Mr. A.K. Brohi
Tenure as Rector IIUI: Nov. 1980 to August 1982

Allah Bukhsh Karim Bukhsh Brohi was a Pakistani politician and lawyer. He originated from Shikarpur in Sindh. He was the first partner, and mentor of famous Indian lawyer Ram Jethmalani as acknowledged in his authorized biography. Brohi served briefly as AttorneyGeneral for Pakistan besides Sharifuddin Pirzada who served as Attorney General during most of General Zia-ul-Haq regime. A.K. Brohi also served for a while as Minister of Law and Justice in General Zia-ul-Haqregime in the late 1970s.

Mr. Muhammad Ali Khan Hoti
Tenure as Rector IIUI August 1982 to February 1983

Nawabzada Muhammad Ali Khan Hoti was born in 1922 in Hoti area of Mardan. He got his early education in Germany and later graduated from a college in Lahore. He remained an active member of the Freedom Movement during his student life. Nawabzada Hoti was elected member of the East Pakistan Assembly in 1965.

He also worked as federal minister for health and education. He was elected a member of the Senate in 1985 and again in 1988 and was also elected leader of the house.

Dr. Muhammad Afzal
Tenure as Rector IIUI: 11-04-1985`to 10-04-1990

Dr. Muhammad Afzal served as Rector IIUI during April 1985- April 1990.

Justice Muhammad Afzal Zaullah
Tenure as Rector IIUI: 17-04-1990 to 30-11-1993

Mohammed Afzal Zullah (was born on April 19, 1928, in Bijnial, Mandrah, Gujar Khan, District Rawalpindi. He graduated in 1948 from the University of Punjab with a degree in Arts. In 1950, he received the degree in Law from Punjab University Lahore. He started practicing law in Sahiwal in 1950. He was appointed as Additional Judge of the West Pakistan High Court in May 1968; he became permanent Judge of the High Court in March 1970.

He was elevated to the Supreme Court in 1979. In the same year he became member of Shariat Appellate Bench, Supreme Court of Pakistan. He became the Chairman of the Bench in 1982. He acted as the Chief Justice from March 4 to 7, 1984. Justice Zullah became the Chief Justice of Pakistan from January 1, 1990, to March 19, 1993. He also remained a Member Syndicate, at the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, Member Board of Studies in Law University of Multan, Member Board of Trustees Islamic University Islamabad and a Member Selection Board Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad.

Malik Mairaj Khalid
Tenure as Rector IIUI: 16-08-1994 to 01-06-2000

Malik Meraj Khalid was a Pakistani advocate, left wing politician and Marxist philosopher who served as the Caretaker prime minister of Pakistan from November 1996 until February 1997. He was educated at Islamia College, Lahore and gained an LLB degree in 1944, from Punjab University Law College, Lahore, followed by an associate degree in public works. In 1948, he began to practice law. He was elected to the Provincial Assembly of West Pakistan for the first time in 1965. After the execution of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in April 1979, he was nominated member of the PPP’s Central Committee, but he eventually resigned from this position in January 1988. After once more successfully returning to the National Assembly in 1988, he was once again appointed as Speaker of the National Assembly in 1988. However, he lost the subsequent elections in 1993, and remained aloof from politics for some time. During this period of solitude, he served as the Rector of International Islamic University in Islamabad.

Prof. Ehsan Rasheed
Tenure as Rector IIUI: 21-08-2000 to 20-10-2000

Prof Rashid Ahmad Siddiqui, Dr Ehsan was a brilliant student of Aligarh University, where he also taught for a few years as lecturer after doing his master’s in economics. He took a doctorate degree from the University of Bonn on Joseph Schumpeter’s Theory of Innovation in 1956.

After coming to Pakistan, he was appointed reader at Karachi University and later as head of the Economics Department. In 1970, Dr Ehsan Rashid laid the foundation of Applied Economics Research Institute and was made its first director. In 1976 he was posted as Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi. As the vice chancellor, he struggled to turn the university into an autonomous institution by pleading for less interference in the academic affairs of the university. When he saw he could not resist these interferences, he resigned his post.

He was a widely read man and was proficient in Persian and English as well as Urdu. In 1980 he became a visiting professor at Harvard University for a year and after returning from Harvard he was sent to Jordan as ambassador of Pakistan, where he served the country for over four years. He also remained a member of the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, Chairman of the Pakistan Economists and Bankers Committee of Islamic Ideology Council. Later in 1988 he was appointed chairman of the Pakistan Islamization Commission. His last appointment was as Rector of Islamic University, Islamabad.

Justice (ret) Khalil ur Rehman Khan
Tenure as Rector IIUI: 25-11-2000 to 24-11-2005

Justice (R) Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan has served as Chairman on the Shariah Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and has been the Rector of the International Islamic University, Islamabad. He also has an extensive reading of Fiqh ul Mamlat & Shariah Principles. In addition, he is the former Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court and has also been the Chairman of the Religious Board for Mudarabas. Justice (R) Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan has also served on the Shariah Board of State Bank of Pakistan and Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan. He has been Chairman, Shariah Board, Munich-Re, Re-Takaful Company, Malaysia.

Dr. Manzoor Ahmad
Tenure as Rector IIUI 09-03-2006 to 21-02-2009

Dr. Manzoor Ahmad, served as Rector, of the International Islamic University, Islamabad and a Member Council of Islamic Ideology, is one of the foremost intellectuals and educationists of Pakistan. A Ph.D. from London University in Philosophy, he has had a distinguished career as a Professor of Philosophy and Dean of, the Faculty of Arts at the University of Karachi, Vice Chancellor of the Hamdard University Karachi (twice), Visiting Professor at several U.S. Universities, Member, Search Committees for Vice-Chancellors, Chairman of the Social Science Research Council of HEC, Member of the Syndicates and Boards of several Universities, author of five books and about 100 research articles, published in national and international journals. He has represented Pakistan at the Foreign Minister’s Conference of OIC (1980), Pakistan and Southwest Asia Security Conference Washington (1982), and OICs National Hijra Chairmen Committees (Makkah 1979). His distinguished career spans over 45 years of dedicated and devoted service to the cause of scholarship and education in Pakistan. He, therefore, deserves to be conferred the honour of Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Public Service) by the President of Pakistan.

Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik
Tenure as Rector IIUI: 21-02-2009 to 2011

Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik is one of the most prominent literary figures of the country. He carries 44 years of teaching and research experience and has taught at Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad; Columbia University, New York; University of Heidelberg and Humboldt University, Berlin Germany and Saint Petersburg University, Russia. He also served as Chairman of the National Language Authority which is an autonomous institution established to support the advancement and promotion of Urdu. He has authored and edited a number of books and research articles. He is a member of advisory and governing boards of a number of educational and literary organizations and universities. He has been awarded with star of excellence (Sitarae-Imtiaz) by the Government of Pakistan in recognition of his services in the field of literature.

Prof Masoom Yasinzai
Tenure as Rector IIUI: 2011 to 08-10-2018, 26-10-2018 to 25-10-22

Dr. Masoom has served one tenure each as Vice-Chancellor, Balochistan University and the country’s top University, i.e. Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad and two terms as Rector, IIUI. He is the author of 150 research publications in top international science journals and has also contributed chapters in international publications/encyclopedias. He spent 30 years in the University of Balochistan as Professor, Dean and Vice Chancellor of that premier University of the Province and no doubt played a key role in the establishment of science & scientific activities in that Province. In recognition of his academic achievements and research contributions, he has received many honors and awards including Ibn-Al-Hythum Gold Medal & prize, 1995, senior Fulbright fellowship 1993-94, professorial position at the age of 37 only; young scientist award 1998; Raziuddine siddique gold medal & prize 1998. In 1998 the Prime Minister of Pakistan appointed him as a member Pakistan atomic energy council which was further extended for two three years’ term in 2001 and 2004, notified in Govt. of Pakistan gazetteer. In recognition of his services to the cause of education at the University level., the President of Pakistan awarded him Aizaz-i-Fazeelat in the year 1999. He has also received the best University teacher award in the year 2002. The Ministry of Science & technology has declared him a national Ph.D supervisor.

In 2009, based on his achievements in Science & Technology, he is awarded with Sitara-iImtiaz. In 2012, Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai is elected as Fellow, Pakistan Academy of Sciences, in fact the first fellow from Balochistan.

Prof. Dr. Samina Malik
Tenure as Rector IIUI: 24-08-2023 – November 2024

Prof. Dr. Samina Malik is a distinguished academic leader and a visionary educator. Her academic journey is marked by Post-Doctorate from Coventry University, UK which laid the foundation for a prolific academic career, during which she has become a leading voice in the field of education.

Prof. Malik’s academic contributions are extensive and impactful. She has supervised 23 PhD and 56 MS graduates contributing to the expansion of knowledge in education. Her research output is equally impressive, with 75 published research articles and around a dozen national and international research projects. These works reflect her deep engagement with critical educational issues and her ability to bridge the gap between theoretical exploration and practical application.

As an editor and contributor to several prestigious academic journals, Prof. Malik has played a key role in shaping the discourse on education. Her editorial leadership highlights her commitment to advancing the field and supporting the dissemination of innovative research. Prof. Malik is a recognized leader with a strong track record in educational administration. She has served on various administrative levels such as the Vice President (Female Campus), Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences. Her leadership style is characterized by strategic vision, ethical governance, and a deep commitment to inclusivity and academic freedom, which extends beyond the academic field into the realm of professional development and international collaboration. Her involvement in the European Commission Erasmus+ Programme is a testament to her commitment to fostering global partnerships and promoting cross-cultural exchange. Her dedication to leadership development is further evidenced by her participation in the Women Leadership Program by the US Embassy.

Recognized for her exceptional contributions, Prof. Malik has received numerous awards, including the Best University Teacher Award (2014) and the Best Research Paper Award (2016) from the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
