PhD in Civil Engineering

DCE GRADUATE PROGRAM MISSION

To provide broad and specialized education in the field of civil engineering in order to produce competent professionals and researchers using modern tools and practices for ensuring safety, sustainability, and socioeconomic development.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOS)

PEO-1: The graduates implement technical and managerial skills in planning, design, execution, and operation of multi-disciplinary engineering/research projects.

PEO-2: The graduates enhance and improve analytical and investigation skills through excellence in applied research.

PEO-3: The graduates establish an understanding of ethical practices, sustainability, the social, and environmental impact that allow them to be professional leaders and contributors to society.

PROGRAM LEARNING OBJECTIVES (PLOS)

PLO-1: Discipline Specific Knowledge & Skills

An ability to demonstrate technical knowledge and skills to the solution of engineering problems in at least one broad area of Civil Engineering disciplines. Those specific areas include structural engineering, transportation engineering, water resources engineering and management, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, construction engineering, and management.

PLO 2: Design/Development of Solutions

An ability to design sustainable and optimal solutions for engineering problems that meet specified needs with the use of modern tools.

PLO 3: Investigation and societal impact

An ability to investigate complex design/research problems and analyze/interpret the results for appropriate conclusions and recommendations to a real-world civil engineering problem with a significant perspective of economy, society, environment, and research.

PLO 4: Communication, Ethics and Project Management

An ability to employ effective communication using written, oral, and visual techniques. Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering and research practice. Moreover, the ability to demonstrate management skills and apply engineering principles to one’s own work, as a member and/or leader in a team, to manage projects in a multidisciplinary environment.
