IIUI DELEGATION HOLDS SEMINAR ON IQBAL’S THOUGHTS IN MOROCCO

A high level International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) delegation headed by the varsity President Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh visited  University of Sedi Muhammed bin Abadullah Fas, Morocco where it met with Moroccan varsity’s top leadership and also participated in a seminar.

IIUI delegation was comprised of IIUI President, Dr. Al-Draiweesh, IRD Executive Director Dr. Husn ul Amin and Advisor to the President on International Affairs Dr Ashraf Abdul Rafea.

IIUI delegation was received by the President of the Fas University Prof Rizwan Murabit, Vice President Dr Khadija Al Safi, and Deans of various faculties. Dr Rizwan Mratib welcoming the IIUI delegation extended his gratitude over the arrival of the delegation at their campus.

He also brief about the Fez University, its historical significance, strength, faculty and students. IIUI President Dr Rizwan for warm welcome and also briefed on IIUI history, goals, objectives and future  plans.

He apprised about the number of students enrolled, strengths of departments and academic faculties . He urged for collaboration of universities to promote pea ce and moderation in the world.

IIUI President also delivered a detailed lecture on Iqbal’s thoughts and Philosophy of Khudi. He shed light on his poetry and also discussed his  message for unity of Muslims. He said that  Iqbal’s teachings proactively encourage us to learn from Islam which is based on Quran and Sunnah. He added that Iqbal called upon Muslims to revive legacy of knowledge.

 He also elaborated Iqbal’s philosophy of Khudi and urged upon Muslim youth to focus on self respect and self reliance. IIUI President opined that moderation is the most vital  attribute to be followed by Muslims in future.

Dr Husnul Amin also delivered a talk on Iqbal’s monumental work “Reconstruction of Religious thought in Islam”, its historical background, the main themes discussed in this book and how are these relevant for us today. Dr Amin also stressed on the need for academic and political freedoms so that new intellectual and social developments can be imagined in Muslim societies. At the end of his speech, he recited some of Iqbals verses and presented brief summary of these verses. The audience was mesmerized by these verses of Iqbal.

At the end, the faculty and students actively participated in the Q&A session and several important questions and comments were shared.

Meanwhile, A draft of MoU between IIUI and Sid Muhammad b. Abdullah University Fez was signed by both Presidents. The MoU mentions several exchange programs between various department of both Universities. The IRD will also benefit from some of the esteemed scholars of Fez university in future by inviting them for key lectures.
