IIUI publishes Proceedings of International Conference on “Power Generation Systems & Renewable Energy Technologies”
Proceedings of the International Conference on “Power Generation Systems & Renewable Energy Technologies” held last year have been published by the Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). The major topics of the conference were: – Hydro power generation systems and technologies, Renewable energy, Solar power generation system and technologies, Energy systems and technology, Fossil fuels power generation systems and technologies, Nuclear power generation systems and technologies, Energy applications of nanotechnology, etc.
This conference was attended by a number of renowned scientists from Pakistan and abroad. 125 Research & Development Papers were presented on the theme of the conference. There was 14 keynote tasks in the conference discussed by the internationally known experts in the energy. The proceedings book of the conference will be distributed to all principal authors of the research papers and will be also sent to the libraries of the national and international universities. This conference will help to discover and invent new energy sources in Pakistan and help in the reduction of loadshedding in the country.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad sponsored the conference and asked the FET, IIUI to conduct this conference annually under its sponsorship.
The editors of the proceedings were Dr. M Afzal Khan, Secretary General of the conference, Dr. Ghulam Yasin Chohan, Dean FET, IIUI and Dr. Ahmad Shujah Sayyed of the FET, IIUI who presented copies of the proceedings of the conference to to Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector IIUI and Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, President IIUI.
Dr. M. Nazrul Islam, Foreign Professor & Chairman of Department of Politics & I.R, Ex. Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and Principal Investigator of the National Research Programme for universities (NRPU) of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad has submitted final report of the Research project on the topic of “Parliamentary Committees in Pakistan and Bangladesh”. This task was assigned to him by the HEC. It was a two year project conducted by Dr. Nazrul Islam as a “Principal Investigator”. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, President IIUI has written an Introduction to the same research project. Dr. Nazrul Islam presented copies of the report to Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector IIU and Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, President IIU.
Andre Paquet, Deputy Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) called on Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) on Tuesday. He exchanged views with the President IIU on various issues of mutual interest especially about holding a conference in collaboration with the Islamic University on Human Rights in near future. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad lauded the efforts of ICRC for the people affected by disasters, by protecting civilians, reuniting families, ensuring economic activities, safeguarding health care and other fields on humanitarian basis in Pakistan and other countries of the world.
64th Independence Day was celebrated at the central library of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). Rector IIUI presided over the Ceremony while Professor Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, Director General Dawah Academy was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, President IIUI, Professor Qaisrah Alvi, Director Female campus, Saadia Tahir, student advisor (Female), Dr. Safeer Awan and a large number of students and staff members attended the ceremony.
Professor Fateh Malik, Rector of IIU said that Pakistan is our Identity and we are proud to be Pakistanis. Professor Malik added that there is no importance of number game in building the ideology of nations, but the actual importance is of the culture and traditions. Professor Malik further added that Pakistan came into being to provide a separate state to the Muslims where they can practice their religious norms & values with dignity. Professor Malik said that the greatest challenges faced by the Pakistan is terrorism, fanaticism, corruption, economic collapse, deprivation of nationalities living in the backward federating units and socio-economic injustices and disparities. But these are continuously being ignored or tackled half-heartedly, said Prof. Malik.
He added that bread and butter was also a basic reason for creation of Pakistan as if a person struggles for bread and butter, it has no harm for his or her religion. Islam recognizes basic needs of human beings and surely bread and butter are of this kind. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad President IIU said that no doubt Pakistanis are facing inflation, corruption, power shortages and terrorism but we have learned at every stage how to survive, and this was the strong point necessary for the survival of any nation. He strongly condemned the debates of ‘failure state about Pakistan’ by some critiques and writers in the media.
Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad said that ideology of Pakistan was being questioned by vested interests. Pakistan was established to safeguard rights of Muslims and present situation of Muslims in India is an evidence of justification of Pakistan. The Chief Guest Dr. Sajid ur Rehman said that Pakistan was the objective of the struggle of all the Muslims of sub-continent, which was historically revealed to the Muslims from the past. He added that according to Muslims the term “nation” is different from others and this was the basic reason why the Muslims of sub-continent strived for a separate country.
Dr. Sajid ur Rehman paid rich tribute to Quaid e Azam and said that there were some confusions i.e. some have modern & some have traditional thinking in the Muslims during the struggle for Pakistan, which were quite sensitive, but our great leader solved those issues very intelligently. He said that there was a philosophy behind Pakistan but unfortunately we have ignored that and as a result we are suffering the consequences.
IIUI to get more Egyptian teachers; Promises Ambassador
Egypt shall depute more teachers at the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in near future. It was promised by Ambassador of Arab Republic of Egypt to Pakistan Magdy Mahmoud Helmy Amer who visited the University on Wednesday.
He was received by Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik and Dr Mumtaz Ahmed Rector and President of the University respectively. They briefed him on academic as well as cultural role of the Islamic university. Gulzar Ahmad Khwaja, Director General IIUI was also present on the occasion.
Magdy Mahmoud Helmy Amer praised the role of the Islamic University in imparting quality education not only in this region but all over the world. He assured keen interest in the activities of the university and assure that his country would depute more teachers to IIUI to teach Islamic Philosophy, Islamic Intellectual thoughts, Islamic Art and Architecture, History of Modern Middle east Literature, History of Ismaili and mystical thoughts and other fields. Both Professors Fateh Malik and Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad appreciated role of Egyptians in reformist movements and especially in the sub continent. They added that Egypt was always a torch bearer of the reformists in the Muslims world.
About Islamic University Prof. Malik and Dr. Mumtaz said that it was Egypt which developed Faculty of the University in last 30 years which resulted in self sufficiency now. They added that even present head of Al-Azhar Dr. Ahmad Tayyab had also taught at the IIUI years back.
Egyptian ambassador in his concluding remarks promised to pave way for deputation of more Egyptian teachers to IIUI very soon. University crest was presented to the Egyptian envoy.
The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) is organizing “The Independence Day of Pakistan” with the theme: “Pakistan: Apprehensions and Expectations” on Thursday 11th August 2011 at 10:00 am at its central library. The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has announced the results of admission for Fall 2011 of all announced faculties. Results are placed at the faculty blocks and admission block at H-10 Campus of the university and have been uploaded at IIUI website http://iiu.edu.pk for easy access of students. all information regarding admission and fee is also available at the website.

The administration of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has decided to upgrade the Iqra Centre For Technical Education (ICTE) to Iqra College of Technology (ICT). Admissions are started in three years diploma of Associate Engineering and 04 years degree of B-Tech Mechanical. The diploma will be awarded by the technical board and four years degree will be awarded by IIUI.
Hujjat-ul-Islam Aqa-e-Muallami, Member of the Supreme Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran who is also advisor to the Ministry of the Culture visited the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) on Friday. Cultural Counsellor of Iran based in Islamabad Ali Aqa Noori accompanied him. Hujjat-ul-Islam Aqa-e-Muallami was received by Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector of the Islamic University who briefed him on academic as well as cultural role of the Islamic university. Hujjat-ul-Islam Aqa-e-Muallami praised the role of IIUI in imparting quality education in this region. Both sides decided to strengthen academic relations between IIUI and Iranian universities.
Especially they vowed to further enhance activities of the Gosha-e-Iqbal (Iqbal Corner) at the central library of the university. They hoped that this will help in making a cultural bridge between Islamabad and Tehran.
Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik presented IIUI crest and souvenir to the visiting Iranian delegation. Later the Hujjat-ul-Islam Aqa-e-Muallami visited the central library of the university where he was briefed by Muhammad Rafique Chaudhry, Principal Librarian about the library in general and Goshah-e-Iqbal in particular.
A lecture on “welcome Ramadan” was held at the female campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). Professor Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, Director General Dawah Academy was the chief guest on the occasion. Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector IIUI, Professor Qaiserah M. Alvi, Director, Female Campus, IIUI and Saadia Tahir, Student Advisor (female) were also present.
Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik said that Ramadan is not just to arrange Iftari or Iftar party, but it is the name of spiritual maturity. He added that we can achieve success in this world and hereafter by following the guidelines of Quran.
Professor Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman said that fasting was according to the spiritual and material needs of Muslim Ummah, to bring taqwa. He added that it is the month of revelation of the Quran, the month of reading and reciting the whole Quran, the month of Tahajjud and the month of Tarawih prayers, of Sadaqah and Zakah-ul-Fitr. It is a shield for Protection from Sins.
Professor Sajud ur Rehman further added that Ramadan links all the Muslims of the world to interact, communicate and share numerous religious and spiritual understandings. The poor of the society should be helped in this month. He urged that students should communicate the message of Ramadan to everyone in the society, so that all the members of the society get blessing in this holy month of Ramadan.
Some students also spoke on the occasion and elaborated their views about Quran and Ramadan.
FM Radio Station of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has started special Ramadan transmission. IIUI FM Radio will broadcast these transmissions from 12:00 am to 05:00 pm everyday during the Ramadan. According to the IIUI Spokesman the IIUI FM Radio will broadcast religious informative programmes, Interviews and speeches of renowned religious scholars and especially the Urdu Translation of the part of the Quran Majeed being recited during the Namaz-eTraveeh.
IIUI to hold Welcome Ramadan Address at its female campus
A welcome Ramadan Address is being held on (Wednesday) 03rd August, 2011 at 11:00 am at Female Campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) . Director General Dawah Academy, Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman will be the guest speaker of the event.
Poor Patients Welfare Organization (PPWO), Ayub Medical College Abbottabad held a Blood Donation Camp at Female Campus, International Islamic University, Islamabad to sheathe the increasing demand of blood for deserving Thallassemic patients. This student based organization has been working in health and education sector since 1979. Every year PPWO organizes Blood Donation Camps to donate the blood to deserving patients specially Thallassemic patients. Blood was collected from healthy and voluntary blood donors who had the privilege of free testing against Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS alongwith free blood grouping. PPWO had 12 females in their team to smooth the progress of the camp among female donors. Admission tests and interviews are also being held in IIUI and candidates had gotten this opportunity to have free testing against some infectious deseaeses. The participation of female students in this camp was really admirable and it showed up their positive approach towards the welfare of poor patients. At the end of the day of this camp the Chairman PPWO were quite happy with the students and faculty member for their cooperation.
Human Rights Forum (IIUI) as an aspiring forum aiming at reassuring and encouraging Human Rights with the mission to promote and expound the concept, and limit the interpretation of some fundamental freedoms. Awareness of Human Rights through various interactive activities.”
Human Rights Forum has organized two days 26th and 27th July, 2011 awareness campaign and poster competition on the theme of “Promotion of Human Rights”. The motive of this campaign was to make the people know about their basic and fundamental human rights as well as the universal and national documents which guaranteed these rights. The team of HRF displayed all Rights provide by UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) through Banners and Brochures.
Director (Female Campus) Professor. Qaiserah M. Alvi inaugurated the event and along with Ms. Tasneem Shujatt (A renowned Artist) evaluated the posters. As decided by them, Ms. Mussarat Yasmin has won first prize, Ms. Saima Tabassum second prize, Ms. Sumaira Aziz third prize and Ms. Maria Safeer consolation prize.
“Islam through Quran & Sunnah, not through culture & tradition” Say Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik & Dr. Sajid ur Rehman
Rector, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), Professor Fateh Muhmmad Malik has said that we should understand Islam by Quran & Sunnah, not by the regional customs & traditions. He said this while addressing the concluding ceremony of a series of workshops on “women rights in the light of Islam” funded by the Asia Foundation, Pakistan. Dr. Sahibzada sajid ur Rehman, Director General, Dawah Academy was the chief guest of the ceremony while Mr. Gareth Aicken, country representative, Asia Foundation, Pakistan, Professor Dr. Muhammad Zai-ul-Haq, Dean, Faculty of social sciences, IIU, and Mrs. Shagufta Haroon, Director Academics, IIU also addressed on the occasion.
Professor Malik lauded the efforts of Asia Foundation for financing such noble cause. He said that we should bring Islam in our lives for success. He added that Islam gave equal rights to men & women and there is no reason to say that women have lesser rights then men.
Professor Dr. Sajid ur Rehman said that unfortunately the rights which Islam gave to women are not practiced by the society. He said that women rights in any Muslim society are indispensable and should be given at every cost as this is the teaching of our religion. Director General Dawah Academy further said that we should present real picture of Islam to the world.
Mr. Gareth Aicken, country representative of the Asia Foundation Pakistan appreciated the efforts of IIU for holding series of workshops on “women rights in the light of Islam”. He said that this project was initiated to bring real justice in Pakistani society. We have also launched similar projects in Bangladesh and Nepal as well. According to Mr. Gareth, this project was regional but the impact of this is international. He hoped that the people who have been trained through this project shall share their experiences and learning to others so that it could benefit the whole society.
Shagufta Haroon, Director Academics of the university and Dr. Zia-ul-Haq, Dean Faculty of Shariah and Law and other leading personalities also addressed the concluding ceremony. A book namely “Social Justice For Women in Islamic Perspective” was also published as outcome of this series of workshops on women rights.
“Muslims should understand western mindset” says Pakistani-Danish scholar Mr. Irfan Gilani
A Pakistani-Danish scholar Mr. Irfan Gilani from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark delivered a lecture on “Islam & the West” at the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with Iqbal International Institute for Research & Dialogue (IRD) of IIUI. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, President IIU, Dr. Zafar Ishaq Ansari, Vice President, IIU and Dr. Talib Hussain Sayal, Director Programs & Coordination IRD were also present on the occasion.
Mr. Irfan Gilani said that the nature of the relationships of Islam & the west largely depends upon the dimensions of Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC). Mr. Gilani said that we cannot survive without west as they have state of the art technology and standard education system, which motivates the Muslims to interact with the west. The Muslims need to distinguish between Islamic values and foreign policy of the western world, said Mr. Gilani.
The Pakistani-Danish scholar said that the Muslims living in the west face direct reaction from the local community of the strikes in the Muslim countries against the west. He urged that we as a Muslim Ummah should strongly develop consensus about any reaction against the west and should analyse the situation rationally. Mr. Gialni condemned that unfortunately any terrible situation is linked with the Muslims in the west without proper verification & authentication.
Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad President IIU welcomed the Pakistani-Danish scholar and said that we should not consider the west as a person but a nation, and we should respond them as nation. He appreciated that when US attacked Iraq, the most crowded protests in New York and other western capitals and that was also strongly condemned by the Churches organization there.
Dr. Zafar Ishaq Ansari, Vice President IIU said that we should first analyse the situation and then decide to make accurate decisions as a nation. He said that the Muslim Ummah faced immense losses due to irrational decisions during the last twenty five years.

DR. SHAHID SIDDIQUI SPEAKS ON “POLITICS OF EDUCATION SECTOR REFORMS” AT IIUI
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui, renowned scholar and educationist from the Lahore School of Economics (LUMS) gave a presentation on “Politics of Education Sector Reforms” at the Central Library of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector IIUI presided over the lecture. The presentation was arranged by the Critical Thinking Forum (CTF) of the IIUI.
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said that education sector reforms always help in shaping minds of people. He said that western nations were fully aware of this basic reality and due to this always education sector for bringing changes in the society.
Dr. Siddiqui was of the view that Muslims are lagging behind other nations in this regard. Prof. Fateh Muhamamd Malik said that the IIUI has took many steps to reform its educational system and standard. Dr. Munazza Yaqoob, Chairperson Deptt. Of English of the IIUI also spoke on the occasion.
