Study Visit to Neelum Jehlum Hydroelectric Project
Industrial Liaison Office DME, FET, IIUI arranged study visit for Mechanical Engineering students (8th Semester) to Neelum Jehlim Hydroelectric Project, Nauseri, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. students along with Faculty Members Engr. Sajjad Ahmad (Incharge Industrial Liaison), Engr. Muhammad Jamshaid(Lecturer) and Engr. AbdurRafai visited on 7th May 2016.The Neelum–Jhelum Hydropower Plant is part of an under construction run-of-the-river hydroelectric power scheme designed to divert water from the Neelum River to a power station on the Jhelum River. The power station is located in Azad Kashmir, 22 km (14 mi) south of Muzaffarabad and will have an installed capacity of 969 MW. The first generator is scheduled to be commissioned in July 2017 and the entire project is expected to be complete in December 2017.At Nauseri C-01 site students visited the under construction Project. The project consists of underground tunnels for the diversion of Neelum River. A large Basin was under construction in the beginning of tunnel in order to decrease the velocity of Neelum River. The decrease in velocity results in settlement of sediments at the bottom of Basin. Thus water is purified from sediments to avoid the erosion in mechanical parts of the turbine. The water then supposed to enter in the tunnel 28 km long with a head of 420 m in order to rotate the turbine. In case of flood separate spill ways are provided to accommodate the river water. Engr. Waseem working as supervisor on Neelum Jehlum Project give our students detail briefing about the project. Industrial Liaison Office DME is very thankful to the Project Director of Neelum Jehlum Hydroelectric Project who give opportunity for our students to visit this state of the art Hydroelectric Project and hopeful for such cooperation in future.

Then he guide students inside the facility and explain each process involved in the formation of flakes and porridges. There were different types of conveyers in order to carry material from one place to another. These includes screw conveyers, belt conveyers, bucket conveyers and vibratory conveyers. Steam was produced in 5 Ton Boiler and deliver through piping system for different stages of processing. All the Plant was automatic, from the start of raw material like corm flour to crispy and hot pop corns. The visit was very beneficial for students to visualize and interlink the concepts studied in books and the real world processes.
