Faculty of Education Holds Strategic Meeting to Advance Academic and Administrative Goals

The Faculty of Education, IIUI, held an engaging and strategic meeting on Thursday, November 21, 2024, chaired by Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Associate Professor and In-Charge Programs. In-charges and faculty members from the Department of Educational Leadership and Management (ELM) and the Department of Teacher Education (TE) attended the meeting.

The meeting began with a recitation of the Holy Quran followed by an opening address from Dr. Azhar Mahmood. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration, noting that the Worthy President, IIUI, has expressed confidence in the faculty’s potential and assured full institutional support. Faculty members, including reiterated their readiness to contribute to the faculty’s growth and pledged their full cooperation.

Key decisions were made to ensure streamlined academic and administrative operations. These included the reconstitution of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) committees, updating the Training Needs Analysis, and enhancing documentation for MS and PhD programs. Faculty members were also reminded to update LMS and CMS platforms regularly. The chair discussed that as Admissions for Spring 2025 are opening, both Departments should provide the strengths of the programs for highlighting by Admission and Protocol sections of the university. The admission campaign for increasing enrollment in all degree programs may be planned and executed.

A proposal for a Faculty-Level Academic Calendar was also discussed. Additionally, measures to strengthen student engagement through an interactive Student Affairs Committee and to enhance the visibility of faculty achievements via departmental website updates were emphasized.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by the chair, acknowledging the faculty’s dedication and commitment to fostering academic excellence and innovation. This productive session highlighted a collective vision for advancing the Faculty of Education’s academic, administrative, and research activities.

 
Seminar Titled “Fostering Social Responsibilities among Students”

On November 19, the Department of Teacher Education (DoTE) organized an insightful seminar titled “Fostering Social Responsibilities among Students” at Auditorium, Dar ul Munira Block, Female Campus, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, Chairperson, DoTE, endorsed this event by stating that it is very important to arrange a seminar for students on the theme of “Fostering Social Responsibilities among Students” as it will play contributive role in sensitizing students about their social responsibilities and enabling them to learn strategies to fulfill these responsibilities in an effective way. The focal person of this seminar was Dr. Fatima Batool, Assistant Professor, DoTE. Guest speaker for the seminar was Dr. Rabia Ali, Associate Professor/ Incharge (Male/Female Programs), Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences, International Islamic University Islamabad.

Along with faculty members of DoTE; Dr. Faryal Umbreen, (Incharge Dawah Center, IIUI) and Dr. Noreen Saher, Associate Professor, Department of Anthropology also graced this event with their presence. Key organizers of this seminar were students of BS Education with Information Technology and BS Education with English Language Teaching. The seminar began with recitation from the Holy Quran followed by National Anthem. After it, brief Introduction of Dr. Rabia Ali was given by Ms. Aqsa Khalid (from BS Education IT) and she was invited to share her valuable insights on topic “Fostering Social Responsibilities among Students”.

Dr. Rabia Ali delivered a thought provoking lecture on social responsibilities and also engaged the audiences in good discussion. She emphasized that students must practice the values of respect, empathy, tolerance, and gratitude in their daily life. They are required to be conscious, ethical and productive member of society and for that they may get engaged in volunteer community services. They must be trained to be good problem solver and value diversity in educational institutions and society. They must help their fellows to understand complex educational concepts and contribute to humanitarian efforts. She encouraged students to identify their own feelings, strengths and challenges to become productive citizens of country. She stressed that fostering social responsibility must be key element of our education system as training of students in this regard can prove very beneficial for our society.

As volunteer speakers, Dr. Faryal Umbreen, Dr. Noreen Saher, and Dr. Zarina Akhtar gave their valuable insights about the need and importance of conducting inter-departmental activities and taking initiatives to foster social responsibilities among students. They further stated that with academic development of students we should pay equal attention towards social and holistic personality development of students. After it, Incharge, DoTE Dr. Alina Raza was invited for vote of thanks to guest speaker, faculty members, and audiences. At the end, Incharge, DoTE Dr. Alina Raza and Dr. Zarina Akhtar presented token of appreciation to guest speaker and certificate of appreciation to focal person for their valuable contributions in seminar. This seminar served as key initiative to sensitize students about their social responsibilities and familiarizing them with strategies to perform these responsibilities diligently.

 
Energy Conservation Awareness Campaign – “Switch Off, Save Tomorrow” by Department of Teacher Education IIUI

On October 24, 2024, B.Ed students from the Department of Teacher Education, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized an energy conservation awareness campaign titled “Switch Off, Save Tomorrow.” This campaign was part of IIUI’s ongoing Strategic Plan for the Efficient Use of Resources, highlighting the university’s commitment to sustainability and responsible resource management. It was organized in reference to World Energy Saving Day, observed annually on October 21, to raise global awareness about the importance of conserving energy and promoting sustainable practices.

The primary goal of the “Switch Off, Save Tomorrow” campaign was to educate and inspire the university community to adopt energy-saving habits, with a special focus on electricity conservation.

A brief but impactful demonstration was held on the reception area of Fatima Tuz Zahra Block , where students presented practical tips on energy conservation. They showcased simple actions such as switching off unused lights, unplugging devices, and utilizing natural lighting whenever possible. Informative posters were displayed in prominent locations, and pamphlets were distributed to students and faculty.

“As part of IIUI’s broader strategy to promote the efficient use of resources, this campaign played a crucial role in reinforcing the university’s commitment to fostering a sustainable future,” said Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, Chairperson of the Department of Teacher Education.

Dr. Summaya Chughtai, Incharge Female Campus highly commended the B.Ed students for their exceptional efforts in organizing the energy conservation awareness campaign under the supervision of Dr. Fouzia Ajmal. She said that this sort of activities will have impact on the generations.

The faculty and staff members from Faculty of Education and other Departments of F.C appreciated the successful organization of the “Switch Off, Save Tomorrow” campaign and highlighted its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG 13: Climate Action. They added that the students actively contributed to global efforts to combat climate change and foster sustainable practices, reinforcing IIUI’s dedication to sustainability and responsible resource use.

The campaign served as a reminder that even small, individual actions—such as switching off a light—can collectively contribute to a more sustainable and energy-efficient world.

 
Seminar on “Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H. as a Role Model for Humanity and Role of Students According to Islamic Philosophy”

On October 17, the Department of Teacher Education (DOTE) organized an insightful seminar titled “Seerat un-Nabi S.A.W.W and Role of Students according to Islamic Philosophy” at Auditorium, Fatima tuz Zahra Block, Female Campus, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, Chairperson, DOTE, endorsed this event by stating that it is very important to arrange a seminar for students on the themes of ”Seerat un Nabi s.a.w.w and Islamic Philosophy” as it will contribute a lot in familiarizing them with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H and making them practical Muslims. The organizers of this seminar were Dr. Zarina Akhtar and Dr. Fatima Batool, Assistant Professors, DOTE. Guest speakers for the seminar were Dr. Aliya Akram, Assistant Professor/In-Charge Faculty of Arabic Female Campus, IIUI and Ms. Saadia Razzaq, Associate Professor, HoD Education Department, Islamabad Model College for Girls, F-7/4, Islamabad.

Key organizers of this seminar were students of BS Education (Fourth Semester), BS Education with Information Technology and BS Education with English Language Teaching. The seminar began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by an introduction of the speakers. Dr. Aliya Akram delivered a comprehensive lecture on the title “Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as Role Model for Humanity”. She emphasized how the Holy Prophet (PBUH) advocated for respect, peace, and compassion, even in difficult situations such as conflicts or disagreements.

Dr. Aliya also highlighted how the Seerat un Nabi S.A.W.W serves as a guide for Muslims, showing them how to live with kindness and uphold human dignity. Following this, Ms. Saadia Razzaq discussed the “Role of Students According to Islamic Philosophy”. She explained how philosophical principles can help in personality development of students and emphasized the importance of philosophy in an all-rounded educational framework. She advised students that if you want to achieve your goals, then doing hard work and putting all possible efforts in practice must be the part of your personality.

In concluding remarks, Dr. Zarina Akhtar said that teaching of Holy Prophet (PBUH) guide us to show patience in each and every difficult situation and we must tried our level best to fulfill our responsibilities in an effective way. Besides, appreciating the valuable insights shared by the guest speakers, she also valued active participation of faculty members and students in the seminar. At the end, Incharge, DOTE Dr. Alina Raza presented certificates of appreciation to focal persons and token of appreciation to guest speakers for their valuable contributions in seminar. The seminar provided the students with enriching perspectives on both the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) and the critical role of Islamic philosophy in shaping the character of students.

 
BS Education Students Gain Real-World Insights During Educational Visit to Govt. Girls Secondary School, Rawalpindi

On October 11, 2024, students from the BS 4th Semester, Department of Teacher Education, IIUI, participated in an educational visit to Govt. Girls Secondary School, Magistrate Colony, Rawalpindi, as part of their School Management course. The study tour was organized by Dr. Fouzia Ajmal with the objective of providing students with hands-on exposure to key aspects of school management, resource allocation, and classroom dynamics.

Dr. Anisa Khatoon, Senior Headmistress, and her team warmly welcomed the students and facilitated the visit, giving them an up-close view of the daily operations of a well-managed public school. Dr. Anisa also took the time to brief the students on management practices, school records management, and the importance of effective leadership in educational institutions.

Throughout the visit, students were able to observe key administrative processes, including office workflows, classroom management techniques, and the coordination of resources such as the library, computer labs, and laboratory facilities. The highlight of the visit was an interactive Q&A session with the school’s senior management, where students gained valuable insights into the leadership strategies employed and the challenges faced by administrators in running a public secondary school.

The students found the experience incredibly enriching. Many remarked that it provided a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in managing a school. They appreciated the opportunity to see the application of theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting and recognized that effective school management is a challenging task that requires not only strategic planning but also strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

The students said “We learned so much from this visit, especially about the practical difficulties and the amount of effort it takes to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. It’s clear that school management requires a diverse skill set, and this experience has motivated us to develop those skills further.”

The visit allowed students to connect their academic studies with practical applications, gaining real-world experience that will enhance their future professional development. The Department of Teacher Education is committed to organizing such study tours, providing students with vital opportunities to develop the skills needed to succeed in the field of education.

 
Department of Teacher Education Arranged a Seminar on “Format of One Pager Summary and Research Synopsis”

Providing adequate guidance and training on the format of research synopsis and one pager summary holds significant importance particularly for research students. Such kind of support can enable researchers to complete their research work timely and in an effective way. Keeping in view this significance, Department of Teacher Education (DoTE) organized a seminar on “Format of One Pager Summary and Research Synopsis” for MS and PhD students at CTF Seminar Room, Fatima Tuz Zahra Block, Female Campus IIUI. Focal person to organize this seminar was Dr. Fatima Batool. Resource persons of this seminar were Dr. Zarina Akhtar and Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Assistant Professors, Department of Teacher Education.

Seminar started with recitation of Holy Quran; afterwards brief introduction of both resource persons was given to participants. Dr. Zarina Akhtar shared her valuable insights to write an effective introduction and researchable problem statement. She gave very practical examples to students and also shared some sampled problem statements with participants. She also highlighted some common mistakes which students usually make in writing research objectives, questions and hypotheses. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal guided research students to write research methodology, he also provided very treasured information to students for getting data to write study population and sample selection. Dr. Zarina Akhtar added that researchers must also select data collection instruments very carefully. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal highlighted the importance of applying relevant statistical techniques based on objective of study. Both resource persons provided practical guidelines to write outcomes of the study effectively. General rules and format to write detailed research synopsis were also briefed to participants. After talk of resource persons, participants were invited to ask questions and clarify their confusions related to format and technicalities of research process.

Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, Chairperson, Department of Teacher Education and other faculty members also joined this seminar to appreciate the efforts of resource persons and learning desire of students. Very fruitful and supportive guidelines were provided by chairperson and faculty members. At the end chairperson acknowledged the dedication of resource persons and organizer and presented them certificates as token of appreciation.

 
Teachers’ Day Celebrations by Faculty of Education

Teachers’ Day holds great importance in all over the world since 1994, acknowledging the vital role of teachers in shaping individuals and society. This annual celebration honors teachers’ dedication to imparting knowledge and values, fostering curiosity, and molding future generations. Following this tradition, Department of Teacher Education and Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education celebrated this day on 9th October, 2024 in Female Campus of IIUI. This day not only recognizes teachers’ tireless efforts but also underscores the transformative power of education.

The reception area of Fatima-tuz-Zahra block was decorated with paper flowers, and artwork, to create a warm and inviting and attractive atmosphere. Along with this, event was celebrated in auditorium of Fatima-tuz-Zahra Block featured with several speeches highlighting the pivotal role that teachers play in shaping the future in both academic and personal development of students. Moreover, students presented poems dedicated to their teachers. These heartfelt pieces captured the essence of mentorship, inspiration, and the lasting bonds formed in the classroom. A group of students performed a short role play depicting a typical classroom scenario, showcasing the challenges and during the class and exams. This engaging performance not only entertained the audience but also served to remind everyone of the hard work of teachers put into their profession.

Dr. Shamsa Aziz (Former Chairperson, Department of Teacher Education) also attended this event. She highlighted that teachers are architects of our future; each of you sitting here today, has a teacher who has impacted your life in profound ways. Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani (Chairperson, Department of Teacher Education) highlighted that teachers are the heroes who dedicate their lives to nurturing young minds. Their passion, foster creativity, and instill values that lasts for lifetime. Each one of us carries the imprint of a teacher who believed in us, even when we didn’t believe in ourselves. He further advised students to develop their IT skills to become good teachers and meet the demands of 21st century effectively.

Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge, Department of Educational Leadership and Management) presented a thought-provoking poem, highlighting the curiosity of students to embrace their learning, build confidence, and respect for teachers. Dr. Alina Raza, (Incharge, Department of Teacher Education) mentioned that, teachers serve as mentors, offering guidance and support in personal development. They help students navigate challenges, and make informed decisions about their futures. She stressed that as a teacher, we must do tireless efforts to elevate the status of our profession and build a legacy where every teacher feels honored and empowered.

At the end of session, to celebrate the greatest achievement of Faculty of Education in Spring Gala 2024 (First Prize in National Stalls for representing Punjab Culture) a video was played and diligent efforts of organizing team were acknowledged by the faculty members.

 
Alumni Meeting of Faculty of Education, IIUI

Alumni meeting was held on October 3, 2024 in the seminar room of Faculty of Education, IIUI. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Acting President, IIUI and Dr. Ghufran Ahmed, Director, (Student Affairs) IIUI were the guests of honor. Senior alumni of Faculty of Education, IIUI who are serving on executive positions in different public sector intuitions ensured their presence in the program. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar briefed about the active role of alumni in promoting the Faculty of Education as Ambassador of Faculty of Education and International Islamic University Islamabad. Dr. Ghufran Ahmed highlighted the role of alumni in upgrading the world ranking of the universities in global perspectives.

Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, Chairperson, Department of Teacher Education invited the alumni guests for their expert opinion for further upgrading the running academic programs and launching market oriented new programs.

Dr. Azhar Mehmood, Chairperson, Department of Educational Leadership and Management discussed the internship program with the alumni guests for further improvements. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, In-charge, Department of Teacher Education, IIUI appreciated the role of Faculty of Education, IIUI in providing the quality education. He further said that Faculty of Education, IIUI has a dominant place in the field of Education in Pakistan. Dr. Zarina Akhtar briefed about the activities for alumni for upgrading the ranking of IIUI. Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education also ensured her presence in the alumni meeting as a graduate of IIUI.

Alumni guests appreciate the role of Faculty of Education, IIUI in promoting quality education at national and international level. The program was organized by Dr. Asad Abbas Rizvi, Assistant Professor, Department o Educational Leadership and Management, IIUI and Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education Dr. Asad Abbas Rizvi thanked all the alumni guests for their participation.

 
IIUI Pioneers Digital Pedagogy with “QUALITY FIRST” Workshop

A two-day workshop titled “Quality First: Enhancing Online Teaching in Higher Education” was held at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). The workshop, aimed at elevating the quality of online education in Pakistan, was organized by the Faculty of Education in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD), and Directorate of Quality Assurance and Development (QAD). The workshop was a part of NRPU Project Quality Assurance for Online Teaching in Higher Education in Pakistan by Dr Fouzia Ajmal (PI) and Prof. Dr. N. B. Jumani (Co-PI). The workshop is aligned with international frameworks including Quality Learning and Teaching (QLT) and Quality Matters (QM) alongside HEC’s Online Education Toolkit.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Acting President IIUI, who emphasized the critical role of quality in online education as higher education increasingly shifts to digital platforms. Mr. Abaidullah Anwar, Deputy Director QAA and Focal Person ODL, HEC explained the role of HEC and its efforts for the open and distance learning policy as well as he clarified certain misperceptions about this mode of learning. Dr Rehmat Ellahi, Director QAD mentioned this initiative to be timely and expressed gratitude to the organizers, resource persons, and participants, recognizing the joint efforts of the Faculty of Education, IRD, and QAD in making this workshop a reality.

Throughout the two days, participants were engaged in sessions including Course Overview and Introduction by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Idrees, Director National Assessment Coordination at Pakistan Institute of Education, Assessment of Students’ Online Learning by Dr. Zarina Akhtar, Assistant Professor at IIUI, Materials and Resources for Online Teaching by Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Chairperson , Department of Educational Leadership and Management at IIUI, Interaction and Community Development by Dr. Rukhsana Durrani, Lecturer at Allama Iqbal Open University, Instruction and Facilitation in Online Teaching and Learning by Dr. Fatima Maqsood, Assistant Professor at IIUI, Teaching and Learning with Technology by Dr. Mubeshera Tufail, Lecturer at Allama Iqbal Open University, Support and Resources for Online Teaching and Learning by Prof. Dr. Tamim Ahmed Khan, Senior Professor at Bahria University, Universal Design and Accessibility by Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Incharge of Academic Affairs, FoE IIUI, and Readiness for Mobile Design by Mr. Munawwar Ahmed, Lecturer at Virtual University.

The event brought together around 40 faculty members from different disciplines from Bahria University, Foundation University , Iqra University , Muslim Youth University, National University of Modern Languages , National University of Sciences and Technology , Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University , Quaid-e-Azam University , University of Wah and from all faculties of International Islamic University Islamabad.

The workshop concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, where participants were recognized for their commitment to enhancing their teaching skills. The event was a resounding success, setting the stage for future initiatives aimed at promoting excellence in online education in Pakistan.

 
Faculty of Education at IIUI Welcomes Students delegate from University of Poonch Rawalakot

On October 1, 2024, the Faculty of Education International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) hosted students from the University of Poonch Rawalakot (Mang Campus) accompanied by their faculty members including Mr. Danish Zahir, Ms. Iffat Rehman and Ms. Sana Mehmood for an engaging and informative visit. The students were welcomed by Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Dr. Zarina Akhtar, and Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, who provided an insightful briefing on IIUI, the Faculty of Education, and its various programs and activities. Other faculty members were also present on the occasion.

The briefing highlighted the university’s commitment to academic excellence and the role of the Faculty of Education in shaping future educators. The visiting students were given a comprehensive overview of the research initiatives, degree programs, and its contributions to educational development. Dr Alina Raza responded to the queries of students regarding portfolios and research.

Following the briefing, the students were taken on a short campus tour, where they had the opportunity to explore key facilities of the university. The visit provided students with a firsthand experience of life at IIUI and an opportunity to interact with faculty members, further strengthening academic ties between the institutions.

In addition to offering insights into IIUI’s programs, the Faculty of Education highlighted its services and collaborative efforts extended to other institutions. This includes support for curriculum development, training workshops for educators, and joint research ventures aimed at promoting educational innovation and development across institutions.

The visit concluded on a positive note, with a meaningful exchange of ideas and a strengthened relationship between the two institutions. This visit is part of IIUI’s ongoing efforts to build lasting partnerships and provide services that contribute to the educational advancement of various academic communities.

 
Seminar on “Rahamatullilaalmin: The Real Guarantor of Women Rights”
The Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, organized an insightful seminar on, “Rahamatullilaalmin: The Real Guarantor of Women Rights,” to highlight the profound role of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in advocating and protecting the rights of women. The event was aimed to focus the Islamic perspective of women’s rights, which continues to inspire modern discussions on gender equality. Initially student from different batched participated in recitation of naat.

Dr. Faryal Umbreen,(Incharge Dawah Center, IIUI) , graced the session as a guest speaker, delivered an interactive and thought-provoking speech. She highlighted that, the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) teaching provides a groundbreaking foundation for women’s rights, including rights of education, property, and dignity. She mentioned how the Prophet ensured the protection of women’s rights (as daughter, sister, wife and mother) within the family, society, and legal systems, setting a standard for justice and equity with reference to teachings of Quran and Sunnah. The resource person underlined the Prophet’s emphasis on education for both men and women, and the rights of inheritance for women, which was established by the Prophet (PBUH) in an era where women often had no legal or financial independence. The speaker also highlighted how the Prophet (PBUH) firmly opposed harmful practices such as domestic violence.

Seminar was also attended by the, faculty members from the Department of Teacher Education and Department of Educational Leadership and Management. At the end, questions from participants were addressed by providing, contemporary examples of how Islamic principles continue to inspire gender equality initiatives around the world.

 
Orientation Session for Newly Enrolled Students in Department of ELM
The Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education held a comprehensive orientation session for first-semester students of various programs, BS in Education (Educational Leadership and Management) and PhD Education (Educational Leadership and Management). Orientation session was aimed to familiarize new students with the department’s offerings, academic culture, and the range of resources available to support their new academic journey.

Ms. Sumaira Batool, Teaching/Research Associate (focal person activities) provided detailed briefings regarding rules and regulations of the University with reference to course registration process, attendance policy, grading criteria, scholarship resources, co-curricular activities and a detailed introduction of Faculty members of the Department.

Students were also encouraged to set high personal and academic standards for optimal growth in new journey and emphasize on the development of moral values, character building, sense of loyalty and honesty. Dr. Munazza Mahmood, (Incharge programs, Department of ELM), and Dr. Sayed Asad Abbas Rizvi also graced the event with their presence. The session was concluded with a gymnasium tour, led by senior students, helping the first-semester to familiarize themselves with key facilities available for sports’ activities.

 
Orientation Session for Newly Enrolled Students in Department of Teacher Education

Newly enrolled female students of Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education attended a comprehensive orientation session at the Auditorium of Fatima Block (Female Campus). Students of different academic programs; BS in Education (English Language Teaching), BS in Education (Information Technology), B.Ed (Hons.) Elementary Education and PhD Teacher Education attended the session. The orientation session aimed to introduce new students to the department’s offerings, academic culture, and the range of resources available to support marking the beginning of their new academic journey for success.

Dr. Humaira Akram (focal person activities) imparted the introduction and related rules and regulations of the University with reference to course registration process, attendance policy, grading criteria, scholarship resources, co-curricular activities and a detailed introduction of Faculty members of the Department of Teacher Education.

Students were also encouraged to set high personal and academic standards for optimal growth in new journey and to emphasize on the development of moral values, character building, sense of loyalty and honesty. Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, Chairperson, DoTE and Dr. Alina Raza, Incharge Academic Affairs, graced the event. Orientation session-Fall 2024 was organized by Directorate of Students’ Affairs, IIUI at Faculty of Education on 19-9-2024 in the auditorium Block-2, IIUI. The session was started with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Dr. Hafiz Ghufran Ali, Director (Student Affairs), IIUI chaired the session. Dr. Muhamad Munir Kayani, Chairperson, Department of Teacher Education, IIUI, Dr. Azhar Mehmood, Chairperson, Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Dr. Asad Abbas Rizvi, In-charge Academic Affairs, Faculty of Education, Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education, Dr. Shair Baz Ali, Assistant Professor, Department of Educational Leadership and Management ensured their presence in the orientation session.


Dr. Hafiz Ghufran Ahmad, Director (Student Affairs), IIUI, briefed the students about discipline of the university. He loudly advised the students to focus on their study and perform positive role in the society. Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani highlighted the need and role of teaching as a profession. The Department of Educational Leadership and Management (ELM), Faculty of Education (FoE) at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), successfully organized an inclusive training session on the Campus Management System (CMS) for faculty and staff on September 13, 2024. Led by Dr. Munaza Mahmood, Incharge of the ELM Department, the training aimed to strengthen the digital skills of both academic and administrative staff, aligning with the university’s commitment to embracing modern technology for improved academic and administrative functions.

The newly introduced CMS at IIUI is designed to streamline administrative processes, optimize course registration management, and enhance communication between faculty and students. The session was conducted by Mr. Munir Baig, Deputy Director IT (Software), and Mr. Abdul Ghaffar, both experts in CMS operations. They provided valuable insights into efficiently managing student records and utilizing CMS features to support academic activities. Orientation Session for Visiting Faculty at International Islamic University Islamabad, September 4, 2024

Department of Teacher Education held an informative orientation session for visiting faculty members. Chaired by Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, Chairperson of the Department, the meeting aimed to ensure a seamless transition into the Fall Semester 2024.

The session covered a comprehensive range of essential topics, including the timetable, the effective use of the Course Management System (CMS), examination protocols, attendance policies, and teaching and learning strategies. A significant focus was placed on the implementation of course specifications, including how to integrate updated course content into syllabi to align with current educational standards and enhance student learning outcomes.

Dr. Zarina Akhtar, Incharge Quality Development & Higher Studies (FOE), guided the faculty on the course specification document. Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Incharge Academic Affairs (FOE), discussed the marks distribution for various batches. Ms. Raffiqa Nazli, Assistant Director (DoTE), highlighted administrative matters related to visiting faculty. Dr. Alina Raza, Incharge, Academic Affairs (DOTE), delivered a brief presentation covering various aspects of orientation.

During the session, Dr. Kayani emphasized the importance of maintaining the quality of learning in all courses. He encouraged faculty members to focus not only on content delivery but also on enhancing the overall student learning experience. B.Ed (Hons) Elementary Education Program of Department of Teacher Education Accredited in “W” Category (the Highest Accreditation Category)

The Faculty of Education at International Islamic University Islamabad has reached a significant milestone by achieving the highest possible accreditation, the “W” Category, for its B.Ed (Hons) Education Program from the National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE). https://www.nacte.org.pk/Accreditation/programs

This is the first program of FoE IIUI which has attained this top-level accreditation. Initially accredited in 2017 with an “X” Category, the program has now progressed to the prestigious “W” Category, the highest standard of accreditation.

This exceptional achievement places the International Islamic University among only three institutions nationwide—alongside IBA Sukkur and Kinnaird College—that have received “W” Category accreditation for their B.Ed (Hons) programs. The success is attributed to the leadership and dedication of Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Chairperson Department of Teacher Education with significant contributions from the Dr. Zarina Akhtar focal person, and the whole team of Department particularly Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Dr. Humaira Akram, Dr. Alina Raza, Ms. Raffiqa Nazli and Ms. Sehrish Niazi.

Department of Teacher Education, Female Campus, Organizes, “Group Activity on Famous Hydraulic Civilizations of the World”
Civilization is the holistic progressive development of mankind in the post-savage and barbaric period, encompassing social relations that ensure the existing of culture. Studying ancient civilization cultivates analytical and critical thing abilities among students during their course of World History and Civilizations. A group activity was arranged by BS (Teacher Education) 3rd semester to celebrate the vibrant cultural diversity of the world, under the supervision of Ms. Aneela Alam Gill.

Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Chairperson Department of Teacher Education, Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Dr. Humera, Dr. Alina, Dr. Azeema Khatoon graced the efforts of the students. They lauded the efforts of students and congratulated Ms. Aneela Alam Gill on successfully arranging the event. A large number of students also attended the event.

Traditional models and mouthwatering cuisines and traditional literature from around the country were displayed. It was a great opportunity for students to embrace with the famous hydraulic civilizations f the world.

The Department of Teacher Education at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) successfully hosted the “Arts & Humanities: Global Perspective Event” on May 23, 2024. This enriching event was part of the course “Introduction to Arts and Humanities” for the BS Education Program and BS Arabic students. The event was orchestrated under the expert guidance of Dr. Muhammad Sher Baz Ali, Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership & Management.

The event featured a diverse array of participants, including students from the Department of Teacher Education, the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, and the Faculty of Arabic Studies. The event was a testament to the collaborative spirit and the multidisciplinary approach fostered at IIUI.

The primary objective of the event was to provide students with a global perspective on arts and humanities. Participants showcased various elements of different countries, including Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Russia, Turkey, China, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Afghanistan, Malaysia, and Egypt. The presentations covered a wide range of topics such as language, dress, food, culture, history, and geography, offering a rich tapestry of global diversity.
Held at the Gallery of the Faculty of Education on the Male Campus, the event commenced at 9:00 AM and saw a vibrant turnout. The event provided an interactive platform for students to engage with and learn about the cultural heritage and artistic expressions of different nations.

Faculty of Education, IIUI Organizes Educational Trip for Students
Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad organized educational trip for students on 18 May, 2024 for the visit of historical places. The trip aimed to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical exposure by visiting key cultural and historical sites. Students visited the Army Museum, Lok Virsa Museum, Pakistan Monument Museum, and Faisal Mosque.

At the Army Museum, they explored Pakistan’s military history, while the Lok Virsa Museum provided insights into the nation’s cultural heritage. The Pakistan Monument Museum highlighted the country’s struggle for independence, and Faisal Mosque offered a study in Islamic architecture.

Dr. Shair Baz, Assistant Professor, Department of Educational Leadership and Management, organized the trip successfully. The success of the trip was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, and the support of Dr. Azhar Mehmood, Chairperson, Department of Educational Leadership and Management. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, In-charge of the Department of Teacher Education, played a crucial role in coordinating the student activities. Beyond the Screen: Engaging Students with Game-Based Pedagogy” Enlightens Audience at IIUI
On May-08-2024, Department of Teacher Education at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) hosted a thought-provoking Seminar titled “Beyond the Screen: Engaging Students with Game-Based Pedagogy”. The event brought together esteemed guests, including Dr Zarina Akhtar, Assistant Professor of the Department of Teacher Education, and Dr Shamsa Aziz, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Teacher Education, along with bright Internship students of BS Education.
The seminar commenced with a warm welcome followed by a moment of reverence with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the national anthem, symbolizing unity and pride as a nation.

The purpose of the seminar was highlighting the significance of exploring innovative methods in education, particularly game-based pedagogy. Attendees gained insights into the benefits of incorporating educational games into teaching practices, including increased student motivation, retention, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

The seminar featured presentations from three groups of talented MS Teacher Education students who showcased their educational games designed for different grade levels and subjects. Through interactive activities, attendees gained a firsthand glimpse into the transformative potential of game-based learning.

The seminar provided an enriching experience for attendees, encouraging active participation and engagement in discussions. By delving into the realm of game-based pedagogy, participants embarked on a journey toward enhancing teaching and learning practices.

At the end certificates of appreciation were presented to Dr. Zarina Akhtar and the students of MS Teacher Education for their invaluable contributions to the event.

 
Science Exhibition Organized by B.Ed. Students
Date: May 8, 2024
This science exhibition showcased various projects created by B.Ed. Elementary Education students to demonstrate scientific concepts in a clear and engaging way. The projects aimed to spark curiosity and promote scientific literacy among viewers. It was supervised by Dr. Zarina Akhtar.

Project Displays:
The exhibition featured five projects covering diverse scientific fields:

Greenhouse: This project explored the structure and function of greenhouses, highlighting their role in optimizing plant growth conditions. It explained key components like ventilation, heating/cooling, lighting, irrigation, and monitoring systems. The project emphasized the benefits of greenhouses in extending growing seasons, protecting plants, and increasing yields.

Layers of the Atmosphere:
This project focused on the Earth’s atmosphere, explaining its various layers (troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere). It described the unique characteristics of each layer and their role in regulating temperature, protecting Earth from radiation, and influencing weather patterns.

Biodiversity:
This project addressed the importance of biodiversity, the variety of living things on Earth. It explained how biodiversity maintains balanced ecosystems and provides essential resources like food, medicine, clean air, and water. The project also highlighted the threats to biodiversity and emphasized the need for conservation efforts.

Kidney Model:
This project presented a model of the kidney, a vital organ responsible for filtering waste products from the blood. The model showcased key structures like the nephrons and renal blood vessels, explaining the filtration process and urine production. It emphasized the kidney’s role in maintaining fluid balance and eliminating waste from the body.

Solar System Model:
This project displayed a model of the solar system, including the Sun, eight planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune), dwarf planets like Pluto, and the Sun’s corona. The model provided a basic understanding of the solar system’s structure and the planets’ relative positions and sizes.

Food chain:
It is a series of organisms that eat other organisms, showing how energy and nutrients are passed from one level to the next. It starts with producers (plants, algae) that convert sunlight into energy, followed by:

1. Primary consumers (herbivores) that eat producers
2. Secondary consumers (carnivores) that eat primary consumers
3. Tertiary consumers (top predators) that eat secondary consumers
4. Decomposers (bacteria, fungi) that break down dead organisms, recycling nutrients

The science exhibition was a success, offering a captivating way to learn about various scientific concepts. The B.Ed. students effectively presented their projects, fostering scientific curiosity and knowledge among the audience.

Training session on “Data cleaning and Data Analysis through ChatGpt version 4 and 3.5” was organized at Faculty of Education, on 26 March 2024 at seminar room, Faculty of Education. The training session was conducted for the MS and PhD students of Faculty of Education to enhance their academic capabilities regarding Data cleaning and Data Analysis through ChatGpt version 4 and 3.5. Sufficient number of MS and PhD students ensured their presence in the training session. The training session was successfully completed in the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean, Faculty of Education. The Keynote speaker was Dr. Sher Baz Ali, Assistant Professor, Department of Educational Leadership and Management, faculty of Education, IIUI.

Dr. Sher Baz Ali, successfully demonstrated the Data cleaning and Data Analysis through ChatGpt version 4 and 3.5. The training session was arranged by Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, In-Charge Academic, Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education, IIUI. A Journey of Insight into Islamic Education – Study Tour organized by Department of Teacher Education to Islamic Research Institute, IIUI
In a study tour organized by Department of Teacher Education on Friday March 08, 2024, the students of B.Ed Elementary Education studying the course of “Islamic Education System” were accompanied by Dr. Fouzia Ajmal and Ms. Sehrish Niazi. The field trip, which included a visit to the IRI at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), was a remarkable opportunity for students to delve into the practical aspects of Islamic education.

The field trip aimed to provide students with experience in a real-life educational institution dedicated to Islamic research. Immersing themselves in the environment allowed them to witness the practical implementation of Islamic education principles and gain firsthand insights into teaching and learning processes. Dr. Hafiz Aftab Ahmad, Assistant Professor/Head, Department of Comparative Study of World Religions facilitated the tour and gave detailed briefing about Islamic research Institute.

Visiting the IRI gave students the chance to interact with scholars and researchers who are authorities in the field of Islamic education. Engaging in discussions, asking questions, and learning from the wealth of knowledge and experiences of these experts was a pivotal aspect of the trip.

Dr Hamidullah library and archives were also explored, offering a rich repository of resources related to Islamic research and education. Students had the opportunity to access relevant books and journals, broadening their understanding of the subject matter.

The IRI Gallery and Printing Press were also shown to the students. As part of the study tour, Q&A sessions were organized to enhance students’ engagement mentioning the contribution of IRI for the advancement of Islamic education research on a global scale, Paigham-e-Pakistan initiative and How does IRI collaborate with other institutions to promote Islamic education?

The visit to the IRI left a lasting impact on the students, influencing their understanding of Islamic education and its practical implementation. It served as a catalyst for further exploration and a source of inspiration for their academic and professional journeys in the sphere of Islamic education.

The Department of Teacher Education expresses gratitude to the Islamic Research Institute for its facilitation, recognizing the Institute’s pivotal role in broadening the horizons of these future educators and contributing to the advancement of Islamic education.

 
WORKSHOP ON PROPOSAL WRITING
Department of Teacher Education organized a workshop on Proposal Writing at International Islamic University Islamabad on 23rd February 2024. The purpose of the workshop was to equip students for writing research proposal. There were two sessions of the workshop which were very informative in the way that the students would be able to do their research in future with the use of AI tools. The workshop was started with the recitation of Holy Quran by the MS Scholar Qudsia Shami from the Department of Teacher Education. After the recitation, first session was started.

The first session started at 9:30AM and the session speaker was Dr. Zarina Akhtar. The session was interactive she told the students about difference of one pager and synopsis during writing research proposal. Thesis writing steps were explained. All the parts of synopsis were discussed with examples.

The second session started at 11:00am and the Session speaker was Dr. Muhammad Sherbaz. The topic of the session was “Use of Chat Gpt for academic writing”. Dr. Sherbaz gave practical and legal view of using Chat gpt to the students. He explained students by practical examples and through answering the questions of the students. He also told how the students can search the latest articles on Chat Gpt.

Both the sessions were very informative and valuable for the students. Students found the correct way of writing synopsis as well as usage of Chat Gpt. At the end of the session, shield was presented to Dr. Zarina Akhtar and Certificates to the session speakers and the organizer students.

 
An Orientation Session for New Students & Sports Certificates Distribution at the Faculty of Education, IIU
An orientation for the newly enrolled students at the Faculty of Education, IIUI was organized on Feb, 29th 2024 at 10.00 am in the auditorium of the Faculty Block II in collaboration with Students Advisor Office, IIUI. Dr. Ghufran Ahmad Student Advisor IIUI, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar Dean, Faculty of Education participated as the guest of honors in the orientation session. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education, Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education and Ch. Khalid, Sports Officer, IIUI addressed the students during orientation session.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar highlighted the importance of developing positive attitude, disciplined life and practical contribution of youth for the development of society Dr. Ghufran Ahmad, Student Advisor briefed about building tolerance and confidence in the students. He further sensitized the students about the entrepreneur skills, need and importance time management.

Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, In-Charge Programs, briefed about learning from experiences of others and acquiring 21st century skills for grooming their personality. Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan was the stage secretary of the program. He spoke about importance of books reading and developing creative skills. Ch. Khalid briefed about the co-curricular activities at campus and encouraged the students to actively participate in the sports at IIUI.

At the end sports certificates were distributed among the students who actively participated in the sports gala 2023 at IIUI. Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan paid vote of thanks to the Students’ Advisor and Dean, Faculty of Education for sparing time for the orientation session.

 
WORKSHOP ON NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS FOR TEACHERS IN PAKISTAN
In a proactive initiative, the Department of Teacher Education at the Faculty of Education, MS Teacher Education, First Semester, organized a comprehensive workshop on National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPSTs). The event was held with the participation of students from the Education, Second Semester, under the supervision of Dr. Fouzia Ajmal.

Distinguished guests, Dr. Shamsa Aziz (Chairperson Department of Teacher Education), Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal (Incharge (Programs) Department of Teacher Education) and Dr. Zarina Akhtar (Assistant Professor) were invited to share their insights during the workshop.

This collaborative effort aimed to equip participants with a deep understanding of the National Professional Standards for Teachers, emphasizing their importance in shaping the future of teacher education. The event not only provided a platform for practical insights but also highlighted the commitment of the Department to enhance the quality of education through continuous learning and development.

The seminar was conducted on December 18, 2023 at Department of Teacher education, Female Campus, IIUI. The aim of the seminar was to explore the intersections and divergences in the pedagogical philosophies of Muslim and Western traditions, fostering a deeper understanding of cultural transmission in educational legacies. The proceedings started with the recitation and then formal presentations started. The atmosphere was interactive, with engaging discussions and insights shared by both presenters and attendees. Dr. Shamsa and Dr. Zafar Iqbal, graced the event. Their presence added scholarly weight to the occasion, reflecting the significance of the topic in the academic community. The MS students in attendance actively participated, posing thoughtful questions that enriched the discussions. Teachers appreciated the efforts of the organizers (PhD students) in putting together a well-structured and intellectually stimulating seminar. Seminar on ‘Pedagogical Models: Adapting Education to 21st Century Learners’
The PhD scholars, arranged a seminar titled “Pedagogical Models: Adapting Education to 21st Century Learners” at the Department of Teacher Education (Female Campus) on November 22, 2023. Distinguished Faculty members Dr. Humaira Akram, Dr. Fatima Alvi, Dr. Fatima Maqsood, and Dr. Fauzia Ajmal attended the seminar, while the audience consisted of female students pursuing MS Education at International Islamic University Islamabad. The principal aim of the Seminar was to scrutinize Pedagogical Models, examining their theoretical underpinnings and practical ramifications within both the global and Pakistani contexts. The presentations also aimed to extract insights conducive to the progression of the educational milieu in Pakistan. The proceedings of the Seminar commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Ms. Aqsa Bint-e-Zafar. The presentations unfolded with Ms. Tabassum Shairwani Khan’s discourse on ‘The Cognitive Model of Pedagogical Reasoning.’ Subsequently, Ms. Aqsa Bint-e-Zafar expounded on ‘Merrill’s Pedagogical Model,’ while Ms. Saadia Razzaq delved into the ‘Collaborative Model of Pedagogical Reasoning.’ Following this, Ms. Shumaila Aslam presented the ‘ASSURE Model,’ and Ms. Zul Ul Ane Fatima focused her deliberations on ‘Project-Based Learning Models.’ The scholars provided a comprehensive overview of these Pedagogical Models, offering meaningful suggestions for the implementation of these models within Pakistan’s educational framework. The seminar fostered an interactive atmosphere, with the presenters skillfully engaging the audience. The attendees posed insightful questions to the presenters, who adeptly addressed their queries. During the evaluation of the presentations, Dr. Fatima Batool and Dr. Humaira Akram acknowledged the students’ efforts and provided constructive feedback. In her concluding remarks, Dr. Humaira Akram summarized key insights derived from the Cognitive models, delivering encouraging and insightful comments. The seminar emerged as a highly enriching endeavor, yielding substantial benefits for both the presenters and the audience, fostering a mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge, ideas and insights.

The doctoral candidates from the Department of Teacher Education ( Faculty of Education) organized a seminar titled “Beyond Borders: A Global Dialogue on Education Transformation in Developing Nations” at the Dean’s Office, Male Campus IIUI. Professor Dr. N B Jumani, Vice President, IIUI, presided over the seminar, with Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr. Fatima Alvi, Dr. Zarina Akhtar, Dr. Fatima Maqsood, Dr. Zafar Iqbal, and Dr. Azhar Mehmood . The audience included students pursuing Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from both male and female campuses. The seminar’s primary aim was to compare education systems globally, seeking insights to enhance the educational landscape in Pakistan. The proceedings commenced with Ms. Shumaila Aslam’s analysis of Pakistan’s education system, followed by comparative analyses of education systems in China, India, Saudi Arabia, Botswana, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Bhutan by Ms. Tabassum Shairwani Khan, Ms. Aqsa Bint-e-Zafar, Ms. Sadia Razzaq, and Ms. Zul ul Ane Fatima, respectively. These scholars provided a comprehensive overview of the education systems in their respective countries and offered meaningful suggestions for improving Pakistan’s educational framework. Following the presentations, Prof. Dr. N B Jumani while evaluating the presentations, acknowledged the students’ endeavors and providing constructive feedback highlighting the principles of content selection, data presentation and slide preparation. He also underscored the significance of cognitive reasoning and an analytical approach in discussions. Other faculty members also shared valuable insights, contributing to the enrichment of both the presenters and future audiences. Dr. Fatima Maqsood, in her concluding remarks, summarized the key insights derived from the comparative analyses, fostering a collective encouragement for sustained scholarly pursuits in the realm of education transformation in developing nations.

 
Civic Engagement of the Students of Department of Educational Leadership and Management
In a groundbreaking initiative, students of School, Society and Teacher from the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, has organized a comprehensive drive to enhance civic engagement across diverse schools in the areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Female students have conducted various activities for the commitment to community involvement at fostering active citizenship among its students and faculty.

Through collaboration with local schools and educational outreach programs, prospective teachers were equipped with the knowledge and tools to instill civic responsibility. This initiative aims to create a ripple effect and promoting civic engagement in the broader community by teaching on various modules related to literacy to the early-years and primary-level students.

Furthermore, students of both sections arranged an exhibition to raise awareness and drive action towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event aimed not only to foster creativity but, also to inspire a commitment to sustainable practices among the university students. The exhibition was held at female campus featured a diverse array of projects addressing various SDGs set forth by the United Nations. Each presentation was a reflection of the students’ dedication and passion for creating meaningful change in their communities and beyond. Through the models students presented the innovative solutions, for reducing poverty, establishment of quality education, climate action etc.

Dr. Shamsa Aziz, (Chairperson, Department of Teacher Education), graced the event and underlined that, the exhibition not only provided a platform for students to demonstrate their academic aptitude but also highlighted their role as future leaders in sustainable development. Moreover, Dr. Muanzza Mahmood, (Incharge, Department of Leadership & Management), also visited the exhibition and mentioned that, committed to integrating sustainability into its curriculum and fostering a culture of innovation and social responsibility among its students. It was also visited by the faculty members and students of various programs.

The exhibition session was concluded with a sense of optimism and determination, as students and faculty alike endorsed their commitment to advancing the SDGs through education, innovation, and community engagement.

 
Seminar Titled “Islam and SDGs (Sustainable Developmental Goals) In Social Work Perspective”
On 21st May, a seminar titled “Islam and SDGs (Sustainable Developmental Goals) In Social Work Perspective” was organized by Department of Education Leadership and Management (DoELM), Faculty of Education, with collaboration of Department of Sociology (DoS), Faculty of Social Sciences in Auditorium Fatima Block, Female Campus, International Islamic University Islamabad. Focal persons of this seminar were Dr. Saima Yasmeen, Ms. Kanwal Ejaaz, and Ms. Aimen Saif, while the role of organizers was played by students of BS 4th (DoELM) and students of BS 5th (DoS) The motive of this seminar was to provide students with awareness about sustainable developmental goals in social work perspective relating Islam with it and encourage them to think big, enabling themselves to build such organizations that could operate on a national scale and provide humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable and needy segments of society. Its purpose was also to motivate students for participating in diverse range of activities aimed at providing relief and development services to the most deprived and marginalized communities in the country.

Chief Guest of this seminar was Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge, DoELM), Guest of Honor was Dr. Rabia Ali (Chairperson, DoS) and Guest Speakers were Dr. Nomair Hassan Madni; General Secretary of Al-Khidmat Foundation, Mr. Tauseef Khan; Founder President and Chief Executive Officer of PCF (Progressive Climate Foundation), and Dr. Daniyal Shahid; CEO of Kafalaat Welfare Trust. Faculty members of both departments were also invited to attend and endorse the seminar.

The seminar began with the recitation of Holy Quran and afterwards respected speakers were invited to the stage to deliver their powerful and motivational words to the students. Mr. Tauseef Khan started his speech with explaining the role of Islamic practices like Zakat and Sadaqah in achieving sustainable development goals: to alleviate poverty and hunger, & promote good health and quality education. Islam teaches environmental responsibility and conservation. He also quoted a hadith to remind audiences to conserve water, even it is in abundance. He stated that Islamic values are aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Faith and social work combine for a positive impact. He raised the motto to strive for a better world, guided by compassion.

Dr. Numair Hassan Madni, presented the concept of sustainable development goals with an Islamic perspective, by quoting verses from the Holy Quran. He highlighted the importance of serving humanity and showcased Al-Khidmat Foundation’s projects, including providing food, shelter, education, and healthcare to vulnerable communities. Dr. Madni’s speech emphasized the Islamic values of social work and services to mankind. He highlighted the foundation’s decades of service to marginalized communities.

Dr. Daniyal Shahid highlighted Kafalat Welfare Trust’s (KWT) initiatives in this seminar. He told that the trust’s programs have made a significant impact, including: supporting 59 individuals through the Rozgar Program, aiding 2,700 people through the Eid Drive, and providing food to 1,274 individuals through the Ramzan Ration Program. Additionally, KWT has distributed laptops to 24 students, treated 10,112 patients through free medical camps, and provided 3,665 bags of food to those in need. KWT’s efforts demonstrate its commitment to serving the community and improving lives.

Afterwards, Dr. Munazza Mahmood took the stage, delivering a heartfelt thank you speech to the guests. She expressed her gratitude for their presence and support. Dr. Munazza then turned her attention to the students, encouraging them to join the various trusts and be a part of their noble work. She inspired them to make a positive impact in their community. With passion and conviction, she urged the students to become part of Kafalat Welfare Trust’s and other foundations efforts to create a better world. Her words were met with applause and enthusiasm from the audience.

Dr. Rabia Ali emphasized the importance of social work, sharing her own experiences and initiatives. She highlighted the positive impact of social work on individuals and society. She expressed gratitude to the guest speakers, acknowledging their contributions and dedication. She encouraged the audience to get involved in social work, emphasizing its value and significance. Dr. Rabia Ali’s speech was inspiring and motivational, urging everyone to make a difference in their community. Her words left a lasting impact on the audience. At the end, souvenirs were given to chief guest, guest of honor, guest speakers and focal persons & group photo with main organizers was taken.

 
One Day Workshop title: Unlocking Your Voice: A Workshop on Effective Communication Skills Held on Thursday, 16th May, 2024
The 5th semester students of the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad, organized a one-day workshop titled “Unlocking Your Voice: A workshop on Effective Communication Skills” on Thursday, 16th May 2024. This event was part of their coursework for “Communication Skills.”

Dr. Fatima Maqsood, Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, was the focal person for this activity. The workshop was honored by the presence of Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Chairperson of the Department of Teacher Education, and Dr. Munazza Mahmood, Incharge of the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, as Chief Guests. Dr. Fatima Batool (Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education), Ms. Sumaira Batool (Teaching and Research Associate, Department of Educational Leadership and Management), and other female faculty members from both departments also attended the event.

The workshop began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. The workshop included five groups that conducted various activities aimed at improving communication skills among students:

The workshop featured various hands-on activities. One activity involved mock interview sessions to enhance students’ confidence, verbal articulation, and body language, with feedback provided to improve performance. Another activity, “Commercial Time,” had students create and present mock commercials, focusing on verbal communication, creativity, and persuasive language skills.

A “Picture Description (Story Writing)” exercise tasked students with writing stories based on given pictures to improve creative writing, imagination, and descriptive language, followed by feedback on their writing style and narrative structure. Activities on “Non-Verbal Communication and Active Listening” used role-playing to practice gestures, facial expressions, posture, and listening skills. Additionally, a “CV Writing” session taught students how to compose effective CVs, highlighting their skills and experiences, with practical sessions for drafting and peer review.
At the end of the event, the certificates distribution ceremony was held to appreciate and encouraging the participants. The workshop was a resounding success, with students gaining valuable skills and confidence in their communication abilities.

 
Punjab Cultural Stall Organized by the Faculty of Education Won First Prize in National Cultural Stall Competition

On 14th May, 2024 as the main segment of spring gala Punjab cultural stall was organized by Faculty of Education. Chief organizers (Focal Persons) of this activity were Dr. Fatima Batool (Focal person, Department of Teacher Education, DoTE), Ms. Sumaira Batool (Focal person, Department of Educational Leadership and Management, DoELM), and Dr. Fatima Maqsood (Assistant Professor, Department of Educational Leadership and Management). Among students, Syed Haram Raza from DoTE and Iqra Pervaiz from DoELM played the very effective role of lead organizers. Beisdes, 34 students from both departments actively played their energetic and appreciative role to make this event successful.

Chairperson, DoTE Dr. Shamsa Aziz and Incharge DoELM Dr. Munazza Mahmood and female faculty members of both departments grace this activity with their presence. To reflect the real culture, organizers of this activity arranged live multiple segments of Punjab living. Panaflexs, standee and charts were created to provide pictorial glimpses of punajb culture. First segment in this stall was related to the work and motivated kalam of Sufia Karam, two students played the role of Mian Muhmmad Bakhsh and Bullay Shah, and they uttered few lines from their kalam.
Legendary characters of Heer and Ranjha were presented.

A system of Panchait was there to resolve local conflicts. To represent the village culture, a corner of farms was presented with swing, wheat field, farmer and his wife, tractor with driver, and pigeons. Another segment was of Punjabi housewife working in Kitchen using traditional pottery, there was also a well and pots and pans hanging tree constructed by students.

A local wedding ceremony was represented by students, characters of local bride and groom, bride friends playing dholki, singing songs, and few were performing luddi with colorful dandiya sticks. A food stall was there with traditional food items such as Saag, Karhi Pakora, Kheer, Sohn Halwa, Makhan and Shakar, Achaar, Panjeeri, Zarda and Makai ki Rotti.
A cultural stall was there where wedding event related, crockery related, and fashion items related items.

Rector Female Campus, Prof. Dr. Samina Malik, her team, Dr. Sadia Saleem and her team along with other judges and guests visited the stall and appreciated the efforts and hard work of faculty n members and students.

On 15th May, 2024, a ceremony was organized to appreciate the efforts of focal persons and students and it was announced that Faculty of Education won first prize on arranging an impressive stall to represent Punjab culture. Focal persons of both departments pay their gratitude to all faculty members, students and staff members for their contributions in making this event successful and memorable.

 
DEPARTMENT OF THE TEACHER EDUCATION ORGANIZES PANEL DISCUSSION ON “EMPOWERING FUTURE: RIGHT TO EDUCATION VS. CHILD LABOUR”

The Department of Teacher Education in collaboration with Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a panel discussion to mark the Labour Day in which panelists and participants discussed the critical themes surrounding the rights of children to education and the urgent need to address the issue of child labor.

Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Chairperson Department of Teacher Education briefed about the main idea behind arranging the panel discussion. The Panelists included Dr. Tabassum Naz Director Schools Federal Directorate of Education, Islamabad, Ms. Nazneen Zehra Deputy Director (Planning) Basic Education Community Schools, Islamabad, Ms. Shumaila Aslam Principal Ghori Career School, Islamabad, Ms. Tabassum Shairwani Khan PhD Education Scholar, IIUI and Ms. Sana Naseer BECS School. The panel was moderated by Dr. Fouzia Ajmal.

Under the theme “Empowering Futures: Right to Education vs. Child Labour,” the discussion encompassed a wide range of topics, each shedding light on different dimensions of the issue. The panel unanimously agreed on the significance of education as a fundamental right for every child. They emphasized that access to education not only empowers individuals but also plays a vital role in shaping a prosperous society. Addressing the underlying socio-economic factors contributing to child labor was another focal point of the discussion, the panelists stressed the need for holistic approaches that tackle poverty, inequality, and lack of opportunities, which often force children into labor.

Panelists highlighted the pivotal role of teachers in eradicating child labor and promoting education. They emphasized the role of educators in creating inclusive and supportive learning environments that encourage children to stay in school and pursue their dreams. The main takeaways of the discourse included community involvement as a crucial factor in combating child labor. The panelists highlighted the importance of community partnerships and grassroots initiatives in identifying at-risk children and providing them with educational opportunities.

According to the organizing departments, the panel discussion served as a platform for stakeholders from academia, government, and civil society to exchange ideas, share best practices, and chart a course of action towards ensuring every child’s right to education.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean of the Faculty of Education, IIUI, commended the efforts of the Department of Teacher Education, Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Focal Person of the activity and students’ organizers (and reiterated the university’s commitment for promoting education as a tool for social transformation.

These individuals, often overlooked, play a pivotal role in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across the campus grounds.

Under the guidance of Ms. Rabia Mumtaz, a dedicated Teaching/Research Associate, the students meticulously planned and executed the event, showcasing their commitment to civic engagement and social responsibility. Dr. Munazza Mahmod, Incharge of ELM, commended the students for their enthusiastic participation and emphasized the importance of acknowledging the efforts of all individuals within the campus community.

The highlight of the event was the heartfelt act of presenting recognition badges to the sanitary workers, symbolizing the deep appreciation and respect felt towards them. Through this gesture, the students and faculty members aimed to convey that every role within the institution is valued and recognized.

The event wrapped up with a heartwarming gesture as students took the initiative to provide lunch for the sanitary workers. This act not only symbolized appreciation but also underscored the importance of acknowledging the relentless efforts of those who often go unnoticed in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards. It was a touching reminder of the invaluable contributions made by these dedicated individuals to the well-being of the campus community.

 
Seminar on Leadership in Islam: A Guide for Women in the Contemporary World
Students of MS, Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, organized a seminar titled as , Leadership in Islam: A Guide for Women in the Contemporary, under the supervision of Dr. Munazza Mahmood, (Assistant Professor, Dept. of ELM). Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, (Dean Faculty of Education) graced the event as chief guest. The guest speaker, Dr. Faryal Umbreen, (In-charge Dawah Centre for women), eloquently shared her profound wisdom and insights into the topic, leadership in Islam while emphasizing the pivotal role women can play as leaders. Drawing from the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions, she shared insightful and thought-provoking examples of exemplary leadership. She highlighted the crucial roles of women in society according to Islamic teachings. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, also stressed the importance of women’s leadership outlining essential qualities and attributes. Moreover, certificate ceremony was held, honoring the chief guest, guest speaker, and chief organizer with shields and certificates.

 
DEPARTMENT OF TEACHER EDUCATION, IIUI ORGANIZES WORKSHOP ON FORMATTING MASTERY

The Department of Teacher Education, Female Campus organized a workshop titled “Precision in Print: A Workshop on Formatting Mastery” which was conducted to address the need for hands-on practice and guidance on academic formatting standards specific to MS level assignments and research proposals. The objectives of the workshop were to familiarize MS students with academic standards, engage them in practical exercises, and provide a platform to address their challenges in formatting.

Dr. Saima Kanwal, Assistant Director, Office of the Rector IIUI, served as the resource person, leading the workshop with expertise and guidance. The workshop commenced with an introduction to the importance of adhering to formatting standards in academic writing, emphasizing professionalism and precision. Practical exercises were conducted, allowing students to apply formatting rules, styles, and citation methods commonly used in MS-level assignments and proposals. Dedicated time was allocated for students to ask questions and discuss common challenges they face in formatting their academic work.

The workshop on “Precision in Print: A Workshop on Formatting Mastery” provided MS students with valuable insights and practical skills essential for academic writing at the MS level. Through engaging activities and expert guidance from Dr. Saima Kanwal, participants gained confidence and proficiency in adhering to formatting standards. The event concluded successfully, leaving attendees better equipped to present their academic work with professionalism and precision.

Cultural Exhibition
Pakistan is home to a large number of ethnicities and cultural groups, which makes for an interesting and diverse national culture. Culture cannot be imposed from outside or learnt in educational institutions. It grows organically through demonstration. To represent the Pakistani culture, students (BS Education sixth semester) of the Department of Educational Leadership and Management enthusiastically arranged an exhibition to display vibrant cultures of Pakistan. Project was supervised by Ms. Saman Noor, (Course Instructor) under their course of Pakistan, culture and society. The event was featured by a variety of elements e.g, regional colorful dresses which reflects the colors of all provinces of Pakistan and presented the Pakistani culture in a beautiful way, the artistic jewelry , artwork and food stalls. It was a well-attended event by the chairpersons, in-charges and faculty members of Faculty of Education and students.

 
Seminar on Communication Skills
Department of Educational Leadership and Management, FoE, organized a seminar on Communication skills, as effective communication can deepen relations in personal life or professional life. Mr. Tajak Hussain, graced the event as resource person. He highlighted that communication is an essential process for human beings; good communication skills help us to interact, connect and transmit information in various ways. Moreover, he mentioned that purposes of communication skills are manifold and range from sharing knowledge to expressing emotions, establishing relationships, and solving problems. It builds a strong relationship and trust, fostering a positive learning environment. Dr. Shamsa Aziz, (Chairperson, Dept. of Teacher Education), also mentioned the significance of communication skills in respect of building relationships at workplace, establishing and maintaining relationships with peers, teachers and mentor. Dr. Azhar Mehmood (Chairperson, Dept. of ELM), in his vote of thanks, emphasized that good communication skills facilitates learning and understanding among teacher educators and prospective teachers.

 
ACCREDITATION VISIT FOR B.ED ELEMENTARY EDUCATION PROGRAM, DEPARTMENT OF TEACHER EDUCATION

The external evaluators’ team of National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE) comprising of Prof. Dr. Riffat un Nisa, Director Institute of Education and Research and Dr. Abida Nasreen, Chairperson, Department of Secondary Education, Institute of Education and Research University of the Punjab Lahore visited the Department of Teacher Education for the re-accreditation of B.Ed Elementary Education program.

In the orientation meeting Dr. Zarina Akhtar welcomed the team and briefed about the plan of the accreditation visit. Dr. Fouzia Ajmal gave a presentation about IIUI, Department of Teacher Education and B.Ed Elementary Education program. Dr. Shamsa Aziz thanked the participants and briefed the members about some activities of Department. Ms. Rubab Fatima Dy. Director (Acad & Exams) and Mr Asghar Ali A.D QAD were also present in orientation meeting.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, welcomed the evaluators’ team and provided insights various academic programs offered by the faculty.

The Secretary of NACTE, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, briefed the faculty members on the accreditation criteria and evaluation tools used by NACTE. The application of 10 different tools and observation of 152 indicators emphasize the thoroughness of the accreditation process.

The Faculty of Education is evidently dedicated to uplifting academic standards, as highlighted by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean Faculty of Education. The efforts of Department of Education especially the team working on different tasks in preparing NACTE documents including Dr. Zarina Akhtar, Dr Alina Raza, Dr Fouzia Ajmal, Dr Humaira Akram, Ms Raffiqa Nazli and Ms Sehrish Niazi were acknowledged and appreciated.

It’s commendable that during the evaluation process, the NACTE team visited various aspects, including interviews with Chairperson, teacher educators, prospective teachers, alumni, and supporting staff. The class observation and document analysis were remarkable activities of the accreditation.   The detailed evaluation of infrastructure including classrooms, offices, computer lab, gymnasium, medical center, students’ facilitation center and cafeteria indicates a comprehensive approach by NACTE to ensure that IIUI provides a high-quality learning environment supporting a positive and effective educational experience to prospective teachers. This comprehensive approach ensures a holistic assessment of the quality of teacher education programs.

Workshop on “Navigating Research Proposal”
Research proposal is a formal document or presentation that outlines a plan, idea, or project and seeks to persuade to effective contribution in knowledge. Keeping in view the significance of planning a research proposal, the Department of Educational Leadership and Management has organized a workshop on writing research proposal to acquaint research scholars with the techniques of effective research proposal writing. Workshop was attended by the research scholars of MS program and faculty members.

Dr. Munazza Mahmood, (Incharge, Department of ELM), graced the workshop as resource person, she clarified the multiple components of research proposal, (building research proposal methodology, utilization of available resources, one-pager, expected outcomes). She mentioned the significance of research proposal as a vital tool that can help scholars to understand, what works and why, and what are the short and long term implications , so right decisions and actions can help to deal with the unexpected by identifying and promotes improvements. Furthermore Ms. Shaista Yasir, (Ph. D) scholar, demonstrated objectives, writing literature review, formatting and citations. At, the end of session certificates were awarded to all the participants for acknowledgment.

 
13th BoF FoE IIUI held on March 06, 2024
The 13th Meeting of the Board of Faculty (BoF), Faculty of Education, International Islamic University, Islamabad, convened undre chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean FoE on Wednesday, March 06, 2024 in the Seminar Room of Faculty of Education, Faculty Block-I, Male Campus IIUI.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. N. B. Jumani, Professor, Department of Educational Leadership and Management, IIUI, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Javed Iqbal, Ex-Dean Faculty of Education, Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad (Expert), Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq Hussain, Professor (Rtd) Institute of Education and Research, Kohat University of Science and Technology, Kohat (Member), Dr. Shagufta Akhtar, Associate Professor/Director ORIC, Foundation University Islamabad (Member) along with Chairpersons of Departments, internal members and supervisors.

The meeting commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean Faculty of Education, IIUI, Chairman BoF, extended a warm welcome to the external experts and members. He expressed gratitude for their valuable contributions to the advancement of education at IIUI.

The meeting included discussions on the research proposals of PhD and MS scholars from the Department of Educational Leadership and Management and Department of Teacher Education.

The experts commented that the Faculty of Education at IIUI remains committed to fostering excellence in education and research as evident in the robust discussions and progress made during the 13th BoF meeting.

 
An Orientation Session for Visiting Teachers for Semester Spring-2024
Visiting teachers play an important role in achieving the goal of higher education. In each semester, visiting faculty is hired to fulfill the teaching requirements. A group of thirty teachers have been hired for the spring semester. An orientation session for the newly hired visiting teachers was organized by the Department of Educational Leadership and Management (ELM). Dr. Azhar Mahmood (Chairperson Department of ELM), welcomed the teachers and asked them to focus on quality education through use of best learning practices and appropriate instructional strategies. Furthermore, he highlighted the policy for the conduction of successful examination. Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge, Department of ELM),) highlighted that teachers need to implement systematic criteria to equip students with quality education from real world examples. Ms. Sumaira Batool, (Teaching Research Associate) briefed the teachers about course specification, attendance and assessment criteria of the Department of ELM. Ms. Naila Bashir (Program Coordinator) briefed about the requirements of program coordination office.

INT’L CONFERENCE ON WOMEN EMPOWERMENT ORGANIZED BY FACULTY OF EDUCATION COMMENCES AT IIUI

A three-day international conference organized by Faculty of Education of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) with collaboration of Higher Education Commission Pakistan (HEC) titled “Less Talk More Action: Changing the Course of Women’s Academic Leadership,” commenced here at Allama Iqbal Auditorium, Faisal Masjid Campus of the university.

The Faculty of Education at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) is hosting this international conference as part of the “Shattering the Glass Ceiling: Challenges and Opportunities for Women Academic Leaders in Pakistani Universities” project, funded by Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission.

Prof. Dr. Samina Malik, Rector, IIUI addressing the inauguration ceremony has said that the conference, titled “Less Talk More Action: Changing the Course of Women’s Academic Leadership,” is a significant initiative aimed at addressing the hurdles and possibilities that women leaders encounter in academia. It is pertinent to mention here that the conference chair Prof. Dr. Samina Malik, is also the Principal Investigator of this project.

On this occasion, Dr. Samina lauded significant role of scholars who are presenting their research papers in the significant conference as this conference is an opportunity for the youth as they will witness experts opinion while interacting with them the present challenges being faced by the women academic leaders in our society and globally.

Ms. Noor Amna Malik, Managing Director (MD) National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE) from Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, graced the event with her presence as Chief Guest in the inauguration session of the conference. Addressing the conference participants said that theme of the conference is a commitment to move beyond discussions and rhetoric, focusing on tangible steps to bring about meaningful change in the landscape of women’s academic leadership. Ms. Noor stressed to move forward with a collective approach and not to be gender biased specially in such environments where male and female are together at workplace.

Dr. Asma Mansoor, co-chair and co-principal investigator, briefed the perspective and significant features of the three days conference. She said that the conference is scheduled from October 17th to 19th, 2023, the conference will serve as a platform for scholars, researchers, and professionals to exchange insights and perspectives on the challenges and opportunities faced by women in academic leadership roles. She added that overarching goal is to stimulate discussions and collaborations that contribute to the advancement of gender equity and diversity in higher education institutions.

Over the course of three days, research papers will be presented, providing a comprehensive exploration of the issues at hand. The conference’s structure ensures a thorough examination of the theme, with sessions dedicated to different aspects of women’s academic leadership.

By fostering an environment conducive to knowledge-sharing and collaboration, the conference aims to generate actionable insights that can be implemented to overcome barriers and create more opportunities for women in academic leadership roles. This aligns with the broader goals of the project funded by the Higher Education Commission, which seeks to catalyze positive change and promote gender inclusivity within Pakistani universities.

Department of Educational Leadership and Management (ELM) organized an orientation session for visiting teachers appointed for semester fall 2023. The goal of the orientation session was to acquaint team of newly appointed teachers with the institution’s regulations and academic standards of the Department of ELM. Ms. Sumaira Batool, (Teaching Research Associate) briefed the teachers about exams, attendance and assessment strategies of the Department of ELM. Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge, Department of ELM), explained the requirements and elements of course specification. Dr. Azhar Mahmood (Chairperson Department of ELM), warmly welcomed the teachers and highlighted the role of teacher is to engage the students with specific knowledge, skills and significance of organizing time and activities in implementing the content and plan. Furthermore, he mentioned that visiting teachers are the worth of our Department. Dr. Zarina Akhtar , (Incharge Quality Development and Higher Studies) highlighted that teachers at higher education institutions need implementation of systematic criteria to attain the levels of quality. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar (Dean FoE) greeted the teachers and advised them that university education is not only gaining content knowledge but it should focus to prepare students to be independent, creative and critical in academic career. At the end, he welcomed the suggestions and acknowledged all the faculty members.

 
“A Dialogue on Role of National Accreditation Council” for Faculty Members Organized by Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education, IIUI
A Dialogue on Role of National Accreditation Council for faculty members was organized by Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education, IIUI on 6th October, 2023 at Seminar Room, Faculty of Education. The keynote speaker of the said program was Dr. Muhammad Khalid Mehmood, Secretary, NACTE. The major objective of the program was to enhance the vision of faculty members about the role of NACTE. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean, Faculty of Education, chaired the program while Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, In-Charge, Department of Teacher Education was the focal person in the said program. Dr. Muhammad Khalid Mehmood briefed about the role of NACTE in enhancing the quality of teacher education programs and accreditation standards.

Dr. Muhammad Khalid Mehmood comprehensively discussed the accreditation standards for teacher education and the research areas for the MS & Doctoral students. He also highlighted the tools of accreditation and the procedure of assessment of academic programs. At the end, faculty members raised the questions regarding role of NACTE and the session was concluded with a critical discussion on the existing and future Role of NACTE in enhancing the quality of teacher education programs. Dr. Muhammad Khalid Mehmood sensitized the faculty members/supervisors about the research areas identified by NACTE for MS and Doctoral research students in the field of education.

Orientation Session for Newly Enrolled Students in Faculty of Education
Faculty of Education (Female Campus), International Islamic University Islamabad, organized an orientation session for the Students of BS, B.Ed and Ph.D in the programs of Educational Leadership and Management and English Language Teaching. The session was attended by all faculty members and new students of the Faculty of Education. The orientation session was started with the Recitation of Holy Quran and National Anthem. Ms. Sumaira Batool (focal person activities) imparted the comprehensive instructions regarding rules and regulations of the University with reference to course registration process, attendance policy, grading criteria, scholarship resources and co-curricular activities.

Dr. Alina Raza (Incharge Academic Affairs DTE), delivered a detailed introduction of Faculty members of Department of Teacher Education.

Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge Programs ELM), warmly welcomed the new students and gave a brief introduction of faculty members in the Department of Educational Leadership and Management.

Orientation session was organized on 20 September 2023 by the Student Advisor, IIUI for the new enrolled students in Fall 2023 semester in BS, MS and PhD programs at faculty of Education, Male Campus, IIUI. Dr. Rizwan Aftab, Student Advisor addressed the new students about university disciple, rules and regulations and responsibilities of students while their stay at IIUI. Mr. Muhammad Rizwan, Sports Officer IIUI highlighted the need and importance of sports in the students’ life and the sports activities at IIUI. Mr. Naseer, Assistant Librarian Officer, IIUI briefed about the rules and regulations of Libraries of IIUI. Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan, Department of Teacher Education highlighted about learning the values and contributions of students for sustainable development in society. Dr. Muhammad Sufi Amin, Department of Educational Leadership and Management briefed the students to focus on learning and reading habits for successful academic career.

 
Training Workshop “Managing Supervision” Organized by Faculty of Education, IIUI
In alignment with the visionary leadership of the International Islamic University Islamabad and Higher Education Commission, Islamabad, the Faculty of Education (FoE), IIUI organized training workshop titled “Managing Supervision” on September 1, 2023 for the faculty members. All the faculty members of Faculty of Education ensured their presence in the training workshop.

Prof. Dr. Khalid Khurshid, Professor of Education at Bahauddin Zakria University Multan was the resource person of the training program. Prof. Dr. Khurshid elaborated the strategies for managing supervision of MS & Doctoral dissertations. Prof. Dr. Khalid Khurshid highlighted the effective usage of tools such as “Spinbot,” and “iThenticate.” while supervising the dissertations. Prof. Khurshid discussed the evidence-based strategies to stop fake academic writings.

Faculty of Education, IIUI initiated series of “HEC Approved Supervisor Capacity Building Seminars” for faculty members.

As per instructions of the prestigious Leadership of International Islamic University Islamabad and Higher Education Commission, Islamabad, a seminar was conducted at Faculty of Education, IIUI on August 23, 2023 for the extensive training of the faculty members of Faculty of Education to enhance their academic potential for supervising MS and Doctoral dissertations.
Dr. Azhar Mehmood, Chairman, Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education, IIUI served as the resource person for the training. Dr. Azhar Mehmood is the Master Trainer of Higher Education Commission Islamabad for training the faculty members to strengthen their capacity for supervising MS and Doctoral dissetations. Dr. Azhar Mehmood got training at Higher Education Commission Islamabad that was conducted with the collaboration of British Council and Coventry University, United Kingdom. All the faculty members of Faculty of Education ensured their presence. The training was started with the recitation of verses of Holy Quran. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, In-Charge, Department of Teacher education, IIUI was the focal person for the training program. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal introduced the aims and objectives of the training. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean of the Faculty of Education, chaired the training session and highlighted the need and importance of this training for the capacity building of faculty members in supervising MS and Doctoral dissertations. Dr. Mehmood’s sessions spanned a range of crucial areas including i. Strategies to address casual behavior among students, ii. The importance and methodology of SWOT analysis, iii. Effective conflict resolution techniques, iv. Addressing trust deficit within educational institutions, v. The role and significance of doctors’ advisory committees.

The faculty members shared their experiences of supervising and elaborated the problems and challenges while supervising the dissertations.

This series of seminars is a comprehensive and significant step to address the problems and challenges in supervising the MS and Doctoral dissertations. At the end of training session, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar appreciated the efforts of Faculty of Education for organizing such a beneficial training program for the faculty members.

Name of the speaker was Dr. Zafar Iqbal (Assistant Professor / Incharge (Male / Female Programs) / Incharge Academics, DDL, IIU). The seminar aimed to highlight the crucial role that universities play in shaping and enhancing the professional development of teachers, and how this impacts the overall quality of education.

PhD Scholar Mr. Ummer Ayub was the convenor & host of the seminar. The seminar began with the recitation of Holy Quran. Name of the speaker was Dr. Zafar Iqbal (Assistant Professor / Incharge (Male / Female Programs) / Incharge Academics, DDL, IIU) Dr. Zafar Iqbal, aimed to explore the significance of effective communication between parents and teachers, as well as the strategies employed in the university’s admission campaign.

Name of the speaker was Dr. Zafar Iqbal (Assistant Professor / Incharge (Male / Female Programs) / Incharge Academics, DDL, IIU) and Dr. Zarina Akhter (In-charge Quality Development & Higher Studies). Seminar on Digital Learning Fundamentals at Faculty of Education, IIUI
Ms. Rubina Syed Usman Ghani delivered lecture on digital learning fundamentals to faculty members of Faculty of Education on August 4, 2023. She highlighted the innovations in digital learning that are significant in the teaching learning process. She briefed about the uses of PBWorks to facilitate the students in learning. Postdoctorate Completion
Three Faculty members of the Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Faculty of Education Dr. Munazza Mahmood, Dr. Shazia Naureen and Dr. Sheikh Tariq completed their postdoctoral fellowship from Islamic Research Institute (IRI) of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).This is the first that three faculty members of the same faculty have accomplished their respective research in given time frame. Faculty of Education is the only faculty having maximum number of Postdoc.

The Faculty of Education and Directorate of Distance Learning at the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), organized a certificate distribution ceremony to honor the dedicated committee members who made the International Conference on Transition of Traditional Universities to Online Mode (ICTTUOM) a resounding success. The conference, held at Allama Iqbal Auditorium on May 10-11, 2023, brought together experts, researchers, and educators to discuss the transition of traditional universities to online education.

Addressing the audience, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, the Vice President of Research and Enterprise (R&E), IIUI and (Academics), IIUI, commended the organizing committee for their efforts in successfully hosting the conference. He emphasized the importance of appreciating the entire team and encouraged the continuation of this tradition to maintain the motivation of employees. Furthermore, he stressed the need to develop interventions based on the conference’s recommendations and proposed sending a copy of the conference report to relevant sections of the Government of Pakistan for consideration in the formulation of policies related to online education.

The conference report was then presented to Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed by the conference co-chairs. This report will serve as a valuable resource to inform future initiatives and policy decisions regarding the transition of traditional universities to online mode.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, the Dean of the Faculty of Education and co-chair of the conference, extended a warm welcome to the guests and expressed his appreciation for the support provided by various sections of the university. He acknowledged the significant contributions from the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC), Protocol and Public Relations, Transport, Purchase and Store, Finance, Audit, IT, Security, and IT departments.

Dr. Sarwar speaking during the certificate distribution ceremony added that the successful conclusion of the International Conference on Transition of Traditional Universities to Online Mode (ICTTUOM) is the matchless effort of the entire team and supporting teams from university.

In the closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Asmat Ullah Khan, the Director of the Directorate of Distance Learning, expressed his gratitude to the organizing teams for their remarkable efforts. He highlighted the utmost importance of online education in the Pakistani education system, underscoring the need for continued advancements in this field.

Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, the focal person of the conference speaking during the closing ceremony said that the organizing team comprising the Directorate of Distance Learning and the Faculty of Education worked tirelessly to ensure the conference’s success. The event was made possible through collaboration with the Iqbal Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD), IIUI and received support from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), and various sections of the university.

During the ceremony, Dr. Fouzia Ajmal provided a comprehensive overview of the conference and highlighted its key recommendations. FACULTY OF EDUCATION, IIUI ORGANIZED SEMINAR ON EDUCATIONAL POLICIES
Seminar on Educational Policies was held at Allama Iqbal Auditorium, Faisal Masjid campus, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). It was organized by the Faculty of Education (FOE), IIUI in collaboration with the Department of Leadership and Management, Department of Teacher Education & Oxford University Press. The purpose of this seminar was to highlight the importance of educational policies in Pakistan. During the seminar the rationale for the education policy and its planning process were discussed.

The seminar was attended by Prof. Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, Vice President Administration and Finance IIUI, Dr. Nasir Mehmood Acting Vice Chancellor AIOU, Dr. Shahid Saddiqui, Dean of Social Sciences at NUML, Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean Faculty of Education, Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Chairperson Department of Teacher Education (FOE), IIUI, Dr. Salma Nazar Khan FJWU, Dr. Wajeeha Shahid NUML, senior faculty Members, large number of male and female students and guests.

Speakers of the seminar highlighted the importance of educational policies in Pakistan and emphasized on critical analyses of the gap that exists in implementation of educational policies.

Prof. Dr. Nasir Mehmood, Acting Vice Chancellor AIOU, emphasized on book reading to enhance knowledge about educational policies and to find a way to implement educational policies in educational context to become a successful nation.

Addressing the seminar participants Dr. Jumani emphasized the study on educational policies in Pakistan to identify the gap in knowledge about educational policies, projections and their implementation. He highlighted that the young researchers will have an opportunity in gaining insightful knowledge on educational policies through this Seminar. This will help young researchers conduct authentic and genuine research on educational policies.

Dr. Shahid Saddiqui, Shared his experience about what grabbed his attention regarding policies. He addressed that he analyzed all the policies and trends in his books as there was no collection of educational policies and analysis. In order to fill this gap Dr. Saddiqui analyzed all the educational policies and current educational scenarios in his book Educational Policies in Pakistan: Politics, Projections & Practices to provide reliable and realistic information, easily accessible to researchers.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean Faculty of Education, IIUI highlighted that every concept of education should be linked with educational policies. He said that through proper implementation of educational policies we will be able to fulfill the national needs.

Dr. Fouzia Ajmal talked on important aspects of educational policies to enhance knowledge about all educational policies and to find solutions to all educational problems.

Dr. Salma Nazar Khan highlighted the dimensions of education by analyzing educational policies and emphasized on the concept of Islamization and modernization and also emphasized that participants will be able to find answers to critical queries regarding educational policies and their implementation. She also talked about the credibility of data and emphasized its importance for research purposes.

Dr. Wajeeha Shahid, Associate Professor NUML, highlighted the importance of critical analysis of educational policies in order to provide direction for professional development and personal development.

At the end Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Chairperson Department of Teacher Education (FOE), IIUI highlighted the importance of policies, shared her experiences on this occasion and thanked all the participants of Seminar.

 
Cultural Diversity of Pakistan
The cultural event is a testament of our commitment to fostering a multicultural environment and promoting national understanding among our students during their course of Pakistan Studies. Cultural day was arranged by BS (ELM) 4th Semester to celebrate the vibrant cultural diversity of the country, a under the supervision of Ms. Aneela Alam Gill.

Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Chairperson Department of Teacher Education, Dr. Munazza Mahmood, Dr. Zarina Akhter, Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Dr. Humera Akram and Ms. Sumaira Batool graced the occasion. They lauded the efforts of the students and congratulated Ms. Aneela Alam Gill on successfully arranging the event. A large number of students and departmental staff also attended the event.

Traditional attires, mouthwatering cuisines and traditional literature from around the country were displayed. It was a great opportunity for students to embrace their heritage, share their unique customs, and celebrate the beauty of diversity.

They came together as a community to appreciate and honor our cultural diversities, build bridges of understanding, and celebrate the invaluable contributions of every culture.

Round Table Talk on Sustainable Educational Development
A round table talk on Sustainable Educational Development was held at Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI), Islamabad in collaboration with Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) to review the final report of a series of Grand National Dialogue held on the 17th of October 2022, 1st of November 2022, and the 21st of November 2022. Senator Engr. Rukhsana Zubari, Member Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education & Professional Training was chief guest. Ambassador Dr. Raza Muhammad, HI (M), President of IPRI chaired the event. Brig (R) Dr. Raashid Wali Jangua, Director Research, IPRI moderated the sessions. Prof. Dr. N.B. Jumani, Acting President headed the IIUI delegation. While addressing the forum Dr. Jumani added that there is need to promote quality education and capacity building of teachers, particularly in far flung areas of the county.

Former Ambassador Asif Durrani, Prof. Dr. Haroona Jatoi, Former Joint Educational Advisor, Curriculum Wing, Dr. Mariam Chaughtai, Prof. Dr. Samina Malik, Vice President, Female Campus, IIUI were included among experts. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean, Faculty of Education presented the recommendations of the series of dialogue. Dr. Azhar Mahamood, Chairman, Department of ELM, Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Chairperson Department of Teacher Education, Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Incharge, Department of Teacher Education. Dr. Munazza Mahmood, Dr. Zarina Akhatar and Dr. Fouzia Ajmal were included in the IIUI delegation. A large number of students, researchers and media persons also attended the roundtable talk. All speakers focused on personality development and grooming of the students, highlighted the vitality of empowerment of youth by making them more responsible and critical thinkers. Speakers highlighted that we need to teach ethical norms, etiquettes, co-existence and tolerance to our youth. Honourable Ambassador Dr. Raza Muhammad, HI(M), President, IPRI appreciated the active role IIUI in arranging the Grand National Dialogue on Sustainable Educational Development and wished for further collaboration with Faculty of Education, IIUI.

 
A COMPREHENSIVE LEGISLATIVE FRAMEWORK FOR INDIGENOUS DIGITAL CULTURE STRESSED IN FACULTY OF EDUCATION’S CONFERENCE

Participants of a two day International conference on “transition of traditional universities to online mode” organized by Directorate of Distance Learning Faculty of Education of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) have called for developing a comprehensive legislative framework for indigenous digital culture. They opined that teachers should be fully equipped with the digital skills to create collaborative learning environment in online distance learning mod of education.

In this conference that was held here at the Faisal Masjid Campus, the participants recommended that using the best of traditional and online instruction to develop a better future for higher education, four level competencies are important for media literacy including media knowledge, media analysis, media critics and media creation. The conference experts and speakers also agreed that universities need a three-pronged approach across strategy, policy and pedagogy to identify the right hybrid model for their institution and students. They suggested to combine outcome based education with e- learning and observe students behaviors and their interaction styles using Learning Management System , and provide insights on their progress.

In the conference, participants addressed the emerging issues and challenges in the distance education and e-learning. Renowned national and international academicians and researchers expressed views on the ultimate possibilities and guidelines for the maximum role of distance education and e-learning in the national development.

More than 300 researchers, keynote speakers, educationists, experts are participating and it will witness around 70 papers from the presenters hailing from Austria, USA, Lebanon and Pakistan who will participate in conference physically and through online mode.

The participants discussed adaptation to new technologies ,best practices in online learning , blended learning , communication challenges in e- learning during covid-19 , e-learning strategies, evaluation in online learning, future of online learning for universities, learning management systems, needs and challenges of online learning and research models & paradigms in online learning.

Addressing the concluding ceremony as Chief Guest, Dr. Shahid Mehmood Baig, Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) said that after the pandemic, the education has a new landscape and online teaching and learning has emerged as the leading mode of learning. He said there are challenges in the country when we talk about ODL that can be catered and it can pave the way towards easy and quality education. He elaborated the scope and programs of PSF and offered maximum support for such initiatives and conferences. He also called for increasing the spending on the science and technology mentioning that things have started to get better through support of government. He stressed upon launching competitive research programs hoping that HEC and universities will keep contributing in best manner in this regards.

The concluding ceremony of the conference was also attended by Acting President, Professor Dr Nabi Bux Jumani.

Professor Dr. Samina Malik, Vice President Female Campus said in her address that education makes the fate of nations, the transition in education because of technology has changed the landscape of learning. She added that distance learning, blended learning and online modes have proved that online mode is one of the best models for teaching and learning. She opined that future belongs to the online learning, yet we still have a long way to go as there are many challenges in the country to acquire, learn and implement these technologies. She said there are many challenges such as accessibility of internet. She also highlighted the importance of assessment factor in the teaching and learning in the online modes.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean Faculty of Education thanked the IIUI management and collaborators for the support in organizing the two day conference. He also highlighted the importance of transition towards ODL. Dr. Asmatullah Khan, Director Directorate of Distance Learning, Dean computing IIUI in his vote of thanks hailed the cooperation of the collaborators and thanked for active participation of national and international speakers and participants. Earlier, Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, focal person presented the report and recommendation of the conference. She told that more than 30 universities are partcipated in this conference through participants and speakers.

Addressing the conference, Acting President, Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani said the distance and open learning is one of the leading modes of education across the world and recent episode of pandemic has identified the need and utilization of online educational and learning globally. He shared IIUI’s response to the Covid wave telling that university through its distance learning platform continued uninterrupted education. He said the upcoming national ODL policy shall pave way for flourishing of ODL system and most of the universities shall start work on it after notification of ODL policy. He hailed the organizers of the conference for arranging a valuable conference on an important topic. He said at this is the age of online and distance mode of education and shrinking resources demand adoption of online distance learning.

Dean Faculty of education, Dr. Muhammad sarwar said that transition of the traditional universities to online mode is helpful in addressing the issues of education being faced by developing countries. He added it takes education to the door step addressing the issues of teachers with a better quality. Dr Sarwar maintained that the online education has bridged the distances between the students and the educational institutions. He elaborated that the conference aims to explore challenges and recommendations to solve the issues in the transition towards online mode.

Director General Quality Assurance Directorate, Nasir Shah said that HEC is working on ODL policy that has been prepared in consultation with the academia of Pakistan. He said soon this policy shall be in place after approval from Higher Education Commission. He stressed upon the universities to focus on transformation of technology. Dr. Asmatullah Khan, Director Directorate of Distance Learning, Dean computing IIUI discussed advancements in technology and its utilization for education. He said in the coming age ODL will be the first choice of the universities. He also apprised of the efforts of universities for promotion of its online courses.

Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, being the focal person apprised of the themes and details of the conference. She told that more than 30 universities are participating in this conference through participants and speakers. She said entire world is focusing its attention on digital transformation, innovation and the use of technology in the education sector. She added Higher Education Commission is helping universities to adopt smart classrooms, blended learning mode of education and hybrid learning systems.

 
SEMINAR ON “QUALITATIVE DATA ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES AND SOFTWARES” ORGANIZED BY DEPARTMENT OF TEACHER EDUCATION, FACULTY OF EDUCATION, FEMALE CAMPUS, IIU
Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education organized a seminar on “Qualitative data analysis techniques and softwares” on Monday, May 08, 2023 from 10:00am to 12:00pm in seminar room of Maryam Block, Female Campus, IIUI. Dr Fatima Batool, Dr Fatima Maqsood and Dr Munazza Mahmood participated in seminar. Dr Fatima Batool and Dr Fatima Maqsood were the resource persons of the aforesaid one-day seminar. PHD scholars also participated in the seminar.

MS Scholars were the program host and faculty members of other departments also joined the seminar. The seminar began at 10:00am with the recitation of the Holy Quran. The blessing of reciting the Holy Quran was achieved by MS Scholar Mehwish Bashir.

Dr Zarina Akhtar, Assistant Professor of teacher education presented the introduction of “qualitative data analysis techniques and softwares”.

Dr. Fatima Batool, (adjunct Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education), introduced about research and its types by probing questions through brainstorming among students and engages us in an activity. She briefly explained about data collection methods and methods of qualitative data analysis, its approaches, its characteristics, analyzing qualitative data process, coding process, its limitations and affordances and about its various softwares such as QDAS, MAXQDA, and Nvivo.

Dr. Fatima Maqsood, (Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education), effectively explains the whole process to use Nvivo software for QDAAfter the valuable lecture of guest speakers the Moderators of MS and PHD scholars asked questions to explore more queries about “qualitative data analysis techniques and softwares”.

In closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge Department of Educational Leadership and Management, Female Campus, IIUI) Addressed by Chief Guest. She thanked and appreciated to organizing team of MS and teacher, Dr Zarina Akhtar (Assistant Professor of Teacher Education) for organizing such a valuable and informative seminar for students which not only supports them during their MS program but throughout the career.

GUEST LECTURE ON NACTE AND TEACHER EDUCATION, ORGANIZED BY DEPARTMENT OF TEACHER EDUCATION, FACULTY OF EDUCATION, IIUI
Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education organized a seminar on “National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education in Pakistan (NACTE) and Teacher Education” on Friday May 05, 2023 in Auditorium Fatima Tuz Zahra Block Female Campus, IIUI. The session began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by MS Scholar international MS Scholar Maha Faihan Alotaibi followed by National Anthem.

Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Assistant Professor (focal Person of the activity) presented the introduction of the guest lecture.

Dr. Khalid Mehmood, Secretary NACTE was the Guest Speaker of seminar. Firstly he shared his valuable life experience with students and motivated the students for teacher education. He introduced about accreditation councils in Pakistan in general and National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education in particular along with details of its tools, and their role in their respective fields. The aim of the NACTE is to serve and promote excellence in teacher education programs. He explained about accreditation standards and operationalization of standards, their elements and its quality indicators. He further mentioned that NACTE has trained the evaluators to assess the programs and collect data and for this purpose they built soft wares to analyze data to assess the area of weakness.

After the valuable lecture of guest speaker the question answer session was held where queries of participants were addressed. Dr. Azhar Mehmood, Chairperson Department of Educational Leadership and Management addressed the audience mentioning his remarks about NACTE and motivated the students to work hard to sustain their role as prospective teachers. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amir, Director ORIC mentioned the importance of accreditation councils for students that they must enrolled themselves in such programs which are accredited. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean Faculty of Education appreciated the Chairperson and Department for taking the initiative and organizing much needed session.

Prof. Dr. Samina Malik (Vice President, Female Campus, IIUI) was the Chief guest of the event. She appreciated the organization of the event and said that the Departments should strive to produce competent teachers having capabilities and skills in using Modern Learning Tools Learner Centered content & Learner designed experiences, Blended learning and using different ways to documenting learning and Assessing for deeper understanding and competency.

One day Training Workshop on Software Zotero
Faculty of Education organized one day training workshop on Software Zotero for their Faculty members. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean Faculty of Education Highlighted the importance and use of Zotero software in research. Dr. Muhammad Ahmad Munir, Head of Quranic Studies at Islamic Research Institute, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) was the resource person of the workshop. Dr. Sheikh Tariq was the Focal person of the workshop. Dr. Sheikh Tariq briefed the audience about the Zotero software. All the faculty members participated in the workshop and highly appreciated the content of the workshop. At the end Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Chairperson Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education thanked the Resource Person and the participants.


 
Webinar on Chat GPT at Faculty of Education, Male Campus, IIUI
Webinar on Chat GPT was organized at Faculty of Education, Male campus on 10 April 2023 in the seminar room of Faculty of Education. Professor Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean, Faculty of Education, Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Inchage, Programs, Department of Teacher Education, and Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan, Department of Teacher education participated in the webinar. BS, MA and MS Education students also participated in the webinar. The focus of the webinar was on the usage and advantages of Chat GPT. It was highlighted by the speakers that Chat GPT can be programmed to adapt to each student’s learning needs. It can identify areas where a student needs help and provide tailored feedback and support. It was discussed that It does not require additional staff, and the technology can be easily integrated into existing learning management systems.

 
One day National “Induction of Values in Education Systems”
A one-day seminar on “Induction of Values in Education Systems” was organized by the Department of Education and Leadership, Faculty of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. PhD Scholar Mr. Amir Waleed was the program host and Prof. Dr. Allah Baksh Malik was the guest and keynote speaker of the aforesaid one-day seminar. The seminar began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. The blessing of reciting the Holy Quran was achieved by PhD Scholar Mr. Sadoor Ahmed. Naat Rasool Maqbool (PBUH) was recited by PhD Scholar Mr. Syed Ghazanfer Abbas. Prof. Dr. Shamsa Aziz (Chairperson, Department of Teacher Education) presented the opening remarks. She gave special thanks to the guest speaker and was grateful to the organizers. Further, she said that teachers are role models for all of us. It’s a great privilege for us to arrange such seminars on ethical considerations in research, which are urgently needed.

Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar would like to enlighten the audience with his views. He Paid thanks and was grateful to the guest speaker for spending his precious moments with us and take benefit from his time with us. He focused on values that values are the only component that differentiates between Human and animals. Values are like software that produces results from different outputs. Due to values students and teachers both belong to us. Further He said that values are to teach everyone, and we should practice values. If there are no values, there will be nothing. PhD scholars Mr. Abdullah, Mr. Anwar ul Haq & Mr. Malik Safeer Ejaz also gave the lecture regarding ethics in research.

The Guest Speaker “Dr. Allah Bakhsh Malik” presented his valuable thoughts and said that having a service as faculty member of faculty of education IIU is my family. He said that all teaching methodologies are revealed by Allah to Holy Prophet (PBUH). The attention of the students, which we practice in lesson planning are also revealed in The Holy Quran. The content of knowledge are also revealed by Allah. He further stated that wisdom is a value by which we call students. Knowledge starts with values (Hikmah) by Allah. The best knowledge is that which is infused in your personality. Best lecture is a value.

In closing remarks, Dr. Azhar Mehmood (Chairperson Department of Educational Leadership and Management) thanked guest speakers and faculty members and appreciated the efforts of Ph.D. scholars for organizing such a wonderful seminar.

In the end, certificates were presented to the organizing committee.

 
Role Play “ I am a Teacher” organized by Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education
A competition on Role Play “I Am a Teacher” was organized by the Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education, IIUI. The event started with recitation of Quran and was led by national anthem. Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Focal Person of Students’ Activities of the Department started with the introduction which was followed by Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Chairperson of DTE with motivation and advices. The judges of the competition included Dr. Syeda Koukab & Ms. Misbah Muzaffar Federal College of Education, H-9 Islamabad and Dr Mamoona Ismail from Department of Psychology, IIUI. Contestants displayed their utmost efforts and presented remarkable acts as teachers. Different groups showed different roles of teachers. Late after, the judges announced their results and encouraged the young students and the contestants. Each judge appreciated the effort time and work out on display. In the end Dr. Shamsa Aziz motivated the students to partake in more activities arranged by the faculty. She emphasized on the creativity and well development of the upcoming youth and wished the best of luck.

 

 

 
Seminar on CV Writing and Job Interview
The goal and purpose of CV writing is to introduce the qualification and skills to the employer and it is a first chance to make good impression on a potential employer. By, considering the significance of this informational document Department of Educational Leadership and Management, organized a seminar for the students of last semester of BS and MS level. Seminar was arranged by Ms. Rabia Mumtaz (Teaching/Research Associate, Deptt. of ELM). The main objective of this seminar was to assist graduate and under grads job seekers to learn and apply the tactics, techniques necessary for a successful professional interview.

Dr. Arshia Mukhtar (Resource person, Faculty of Management Sciences, IIUI), briefed the students about chief aspects of CV and resume, she highlighted that CV is a personal companion till you have secured the job that you seek and its importance cannot be overstated. She also highlighted the aspects of writing ideal CV and techniques to avoid the common mistakes. Moreover, practice of some specific questions can make the interview easy. At the end of session, Dr. Munazza Mahmood,( Incharge), mentioned that, through this type of sessions students get self-confidence and learn how to maximize abilities to convert a job interview into a job offer.

 
Workshop on “APA Reference Style”
Department of Educational Leadership & Management (female campus) International Islamic University organized a workshop on “APA Referencing Style Seventh Edition”. APA is a method and formatting of referencing work in papers and manuscript. Dr. Munazza Mahmood, Incharge, (Department of Educational Leadership Management) served as an organizer and a resource person. She delivered comprehensive lecture on APA referencing style for in-text citations and bibliographic citations in research. She highlighted all the instructions used for referencing the articles, books, reports, internet resources followed by APA (7th edition). Interactive session was also follow-up with activities on referencing style. Research students of MS, PhD and faculty members of the Department of ELM and TE attended the seminar. She highlighted that the clarity of writing along with a precise citation format works to establish your credibility, and it reflects the extent of your research as well as the novelty of original ideas. Determination of resource person was acknowledged by the faculty members and they said that, the significant contribution of the resource person in delivering detailed lecture on APA referencing style emphasizes on honest acknowledgment of sources used and its publication.

 
International Webinar, Faculty of Education was held on 14 March, 2023
International Webinar was organized at Faculty of Education on 14th February 2023. Emeritous Professor Ian Menter, Department of Teacher Education, University of Oxford, UK addressed on , “By their teacher education ye shall know them’ Trends in qualitative research”. He highlighted the anthropological perspective on teacher education in qualitative and comparative research. Dr. Ismail MD.Zain, from Malaysia Institute of Teacher Education, briefed about the multidimensional aspects of instructional design in educational technology. Professor Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean, Faculty of Education, IIUI was the chief guest. Worthy Dean appreciated efforts of Department of Teacher Education for arranging such comprehesive program. Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Chairperson, Department of Teacher Education, IIUI, Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Incharge Academic Affairs, Department of Teacher Education, Female campus. Dr. Azhar Mehmood, Chairperson, Department of Educational Leadership and Management, IIUI, Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, Associate Professor, Department of Teacher Education and Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Incharge, Department of Teacher Education (Male campus), IIUI, were the guest of honors. Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan was the focal person for the webinar. A number PhD, MS and BS students of Faculty of Education participated in the webinar.

 

 
Serious attention on research is key to explore the knowledge … Dr. Zarina Akhtar
Dr. Zarina Akhtar has said that focus on the research is imperative to meet the upcoming challenges in all walks of life. Students may develop their interest in research to explore and expand the knowledge in their respective areas. She has stated these comments while addressing in a seminar on data analysis and interpretation, organized by Quality Development sub Committee Field Training Unit Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education, International Islamic University here today.
Dr. Zarina Akhtar while explaining the type of data measurement scales, and relevant data analysis technique to the students and faculty members said that proper understanding and processing of research tips should be the prime interest of the students. She discussed various aspects of data analysis and interpretation with practical examples.

MS and PhD students of Faculty of Education and faculty members participated in the seminar. At the end brief answer questioning session was held in which students were provided opportunities to share their queries and concerns related to the research. Students expressed their keen interest in the seminar and desired that such kind of seminars should be organized regularly for the benefits of the students.

 
Library Orientation Session for Newly Enrolled Students in Faculty of Education
An orientation session has been organized by the Faculty of Education in Auditorium Fatima-tuz-Zahra block Female Campus. Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, Incharge Academic affairs Faculty of Education, briefed the students about the significance of library resources. Ms. Haleema Sadia, librarian and Ms. Naghmana extensively guided the students about the resources and facilities in the libraries of the International Islamic University Islamabad. The students discussed their concerns and queries regarding library schedule and regulations. Ms. Sumaira Batool, Focal Person (Activities) at Department of Educational Leadership & Management thanked the team members of library for their enriched briefing to the students.

The 4th meeting of Board of Faculty, Faculty of Education was held on February 27, 2023. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean Faculty of Education chaired the meeting which was attended by external experts including Prof. Dr. Muhammad Javed Iqbal, Ex-Dean Faculty of Education, Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Fazal-ur-Rehman, Professor/Chairman Department of Early Childhood Education, Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq Hussain, Professor Institute of Education and Research, Kohat University of Science and Technology, Kohat and Dr. Shafugta Akhtar, Associate Professor/Director ORIC, Foundation University Islamabad. The Chairpersons of both Departments (ELM & TE) and other members also attended the meeting. Scheme of Studies of newly developed programs including Postdoc Educational Leadership and Management, MS Educational Leadership and Management, MS Teacher Education, BS in Education with English Language Teaching, BS in Education with Educational Leadership and Management were discussed and approved.

The Dean and the experts appreciated the hard work of the Chairpersons and committees and Incharge Academic Affairs of both Departments for presenting the scheme of studies.

 
Training Session on Course Specification
Course specification is a written document which outlines objectives, content assessment methods, clear guidelines to the course instructors about the course objectives and learning outcome the course content helping in achieving learning outcomes, contribution and effectiveness of the overall program. Keeping in view the significance of these components, Department of Educational Leadership & Management in collaboration with Department of Teacher Education organized a training session for visiting teachers on their assigned courses course specification for semester Spring-2023 in Seminar Room Hazrat Marium, Block. Dr. Fouzia Ajmal (Assitant Professor, Department of Teacher Education) acquainted the participants with relevant elements e.g, mode of instructions, contact hours, course assessment strategies with alignment of program and course learning outcomes.

 
Orientation Session for Newly Enrolled Students in Faculty of Education
Faculty of Education (Female Campus), International Islamic University Islamabad, organized an orientation session for the newly enrolled students of BS, B.ED and MS Education. The orientation session was started with the Recitation of Holy Quran and National Anthem. Dr. Alina Raza (Incharge Academic Affairs DoTE) delivered a detailed introduction of IIUI and highlighted various academic activities (Programs, Conferences, Seminars , Workshops, Journals and Magazine) owned by the FoE. The session was attended by all faculty members and new students of the Faculty of Education.

Ms. Sumaira Batool (focal person activities) imparted the comprehensive instructions about rules and regulations of the University with reference to course registration process, attendance policy, grading criteria, scholarship resources and co-curricular activities. She encouraged the students for their maximum participation in healthy activities for effective personality development.

Dr. Munazza Mahmood (Incharge Program Department of ELM) warmly welcomed the new students and gave a brief introduction of the faculty members of the Faculty of Education. Additionally, Dr. Shazia Naureen (Incharge Academic Affairs ELM) emphasized on the development of moral values, character building, sense of loyalty and honesty in the students.

Dr. Shamsa Aziz, (Chairperson Department of Teacher Education) advised students to set high personal and academic standards for optimal growth in new journey. She encouraged the newly enrolled students to take advantage of their stay at IIUI, as one of the world’s premier international institutions.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar (Dean Faculty of Education) graced the session with his concluding remarks that, Education is a lifelong pursuit which can have a significant impact on the present and future of students. He emphasized that when students invest in education it can change their lives and provide better career opportunities. He wished newly admitted students for bright future ahead and appreciated the faculty members and students for organizing the meaningful session.

Orientation for the new students at Faculty of Education was held on 14th February 2023. Professor Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean Faculty of Education, warmly welcomed the new students. The worthy Dean motivated the students to actively participate the academic activities during their stay at IIUI. He briefed that students success is the success of the teachers. Dr. Riwan Aftab, Student Advisor, IIUI briefed about the co curricular activities and the responsibilities of the Student Advisor Office, IIUI. Dr. Azhar Mehmood, Chairperson, Department of Educational Leadership and Management highlighted the academic worth of faculty memebrs at Faculty of Education and the need and importance of Education. Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, Associate Professor addressed about the active role of students for sustainable development. He appreciated the students for their choice of admission at IIUI. Dr. Sheikh Tariq Mehmood, Assistant Professor ( Education) briefed about the personality development of students and role of education. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal ( Incharge-Academic Affairs, Male campus) highlighted the responsibilities of the students. Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan said that students should be loyal and sincere with their study, institutions and society.

 

 
Mr. Fazl Hakim Doctoral Defense at Faculty of Education
Mr. Fazl Hakim successfully defended his final viva voce examination on 24th January 2023 at Faculty of Education in the supervision of Professor. Dr.Samina Malik and Professor Dr. N.B.Jumani. Prof.Dr.Brig® Allah Bakh Malik and Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Chaudhary were the external exminars. Professor. Dr. N.B.Jumani, Acting President, IIUI, Dr. Azhar Mehmood, Chairperson, Department of Educational Leadership and Management and all faculty members of Faculty of Education attended the Viva Voce Examination. The examiners appreciated the research work of Mr.Fazl Hakim and announced him successful.

The meeting of the 1st Board of Studies of the Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education was held on 29th December 2022 at 10.00 am in Faculty of Education seminar room Faculty Block-I, Male Campus. Dr. Shamsa Aziz, Convener Board of Studies/Chairperson, Department of Teacher Education chaired the meeting. The meeting started with the recitation of the Holy Quran and welcoming remarks. Dr. Shamsa Aziz congratulated all for the successful commencement of the 1st Board of studies of the Department of Teacher Education and expressed gratitude for the presence of the external experts, supervisors and members of the Board.
