IIUI SIGNS MOU WITH ALEXANDRIA UNIVERSITY, EGYPT
International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and Alexandria University, Egypt have signed MoU to cooperate in the fields of mutual interest. President IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and Dean of Medical Research Institute, Alexandria University, Egypt Prof. Gamal El-Sawaf signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions in the MoU signing ceremony held in Islamabad.

According to the MoU both the universities would share expertise in the fields of science and academic research. Both the universities will also conduct joint research projects, exchange of research materials, organize conferences, seminars and workshops. It was also agreed that both sides would take steps for exchange of teachers and students as well as formulation of training strategies program relating to common courses of studies.

After the signing ceremony, both Dr. Al-Draiweesh and Prof. Gamal El-Sawaf during their meeting hoped that this MoU will be proved as milestone for cooperation among both institutions and it would also pave the way for progress in the educational field.

IIUI ORGANIZES LECTURE ON “ISLAM AND BUDDHISM: CO-EXISTENCE AND DIALOGUE
Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue in collaboration with Department of Comparative Religions International Islamic University Islamabad arranged a lecture on Islam and Buddhism in central library of the University. Dr. Imtiyaz Yusuf, Assistant Professor in the Center for Buddhist-Muslim Understanding, College of Religious Studies, Mahidol University, Salaya, Phutthamonthon, Nakhron Pathom, Thailand, was guest speaker, while Director IRD Dr. Talib Hussain Sial, Dr. Derakhshan, Head of Department of Comparative Religions including large number of students also attended the lecture.

Dr. Imtiaz delivered detail lecture on “Islam and Buddhism: Co-existence and Dialogue”. He also highlighted the points of similarities between the two religions and possibilities to initiate and promote dialogue on equal basis. He said the basic principles in both religions are to serve and promote humanity and Prophets of both the religions are model of liberty. Prophet Muhammad’s (S.A.W.W) religion liberated man from Shirk and Zulm while Buddha also separated from Hindu Caste system. He further stressed on the need for dialogue among the followers of two religions.

Earlier Dr. Talib Hussain, gave the opening remarks and welcomed the guest speaker, faculty members and students. While Dr. Derakhshan, Head of Department of Comparative Religions, delivered note of thanks and gave concluding remarks. At the end the guest speaker also answered the questions asked by students.

IIUI SIGNS MOU WITH 3 TURKISH UNIVERSITIES
Under the banner of Mevlana Exchange Programme Protocol (MEPP), the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has singed MoUs with 3 Turkish Universities at Islamabad. The First MoU was signed between President IIUI Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh and Rector of Dicle University, Turkey, Prof. Dr. A. Jole Saraa, Second MoU was signed between President IIUI Dr. Ahmad Yousif and Rector of Erzincan University, Turkey Prof. Dr. Ilyas CAPOGLU and third MoU was signed between President IIUI Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh and Rector of Bozok University, Turkey respectively.

According to the MoUs done with three above said respective universities of Turkey, IIUI and these universities will cooperate with each other in students and academic exchange programs.

IIUI will share academics expertise with above mentioned universities of Turkey including joint venture of research projects. President IIUI has welcomed the aforesaid signed MoUs and hoped this cooperation between IIUI and Turkish universities will open new horizons of educational development.

AMBASSADOR OF PALESTINE CALL ON PRESIDENT IIUI
His Excellency Ambassador of Palestine to Pakistan Walid Abu Ali and first secretary of Palestine Embassy Hassni Abughosh called on President International Islamic University Islamabad. Both the worthy personalities shared their views on mutual understanding in the field of Science and Education. They also agreed upon to start joint ventures to up-raise the standard of education, research and level technological advancement. Dr. Al Draiweesh welcomed Walid Abu Ali and said that the doors are always open for the students of Palestine and research scholars to conduct their research and take benefits from the IIUI.

 

 

 

 

 

PRESIDENT IIUI URGES UMMAH TO GET UNITED FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF MUSLIMS’ INSTITUTIONS
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) realizes its responsibility and high hopes reposed in it by Muslim Ummah that is why university making preparation for an expansion plans in terms of education as well as in physical development. President, IIUI Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh expressed these views while addressing a two day Vice Chancellor’s Forum on “ Universities in the Islamic World: Challenges of Internationalization“ organized by COMSATS in collaboration with Higher Education Commission, which was attended by various VCs, Rectors, and Presidents of universities of Islamic world.

While referring to the challenges of internationalization he said IIUI is striving for nurturing and producing harmonious and balanced personalities duly infused with Islamic Idealism and fully aware of most current developments in human knowledge.

President IIUI said that university has another distinguishing feature that it provides equal opportunities to female students in a separate campus. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that “We are making determined efforts to raise quality and standards of education in the university, due to our efforts IIUI is being considered as an institution of quality education not only in Pakistan but internationally, especially in the Muslim world. He further said that IIUI is heading towards progress as a premier seat of learning globally with special emphasis on Islamic disciplines.

President IIUI added that university encourages promotion of education, training & research in different areas of learning and it will keep giving special place to cooperation and joint ventures with various international educational organizations. “We have a vision to expand and excel academically and professionally the university has also strengthened its national and international linkages by signing MoUs with the leading national and international institutions of established repute” he said.

He urged Muslim countries to get united for development and reconstruction of institutions of the Muslims. He further stressed upon Muslim countries to make efforts for producing skilled personnel for effective implementation of Islamic norms and values.

THAI DIPLOMATS CALL ON DR. MUMTAZ AHMED
Vice President (Academics), International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) DR. Mumtaz Ahmed said Pakistan is peace loving country, we are very keen to observe peaceful relations with its neighbouring countries. Strategically Pakistan has very much importance in the region therefore we love to have peaceful cooperation in the region as well as on international level. He was speaking to delegation of Thai diplomats, who paid visit to him.

Dr. Mumtaz briefed them about the nature, trends of Pakistani Politics and the prevailing political system. He also highlighted the multiple aspects of foreign policy and relations with other countries. He also gave valuable acquaintance on the present, past and future of South Asian countries and circumstances.

“If Thai Government sponsors faculty, scholars and professor who are expert on South Asian studies, IIUI will accommodate them in University and also provide complete assistance that will be good omen to further strength relation in friendly track”, he said. He hoped frequent exchange of teachers, students’ delegations to bring both the countries closer to each other.

IIUI REMEMBERS SALEEM AHMED
Renowned literary figure and poet Saleem Ahmed was remembered at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) in a seminar titled “ Biyad e Saleem” arranged by a literary organization “Baithak” of Urdu department (female) of university and Iqbal Institute for Research and Dialogue of the university here on Wednesday.

Seminar was presided over by Vice President (Academics) Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Vice President (AF&P) Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman and famous literary figures from all across the country including Dr. Tehseen Firaqi, Sajjad Meer, Sohail Umer, Azeez Ibn ul Hassan, Mansoor Khalid, Prof. Dr. Najeeb Jamal and Shah Nawaz Farooqui also joined the seminar.

Speakers of the seminar termed Saleem Ahmed as “seeker of complete human” while referring to his famous works and thoughts. His famous books including Biyaz, Ikaai and Chragh e Neem Shab were discussed in detail. They also threw light on his life as a critic and a love preacher as well.

“Anybody who observes life of Saleem Ahmed would find factor of love quite visible in his life, he was sincere to his relations” said Shah Nawaz Farooqi, son in law of Saleem Ahmed. “As a critic works of Saleem Ahmed are unique, after decades his works are still needed to be explored appropriately yet” he added. Eminent columnist Sajjad Meer termed his passed days with Saleem Ahmed as valuable asset of his life while saying “he was a man of distinctive thoughts who fought for literature in the forward ranks”. Dr Aziz ul Hassan said he was inspired of the works of Saleem who discussed complex problems of life in easy manner. Tehsin Firaqi paid rich tribute to Saleem Ahmed and said he possessed a skill of absorbing extra ordinary things of life.

Dr Mumtaz Ahmed who was also organizer of the seminar shared his memories spent with Saleem Ahmed and presented a special essay written by Shams ur Rehman Farooqi which discussed style and thoughts of the writer specially in the field of poetry.

At the end, shields were presented by Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed and Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman among the speakers of the seminar.

International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and International Islamic University, Chittagong (IIUC), Bangladesh have signed an MoU to cooperate in the fields of mutual interest. President IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and Vice Chancellor, IIUC Dr. Azhar ul Islam signed the MoU on the behalf of their respective institutions in the MoU signing ceremony held in Islamabad.

MS. AYSHA UROOJ COMPLETES HER PHD IN EDUCATION
Ms. Aysha Urooj student of Ph. D Education Programme of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has completed her Ph. D degree in “Education”. Topic of her thesis was “Comparative Study of Pedagogical and Assessment Practice of Allama Iqbal Open University and Virtual University of Pakistan”. Ms. Aysha Urooj has completed her thesis under the supervision of Dr. Shazia Noreen, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, IIUI while Prof. Caorlyn M. Shields, Dean College of Education, Wayne State University, Detroit, MI and Prof. Marilyn Leask, Dean, Faculty of Education, Sport & Tourism, Bedfordshire University, UK were the foreign evaluators of her thesis.

 

 

MUSLIMS NEEDS TO FORGE UNITY AMONG RANKS; DR. ABDUL AZIZ OTHMAN
Dr. Abdul Aziz Othman Altwaijri, Director General, Islamic Educational Scientific & Cultural Organization (ISESCO) has said that Muslims are being tarnished and suppressed across the world because of their sectarian differences and apathy about Islam, they would have to forge unity among their ranks to foil the inimical aims of the enemies of Islam. He was addressing to the academic and administrative staff of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) on the occasion of his visit to university. Dr. Hazza Abdulla Al Ghamdi, Cultural Attache, the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Pakistan also accompanied him. Rector IIUI, Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIUI, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Vice Presidents Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman & Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad including DGs, Deans and Directors of IIUI were also present on the occasion.

“Muslims have neglected advancement of knowledge, education, technology and the unfortunate is that music, sports, and lavish life has become our priorities, we would have to disseminate Islam’s sublime message of harmony and peace to cope with the contemporary challenges” he said. He termed terrorism and sectarianism as a mockery against Muslims and urged Ummah to put aside differences while saying ” Islam is a complete code of life, we are announced best Ummah, Muslims would have to aware the world about its original message, let them know Islam abhors sectarianism and violence while its message is peace and harmony”.

He further put strong emphasis on key role of the universities, to eliminate this backwardness, depression and hovering clouds of pessimism on Ummah. Altwaijri added Muslims are required to move forward, get united, in order to establish high position in the line of respected nations.

While talking about IIUI he said its progress is commendable and providing Ummah with highly skilled professionals familiar with teachings of Islam. He added that Muslim ummah’s unity is need of hour and institutions like IIUI can play vital role for this purpose. He assured of every possible support to IIUI in the fields of science and research.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Masoom Yasinzai briefed the worthy guest about objectives and future vision of IIUI. He said high hopes of Ummah are vested in IIUI and we need cooperation from not only ISESCO but whole Muslim Ummah.

Earlier, Dr. Al-Draiweesh received the worthy guest and introduced him with the officials of academic and administration staff. He said IIU is unique centre of quality education which provides opportunity to students to share cultural values and broaden their exposure. He hoped that ISESCO will cooperate with IIUI in the matter of providing scholarships to its students.

Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad also spoke on the occasion and briefed Altwaijri about research institutes and academies of the university. He termed IIU as a vital source and omen of unity among Muslim countries.

Worthy guest also visited the Central Library, Female Campus and Faisal Masjid Campus of the university where luncheon was arranged in the honor of Altwaijri which was also attended by Shaikh Saad Al-Dousari, Director General Maktab Tu Da’wa, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Al-Draiweesh presented IIU Crest to Dr. Abdul Aziz Othman Altwaijri on the occasion.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ORGANIZES SEMINAR ON “HELPING TEACHERS LEARN: THEORY PRACTICE AND RESEARCH”
Department of Education, Faculty of Social Sciences, International Islamic University Islamabad organized a seminar on “Helping Teachers Learn: Research Theory and Practice”. A renowned educationist and teacher trainer Director Teacher Development Centre Karachi Prof. Abbas Hussain was guest speaker. He delivered detailed lecture on the topic. He said that it is necessary to focus on emerging trends in this digital age. “Our generation is digital native while we are digital immigrants”. He urged to adopt the innovative trends in teacher training and delivering lecture in the classrooms. He focused on mentoring of novice teachers in their initial stage of career.

On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, highly appreciated the faculty members of the Department of Education for managing such types of academic activities. He informed that Department of Education is going to organize seminar which will be addressed by Professor Dr. Paul Kawachi from Japan and a lecture of Professor Dr. Marilyn Leask of Bedfordshire University, UK in next month.

He further said that the seminar would surely fruitful for teachers and researchers and such series of seminars should be continued for the academic development of faculty members and researchers of IIUI.

Earlier in his opening remarks, Dr Asad Rizvi welcomed all the participants and briefed them about the seminar while Dr. Samina Malik, Chairperson, Department of Education (Female Campus) presented the souvenir to the guest speaker. All faculty members and students of education department attended the seminar.

IIUI TO HOLD SEMINAR ON WORKS OF SALEEM AHMED TITLED “BIYAD-E-SALEEM”
On the occasion of 30th anniversary of renowned poet and scholar Saleem Ahmed, the Iqbal International Institute for research & dialogue (IRD) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with “Bethak” a literary organization of Urdu Department (Female) of the university are organizing a seminar on “ Biyad-e-Saleem”, Today September 25, 2013 at 11:30 am, Fatima Tu Zohra Block, Female Campus, IIUI. Renowned poets, authors and critics will express their views on the works and personality of Saleem Ahmed. Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and President IIUI, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh shall be the guests of honour while Dr. Rafi Uddin Hashmi, Dr.Tehseen Firaqi, Saleem Mansoor Khalid, Sajjad Meer, Sohail Umer, Shahnawaz Farooqui, VP (Academics) IIUI, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Dr. Najeeb Jamal and Dr. Azeez Ibn Al-Hassan will also spoke on the occasion.

KNOWLEDGE IS LIGHT, GUARANTOR OF PEACE IN THE SOCIETY; DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh has said that knowledge is a great blessing of Allah to human being, that leads towards light, guidance and bring prosperity in the society. It is utmost responsibility of Muslim Ummah to explore and do very best endeavor to seek new technology, software and methods to increase the knowledge. He was addressing to concluding ceremony of Two day workshop on “Managing Qualitative Research with Nvivo” organized by Department of Education of the university. On the occasion dean faculty of Social Sciences, IIUI Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Chairperson Department of Education (Female), IIUI Dr. Sameena Malik and guest resource person Dr. Shafiq ur Rehman from Punjab University, Lahore including Ph. D and MS Scholars were present.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh urged research scholars to get themselves involve in seeking new avenues of research including new software and methodologies. He also directed the scholars that they are supposed to be honest with their research work. President hoped that this workshop would have achieved the purposes and be helpful for researchers to move forward in their research work. He went on that students should be well proficient in updated technology. He also paid gratitude to Dr. Shafiq ur Rehman sparing his precious time for the scholars of IIUI.

Addressing the participants Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani said that workshop would prove fruitful to overcome the deficiencies in using new software for research purpose. He also purposed lectures of ambassadors of foreign embassies in Islamabad on the topic of international relation.

In the workshop Dr. Shafique briefed the students about Nvivo, endnote software which are helpful for colleting, analyzing and processing the data from writing their thesis. He also threw light on different aspects, steps and ethics of research in different sessions. Dr. Shafique made students practically aware about the usage and benefits.

Earlier Dr. Sameena Malik in her welcome note, thanked president and Dr. Shafique and briefed about workshop. She also purposed this kind of research oriented workshops to enhance standard of research in bachelor level. At the end Dr. Al-Draiweesh distributed certificates among the participants and presented university crest to Dr. Muhammad Shafique ur Rehman.

SAUDI OFFICIALS & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR HEC TO VISIT IIUI TODAY
International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has arranged visit of worthy guests including Dr. Abdul Aziz Othman Altwaijri, Director General, Islamic Educational Scientific & Cultural Organization, Dr. Hazza Abdulla Al Ghamdi, Cultural Attache, the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Pakistan, Shaikh Saad Al-Dousari, Director General Maktab Tu Da’wa, Saudi Arabia and Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Executive Director, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad in university today (Tuesday), September 24, 2013 at 10:30 am. The delegation will also call on Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI. The delegation will visit central library and various faculties of the university and will also be briefed on the occasion.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETATION HOLDS FACULTY ORIENTATION SESSION
Department of Translation and Interpretation (T&I) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) organized the Faculty Orientation Session at faculty block 1 of male campus. The session was attended by 40 permanent & visiting teachers who are teaching languages, TI & GC courses during the current semesters.

Dr. Inam ul Haq Ghazi, Incharge Department of T&I, gave comprehensive orientation presentation which included the detailed introduction of the field of translation studies, recent academic achievements of the department at national and international levels, planned activities for the current semester and future plans such as MS & PhD programs, conferences, workshops and seminars in Translation Studies.

On the occasion, Dr. Habib ur Rehman, Incharge Advanced Studies Faculty of Arabic, highlighted the core values needed in the teaching profession, especially in the areas of language & translation teaching. The Faculty appreciated the achievements and plans of the department and also exchanged views, experiences and ideas for its betterment.

SOCRATES COMMITTEE TO AWARD IIUI, RECTOR
Socrates Committee of Europe Business Assembly Oxford UK has recommended International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) to be included to the official international registry of leading universities by Europe Business Assembly version with presenting the institution the award “Best University” and the title “Manager of the Year” to the Rector. Worthy Rector Prof Dr. Masoom Yaseen Zai who will receive both the titles in the “ Socrates Award Ceremony” that will be held in December 2013 in the frame work of Oxford Summit of Leaders; Science and Education Oxford UK.

The Committee analyzed the various aspects of university including effective management programs implementation, Original intellectual and technological innovations application, the policy of the University in the field of quality educational services rendering, level of social focus, presence of unique achievements, work transparency. The committee also analyzed the external perception of the University repute at the regional and national and international levels, press, business and public image. Keeping in view all these aspects of IIUI, the committee recommended IIUI and its Rector for the said awards.

 

PRESIDENT IIUI LISTENS TO COMPLAINTS OF STUDENTS
President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh on Thursday listened to the problems and complaints of the students and directed the concerned departments to solve problems of the students on priority basis.

President, while speaking to students said he feels immense pleasure to talk to students and termed them as a valuable asset of IIUI and Muslim Ummah. “IIUI will keep striving for providing quality education and a milieu of peace and harmony to its students”. He said.

Student while submitting their applications regarding their problems thanked president for giving them precious time from his busy schedule.

 

 

 

IIUI OPENS IRD LOUNGE AT FEMALE CAMPUS
Deputy Public Affairs Officer, US Embassy, Angela Aggeler said that struggle is the key to success, Pakistani women have shown their potential to lead the nation towards a way of development and prosperity of the country and their active participation in interfaith harmony and dialogue will surely be a milestone for global peace and stability. She was addressing to the inaugural ceremony of Iqbal International Institute for Research & Dialogue Lounge at female campus of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).

President, IIUI Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Vice President (AF&P), IIUI Prof. Dr. Sahibada Sajid ur Rehman, Vice President (Academics) IIUI Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad and Director Female Campus, Dr. Zaitoon Begum were also present on the occasion.

Angela said that US government supports culture of dialogue for harmony and peace among societies and we will keep striving for the promotion of this cause. Talking about the IIUI she said it is a valuable place for the students from various countries to share their experiences and understanding each other’s cultures and IIUI is unique platform to provide opportunities for global harmony. She lauded the active participation of female students of IIUI in various fields of study and appreciated the presentation given to her regarding role of female campus in IIUI.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh, speaking on the occasion said dialogue is guarantor for peace, stability and harmony and same is the objective of IIUI. He said we urge our faculty staff to promote the culture of interfaith dialogue and harmony among the students. President IIUI called upon the scholars of IRD and Muslim Ummah to work for the promotion of peace and inter faith harmony. “IIUI discourages attitudes of violence and extremism, our ultimate goal is to create a milieu of brotherhood and teach our students about making efforts for stability, peace and harmony” he said.

Earlier, Dr. Mumtaz thanked the Deputy Public Affairs Officer, US Embassy and President IIUI for attending the inaugural ceremony and hoped that opening of the IRD lounge at female campus of university will further strengthen the capacity of the institute. At the end, a souvenir was presented to Angela Aggeler by Dr. Al-Draiweesh on the behalf of IIUI.

IIUI TO HOLD CONCLUDING CEREMONY OF 4 DAY WORKSHOP ON “NEW TRENDS OF STUDY OF ISLAMIC FIQH” TODAY
Shariah Academy of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) to hold concluding ceremony of 4 day workshop on “New Trends of Study of Islamic Fiqh” today (Thursday), September 19, 2013 at 02:00 pm, at Allama Iqbal Auditorium of the university. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh shall be the chief guest. The purpose of the workshop is to introduce new trends in Islamic Fiqh and to project the comprehension and versatility of Islamic Shariah.

IIUI TO START DISTANCE LEARNING EDUCATION PROJECT SOON
International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) going to start distance learning education system along with regular educational degree programmes soon. In order to make this project practical, a high officials meeting of Deans, Directors of Academics and Administrative Departments was conducted which was chaired by Vice President IIUI, Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman.

Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman said that the new project of distance learning education should be very compact and comprehensive and free from all kinds of deficiencies and lacks as the IIUI recognized with its education standards.

Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, IIUI, Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani briefed the meeting about the project of distance learning education in detail. He said that initially university will offer various degree programmes of Urdu, Education and History respectively, later on it would be followed by other departments. He also informed that university will generate heavy revenue through this project, while the existing Academic & Administrative staff will be accommodated for the project. The other members also put their opinions, recommendations and suggestions to make this project effective and practical soon.

IIUI FLAGED AT RUPAL PEAK
Mr. Abdul Malik hosted the flag of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) at 18510 feet high Rupal Peak on 28th August 2013, which is a pride IIUI and all staff members & students of the university. It is a great achievement for IIU that its staff members was the part of such expedition of value. Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Rector IIUI, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI and Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, Vice President IIUI congratulated Mr. Abdul Malik on this achievement.

Abdul Malik (Assistant at Academic Wing of IIU) is an active member of Alpine Club of Pakistan, Islamabad Alpine Association, Adventure Academy and Islamian’s Alpine Club of IIUI. He is also a good trekker, mountaineer, rock climber and certified technical mountaineering instructor. He has developed his skills in Mountain Rescue and Disaster Management.

Rupal Peak is located in the far Western aspect of the Himalaya. Before this it was first climbed in 1964, 1986, 1995 and lastly 1997 respectively.

ORIENTATION OF VISITING FACULTY OF FMS FOR FALL 2013 SEMESTER
Faculty of Management Sciences arranged orientation and well come session for new visiting teachers of the semester fall 2013. FMS have 2000 students and around 60 visiting teachers.

Dean Faculty of Management Sciences Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, Director Academic Mrs. Shagufta Haroon, Chairperson FMS Ms Tasneem Fatima and large number of visiting and regular faculty members were present on the occasion.

In her welcoming address Ms Tasneem Fatima Chairperson FMS briefed the teachers regarding academic process and put stress on the need that the teachers may develop frequent understandings with students and settle their academic matters on priority basis. She emphasized on teachers to observe ethic and Islamic ideology.

Dean Faculty of Management Sciences Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan said that visiting faculty of FMS can play positive roll along with regular faculty to made IIUI a unique institution which grabs the attention of the female students.

Mrs. Shagufta Haroon Director Academic briefed the teachers regarding all academic activities and appreciating the role of visiting faculty. She stressed on the teachers to follow the university academic calendar so that no delay of any academic activity during semester.

At the end, certificates were distributed to 12 visiting teachers who performed outstanding performance during spring 2013 semester.

FOUR DAY WORKSHOP ON “NEW TRENDS OF STUDY OF ISLAMIC FIQH” STARTS AT IIUI
President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh said that Ijtiha (Ijtihad) is the need of the hour and urged Ulema-e-Deen to take the support of Ijtiha to solve out contemporary problems in the light of Quran & Hadiths. It is core responsibility of Ulema-e-Deen that they should address the emerging issues according to new aspects of Islamic jurisprudence along with Ijtiha, because Islam covers all legal aspects of human life since birth to death. He was addressing to the inaugural ceremony of the four day workshop titled “New Trends of Study of Islamic Fiqh” organized by the Shariah Academy of the university as a chief guest.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that Ulema should follow the foot prints of their predecessors to seek the solution of contemporary problems by promoting the foresight in the field of research and academia. President IIU said that we should struggle for the establishment of the society based on unity, brotherhood and free from prejudice and sectarianism. “Islam demands moderate and contended environment in society while discover exaggeration and anarchism” President IIUI said. He said that Islam is a complete code of life that saves right to know and access the truth. He also appreciated the services of Shariah Academy for interpretation and promotion of existing civil and criminal laws in the light of Quran & Sunnah.

Earlier in his opening remarks Director General Shariah Academy, Dr. Mohammad Tahir Mansoori thanked the President IIUI and participants of the workshop. He also threw the light of worthwhile services of Shariah Academy in exploration of medical and social problems of the modern society in the light of Islamic Shariah.

First day of the workshop Moulana Zahid, Dr. Abdul Hay Abro and Dr. Asmat Ullah also delivered lectures on different topics related to subject of the workshop. The purpose of the workshop is to introduce new trends in Islamic Fiqh and to project the comprehension and versatility of Islamic Shariah.

TWO STAFF MEMBERS LOST THEIR LIVES IN ROAD ACCIDENT
Two employees of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Hassan Muhammad, Junior Cataloger and Muhammad Atiq Siddiqui, Bookshelver in Central Library of the university, lost their lives in road accident last Friday when they were going home from university. Hassan Muhammad belongs to District Bagh, Azad Kashmir while Muhammad Atiq Siddiqui from Dera Ismail Khan. The funeral prayers of deceased were offered at their natives areas in which large number of people including relatives, prominent figures and colleagues of Islamic university participated. Rector IIU Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIUI Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Vice President (AF&P) Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman expressed their sorrow and grief on this sad demise. They also prayed for the salvation of their souls.

UNIVERSITIES GUARANTORS OF PEACE IN SOCIETY; DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
The President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh presented his research paper on “ The Cooperation and Teachers Training between Arab-China Universities” in the forum “The 2nd China- Arab States University Presidents Forum” organized at Nungheshia, China during his recent visit.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh briefed the participants about the performance, achievements and cooperation of IIUI with other universities, in detail. He said that the role of universities for establishing peace in society is very vital and has great importance. He went on that universities can bridge the gap among the civilizations and are also guarantor of peace and prosperity along with transformation of culture and tradition, generation to generation.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that IIUI inculcates religious harmony among students belonging to different parts of the world and discourages negative, extremist and pessimist inclinations. He said that IIU is ready for any kind of cooperation with Chinese universities that will lead towards good and strong Pak-China Relations.

 

 

 

IIUI TO HOLD WORKSHOP ON “CLINICAL SUPERVISION” TODAY
Department of Psychology of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) to hold workshop on “ Clinical Supervision” today (Thursday), September 12, 2013 at Faisal Masjid Campus of the university. The workshop has been designed to familiarize professionals about clinical internship nested in the department and intended to provide information about placement, trainee feedback, supervisor feedback and logbook for clinical internship. The Workshop will be chaired by Dr. Muhammad Tahir Khalili, Chairman Dept. of Psychology and assisted by Dr. Uzma Masroor and Dr. Kehkashan Arouj.

IIUI Signs MoU with Masjid Nabvi & Masjid ul Haraam
During the recent visit of President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh to Saudi Arabia a memorandum of understanding was signed between IIUI and Masjid-e-Nabvi and Masjid ul Haraam respectively. On behalf of administration of Haramain, President Management Prof. Dr. Abdul Rehman Al-Sudais, while from IIUI side Dr. Ahmad Yousfi Al-Draiweesh signed on MoU. The worthy Pro Chancellor IIUI Dr. Sulaiman Bin Abdullah Abalkhail was also present on the occasion.

According to the memorandum the administration of Masjid Nabvi and Masjid ul Haraam will facilitate and manage visits of teachers and students of IIUI to Saudi Arabia. Earlier Dr. Al-Draiweesh also briefed Prof. Dr. Abdul Rehman Al-Sudais about the performance, progress, achievements and future plans of the university in detail

 

 

 

 

ICT STUDENT CLINCHES, FIRST POSITION FROM KPK BOARD OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION
A brilliant student of Iqra college of Technology (ICT) a constituent unit of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan clinched first position in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Board of Technical Education in the discipline of Diploma of Associate Engineering (Mechanical) by securing 2649 marks.

During prize distribution ceremony organized in Peshawar, senior minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sikandar Hayat Sherpao awarded a shield and cash prize of rupees 10 thousands to Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan. Principal ICT, Engineer Javed Ahmad Khan Tepu and Deputy Director ICT Naveed Ehtisham were also present on the occasion.

President IIUI Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh and Engineer Javed Ahmad Tepu also congratulated and appreciated Zulfiqar Ahmad on securing distinction.

 

 

 

“MADRASAHS ENGLISH TEACHERS’ TRAINING” WORKSHOP CONCLUDES
A two-week long workshop on “Madrasahs English Teachers’ Training” under the auspices of Department of English of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) with the collaboration of US Embassy concluded. Vice President (AF&P) IIUI Prof Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman was the chief guest of the ceremony. It was also joined by the Renowned international teaching trainer Don Johnson from US and Dean Faculty of Language & Literature Dr. Munawar Iqbal Gondal as resource persons of the workshop, while Advisor Student (male) Dr. Safeer Awan was coordinator of the workshop, Dr. Bashir acting head Department of Arabic, Director HR Muhammad Tabreez Aslam were also present.

The Workshop was attended by around forty Madrasah teachers from Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, Peshawar, Mohmand Agency, Malakand, Peshawar, Islamabad and other areas of the country respectively. Addressing to the participants Dr Sajid ur Rehman put strong emphasis to make themselves fluent in foreign languages specially English being international for the cause to spread the universal message of Islam. He said that as the Quran and Hadith are most authentic source of knowledge, being Muslim a great responsibility lies on us to disseminate the golden tenets of Islam to the nations of the world. In order to do that language is very important, so the Madrasah teachers should endeavor for this cause. Dr. Sajid ur Rehman also appreciated the efforts to organize such a valuable workshop.

Addressing the ceremony Don Johnson said that methodology has vital role in the field of teaching and learning. He also admired the step of organize this workshop, and thanked participants for their hospitality and kindness.

In his welcoming note Dr. Safeer Awan highlighted the value of English language for the Madrassah teachers in the contemporary world. He said that this workshop would help participants in self development and as a source of their success in the future. Dr. Safeer also briefed about aims and objectives of the workshop.

The workshop included communication language teaching, teaching pronunciation, vocabulary, lesson planning, teaching writing skills, teaching grammar and reading skills and interactive sessions to improve English language proficiency and teaching method of the participant teachers. At the end, the participants were also awarded certificates on successful completion.

Viva Voce Examination of MS Student in FBAS
The viva voce examination of Mr. Rashid Rasheed Registration No.474-FBAS/MSCS/F08 is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 10.30 am. Dr. Mujahid Alam, is the external examiner for the said examination.

IIUI signed MoU with UoIS Jordan
President International Islamic University Islamabad met with the President University of Islamic Sciences Jordan Dr. Abdul Nasir Abul Fazal in his recent visit to Saudi Arab. Both the presidents also signed agreement of mutual cooperation in their meeting. According to the memorandum done between both the institutions, both universities will make sure the possibilities of mutual exchange of teachers, organizing of educational courses, and to jointly introduce literary and researched based activities in both the universities including international conferences and workshops.

According to the body of memorandum, both universities will formulate curriculum of Islamic Studies, Arabic Studies including social sciences with mutual consultation to make the degrees of Masters, M Phil and PhDs acceptable equally in both sides. In the meeting Dr. Al Draiweesh briefed Dr. Abdul Nasir about IIUI programs, performances and upcoming plans in detail. Dr. Al Draiweesh also highlighted the efforts of IIUI for the progress and prosperity of Islam and Muslim Ummah.

ARMED FORCES AIMA, KHUTABA VISIT IIUI
The 81st Training of Imams Programme organized by Dawah Academy, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in which 46 Khutaba belong to Armed Forces of Pakistan, Army, Navy, Air Force respectively, are participating has started. During the inaugural session, participants visited IIUI new campus. On the occasion, addressing to the participants, Vice President IIUI Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman said that Ulema playing very vital role for the evolution, prosperity of society and renaissance of Islam.

He further said that Ulema should own the responsibility to weave the fabric of social and moral values of the society. Dr. Sajid ur Rehman further said that our ancestors scarified for the cause of Islam, just because of them, the voice of true religion Islam could be spread across the continents. He stressed on the need to carry their endeavours for strengthening and preaching true tenets of Islam, by following the foot print of our ancestors.

He also asked Ulema to play their role to keep and unveil the so called Islamic scholars who are trying to burglary in Islamic teachings. Dr. Sajid ur Rehman also appreciated the role of Dawah Academy and said all the training courses offered by Dawah Academy are vital mile stones to spread religious harmony among Ulema and society at large. He said that, these courses also provide an opportunity to share their voices and exchange the perception with one another, that is very necessary to eradicate sectarianism. Dr. Sajid ur Rehman said that Dawah Academy is playing key role for the unity and preaching of Islam in true sense without any discrimination.

Zaheer Uddin Behram also highlighted the aims and objectives of the training programme on the occasion. Earlier, the delegation of Aima was received and welcome by Addl. Director (P&PR) D.K. Hairan Khattak. He also briefed them about university in detail.

DR. AHMAD YOUSIF AL-DRAIWEESH VISITS DIFFERENT FACULTIES OF IIUI
President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) DR. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh has said that university should focus on standard of education rather than the number of students. Teachers must fulfill their responsibilities with great punctuality and devotions, they present themselves as a role model for the students. These view, were expressed by president while he was addressing to the members of Faculty of Usul- Uddin.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh put stress on the need that the teachers may develop frequent understandings with students and try to settle their educational matters on priority basis, thinking that students are the precious asset of Ummah and our future associated with them. He emphasized on the requisite of social grooming of the students which is basic thing to achieve the desired results from education.

In his address, he informed about the MoUs with Saudi Universities took place during his recent visit to Saudi Arabia. He said that all faculties will take benefits from the MoUs to pace up the educational and research activities. He also assured them that students and teachers would be exchanged with different Saudi universities for the cause of higher studies and research. Dr. Al-Draiweesh also informed in detail about the scholarships that would be given to students of IIUI by different educational and welfare institutions.

ISF GRANTS ONE LAC DOLLARS TO IIUI
Islamic Solidarity Fund has granted one lac dollar to International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) for enhancement of the capacity of labs and improvement of infrastructure. The granted amount was announced by the executive director, Islamic Solidarity Fund, Ibrahim Bin Abdullah Al Khuzayem, during his meeting with President IIUI Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh in Saudi Arabia.

On the same occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh informed Ibrahim Bin Abdullah about the performance, achievements and future plans of the IIUI in detail. President Dr. Al-Draiweesh also thanked Saudi Government especially King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz for the cooperation with IIUI.

 

 

 

 

 

WORKSHOP ON ‘DESIGNING RESEARCH PROJECTS” CONCLUDES
A three-week long workshop on ‘ Designing Research Projects’ organized for the students of social sciences, by department of History and Pakistan Studies (Female) of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) concluded at Faisal Mosque campus of the university.

Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani was the chief guest of the concluding ceremony while the ceremony was also joined by resource person of the workshop Uzma Rehman, Dr. Tahir Khalili Head department of Psychology and Rafia Riaz, Acting Chairperson of department of History and Pakistan Studies.

Dr. Jummani, while speaking on the occasion said that recent workshop would broaden the exposure of research students. He advised students to actively participate in such workshops that would help them for research projects in future. He thanked, Dr. Uzma Rehman for sparing her three weeks for workshop.

Dr. Uzma Rehman, during her speech in the ceremony said that main purpose of the workshop was to train future researchers of social sciences. “In Pakistan, we need to work more in the field of research, we would have to polish the abilities of our budding researchers” she said. She thanked HEC and IIUI for cooperation in conducting the workshop.

Earlier, Ms. Rafia Riaz who was also coordinating the workshop said in her vote of thanks that department would keep arranging such workshops in future. She thanked IIUI staff and HEC for their support for workshop.

IIUI, NAUSS SIGN MOU IN FIELD OF EDUCATION
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) have signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which both institutes would cooperate with each other in exchange of delegations of students and teachers and field of research.

MoU was signed during President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia. In a ceremony, Dr. Al-Draiweesh and president of Naif Arab University for Security Sciences Dr. Jaman Rasheed Bin Raqoosh signed on the MoU.

On the sidelines of MoU signing ceremony, Dr. Al-Draiweesh told Dr. Jaman that more than thirty-thousand male and female students are getting education in the light of Islamic teachings at IIUI. He also informed Dr. Jaman about future projects and financial requirements of the university.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh lauded the role of Saudi Arabia government for its cooperation with IIUI. On the occasion, Dr. Jaman said Dr. Al-Draiweesh is a ray of hope for the students of Ummah. He hoped that IIUI will continue its positive role for providing quality education to Muslim youth according to teachings of Islam.

SEMESTER CLASSES KICK-OFF AT IIUI
After receiving approximately 20,000 applications for fall semester 2013, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has started its classes for the fall semester. Since 2001, it is highest number of admission applications university has received.

After joining university, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh directed university staff to ram up their efforts for making IIUI a reputed and commendable institute which produced mentionable results as number of applications increased from 15,000 to 20,000 in 2013 fall semester in comparison of last year. For the fall semester 2013 more than eleven-thousand male applied in various disciplines while number of female applicants exceeded the number of eight –thousand.

Various faculties of IIUI received a large number of applications during fall semester 2013. Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences received 6158, Faculty of Arabic received 174 admission applications while Faculty of Engineering & Technology 4389, Faculty of Islamic Studies (Usuluddin) 640, Faculty of Language & Literature 1544, Faculty of Management Sciences 1866, Faculty of Shariah & Law 1980, Faculty of Social Sciences 2439, International Institute of Islamic Economics received 721 application forms.

Recent increase in admissions at IIUI is due to leadership of Dr. Al-Draiweesh who took numerous measures for improvement of the university. His positive initiatives have made IIUI a unique institution which grabs the attention of the students.

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH PRESENTS WORKING PAPER IN ECIUL MEETING
President International Islamic University (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh during his recent visit to Saudi Arabia participated in a meeting of Executive Council of Islamic Universities League (ECIUL) in Riyadh and presented his working paper on the topic “Role of International Islamic University Islamabad in improvement of Societal Peace”.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh, while presenting his working paper said Islam stresses on promotion of peace and harmony, all Islamic universities should take special steps in this regard.

While briefing about the role of IIUI, in promotion of peace he said “IIUI provides a milieu of peace and harmony to its students and educate them to refrain from violence and extremism”. He added that IIUI is utilizing all available resources to introduce its students with Islamic teachings. Dr. Al-Draiweesh urged Islamic Universities to cooperate with institutions which work for improvement of law and order. “Universities are the institutions which play a pivotal role in disseminating the message of peace, we would have to work with more zeal and zest for this purpose” he maintained.

At the end, President IIUI lauded the role of executive Council of Islamic Universities League and thanked its members for their efforts for promotion of peace.

RAFIA ZAREEN, SAUD KHAN COMPLETE PHD DEGREES
Two students of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), Saud Khan and Rafia Zareen have completed their PhD degrees in Econometrics and Education degree program respectively.

According to notification issued by examination branch of the university, Saud Khan completed his PhD in Econometrics, his research was conducted on “HEDGING: An Islamic Approach” which was supervised by Professor Dr. Asad Zaman of IIUI. Evaluators of Saud’s research were Dr. Ahmed Khalid, Associate Professor from Bond University of Australia and Dr. Mehment, Associate professor of Faith University, Turkey.

While Rafia Zareen of PhD Education Degree program, narrated her thesis on the topic “A Study of Higher Secondary Science Education Curriculum in Pakistan in the Light of Constructivism”. Her research was supervised by Professor Dr. M. Munir Kiyani whilst foreign evaluators of her thesis were Dr, Norman Reid of Glasgow University, UK and Dr. Peter Charles Tayloy of Curtin University.

KSA TO PROVIDE 100 SCHOLARSHIPS OF RS 89 MILLION TO IIUI
Department of Awqaf Saleh Abdel Aziz Al Rajhi, Saudi Arabia and International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) have signed on an agreement under which former will provide one-hundred scholarships of worth 89 Million rupees to IIUI. Agreement regarding the scholarships was signed between both institutions during President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia.

A signing ceremony of the agreement was held at the office of Pro-Chancellor of IIUI and Vice Chancellor of Imam Muhammad Ibne Saud University, Saudi Arabia, Professor Dr. Sulaiman Bin Abdullah Abalkhail. Dr. Al-Draiweesh and Abul Slam Bin Saleh Al Rajhi signed on the agreement.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh thanked Dr. Sulaiman Bin Abdullah Abalkhail and Abul Slam Bin Saleh Al Rajihi for providing assistance in the shape of one hundred scholarships. While briefing about the introduction and objective of the university, Dr. Al-Draiweesh told that approximately thirty-thousand students getting quality education at IIUI. He also highlighted the financial requirements of the university on the occasion and lauded the role of government of Saudi Arabia in this regard.

PARTICIPANTS EXPLORE IQBAL’S MESSAGE IN WORKSHOP HELD AT IIUI
Rector International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Masoom Yasinzai has said that Allama Iqbal was not only an intellectual; he was a worthwhile philosopher and enthusiastic champion of Islamic universalism, our affection for him will remain shallow unless we understand his message, put aside our differences and stand united for progress of the country.

He expressed these views being a chief guest at concluding ceremony of a three-day workshop on “Towards Understanding Iqbal in 21st Century” organized by Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IIIRD) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). Acting President Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed and Director Coordination IIIRD Dr. Talib Hussain Sial and resource person of the workshop Khurram Ali Shafique also joined the concluding ceremony. Urdu language teachers of the Islamabad model colleges participated in three day workshop. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai while appreciating the role of IIIRD urged the organisers to hold another workshop of same nature, invite scholars and teachers across the country. He stressed on the participant teachers to be devoted to their profession while saying that nations cannot be built without good teachers. “Societies with racism and sectarianism face decline, we would have to ignore our personal differences and introduce our students with true message of Iqbal” he said. Rector IIUI added that teachers can give a new life to the nation, they are the real builders, they should first study and understand the core message of Iqbal and disseminate it to students and to the society at large. He lauded the efforts of Dr Mumtaz Ahmed and Dr. Talib Hussain Sial for conducting such an important and valuable workshop on Iqbal.

Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, in his address on the occasion announced that IIRD will provide every possible cooperation to Islamabad Model colleges for organizing such workshops in future. “Educational institutions and society have a close link, educational institutions can pave the way to progress of society” He said.

Earlier, Dr. Talib Hussain Sial briefed the participants about objectives IIIRD and its “outreach” programme.
