DCS & SE, IIUI: RESEARCH SCHOLAR MS FAREEHA ANWAR DEFENDS HER PHD DISSERTATION

Ms Fareeha Anwar a scholar of Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering (DCS & SE), Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences, FBAS, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) defended her Ph.D thesis successfully on Thursday, January 31st, 2019 in faculty seminar room of FBAS, IIUI. The title of the thesis is “Online Urdu Handwritten Text Recognition for Mobile Devices Using Intelligent Techniques”. She has completed her research work under supervision of Dr. Ayyaz Hussain and co supervisor, Dr. Syed Afaq Hussain, while thesis was examined by two well known external examiners namely Professor Dr. Waseem Shehzad (NUCES FAST) and Professor Dr. Muhammad Zubair (Ripha International University Islamabad Campus).

The work in the thesis was quite applicable and useful in nature. She has contributed towards hand written urdu text recognition for mobile devices using fuzzy logic and vector quantification based techniques. The techniques proposed useful in natural language understanding, machine translations, automatic dramatizations, sentiment analysis, text classification and many more for national language of Pakistan.

It is pertinent to mention here that the work in the thesis will significantly improve the facilities to work with urdu text and it can be commercialized. As per policy of the university, the student will be supported and encouraged to commercialize her work through incubation centre.
