of instability and educational institutions could help be ended the issue. He called upon the participants that they should adopt Islamic approach in every aspect of their practical lives.
“IIUI holds programs for people of all aspects of life and teaches and proved training to them to utilize expertise in the light of teachings of Islam because it has a huge responsibility to disseminate and promote education being a top seat of learning” he maintained.
Dr. Imtiaz Zafar, DDG of Da’Wah Academy, apprised the audience that the Islamic Correspondence Courses were started in 1985 with establishment of the Da’wah Academy. He said that in all 43,000 participants out of nearly 78 thousands have completed these courses successfully. He said the Da’Wah Academy was established in order to promote cause of Islam and its teaching from the Government level. Dr. Imtiaz said the academy has also been organising training programmes and workshops for civil and military officials, journalists and others for their Islamic orientation. Dr. Misbah ur Rehman Yousfi presented the detail report of the courses during the ceremony.
Representing the participants of courses, Dr. Col. Musharraf Imam and Saira Abbasi lauded the courses and paid thanks for the cooperation of Dawah staff. Abdul Latif Sufi, a 76-year old veteran mechanical engineer, was the most appreciated participant as he held three outstanding positions in three courses for adult participants. The successful participants of these courses have come to Islamabad from across the country to receive their degrees. Participants from age 15 to 75 were part of these courses and those who attended the ceremony were awarded with the gifts and certificates by Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan at the end.
THAI DELEGATION CALLS ON RECTOR PROF DR. MASOOM YASINZAI
A four member delegation from Thailand visited International Islamic University Islamabad and met with the Rector IIUI Prof Dr. Masoom Yasinzai where they discussed the matters particularly in enhancing the capacity building in the field of Islamic Economics and Islamic Banking being progressed in Thailand very rapidly. The delegation comprising Dr. Anas Amatayakul Head of the Department of Int’l Relation Thammasat University, Thailand, DR. Jaran Maluleem, Mahidol Univeristy Thailand and Miss Laksanacadee Kaewkramol, Second Secretary of the Embassy in Pakistan.
Dr. Masoom gave brief introduction about the university, its educational programs, courses and other activities. Rector also offered special courses, training programs comprising Islamic banking and finance that would be arranged for Thai. He further extended saying that the IIUI would send its experts to Thailand for training and develop human resource in the field of Islamic financing and banking. Dr. Masoom also extolled to have cooperation in this field and in all respects to strengthen the ties of education and initiate an exchange programs also. Dr. Anas Amatayakul made rector aware about the growing Islamic banking system and trends in Thailand. He also mentioned to seek the expertise from Islamic University to strengthen the capability.
On the occasion Dr. Atiq uz Zafar also gave detail account about the programs and workshops that were arranged by IIIE IIUI in Sri Lanka and Mortious respectively. Later on delegation visited Faculty of Economics where they met with DG IIIE Dr. Muhammad Yasin, senior faculty member including Dr. Khaliq uz Zaman, Dr. Arshad Ali Bhatti and Dr. Zaqib. The faulty member also warmly welcomed and extended their cooperation to give any kind of assistance. They also proposed a MoU to further develop bilateral relations.
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has started to provide scholarships for semester 2014 endowed by Department of Awqaf Saleh Abdel Aziz Al Rajhi, Saudi Arabia to the students of faculties of Shariah and Law, Arabic and Usuluddin. The scholarships are part of an agreement under which Department of Awqaf Saleh Abdel Aziz Al Rajhi, Saudi Arabia, as an endowment, providing one-hundred scholarships of worth 89 Million rupees to IIUI students.
IIUI had received enormous response for the scholarships from students (male & female) of various nationalities and now after start of scholarship provision, they have thanked Department of Awqaf Saleh Abdel Aziz Al Rajhi, Saudi Arabia for providing them valuable opportunity to strengthen their future.
IIUI has thanked the endowment of Department of Awqaf Saleh Abdel Aziz Al Rajhi, Saudi Arabia for its valuable assistance that would have good impact on the beneficiaries of this scholarship. It is pertinent to mention that aforesaid agreement of scholarships was signed between both institutions during President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh last years’ visit to Saudi Arabia.
DA’WAH ACADEMY TO HOLD CERTIFICATE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY
Da’wah Academy of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) to organize a certificate distribution ceremony for the participants of its Islamic Correspondence Course today (Wednesday). The ceremony would start at 11 am in Faisal Mosque campus of the university while it would be graced by the Acting President IIUI Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan as chief guest.
CJ, IIUI PRESIDENT DISCUSS ACADEMIC, JUDICIAL RELATIONS
Islamabad: Chief Justice of Supreme Court Pakistan Sheikh Tasadduq Hussein Jillani and President International Islamic University Islamabad, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh discussed academic and judicial relations between IIUI and the Judiciary in their meeting at the office of Chief Justice.
Justice Sheikh Tasadduq Hussein Jillani, while warmly welcomed Dr. Al-Draiweesh lauded prominent role of IIUI for playing vital role in training of judges in the university and facilitating their training abroad, especially in Saudi Arabia.
Chief Justice expressed his thanks and appreciation for the distinctive and pioneering efforts which the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is making for the service of Islam and Muslims, particularly its pioneering efforts for the service of the Two Holy Mosques and to facilitate the access of the pilgrims and visitors to the Holy Places.
He also highly lauded the excellent historical relations between the two brotherly states of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which he hopes will further increase stronger day by day by the Grace of Allah. He also congratulated the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, on the award of the Honorary Doctorate degree in Politics and International Relations from IIUI.
Justice Sheikh Tasadduq urged the International Islamic University to exert more attention to enhancing the capacity of the judges, advocates and Ulema so that they can guide the people to goodness, righteousness and happiness in the Hereafter.
He also extolled the prominent role of the Prof. Dr. Ahmed bin Yousif Al Draiweesh for promotion of education his academic and leadership qualities, which he hoped, will enable him to manage this prestigious university competently and effectively and succeed in bringing it at par with other distinguished and advanced Islamic universities of the world.
On the occasion, President IIUI thanked the Chief Justice for the noble feelings expressed by him and prayed Almighty Allah to enable him to come up to his expectation and the expectation of the University’s other senior officials.
He also briefly apprised the Chief Justice about the various academic, religious, cultural activities and programs that university is pursuing in the interest of knowledge, students, Islam and Muslims. The President IIUI also invited Chief Justice in meeting of the University’s Board of Trustees, of which he is a member and that is going to be held soon. The Chief Justice thankfully accepted the invitation of the President he also invited him to grace the university with his personal visit that would enable the university community to benefit from his rich and valuable academic and judicial expertise.
At the end of the meeting, the President thanked the Chief Justice for his warm welcome and hospitality. and said that he benefited much from his valuable advice and guidance, which would help him in leading this University to further development academically, administratively and technically and make it a great citadel of knowledge that would illuminate for the Muslims the path to goodness, righteousness, moderation and balance and keep them at a distance from extremism and militancy. He also expressed his hope that this would help in preserving the original character of this University while benefiting from all the modern knowledge and sciences which are beneficial to mankind.
ISLAMABAD: Judge Federal Shariat Court Justice Fida Muhammad Khan visited International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) on Monday and called on President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh where both of them discussed matters pertaining to the meeting of Board of Governors of the varsity.
Director General AF& P Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja and founder of Lahore Islamic University Dr. Hafiz Abdur Rehman Madni were also present during the meeting. Matters pertaining to the meeting of Board of trustees were also discussed in the meeting.
Justice Fida lauded the services of IIUI for promotion of education and hoped university would further excel in the leadership of Dr. Al-Draiweesh. President IIUI apprised the Justice regarding future plans and steps taken for provision of quality education in all three campuses of the university. IIUI COMMITTED TO COOPERATE FOR PROMOTION OF EDUCATION: DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
Islamabad: Head Teacher Education Project (TEP) Dr. Mahmood ul Hassan Butt on Monday called on President international Islamic University Islamabad Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and discussed the matters pertaining to promotion of education, enhancing and strengthening the educational system.
The meeting was also joined by Founder of Lahore Islamic University Dr. Hafiz Abdur Rehman Madni. Dr. Al-Draiweesh and Dr. Mehmood ul Hassan agreed to strengthen the relations between IIUI and TEP. It was agreed in the meeting that by enhancing the mutual cooperation the teachers would be provided with the knowledge, skills and dispositions required to be effective instructors and to meet Pakistan’s National Standards for Teachers.
Dr. Mahmood ul Hassan vowed that TEP is ready to provide all possible cooperation to IIUI. He also lauded the role of university for providing quality education to students of above 40 countries of the world.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh said IIUI is committed to cooperate with organizations such as Lahore Islamic University and constructive projects like Teacher Education Project can help to promote education and set higher standards of education. He stressed upon exchange of delegations of students and faculty for strong mutual relations among the Islamic countries.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ORGANIZES SEMINAR ON EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH AND ITS SUPERVISION
Department of Education, (Female) International Islamic University Islamabad organized a seminar on “Educational Research and its supervision at Postgraduate Level”
Professor Dr. Norman Reid from University of Glasgow, Scotland UK was the speaker for the seminar. In his lecture he highlighted the importance of Research in Education and need for building research teams for improving the teaching learning situation in the specified areas. He guided them to use powerful techniques for research, using textbooks, internet and articles for developing critical literature review. He also made participants aware about some resources for useful advices related to research, proposal writing and project guidelines.
Prof Norman Reid explained the characteristics of a good research and thesis. He urged the need for using the right statistics and said that mistakes may be the way to progress if noticed well in time. Earlier In her welcome note Dr Samina Malik, Chairperson Department of Education, briefly introduced the emeritus Professor and extended her warm welcome on behalf of Department of Education and International Islamic University, Islamabad. At the end, Dr Samina Malik expressed her gratitude to the speaker on sparing precious time for the participants.
His Excellency Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan receives His Excellency, the President of the International Islamic University, Islamabad
His Excellency the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Sheikh Tasadduq Hussein Gilani, warmly welcomed His Excellency the President of the International Islamic University Prof. Dr. Ahmed bin Yousif al Draiweesh in his office in Islamabad on Wednesday, the 12th February, 2014. During the meeting, they had friendly talks in which they discussed academic and judicial relations between the International Islamic University and the Judiciary of Pakistan and the prominent role that the International Islamic University is playing in training the judges in the University as well as facilitating their training abroad, especially in Saudi Arabia. His Excellency the Chief Justice expressed his thanks and appreciation for the distinctive and pioneering efforts which the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is making for the service of Islam and Muslims, particularly its pioneering efforts for the service of the Two Holy Mosques and to facilitate the access of the pilgrims and visitors to the Holy Places. His Excellency also highly lauded the excellent historical relations between the two brotherly states of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which he hopes will further increase stronger day by day by the Grace of Allah. Seizing this opportunity, he also congratulated the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, may God protect him, on the award of the Honorary Doctorate degree in Politics and International Relations from a prestigious university. His Excellency the Chief Justice urged the International Islamic University to exert more attention to enhancing the qualification of the judges, advocates and Ulamas so that they can guide the people to goodness, righteousness and happiness in the Hereafter. He also extolled the prominent role His Excellency the President of the International Islamic University, Prof. Dr. Ahmed bin Yousif Al Draiweesh is playing and his academic and leadership qualities, which will enable him to manage this prestigious university competently and effectively and succeed in bringing it at par with other distinguished and advanced Islam universities of the world.
His Excellency the President of the International Islamic University thanked His the Chief Justice for the noble feelings expressed by him and prayed to Almighty Allah to enable him to come up to His Excellency’s expectation and the expectation of the University’s other senior officials. Then the President, IIUI briefly explained to the Chief Justice the various academic, religious, cultural activities and programs the University is pursuing in the interest of knowledge, students, Islam and Muslims. The President also invited the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to the meeting of the University’s Board of Trustees, of which he is a member and which is going to be held soon. The Chief Justice thankfully accepted the invitation of the President, who also invited him to grace the University with his personal visit that would enable the University community to benefit from his rich and valuable academic and judicial expertise. His Excellency Chief Justice graciously accepted the invitation.
At the end of the meeting, the President thanked His Excellency the Chief Justice for his warm welcome and hospitality and said that he has benefited much from his valuable advice and guidance, which would help him in leading this University to further development academically, administratively and technically and make it a great citadel of knowledge that would illuminate for the Muslims the path to goodness, righteousness, moderation and balance and keep them at a distance from extremism and militancy. FACULTY OF USULUDDIN EVALUATES RESEARCH PROPOSALS, DR. AL-DRAIWEESH PRESIDES MEETING
Islamabad: President International Islamic University Islamabad Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh chaired a meeting of board of studies of Faculty of Usuluddin on Friday.
The President directed that a meeting of the board should be arranged every month and fortnightly meetings in the departments of the faculty should be held to raise the standards of research in the faculty. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said supervisor should have comprehensive knowledge of the subject of dissertation and student with contemporary topic of research should be encouraged. The board discussed 2PhD and 11 MS synopses of the research students. Meeting was attended by Deputy Dean of the faculty Dr. Haroon ur Rashid and head of departments were also present in the meeting.
IIUI PRESIDENT REVIEWS ARRANGEMENTS FOR 26TH CULTURAL WEEK
Islamabad: A meeting to review the preparations for 26th cultural week of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) chaired by its President Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh was held on Friday at Faisal Mosque campus of the university.
The 26th cultural week of university to be held from March 17th to 21st which includes cultural exhibitions, sports gala, lectures and co-curricular and extra-curricular activities competitions among the students of above 40 countries.
Meeting was attended by the heads of various committees formed for the preparations of cultural week, Vice President Academics Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan, Director General (AF&P) Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja, directors and relevant officials nominated for preparations of event. Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed that efforts should be expedited to make the mega event of university successful. He reviewed the progress and suggestions presented by the Students’ Advisor. He urged the participants of meeting to keep cooperating with each other and finish their tasks within the deadlines given to them. He also directed to start the activities of cultural week from February 3rd by starting the lectures on the theme of the convocation which he suggested should be regarding discouraging extremism.
Chief Executive of Human Appeal International Othman Moqbel called on President International Islamic University Islamabad Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh here on yesterday at Faisal Masjid Campus. On the occasion Country Director HAI Nisar Ahmed was also present. During the meeting both the heads discussed the matters pertaining to education and mutual collaboration in the field of social sector. President IIUI apprised Othman Moqbel about the university and future plan and hoped that both Institutions IIUI and HAI would collaboration in regard mutual interest. He also invoked IIUI has intention to extend its cooperation in social work projects of the Human Appeal. Othman Moqbel also admired the structure and role of IIUI saying that university has valuable human resource for the services of humanity. He further said AHI wants to seek the assistance of IIUI to enhance the activities of human serving in Pakistan. Human Appeal is an NGO which is UK based working here in Pakistan with Red Crescent and disaster relief. Dr. Al-Draiweesh also presented university shield to Othman Moqbel at the end.
SECTARIANISM HAS NO ROOM IN ISLAM; DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
President International Islamic University Islamabad Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh has called upon Ulema to work for dissemination of peace and they should promote of harmony while discouraging approach of extremisms. He was addressing the participants on the occasion of inaugural session of 82nd Training Program for Ulema organized by Dawah Academy IIUI. On the occasion Deputy Director General Dawah Academy Dr. Imtiaz Zafar was also present. In his address President stressed upon the Ulema to play their key role in the reformation of society as they are pillars of stability. He termed Ulema pre-requisite component of peace and tranquility as they are responsible to prevent the people from extremists and negative thinking. He invoked that Ulema should come forward to preach the true message of Islam in true sense as preaching is the key element of Islam. President said no one has right to enforce anybody to act upon one’s wish as Islam has no room to use force or power in regard to preaching. Dr. Al-Draiweesh admired the role of Dawah Academy and said Academy nurturing the plant of Islam not only in Pakistan but in whole world. He said Dawah Academy is symbol of unity as it’s free from any biased or sectarian inclination. On the occasion in his address Dr. Imtiaz Zafar briefed the participants about the Dawah Academy and about the course. He said Islam condemn all sectarian approaches and give us true sense of unity and brotherhood. Deputy Director Zahir ud Behram is the coordinator of the program that will last two month in which 30 Ulema from across the country participating.
“Rights of Mustafa (peace be on him) and Its Implications” Conference Last Date for Submission of Abstracts: February 17, 2014
Da‘wah Academy, International Islamic University Islamabad is holding a two days National Conference on “Rights of the Mustafa (peace be on him) and its Implications,” on7-8 April, 2014. This National Conference will be held in collaboration with IIUI and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. The Conference will be based on research papers dealing with various aspects of the said topic by the Researchers, Islamic Scholars, and Academic Community of the Universities and Institutions of Higher learning. The details of Themes and Sub-Themes are given in the brochure. The conference shall be held in three languages, Urdu, Arabic and English. The author can choose any of these languages for writing the research papers; however, they will have to present a two page brief of the paper in one of the two remaining languages of the conference.
The last date of submission of the Abstracts is set to be February 17, 2014. The Academic Committee of the Conference will evaluate the Abstract and the last date of announcement of the accepted Abstracts will be February 20, 2014. The last date of Submission of the research Papers will be March 24, 2014. The last date of submission of the two page brief, its translation in one of the two other languages of the conference/the Power Point Presentation will be April 2, 2014.
The conference registration is: Rs. 1000.00 for the Paper presenters; Rs. 600.00 for Participants; and Rs. 400.00 for Students. However, there will be special 25% discount upon pre-registration by April 2, 2014.
The Paper presenters will be entitled for remuneration as per the IIUI rules and the Conference policy. The registered participants will be awarded Conference Kit and Certificates of Participation upon attending all the sessions.
The 2nd meeting of the year 2014 of Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) held on Thursday under the chairmanship of President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. Vice President (Academics) Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan also attended the meeting.
On this occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed the board members to make it sure that research must be impartial and it should not neglect the proper application of research methodology. He directed the deans and head of departments to devise internal committees to evaluate course schemes for avoiding overlapping of the subjects.
During the meeting, the board discussed and analyzed synopses’ of PhD students from Faculty of Social Sciences. The board members also issued valuable instructions for further research work to the students.

PRESIDENT IIUI INAUGURATES BS, MSc ANTHROPOLOGY IN FEMALE CAMPUS
President International Islamic University Islamabad Prof Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh inaugurated Department of Anthropology in Female Campus on yesterday, in which BS, MSc degree program offered in Spring Admission session 2014.
On the occasion Vice President Academics Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani, Director Female Campus Dr. Zaitoon Begum, In-Charge department of Anthropology Dr. Noreen Sehar and new admitted students also attended the inaugural ceremony. President said on the occasion IIUI committed to achieve an excellence in education and this is real mile stone to hit the core destination of IIUI.
Dr. Al-Draiweesh advised the students to prove yourself to accomplish your desired goals and university would provide all possible facility in support. He also instructed the faculty members that the course outline must be according to the teachings of Islam and contemporary time.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ORGANIZES 4TH WORKSHOP ON ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION
Department of Education IIUI organized workshop with the title “Assessment and Evaluation”. The workshop was a part of series of workshops on Professional Development Program for University Teachers.
Dr. Tanveer Afzal from Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad and Dr. Muhammad Idrees Assistant Education Advisor Curriculum Development Government of Pakistan were the resource persons of the workshop. Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani in his address appreciated the initiative taken by department and said “Teachers should have command on the methodology of teaching; they are supposed to be trained accordingly”.
On behalf of Chairperson Department of Education Dr. Sameena Malik, Dr. Shamsa Aziz welcomed the participants of the workshop and briefed about it. It is worth mentioning that in connection of the series the department has successfully conducted and completed 3 workshops already
IIUI ARRANGE VISIT OF SAUDI EDUCATIONIST DELEGATION TO NUML AND AIOU
International Islamic University Islamabad arranged visits and lectures of the Delegation from King Abdullah International Center for Arabic language Saudi Arabia in National University of Modern Language and Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad respectively.
At NUML the delegation was received by the Dean Faculty of Languages and Director General, where a seminar was also conducted on the topic “Role of KSA in spreading Arabic”. Professor Dr. Muhammad Abdul Rehman Al-Hadlaq in his lecture described various efforts and contribution of KSA in the promotion of Arabic language within and outside the country. He also briefed the audience about the objectives and programs of the Center. The delegation also met the Rector NUML Maj Gen Masood Hassan (R) and visited language labs in various departments of NUML.
After that the delegation visited AIOU, where the Vice Chancellor Dr. Nazeer Ahmed Sanghi received them. Professor Dr. Saleh Al-Ghamidi, Dean Faculty of Arts, King Saud University & Professor Dr. Saleh Al-Shasry, Head department of humanities, King Khalid Military College shared their views about “Role of Arabic language in promoting the Islamic Sciences”. The head of delegation Professor Dr. M. Al-Hadlaq, in his address, as chief guest, highlighted the role of King Abdullah International Center in the promotion of Arabic language and expressed his gratitude to the hosts and hoped that this visit would pave the to open new avenues of cooperation for the promotion of Arabic language in Pakistan.
Later on, the delegation paid visit to the Embassy of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and of the Cultural Attaché Dr. Hazza Al-Ghamidi here in Islamabad. Prof. President IIUI Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, accompanied the delegation in their visit. President International Islamic University Islamabad Professor Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, hosted a dinner in the honor of 3 member delegation of the King Abdullah International Center for Arabic language who visited here in IIUI.
Saudi Cultural Attaché in Pakistan Dr. Hazza Al-Ghamidi was also present on the occasion. President Dr. Al-Draiweesh discussed the matters related to the promotion of Arabic language in the university & Pakistan with the delegation. The head delegation, Professor Dr. M. Al-Hadlaq assured that the Center would provide maximum possible cooperation to the University for the Cause of Arabic language.
Earlier, the delegation visited Dr. Hamidullah Library, Faisal Mosque, National Monument, Lake View and Daman-e-Koh. The member took keen interest in these tourist places and National heritage of Pakistan. They thanked IIUI for arranging this recreational trip.
Mrs. Naseem Razi student of Shariah and Law completed her PhD. She successfully defended her thesis, her topic of thesis is “Interpretation of Statutes: A Critical Analysis in Perspective of Islamic Jurisprudence”. Director General, Shariah Academy Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir Mansoori was her supervisor.
While thesis was also evaluated and approved by following two foreigner distinguished professors Dr. Mahdi Zahraa Department of Law, Economics, Accountancy and Risk Glasgow School for Business and Society Glasgow Caledonian University, UK and Prof. Dr. Nedzed Basic Vice Dean Faculty of Law, University in Bihac, Kulin Bara Bosnia and Herze Govina.

ISLAMIC ECONOMIC SYSTEM SOLUTION OF GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS, SAYS DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) said that capitalism and socialism are the causes of prevailing economic crisis in the world while Islamic economic system is the solution of global financial crisis and elimination of poverty. This he said while delivering his address in inaugural ceremony of a two-day international conference on “Islamic Business” held at Faisal Mosque Campus of university which is jointly organized by IIUI, RIPHAH International University (RIU) Rawalpindi and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Opening ceremony was joined by Deputy Governor SBP Saeed Ahmed as chief guest while Pro Chancellor RIU Hassan Muhammad Khan, Prof. Anis Ahmed, Chief Academic Officer (INCEIF) Malaysia Prof. Syed Othman Al-Habshi, Vice President IIUI Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan and various prominent personalities including Prof. Khurshid Ahmed who also delivered keynote address during the ceremony.
“Islamic economic system has revealed the deficiencies of capitalistic paradigm 1400 years ago and world can get rid of present financial crisis by adopting Islamic banking and financial system as it has no deficiencies and it deals on the basis of equity” said President IIUI. He added Islam is a complete religion which addresses all aspects of life and there is a dire need to study the Islamic law of transactions because it may lead the world towards prosperity and end of economic inequality.
While stressing upon Islamic economic researchers he urged for promotion of Islamic economics. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said IIUI is ready to provide platform for organizing such conferences and vowed that university would provide maximum support to all institutions which want to work on promotion of Islamic economics. He maintained that Islamic economic paradigm is the only solution of prevailing problems in financial system. President IIUI also announced that university would soon organize an international conference on “Economics in Islam and Globalization”. He lauded the efforts of organizers for arranging conference on a contemporary and important topic.
During his keynote address in the conference, Prof, Khurshid Ahmed discussed risk and equity based investments and financing to resolve the global financial problems. He stressed upon the paradigm shift of economics and urged for Islamic economic reforms. He urged Muslim world for self reliance while asking to end dependency on capitalism. He added that Muslim countries’ decision making should be according to Islamic values.
Saeed Ahmed urged for promotion of Islamic banking and equity while utilizing the private equality fund in the light of Islamic paradigm. He said a only Islamic system is the need of hour, which protects the welfare of masses and positive use of resources and helps to fight the challenges of prevailing financial crisis.
Earlier, the ceremony was also addressed by Hassan M. Khan who highlighted the objectives and theme of the conference. At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Al-Draiweesh distributed souvenirs among the distinguished guests while a special souvenir was also presented to Dr. Al-Draiweesh by RIU.
On the first day of the conference, topics such as equity investments, corporate governance of Islamic institutions and trust and institutions building for promoting Islamic finance were discussed in its four sessions where various eminent scholars presented their papers and delivered lectures. President and Chairman of the Board of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud visited Faisal Mosque Campus of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) on Friday where he was warmly welcomed by the President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh.
Royal guest was briefed by the President IIUI regarding Faisal Mosque where he along with his son Prince Salman Bin Sultan Bin Sulman Bin Abdulaziz and other delegation members, took keen interest in unique building of Faisal mosque and termed it as a prestigious example of strong Pak-Saudi bilateral relations. Saudi ambassador to Pakistan Abdulaziz Ibrahim Saleh Al-Ghadeer was also present on the occasion.
Prince Sultan thanked IIUI and Pakistani Govt. for warm hospitality and said it was a memorable visit to the brotherly country which provided opportunities to see valuable monuments such as Faisal Mosque.

Prince Sultan is an avid pilot with more than 7000 flight hours who represented Arab Sat – the Arab world’s satellite agency, to be among the crew of the Space Shuttle Discovery as Payload Specialist on its Mission STS 51G. He was the first Arab, the first Muslim, and the first member of royalty in space. Prince Sultan is also active in many charitable and humanitarian organizations.
DELEGATION OF KING ABDULLAH CENTRE FOR ARABIC DELIVERS LECTURES, VISITS CENTRAL LIBRARY
A 3 member delegation of King Abdullah International Centre for Arabic Language delivered lectures in male and female campuses of the university and visited central library of the university.
Delegation was headed by Dr. Muhammad al-Hadlaq, Ex-Chairman Board of Trustees for the Centre and comprised of renowned scholars and experts in the field of Arabic language and literature.
Prof. Dr. Salih al-Shathri head of the Department of Humanities, Military College of King Khalid, delivered a lecture on the topic “Teaching of Arabic Language in women community” in a seminar organized at Female Campus.
Meanwhile, Dr. Salih bin Mueed Al-Ghamadi Dean Faculty of Literature, , King Saud University delivered lecture on” Teaching of Arabic Language in Islamic Societies” in the seminar room of Faculty of Shariah & Law. The purpose of these seminars was to discuss various ways of cooperation between IIUI and the Centre for the promotion of Arabic Language in Pakistan. The lectures were followed by discussion, exchange of views and suggestions for mutual cooperation to promote Arabic language.
Delegates also visited Central Library of University where Chief Librarian briefed them about the services of the library, its digital resources and online catalogue system. Later, “Pakistan Arabic Teachers Association” (PATA) organized a luncheon the honour of the delegation. A briefing was also given to the Delegation about the objectives & programs of PATA.
DELEGATION OF KING ABDULLAH INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR ARABIC LANGUAGE VISITS IIUI, DISCUSSES PROMOTION OF ARABIC
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and King Abdullah International Center for Arabic Language have agreed to cooperate for promotion of Arabic language in Pakistan. A 3-member delegation from the Centre headed by Dr. Muhammad al-Hadlaq, Ex-Chairman Board of Trustees for the Center visited IIUI and met with Vice President IIUI Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan, Dean faculty of Arabic Hafiz Muhammad Bashir, Heads of departments and faculty members of the Arabic at IIUI where mutual cooperation for promotion of Arabic was discussed.
Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan (Vice President Academics) thanked the delegation on behalf of the university and the President IIUI Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh. He said that the visit of the delegation to the university shall open avenues for joint programs for the sake of Arabic Language. Vice President Academics also presented shields to the members of the delegation on behalf of the President IIUI.
Dean Faculty of Arabic briefed the delegation about various departments and programs in the Faculty. Meanwhile, the Delegation met with Male and Female Faculty of IIUI at the Seminar Room of Central Library. In this introductory meeting the Head of the Delegation briefed the faculty about the objectives, programs and projects of the Center. This briefing was followed by discussion, exchange of views and suggestions for mutual cooperation.
Later, a luncheon was also arranged in the honor of the delegation where Deans of Faculties professors and teachers exchanged ideas with the delegation for the development of the Arabic Language in IIUI and Pakistan.
IIUI CONFERS HONORARY DEGREE TO KING ABDULLAH BIN ABDUL AZIZ AL-SAUD
King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia was conferred honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Politics and International Relations Honoris Cousa by International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), on the occasion of 9th convocation of the university.
President of Pakistan and Chancellor International Islamic University Islamabad Mamnoon Hussain, on recommendations of the Board of Governors, Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, approved the conferment of degree to King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud.
The university’s highest award was conferred on King Abdullah by IIUI Chancellor and President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain, which was received by Pro-Chancellor IIUI Dr. Sulaiman Ibn Abdullah Aba Al-Khail on behalf of King Abdullah.
King Abdullah, who is the custodian of the two holy mosques in Saudi Arabia, was awarded the degree in recognition of his contributions for welfare of people of Muslim Ummah. He is well known personality for his great interest education cultural aspects and commendable contribution in education, the humanity at large and international peace, harmony and tranquility.
IIUI has also conferred degrees to world famous leaders in its various convocations which include former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela, former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohammad, Dato Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi, Prince Hassan Bin Talal of Jordan and Dr. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, Secretary General OIC.
