Dr. Khalid Masood Appointed as Director General Islamic Research Institute, IIUI
Dr. Khalid Masood has been appointed as Director General of Islamic Research Institute (IRI), International Islamic University, Islamabad. He has served various national and international educational institutions as well as research organizations. Earlier Dr. Khalid Masood has served as chairman of the council of Islamic ideology, academic director, international institute for the study of Islam in the modern world, leiden, the Netherlands, postdoctoral fellow (1977-8), university of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA and Phd supervisor, Qauid-e-Azam University, Islamabad. He is a Fulbright scholar, nominated for presidential award, best researcher award and presidential Iqbal award.
Da’wah Academy to Dedicate Rabi al-Awwal for Spreading Seerah message
Da’wah Academy of the International Islamic University, Islamabad has decided to dedicate the whole month of Rabi al Awwal to create awareness among masses about the message of the Seerat-un-Nabi ( SWAS). Professor Dr Sajid-ur-Rehman, Vice President of the university called a meeting of the heads of the various sections of Da’wah Academy and formed committees. These committees will organize different programmes to highlight the various factors of Seerat un Nabi.
Dr. Sajid ur Rehman said creating awareness of various factors of Seerat un Nabi in educational institutions is tradition of Dawah Academy. He said that the message of Seerat must be a hallmark of all the activities of Muslims and to meet that requirement Da’wah academy has chalked out a comprehensive programme to commemorate the Rabi al-Awwal, the birth month of the Holy Prophet in a befitting manner.
Dr. Sajid added that the academy shall hold a series of lectures, Mahafil-e-Husn-e-Qira’t, Hamd o Na’at and a Book Fair both at the Faisal Mosque and the New Campus of the University. All khutbas of Fridays of this month at the Faisal Mosque shall be dedicated for Seerah message, concluded Dr. Sajid.
In the meanwhile fifth Shariah Orientation Course for the lawyers of Chatral District Bar concluded at the Shariah Academy, International Islamic University Islamabad. Prof. Dr. Tahir Mansoori, Director General, Shariah Academy presided over the concluding ceremony. Faculty members, officers and twenty seven practicing lawyers from District Bar Court of Chitral and Tehsil Bar Courts of Booni and Drosh participated in the course.
Fifth Shariah Orientation Course for the lawyers of Chitral District Bar concluded at the Shariah Academy, International Islamic University Islamabad. Prof. Dr. Tahir Mansoori, Director General, Shariah Academy presided over the concluding ceremony.
Speaking to the course participants, Dr Mansoori said that the purpose of such courses is to equip the lawyers with the knowledge of Islamic legal philosophy and clear concept of Shari’ah according to need of the day. He added that Islamic corporate institutions are increasing day by day and getting more attention of Pakistani corporate market. This situation demands that our lawyers community should be more knowledgeable about Islamic Law. He also congratulated the course participants on the successful completion.
Earlier Mr. Ghulam Hazrat Ali, President District Bar Court, Chitral thanked to the management and faculty members on organizing this event. He requested Shariah Academy to replicate this course in Chitral during the summer season to facilitate local lawyers. Faculty members, officers and twenty seven practicing lawyers from District Bar Court of Chitral and Tehsil Bar Courts of Booni and Drosh participated in the course.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan has been appointed as Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences (FMS) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). He has wide experience of about 33 years of teaching and research both in the universities of Pakistan and abroad. He has been the Chairman of the Department of Public Administration at Gomal University, and Chairman Higher Studies and Research at IIUI. He also worked for about four years at International Islamic University, Malaysia and University of Science, Malaysia, Penang. He was the founding Chairman of Higher Studies and Research at International Islamic University, Islamabad. He got his post-graduate degrees in the field of Management Studies, Comparative and International administration from the University of Leeds, England and New York University, USA respectively. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines. Prior to joining IIUI he was working as a Professor and Director Research MBA/BBA programs at Iqra University Islamabad.
OATH TAKING Ceremony OF OFFICER WELFARE ASSOCIATION AT IIU
Oath taking ceremony of the officers welfare association, International Islamic University, Islamabad (OWA) is held at the university new campus sector H-10 Islamabad. Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector IIU was the chief guest whereas Professor Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, vice president IIU has presided over the ceremony. Both new and old office bearers of Officer Welfare Association (OWA), representatives of University Staff Welfare Association (USWA) and Academic Staff Welfare Association (ASA) have participated in the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Fateh Malik congratulates the new office bearers of officer welfare association (OWA) and said that human capital is the backbone of any organization, excluding the cadre and hierarchy. He appreciated the efforts of outgoing office bearers OWA for the development of the university and advises the new bearers to follow the same practice. The university will arrange more training programs to improve the capacity of the employees, said Professor Malik while answering to the question of newly elected president OWA, Raja Munir.
Dr. Sajid Ur Rehman said that every one is accountable to the Almighty Allah to work according to the responsibilities and targets assigned. He said that IIU always appreciated the services of the employees and also rewarded them according to the policy and procedures. He further said that the employees could be the best source to solve the problems of any organizations because they know well how the problem created and how it will be solved.
The newly elected president of OWA, Raja Munir said that he himself and all the staff members will try our level best in order to create pleasant and effective working atmosphere at the campus. He said that the association will work for the welfare of the officers, but our first priority will be the welfare of the university.
Earlier, meeting of the general body of officer welfare association (OWA) was held and the Rector IIU, Professor Fateh Malik took oath from the newly elected office bearers. All the office bearers of OWA was elected unopposed, there names are: Raja Muhammad Munir, President, Saif ur Rehman, vice president, Rana Asghar Ali Shahid, general secretary, Hawa Yasin, joint secretary, Mr. Noor Hussain, secretary finance, Sayed Muzammil Hussain, secretary information and Mr. Altaf Ullah Barki, cultural secretary. The election was administered by a committee comprising of Chaudhry Muhammad Hussain, Mrs Nuzhat Zareen and Aftab Abbassi.
A meeting of Ph. D Review committee was held here at the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) on Monday. The committee comprised Dr. Riaz Hussian Qureshi, Advisor (HRD) Higher Education Commission, Prof. Dr. Khalid Mehmood Khan, Vice Chancellor Arid Agricultural University, Rawalpindi, Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman, Vice Chancellor Azad Jammu and Kashmir University and Dr. Saeeda Asadullah, former Vice Chancellor, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid Ur Rehman, Vice President, IIUI, deans and directors of various departments of IIUI spoke on the occasion.
Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman briefed the committee about the higher education standards practiced at IIUI. He said that Higher Education Commission is playing important role to promote quality higher education in the country. Dr. Sajid Ur Rehman briefed the participants about the subsidiary units of the IIUI. He said that the Islamic Research Institute was established under the Constitution of Pakistan 1962 and is regarded highly all over the world. He said that it is a matter of great pleasure to say that this unit has 200 publications which is an ample work in the filed of research. He further said that Shariah Academy of IIUI is frequently organizing various Islamic orientation courses for judges, lawyers, Muftis and other persons associated with legal departments and this work of the Shariah Academy made it one of the prominent institute of the country. He also highlighted the role of Dawah Academy to translate the Holy Quran into eleven different languages from which peoples of various nations are benefiting. Dr. Sajid ur Rehman said that IIUI is proud to say that its publications are also became part of syllabus of many universities such as Malaysia and Bangladesh.
Department of Urdu of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with Ahmad Faraz Trust celebrated Ahmad Fraz’s birthday here on January 12 at Quaid-e-Azam Auditorium of IIUI. Governor Khyber Pukhtoonkhwah Barrister Masood Kousar was the chief guest while Acting President IIUI, Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman presided over the event. Rector IIUI, Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik and other scholars presented their papers on Ahmad Fraz.
Barrister Masood Kousar said that acceptance of the work and personality of Ahmad Fraz in literary world indicates triumph of his though and ideas. He said there are doubts in the society about religious soundness of Ahmad Fraz. In reality Ahmad Fraz belonged to a religious family, he said, adding that Fraz took off his literary journey at a good time. He said Fraz had inherited a deep sense of Arabic and Persian languages from his ancestors. Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik said that Fraz’s poetry has a shade of Iqbal’s thoughts. He said Fraz had made out social injustice and violations of human rights through his poetry in a very beautiful way. He said Fraz is counted among renowned poets of this century. He said Fraz is from the rare brained of poets who never compromised on human dignity.
He said he is writing a book on work and personality of Ahmad Fraz. He said Fraz has taken a lesson from Karbla. He said Fraz is not held hostage to religious rituals; rather he gains courage from sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain and stand up against oppression. Ahmad Fraz Trust’s Chairman Shibli Fraz said that the trust is promoting thoughts and poetry of Ahmad Fraz. He said Fraz was a poet of the masses. He said no body can inherit creations. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid Ur Rehman said the best about Fraz was that he spoke the truth, however ugly it might be. He said a poet can conquer hearts. He said poets are carriers of truth and whenever dictators tried to muffle their white they resisted. In the end the IIUI presented honorary shields to the speakers.
The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), Acting President Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman said that people of Islamabad feel the pains of Baluchistan and it is an undeniable fact that the province could not get the attention it deserves over the years. He expressed these views talking to a group of 25 talented students of Baluchistan on Wednesday.
IIUI will host these students in Islamabad for ten days. The purpose of this activity is to acquaint these Baloch students with educational institutions and scholars of Islamabad. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman told the Baloch students that they should not be disappointed because of the outskirts of big cities and rural areas of the country suffer from the same lack of basic facilities that the Baluchistan does. He said that Baloch students should not think that they are strangers in Islamabad. He said a delegation of the Islamic University will soon visit Quetta so that the sense of deprivation is reduced in Baluchistan.
He said the doors of Islamic University are always open for Baloch students. He said that moral bankruptcy is the root cause of the problems we face today. He further said that it is the responsibility of the educational institutions to guide students towards positive direction. He added that we should observe the moral values to achieve success in the life and life thereafter. He said today there is more need then the past to aware ourselves about the problems of our society and country.
Department of Urdu of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with Ahmad Faraz Trust is organizing seminar on Renowned Poet Ahmad Fraz here on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 10:30 am at its Faisal Mosque Campus. Barrister Masood Kousar, Governor Khyber Pukhtoonkhwah and Shibli Faraz, Chairman Ahmad Faraz Trust shall be the chief guests on the occasion while Dr. Peerzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Karachi shall preside over the ceremony. Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, Acting President IIUI shall be the guest of honour. Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik, Rector IIUI, Dr. Nazir Tabassum, Dr. Shaheen Mufti and Dr. Sadia Tahir, Student Advisor (Female) IIUI shall present their papers.
NO COMPROMISE ON PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCY, DR. SAJID UR REHMAN
Professional competency is considered unavoidable attribute of a serviceman. This was said by Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, Acting President of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) at his visit of the Directorate of Personal of the IIUI. Tabriz Aslam. Director Personal and Deputy Director Personal Hafiz Ijaz Abbasi including staff members of the directorate were also present on the occasion.
Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman said that the development of any organization is directly proportionate to the devotion and enthusiasm of the staff towards work. He said that in real everyone working at IIUI are equal, but those are great who works punctually and honestly. He further said that human capital is a backbone for any organization which demands them to work rationally.
Hafiz Habib ur Rahman, Assistant Professor, Shari’ah Academy of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has completed his Ph.D studies in ‘Usul-al-Fiqh’ from University of the Punjab, Lahore titled ‘Authority of Law: A Comparison between Usul Fiqh and Western Jurisprudence”. The authority is the centrepiece of law and legal system and cannot be properly understood without adequate awareness of the structure of Authority that underlies it. It is a study of origins of Islamic law and contemporary legal thought in connection with Authority.

SPORTS EVENTS ENHANCE MENTAL CAPABILITIES OF THE STUDENTS. DR. MUMTAZ
A Group of Female students who win various sports competitions met with Rector, International Islamic University, Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik at his office . Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, President IIU and Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, vice president IIU were also present on the occasion.
Professor Fateh Malik congratulated the students upon winning various competitions and said that IIU always encouraged the students to participate in extracurricular activities and it is also worth mentioning that females in general have achieved success in every walk of life as compared to male during the few years in our society. He said that around 21, 000 students are studying in IIU and out of this 9, 000 are female students. He further added that IIU has decided to construct gymnasium for the female students to provide equal opportunity like the male students to participate in the extracurricular activities.
Professor Malik further said that International Islamic University Islamabad has planned to acquire services of professional coaches for various sports events and will arrange extra classes for the students who participated in the sports competition to enable them to complete their curriculum.
Dr. Mumtaz said that healthy minds develop health body which is necessary to enhance mental capabilities. He appreciated and congratulated the female students upon their successes.
Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman said that extra curricular activities encourage the students and considered that sports is an essential part of our lives. He added that sports participation motivate the students to achieve their curriculum targets.
IIUI to hold lecture on “Contemporary Challenges: An Analysis and Proposed Solutions”
The Islamic Research Institute (IRI) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) is organizing a lecture on “Contemporary Challenges: An analysis and Proposed Solutions” on Friday, January 06, 2012 at 10:00 am at Allama Iqbal Auditorium, Faisal Mosque Campus of the University. Dr. Salman Nadvi an eminent scholar and intellectual of Islamic Studies and thoughts shall deliver the lecture. He is also visiting different research institutes and universities in Pakistan.
Dr. Zaitoon Begum Joins as Acting Director (Female Campus), IIUI
Dr. Zaitoon Begum has taken over the charge as Acting Director, Female Campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). She will continue to work as Dean, Faculty of Arabic of the IIUI.
While discussing her revelation for the Female Campus, Dr. Zaitoon said that her focus will be to ensure Islamic values within the campus and to enhance the research work as well as academia. She further said that inter-university interaction is essential to enhance the opportunities for students and faculty members to exchange their knowledge and views.
IIUI Holds Seminar on “Thoughts & Art of Mirza Ghalib”
The International Islamic university, Islamabad (IIUI) has held a seminar on “Mirza Asad Ullah Khan Ghalib”. Rector Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik, presided over the ceremony in which Dr. Khalid Masood was the chief guest. Department of Urdu of the university organized the event.
Rector Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik said that peoples think that Ghalib was a poet of inaction but in reality his inaction leads towards action. He said Ghalib was a poet of all ages. He said Allama Iqbal took Ghalib’s vision forward and a separate country for Muslims of Sub-Continent came into being. He said Iqbal was a river of Ghalib’s ocean and Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Ahmad Nadim Qasmi are waves on this river. He said a new river like Iqbal is in the need of the hour.
Dr. Khalid Masood said modernity is linked to the humanity and it should be taken as a unit with no differentiation between religions. He said “Iqulab” was very hard and one can understand it in the light of experiences of Ghalib. He said Ghalib gave rebirth to “Tasawaf”.
Prof. Aziz Ibn ul Hassan said that Ghalib had removed ancient wrong of Urdu Prose and made it a language that is comprehensible to all. He said that Ghalib made language easy for the common people which is what has made him different.
Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir said that Ghalib’s writing is influenced by experiences of real life. He said Ghalib has made his poetry appealing to all and sundry. He said Ghalib has not confined his poetry to Wahdat ul Wajood.
Prof. Qaiserah M. Alvi, Director Women Campus said that years have passed but people has fail to understand Gahlib. She said that even we critics are bound to note that salient’s of Ghalib’s poetry are better than other. Dr. Sadia Tahir presented her paper titled “ Wazir Agha Ki Tehseen-e-Ghalib”.
