IIUI IN HEC RANKING: A GLIMPSE OF FACTS
The news item appeared in the Dawn Newspaper on May 26, 2015) seems to be targeting IIUI without having enough substance and relevance to the context of the central idea of the news story. This news item is about the recent university ranking issued by the HEC, wherein QAU has been ranked top in the list of top 10 universities of Pakistan. The author of the story claims that IIUI was ranked 9th in the last year (2013) HEC’s ranking in the ‘general’ category, and this year has lost its status and have highlighted the reasons for successes of QAU for the readers; This is indeed defamatory due to following reasons:

  • HEC has changed its ranking mechanism in 2014, where it has given an overall ranking of the universities basing the scores of various variables, besides issuing ranking in different discipline categories .This is unlike what HEC did last year. In 2013, HEC has three categories in ‘General’ category – Large, Medium and Small. IIUI ranked 9th in the ‘General – Large’ category , which HEC did not issue in 2014. This clearly indicates that the journalist did not bother to look into the details as he was destined to malign IIUI only.
  • In the overall general ranking issued by HEC this year, IIUI stands at 13th position securing 55.36 .
  • Please visit the following HEC website to know the current status of IIUI in General Universities (Large), having over 7000 student body, while IIUI has around 25000 students from across the continents:
    http://www.hec.gov.pk/.
Interestingly, IIUI status has improved there from 9th to 5th. Thus, it clearly indicates that the author of the story had a mala fide intention to defame the University and its official, so he did without caring for the facts, which speak contrary to what he posed in the story.

Another important aspect of IIUI that has not been well understood by him is that IIUI has many institutes and faculties wherein Arabic is the primary language, like Islamic Research Institute, Dawa’h Academy, ShariahAcademy and Faculty, Faculty of Ussulludin etc. These are some of the major rather mother faculties of IIUI. That was the reason of making Arabic and English as its official languages. This university has unique features for instances having a separate campus for female on equal footing with male campus and international students from more than forty countries.
