The Department of Biological Sciences conducted a two-day hands-on training workshop on Real-Time PCR (RT-PCR) from at the Genomics Research Lab.
The primary objective of this activity was to enhance the practical skills of research students and young faculty members in the rapidly evolving field of molecular biology and genetics.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amir Khan, the Director of the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He expressed his appreciation for the Department of Biological Sciences’ efforts and assured continued support from ORIC to organize such crucial hands-on training sessions. Dr. Asif Mir, the Chairman of the Department of Biological Sciences, welcomed the participants and shed light on the significance of RT-PCR in disease diagnosis and functional analysis. He also reaffirmed the department’s commitment to providing valuable research facilities to students.
The workshop featured Dr. Bushra Jamil, CEO of BJ Labs, as the resource person. In the inaugural session held at the Council Hall, Admin Block, Dr. Jamil delved into the intricate details of RT-PCR techniques. Her presentation provided the audience with a comprehensive understanding of this crucial molecular biology method. The insights and expertise shared by Dr. Jamil were invaluable for the researchers attending the workshop.
Ms. Hira Mehreen and Mr. Saad Ullah, serving as technical personnel, conducted effective hands-on lab training sessions during the two-day workshop. Participants had the opportunity to engage in practical exercises and data analysis at the Genomics Research Lab, gaining practical experience with RT-PCR techniques.
Dr. Shaheen Shahzad, the Incharge of the Department of Biological Sciences, served as the event convener and managed the entire workshop alongside her team members, including Dr. Naima, Dr. Robina, and Dr. Ifrah. The cabinet members of the Acacia Society of Life Sciences, associated with the Department of Biological Sciences, also played a role in the successful execution of the workshop.
Towards the conclusion of the event, shields and certificates were distributed to both the organizers and the participants. Prof. Dr. Amir Khan commended the efforts of Chairman Prof. Dr. Asif Mir and Event Convener Dr. Shaheen Shahzad for their instrumental roles in arranging this important workshop. The workshop was deemed a great success, providing a platform for knowledge sharing, skill development, and fostering collaboration among researchers.
The overarching theme of the workshop centered on the practical application of Real-Time PCR, a powerful molecular biology technique widely used in research and diagnostics. The comprehensive training provided by the workshop aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively utilize RT-PCR in their respective research endeavors.
Throughout the two-day event, participants actively engaged in hands-on lab sessions facilitated by experienced technical personnel, Ms. Hira Mehreen and Mr. Saad Ullah. These practical sessions allowed attendees to apply theoretical knowledge in a laboratory setting, gaining a deeper understanding of RT-PCR procedures and techniques.
Dr. Bushra Jamil, as the resource person, brought a wealth of experience and expertise to the workshop. Her detailed elucidation of RT-PCR techniques during the inaugural session set the tone for the entire event. Participants benefited from her insights, gaining a nuanced understanding of the nuances and intricacies involved in Real-Time PCR.
Dr. Shaheen Shahzad, in her role as the event convener, demonstrated exemplary organizational skills in coordinating various aspects of the workshop. Her leadership, coupled with the contributions of Dr. Naima, Dr. Robina, and Dr. Ifrah, ensured the smooth execution of the event. The collaboration with the Acacia Society of Life Sciences further enriched the workshop, fostering a sense of community and shared learning among participants.
The distribution of shields and certificates marked the culmination of the workshop, acknowledging the efforts of both the organizers and the participants. Prof. Dr. Amir Khan’s acknowledgment of the pivotal roles played by Chairman Prof. Dr. Asif Mir and Event Convener Dr. Shaheen Shahzad underscored the significance of such initiatives in advancing research and academic pursuits.
The Two-Day Hands-On Training Workshop on Real-Time PCR organized by the Department of Biological Sciences proved to be a resounding success. Beyond the acquisition of practical skills, the event facilitated knowledge sharing, skill development, and collaboration, contributing to the ongoing advancement of molecular biology and genetics research within the academic community.
