IIUI to organize Free IT Training Programmes
The IT Department of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has launched an IT Training Programme on permanent basis to update the IT knowledge of the end-users of all faculty members, officers and staff. The detail of courses offered is as under: –
“End-User PC Security Threats”, “Network Security” “IIU Web Content Updating (For Web Focal Persons of Faculties/Offices)”, “Better Web Searching/Surfing”, “Excel for Accounting”, “Computing Basics”, “Creating Exciting Presentations” , “Cell Phone Safety Tips”, “Stress Management” , “Protect Your Spine”, “Using Outlook Express”. The first programme of the series shall start on March 1st, 2011 at the Central Library of the IIUI at 12:00 noon.
Gulzar Ahmad Khawaja appointed as Senior Director IIUI
Gulzar Ahmad Khawaja has been appointed as Senior Director, Strategic Planning & Academic Coordination of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). He has assumed his new responsibility.
Participants of 47th Islamic Orientation Program for Lecturers from all over the country organized by Da’wah Academy of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) visited new campus of the university. Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector IIUI and Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, President IIUI briefed the delegation. They told the delegation about objectives, functioning and other aspects of the university. They told them that the university is imparting education in all fields of life. Soon the university shall open its branches in other parts of the country as well, added Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik and Dr. Mumtaz.
USWA IIUI ELECTIONS COMPLETED MAZDOOR ITEHAD GROUP WINS
The Elections of the executive body of the University Staff Welfare Association (USWA) of the International Islamic University Islamabad completed here at University’s Old, New and Female Campuses simultaneously. About 1700 employees of the Grade 1 to 16 participated in the elections. Two groups namely Insaf and Mazdoor Ithad contested polls. Mazdoor Ithad Group won the election by securing 877 votes while Insaf Group bagged 538 votes. Total 1422 votes were polled while 11 votes were rejected.
Names of newly elected body of the USWA are, Muhammad Nazeer, President, Muhammad Nazir, Senior Vice-President, Muhammad Bashir, Vice-President-I, Zameer Akhtar, Vice-President-II, Sardar Hussain, General Secretary, M. Ijaz Satti, Additional General Secretary, Muhammad Saleem, Joint Secretary, Ms. Nadia Malik, Press Secretary, Muhammad Asif, Finance Secretary, Riasat Mehmood, Social Secretary, Tanveer Ahmed Qureshi, Sports Secretary & M. Shoukat Awan, Office Secretary.
Names of candidates of loser group are Samar Iqbal, President, Javaid Khan, Senior Vice-President, Nazim Ali, Vice-President-I, Ms. Nusrat Sultana, Vice-President-II, Zahid Iqbal Malik, General Secretary, Amjad Mehmood, Additional General Secretary, Muhammad Shaban, Joint Secretary, Khalid Mehmood Kiyani, Press Secretary, Sajid Mehmood, Finance Secretary, Janab Gul, Social Secretary, Pervaiz Masih, Sports Secretary & Ishrad Ahmad, Office Secretary.
The election process was supervised by a special committee constituted by the IIU administration. The committee was headed by Syed Hassan Aftab Kazmi, Additional Director (Academics). 2010 Leading Books Reviewed By Syed Muzammil Hussain
Syed Muzammil Hussain, Deputy Director (Public Relations), International Islamic University Islamabad has completed a review of literary, religious and language books, published during 2010. Elaborating details in this regard, he referred to the economic development to find the status of over all progress of a nation and added that moral development is also the backbone of national progress which can only be achieved through reading books. But, unfortunately, people of Pakistan are less attentive towards reading books, a phenomenon which is promoting the culture of intolerance in the society. He said that we can see the tragic situation in the country that even the first edition of a book is published in very little quantity as compared to the overall population of the country which shows our less interest in the books, however.

This book has been published by the Iqbal International Institute of International Islamic University Islamabad for research and dialogue. As mentioned earlier the review also includes an important book “Religious sects of Pakistan (Pakistan kay deeni masalik)” written by Saqib Akbar.
All the existing sects like Brelvi, Deobandi, Ahl-e-Hadeeth, Isna-Ashri and Ismailis were thoroughly discussed in this book. The book gives brief introduction of the sect, beliefs, organizational structure, similarities and differences with other sects and other issues like number of followers, seminaries and their organization.
The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) organized “Kashmir Solidarity Day” in its Female Campus. Sardar Muhammad Anwar Khan, ex-president of Azad Jammu & Kashmir was chief guest on the occasion. Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector, IIU presided over the ceremony while Qaisra Alvi, Director Female Campus and Female Faculty members, administrative officers, female staff members and a large number of female students were also present on the occasion.
Sardar Muhammad Anwar Khan said that struggle of Pakistan regarding the independence of Kashmir is very important and the celebration of “Kashmir Solidarity Day” is a part of that chain. Kashmir is important especially for the agricultural sustainability of Pakistan. He said that Quaid-e-Azam termed Kashmir a must for Pakistan. It was because of Kashmir geopolitical and strategic position on the world map.
Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik said that the religious and historical background with Kashmiris was the main reason of our relations with their struggle. He said that soon Kashmir will get its right of self determination and Pakistanis shall never leave their brethren in their hour of miseries and troubles.
Qaisra Alvi in her remarks appreciated sentiments of friendship and brotherhood between Pakistan and Kashmir. She said that like students of the other institutions, the Islamians are also with Kashmiris.
Female students presented Kashmiri National Songs and spoke on various dimensions of Kashmir’s history and historic struggle for self determination.
Book Fair Starts at Faisal Mosque Four day Seerah Activities Launched
A book fair at Dawah Academy of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) started as part of five-day programmes of Holy month of Rabi-ul-Awwal here on Tuesday. The activities of the five day celebrations started with the book fair organized at the Faisal Mosque Campus of the university. Over 40 publishers from all over the country are participating in this book fair. A special discount upto 50 percent is being provided to the readers at this book fair.
Dr. Zafar Ishaq Ansari, Vice President IIUI inaugurated the book fair. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, President IIUI and Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, Director General, Dawah Academy were also present on the occasion. Faculty Members, Administrative officers, staff members and a large number of students also attended the inaugural ceremony of the book fair.
Dr. Zafar Ishaq Ansari said that habit of book reading depicts progress of any particular community or nation in its civilization. He added that Muslims were pioneers of book reading as the first verse of the holy Quran starts with “IQRA” means “read” and target of reading cannot be achieved without book.
Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad said that holding book fairs is a new dimension of Dawah Academy which is pawing way for spreading the message of the academy at large scale. Hairan Khattak organizer of the book fair and head of the publication department of Dawah Academy also addressed on the occasion.

On February 09, Husn-e-Quran will be arranged at Allama Iqbal Auditorium with the participation of renowned reciters of the country. Mehfil-e-Naat will be held on February 10 in which popular Naat Khawans of the country will present Hamd-o-Naat. All Pakistan Seerat Conference entitled as “Seerat Ka Pegham – Asr-e-Hazir Kay Naam” will be held on February 11 at Faisal Mosque which will be addressed by leading political and religious figures of the country. Seerat conference for women shall be held at Faisal Mosque Campus on February 12.

Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) attended State Alumni Leadership Development Camp 2011 organized by the South Asian Youth Society in Collaboration with U.S. Department of State and U.S. Embassy Dhaka held at Convention Center, Gazipur, Dhaka recently. Dr. Mumtaz spoke on “Muslims in US” during the camp.
Dr. Mumtaz said that despite negative impact of 9/11 incident Muslims in US are getting more and more importance in the national arena. He added that thirst for Islamic literature has increased manifold in US society now. It is worth mentioning that before joining IIUI Dr. Mumtaz was associated with Hampton University, Virginia, USA and his paper at the Bangladesh Camp was in that context. Dr. Mumtaz also shared information on the International Islamic University, Islamabad with the participants of the camp.
Dr. Zafarullah Baig, Professor of Islamic Studies of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has been appointed as Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies (FIS, Usuluddin) of the university for a period of three years with immediate effect. Earlier he was working as Deputy Dean of the same faculty.
The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has decided to hold 2 year elections of the University Staff Welfare Association (USWA) on 22nd February, 2011. This was decided by Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector IIUI and Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, President IIUI here on Monday.
According to details a special committee has been formed to supervise the elections with Syed Hassan Aftab Kazmi, Additional Director Admission of the university as its chairman. Other member of the committee include Ch. Muhammad Hussain, Deputy Director Shariah Academy, Hafiz Bashir Ahmad, Deputy Director, Dawah Academy, Syed Muzammil Hussain Shah, Deputy Director Public Relations, Muhammad Ijaz Abbasi, Assistant Director, Noor Hussain, Assistant Director, Nuzhat Zareen, Deputy Director, Nosheen Syed, Assistant Director, Rubab Fatima, Assistant Director.
The Inter Technology Cricket Tournament organized by the Iqra Centre for Technical Education (ICTE) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) was held.. Twelve teams comprising of students of different technologies participated in the event. The final of the tournament was played between teams of Mechanical Technology and Electrical Technology. After a well contested match it was won by Mechanical Technology.
Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector IIUI was the Chief guest at the final match and the concluding ceremony of the tournament. He gave away the prizes to the winners and participants of the event. He appreciated the students for their healthy participation and praised the ICTE Management and the Tournament Committee for their valuable efforts. He also stressed the need to enhance the curricula activities at the Centre. Among others, Principal ICTE, Deputy Director (Sports) IIU main and senior faculty members of Faculty of Engineering & Technology and ICTE were present.
