TRAINING COURSE CONCLUDES AT SHARIA ACADEMY, DR. AL-DRAIWEESH CALLS FOR MUSLIM UNITY

A three month long training program for Mufties organized by the Shariah Academy of the International Islamic university (IIU) concluded here at Faisal Masjid campus of the university.
The course was attended by 35 Mufties across the country including 5 officials of Ministry of Religious Affairs Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The participants were given various topics for discussion to cover significant points of the course including Islamic economics, computer, objectives of Shariah, and principles of Fiqh.
The concluding ceremony was presided over by the President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh. In his address, Dr. Al-Draiweesh stressed that Ulema and Mufties have responsibility to forge unity among the ranks of Muslims and emphasized on them to promote brotherhood. He was of the view that Ulema and Khutba must be aware of contemporary challenges and they should provide solution in the light of teachings of Islam.
Dr. Sohail Hassan, Director Dawah Academy said in his remarks that Ulema must solve issues with the help of research and keeping in mind the Islamic teachings.
“ Shariah Academy is keen to create a network of learning across the Muslim world by polishing the skills of pivotal figures of societies including Muslim scholars” said Dr. Muhammad Munir, Director Shariah academy. He added that the academy is working on an MoU of bilateral cooperation with a German institution which will help in broadening the vision of trainee participants of the academy.
The event was also addressed by Dr. Abdul Hai Abro and Dr. Habib ur Rehman of IIUI. At the end, course completion certificates were distributed among the participants by the IIUI President.

 

FACULTY OF ARABIC (FEMALE) ORGANIZES “FIRST ARABIC QUIZ COMPETITION”
STUDENTS OF IIUI SCHOOLS FROM TWIN CITIES PARTICIPATE

Faculty of Arabic Female Campus International Islamic University Islamabad organised “First Arabic Quiz Competition” in which more 100 students from more than 20 IIUI Schools of twin cities participated.

The competition was divided into junior, senior team and individual categories in which “ALHUDHUD Al-ARABI” title was also awarded accordingly.

Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, Vice President Academics IIUI, graced the ceremony as chief guest, while Acting Director Female Campus Dr. Amna Mehmood, Dr. Zaiton Begum, Chairman Department of Arabic Dr. Aliya, Student Advisor Female Dr. Najeeba Arif, faculty members and students also attended.

In junior category IIUI School Ghuori Town Campus secured first position, while E 11 Campus stood second and F11 Campus was on third position. In senior category IIUI School Adayla Road Campus Rawalpindi stood fist, while Gulzar Qaud Campus second and Gulraiz Campus got third position. Usman Ahmed from IIUI School Ghouri Town Campus and Rafia Khursheed Gulzar-e-Qaud Campus and Maria Akbar titled “ALHUDHUD Al-ARABI” in the competition. The students were very enthusiastic when they arrived in university and Female Campus filled up with hustle & bustle. While addressing the students Dr. Bashir Khan said a bright future is associated with young blood of the country.

He advised the students that they must obey the teachings of Islam and respect the teachers as to get success in life. Dr. Bashir further urged students and teachers to present fine moral character as Islam stresses and teaches of moralities. He also encouraged the students and appreciated teachers for preparation and lauded the department on organizing such a beautiful competition. Dr. Aliya also addressed the ceremony and tanked the guests for their support and participants to make the event successful.

GERMAN ACADEMICIANS CALL ON RECTOR IIUI, AGREE TO LAUNCH JOINT ACADEMIC VENTURES

German Academicians Including Dr. Ullrich Gunther from Senior Expert Services Germany and Dr. Lars Bergmeyer Country Director German Academic and Exchange Service (DAAD) Islamabad called on Dr. Muhammad Masoon Yasinzai, Rector International Islamic University, Islamabad.

During the meeting they discussed different matters of mutual interest to initiate new academic programs and to develop scholarship linkages with German universities and institutions. On the occasion, Dr. Abdul Hameed Director ORIC, Mr. Awais Ijaz Khan Deputy Dean FMS and Dr. Imran Khan Chairperson CIRBS IIUI were also present. In the meeting, German experts briefed about German scholarships programs and the way forward to develop educational relations with German institutions. They were of the view that German universities and institutions are very much interested to initiate joint academic ventures with Pakistani universities. They said that Pakistan is developing rapidly in the field of education and German educational institutions along companies are very much interested in starting a joint academics and research based programs with Pakistani universities.

German experts said that research supervisor would welcome Pakistani students for assistance in their research papers and other educational projects. They said German universities has a broad range to offer scholarships, joint research activities Post Doc in different disciplines for Pakistani students. Dr. Masoom said Islamic University is deeply interested to initiate particularly split degree programs and joint research and scientific projects with German universities including seminars, international conferences an d symposiums. He said that IIUI is unique and finest example of co-existence, brotherhood and provides peaceful learning environment to students in campus. Rector IIUI said Higher Education Commission of Pakistan is paying full attention higher education to facilitate students and free access to international research journals is one of remarkable facilities.

 

DR. N. B. JUMANI BECOMES MEMBER OF THE HEC COMMITTEE

Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani Dean Faculty of Social Sciences/ Director, Directorate of Distance Education, IIU International Islamic University Islamabad has become a member of Higher Education Commission’s Committee that deals Online/Virtual/Distance Learning Degree Programs in Pakistan.

The Higher Education Commission Pakistan has constituted a committee for the universities of Pakistan to formulate the Distance Education/Virtual Education policy. Dr. Jumani, has been appointed as a member of the committee among The committee will be chaired by Dr. Arshad Ali, Rector, National Textile University, Faisalabad. Moreover, Dr. Bilal Zaka, Director Virtual Campus, COMSATS and Prof. Dr. N. B. Jumani will be the members of the committee. The committee will finalize the policy document and cast final guidelines on Distance Education, E-Learning and Virtual Education in Pakistan.

DR. NAJEEBA ARIF’S COLLECTION OF POETRY “MA’ANI SY ZAYDA” PUBLISHED

Dr. Najeeba Arif, Students Advisor (Female) and Chairperson Department of Urdu international Islamic University Islamabad has published the collection of her Urdu poetry under the title Ma’āni se Ziyāda (معانی سے زیادہ).

The book was launched in a ceremony held with titled “Dialogue on Pakistani Literature” organized by Mumtaz Mufti Trust in Alhamra Arts Council, Lahore.

Mr. Justice R Jawwad S. Khawaja, Former Chief Justice of Pakistan and Dr. Qasim Bughio Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters were the chief guests of the event. Mrs. Bano Qudsia, an eminent writer, chaired the program, while renowned literary figures, celebrities, writers, poets and intellectuals, including Mas’ud Ash’ar, Asghar Nadim Sayyad, Baba Muhammad Yahya Khan, Salma Awan, Sughra Sadaf, Amina Mufti and Uxi Mufti were the panelists of discussion.

The ceremony was also attended by large number of renowned poets, writers, intellectuals and literary figures which was hosted by prominent TV anchor Nur-al Hassan. Sarwat Muhyuddin, a well known illustrious poet, writer and scholar read a paper on Dr. Najeeba’s book and appreciated her poetry generously.

FACULTY OF LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE: CALLS FOR POST-DOC PROPOSALS

Faculty members holding PhD degree serving in Departments of English and Politics & IR are required to submit their research proposals for award of 6-month Post-doc fellowships at University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), USA. The last date for submission of research proposals in soft and hard form to Dr Munawar Iqbal Ahmed, Co-Chairman steering committee IIUI-UNCW Academic Partnership Programme, is November 30, 2015. IIUI, CIRBS ORGANIZES TWO DAY WORKSHOP AT UNIVERSITY OF BONN, GERMANY

Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences, International Islamic University Islamabad organized two day workshop titled “Inter-disciplinary Workshop on Research and Curriculum Development in Pakistan” at University of Bonn, Germany. The aim of the workshop was to promote cooperation and initiate joint research and exchange activities with German Universities and CIRBS, IIUI.

The heads/representatives from German funding agencies such as German Academic and Exchange Service (DAAD), German Research Foundation (DFG) and Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AVH) attended the workshop. Prof. Dr. Jens Leon (INRES), Prof. Matihias Winiger (Ex-Rector University of Bonn), Head of Centre for Development (ZIF) and representatives from funding programs at University of Bonn also attended the workshop. Dr. Imran Khan Assistant Prof, CIRBS, introduced International Islamic University Islamabad and presented the objectives and future vision of CIRBS which has recently been established. All the participants greatly appreciated the concept of interdisciplinary research and lauded the establishment of CIRBS at IIUI.

German academicians also expressed their willingness to support joint research proposals. The participants discussed funding opportunities available for research between Germany and Pakistani scientist/universities. The German funding agencies and academicians from Universities concluded to extend every possible help for mutual projects with CIRBS and IIUI. Dr. Imran Khan also proposed to initiate exchange program for CIRBS students. The University of Bonn Germany assured to initiate a training program for PhD students IIUI via financial support of DAAD and DFG.

The second day of workshop was held at Centre for Development (ZIF) an Interdisciplinary centre for research at Bonn, Germany. Dr. Imran Khan briefed the administrative and academic staff of ZIF about, IIUI and CIRBS. ZIF agreed to work on projects of mutual interest on interdisciplinary topics in Natural Sciences. Director ZIF also invited delegation from CIRBS to discuss promising exchange program.

DEPARTMENT OF URDU FEMALE CAMPUS TO HOLD ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

Bazam-e-Urdu, Department of Urdu Female Campus, International Islamic University, Islamabad is going hold essay writing competition among female students of universities. Students who desired to participate in the competition get registered themselves earliest to 30th November in room number of 10 Department of Urdu.

The competition will be held on Thursday 3rd of December at 11:30 am at Auditorium of Fatim ut Zahara Block. The title of the article will be given on hour before the competition which will be will be evaluated on the basis of content, style and comprehensions. The students who will get positions will be given prizes and certificates.

INNOVATION: CENTRAL LIBRARY LAUNCHES E-THESES DATABASE

The Central Library, International Islamic University Islamabad has developed and launched its Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) database, a digital repository of theses and dissertations produced by the university researchers and scholars. Dr. Muhammad Tahir Mansoori Vice President Higher Studies & Research IIUI was chief guest of launching ceremony and inaugurated the database. The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Sher Nowrooz Khan Chief Librarian and other library officials.

In his address, Dr. Mansoori appreciated this valuable service with the hope that it will help the scholars and researchers throughout the globe to benefit from the research produced by IIUI. He also congratulated the Chief Librarian and his team on successful completion of this project. The IIUI e-Theses database can be accessed at the following link: http://theses.iiu.edu.pk:8002

It is an open access digital repository which aims to provide quick and easy access to the text/matter contained in theses for the convenience of researchers and scholars all over the world.

IIUI HOLDS SEMINAR ON ROLE OF RELIGIOUS LEADERSHIP IN FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM

Comprehensive narrative be established to deal violent elements, say participants

Speakers of a seminar here at International Islamic university, Islamabad (IIUI) agreed that religious scholars can play significant role in inhibiting terrorist and extremist tendencies and there is a dire need to adopt a clear narrative against the violent elements who are destroying the peace and stability of world.

The seminar titled “The Role of Religious Leadership in Fight against Terrorism and Rejection of Sectarianism” was organized by the university at its Faisal Masjid campus which was presided over by Dr Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsin Al-Turki, General Secretary Muslim World League (MWL).

The event was also attended by Raja Zafar ul haq, Leader of the house in Senate, Maulana Sami ul Haq, Director Maktaba Tu Dawa Abu Saad Muhammad bin Saad Al-Doussri, Director General Rabta Aalame-e-Islami Pakistan Muhamad Abduho Ateen, Cultural Attaché of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Dr Haza Al-Ghamdi, diplomats of Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and other countries, while IIUI Rector Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh were also present in the seminar.

“Muslims facing injustice especially in Palestine” said Raja Zafar ul Haq while urging for joint efforts for protection of Muslims. He said that Kingdom of Saudi Arabia must be lauded for its efforts for protection of Muslim. “ KSA measures in this regard are being supported by entire Muslim world and particularly by Pakistan” he said.

“People, who know less about Islam, associate it with violent attitudes, which is in appropriate” said MWL General Secretary. He added that educational insinuations such as IIUI are of vital importance to create awareness among the masses about Islam’s true message. Dr Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsin urged the students and Muslim communities to adopt the attitude of research. He lauded support of Pakistani and Saudi governments for character building of the students and efforts for dissemination of Islam’s message of peace.

Rector IIUI said on the occasion that university has been producing scholars of various disciplines with added advantage of Islamic teachings for three decades. He added the university is focused on producing moderate personalities with a vision of Islam’s message of tranquilit. “ students of 45 countries acquiring quality education in serene educational milieu” he told.

“Dr. Al-Draiweesh urged for joint efforts for devising comprehensive stratigies for image building of Muslim countries while stressing that negative propaganda against Islam be exposed and world must be introduced about true teachings of Islam . “ Muslim Ummah, its religion and culture is unjustly accused of terrorism and any effort to correct this perception is not taken seriously and the role of Muslims in international co-operation, peace and global stability is ignored” Said IIUI President.

The seminar emphasized the significance of strengthening the relationship between the Muslim scholars and the society at large specifically the youth. The scholars, Muslim delegates and speakers of the seminar recommended establishing channels for communication and continuous dialogue with the male and female university students and other training organizations on topics related to terrorism and extremism. The participants also suggested revision of the teaching and educational methodologies in the light of Islamic creed, and finding way to empower the educational organizations in Islamic societies.

Scholars, researchers and academicians from Pakistan and other countries who participated in the seminar presented working papers dealing with various aspects and angles of the main topic.

 

DR ABDULLAH BIN ABDULMOHSIN AL-TURKI INAUGURATES ARABIC COURSE FOR CHINESE STUDENTS

A 5-week long Arabic Learning Course for Chinese students of International Islamic University (IIU) commenced here at Faisal Masjid campus of the university.

The course has been launched by the Faculty of Arabic of the university with the cooperation of the Muslim World League (MWL) which was inaugurated by the General Secretary MWL Dr Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsin Al-Turki.

The inaugural ceremony of the course was also attended by the Director Maktaba Tu Dawa Abu Saad Muhammad bin Saad Al-Doussri, Director General Rabta Aalame-e-Islami Pakistan Muhamad Abduho Ateen, Cultural Attaché of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Dr Haza Al-Ghamdi, Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Dean Faculty of Arabic Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Bashir, other delegates of various countries and other university faculty members and officers.

Dr Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsin Al-Turki advised the students to devote themselves for acquiring knowledge and termed them as ray of hope for Ummah. He lauded IIUI for nurturing the young minds of Muslim world in the light of Islamic teachings.

 

MWL GENERAL SECRETARY INAUGURATES “MEMORIZATION OF QURAN” PROJECT AT IIUI

Faculty of Islamic Studies of International Islamic University, in collaboration with Maktaba Tu Dawa and Muslim World League (MWL), has initiated a project of “Memorization of Quran”.

The project was inaugurated by MWL General Secretary Dr Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsin Al-Turki at Faisal Masjid campus of the university.

The inaugural ceremony of the course was also attended by the Director Maktaba Tu Dawa Abu Saad Muhammad bin Saad Al-Doussri, Director General Rabta Aalame-e-Islami Pakistan Muhamad Abduho Ateen, Cultural Attaché of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Dr Haza Al-Ghamdi, Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies Dr. Haroon ur Rasheed, other delegates of various countries and university faculty members and officers.

Talking to the students of the project, Dr Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsin Al-Turki appreciated their interest for learning Quran. He prayed for the bright future of the students and advised them to stay away from violent attitudes and adopt Islam’s way of moderation.

Dr. Haroon ur Rasheed, Dean of Islamic Studies has told that more than 100 students from both the campuses of the university has been inducted, while teachers of the project are also taking classes through SKYPE. He informed that number of female students for learning Tajweed, Nazra and Hifz has exceeded the number of male students. “Number of inductions in the “Memorization of Quran” is increasing with every passing day.

IIUI NEW FEMALE HOSTELS INAUGURATED

DR. ABDULLAH BIN ABDULMOHSIN AL-TURKI CUT THE RIBBON

International Islamic University, Islamabad is a pride of Ummah, Muslim World associates its hopes and expectations with IIUI. This was said by Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsin Al-Turkey General Secretary, Muslim World League/ President Islamic Universities League while addressing the inaugural ceremony of Three New Female Hostel Blocks at university.

Dr. Muhammad bin Saad Al-Dousri, Director Maktaba tu Dawah Islamabad, Dr. Muhammad Abduho Ateen, Director General Rabta Aalam-e-Islami Islamabad, Dr. Muhammad Masoom Yasinzai, Rector IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI and other high officials of university also attended the inaugural ceremony. With addition 465 new rooms of three new hostel blocks, university will accommodate more than 1300 new female students within the campus. Its pertinent to mention here that new hostel blocks with common hall, prayer hall and kitchenettes etc have all other facilities.

In his address, Dr. Abdullah Al-Turki said Islamic university contributing remarkable and valuable services for Ummah and its graduates are precious asset of Muslim World.

Dr. Abdullah said university students and researchers can address the issues of Muslim image labelling as extremist and terrorist. Dr. Al-Turki emphasized the scholars and intellectuals to contribute in eradication of attitude of violence and extremism. He assured full cooperation from Muslim World League to complete educational projects and thanked to government of Pakistan and Khadumul Harmain Al-Shareefain for their generous contributions.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Masoom Yasin said university focuses to promote peace, harmony among students, its curriculum highly integrated with tenets of Islam. University present fine example of brotherhood and unity as student of forty nations are being nurtured here. Rector IIUI said that, university discourages attitude of extremism and hatred which is one of its fundamental responsibilities. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said university adorned with symbols of moderation and brotherhood of Islam; its academics programs are highly integrated with teachings of Islam. He said university particularly focuses on character building along with modern education. President IIU thanked to Government of Pakistan for its support and cooperation in construction and completion of the hostel at the University. He also appealed to World Muslim League to gift a grand Mosque to IIUI.

IIUI WELCOMES DR. ABDULLAH BIN ABDULMOHSIN AL-TURKI

International Islamic University, Islamabad extends heartiest and warm welcome to Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsin Al-Turki General Secretary, Muslim World League/ President Islamic Universities League on his kind visit at IIUI.

Dr. Abdulla Al-turki is going to grace IIUI by his gracious presence where he will honour the different occasions at university.

He will grace the ribbon cutting ceremony as chief guest to inaugurate Three New Female Hostels IIUI. Dr. Abdulla will also inaugurate the Arabic Course for Chinese students at university which is going to be started with the collaboration of Maktba ud Dawah Islamabad.

Later, Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsin Al-Turki will chair the seminar titled “Role of Religious Leaders in Combating Terrorism and Rejection of Sectarianism” organized by university, which will be attended by religious leaders, scholars and prominent figures.

DR. EKREM KELEŞ CALLS ON RECTOR, PRESIDENT IIUI

Dr. Ekrem Keles, Vice President of Presidency of Religious Affairs Turkey called on Prof Dr. Muhammad Masoom Yasinzai, Rector and Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh President International Islamic University, Islamabad where they discussed matters of mutual interest. In the meeting, both sides vowed to have bilateral cooperation, especially in the different fields of education particularly science and technology.

It was also agreed to expand cooperation by launching new joint academic programs and academic scholarships for students.

Dr. Ekrem assured his maximum cooperation and collaboration to initiate joint educational ventures in both sides. He appreciated the role of IIUI and services for Muslim Ummah which acknowledged across the world.

Dr. Masoom stressed the need to learn each others’ experiences and to extend the cooperation, collaboration and support. He said that universities and educational institutions need to develop strong educational ties and linkages with each other across the Muslim world.

Dr. Al-draiweesh briefed him about IIUI, its scope, educational programs, research activities, achievements and future projects of IIUI.

He said that IIUI is producing highly skilled professionals integrated with teachings of Islam. Dr. AL-Draiweesh also proposed to launch students and teachers’ exchange program with Turkish universities with the cooperation of Religious Affairs Turkey.

He said that IIUI has very friendly and educational relations with Turkish universities and institutions.

 

US ENVOY VISITS FAISAL MOSQUE

David Hale, United States Ambassador to Pakistan has paid visit to Faisal Masjid, International Islamic University, Islamabad. He was received by Dr. Bashir Khan Vice President Academic, Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja Advisor A&F to President IIUI, Khalid Mehmood Raja Director General and other high officials of IIUI.

US Envoy took keen interest in various parts of Mosque as he was briefed about it in detail. David Hale was also briefed about International Islamic University, its academics programs, international linkages and particularly its outreach programs.

He was also made aware about the recently developed understanding with IIUI and University of North Carolina Wilmington USA for academic excellence by the authorities.

CTF HOLDS SEMINAR ENCOUNTERING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Speakers of a seminar here at International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) termed literacy, improvement in social structures, and awareness to women rights as pre-requisites to encounter violence against women.

The seminar titled “Encountering Violence against Women” was organized by Critical Thinking Forum (CTF) of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in the Lincoln Corner of University, Islamabad which was attended by Christiana Tomlinson, Counselor for Public Affairs, Department of State, US Embassy, Islamabad as guest of honor. The event was also attended by the Project Director ,Founder and Incharge of Critical Thinking Forum, Dr. Munazza Yaqoob, CTF members, as well as faculty and students from various departments of IIUI (Female Campus).

Ms. Christina Tomlinson, in her opening remarks discussed the American commitment with Human Rights in general and women’s rights in particular. She also appreciated the contribution of Critical Thinking Forum in the consciousness-raising of Pakistani women.

Dr. Munazza Yaqoob, gave a brief background of Critical Thinking Forum and the project Consciousness Raising of Pakistani Women on Contemporary Academic and Social Issues.

“As a part of the project activities, Critical Thinking Forum plans to conduct a roundtable discussion session titled “Human Rights Day” on 10th December 2015 which will be followed by a two-day inter-disciplinary conference titled “Consciousness-Raising of Pakistani Women: Negotiating Differences and Building Alliances” to be held on 17-18 December 2015” told Dr. Munnaza Yaqoob.

Dr. Ammar Nasir, Religious Scholar and Researcher, GIFT University Gujranwala, mentioned various factors responsible for the deprivation of Women’s rights in Pakistan including illiteracy, social structures, and distorted interpretation of religion.

Dr. Rakshinda Perveen, Writer, Director and Producer of Program Gender Watch emphasized that women should be wise enough to make right choices in their lives and decide whether to enjoy the luxury of subordination or to pay the price of empowerment.

Ms. Saba Ghori, Mission Gender Advisor, Department of State, US Embassy shared her experiences of working as a Gender Advisor and the work being done in the US to prevent violence against women and provide protection to the victims through legislation.

Shagufta Umer, Incharge Dawah centre for women of IIUI gave a detailed presentation on the various types of violence against women, highlighted its various causes and suggested certain possible solutions of the problem.

Kekashan Arouj, Chairperson, Department of Psychology, IIUI discussed the psychological aspects of violence against women and discussed the strategies to help the victims. The discussion was followed by a question and answer session.

Critical Thinking Forum is an interdisciplinary group of young women researchers and intellectuals of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) which provides a platform for research and critical debates on multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary topics to emerging researchers and intellectuals. A grant project of Critical Thinking Forum (CTF) titled “Consciousness-Raising of Pakistani Women on Contemporary Academic and Social Issues” (2015-2017) has been approved. A series of workshops, roundtables, seminars and conferences will be organized during the period of two years.

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH URGES YOUTH TO DISSEMINATE ISLAM’S MESSAGE OF PEACE

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has called upon Muslim youth to disseminate Islam’s message of peace and discourage violent attitudes.

Addressing male and female representatives of the IIUI students of China, Thailand, Indonesia, Somalia and Afghanistan, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said Islam is religion of peace and hoped Muslim youth would help in disseminating this message with better results in future. He said that IIUI students are ambassadors of university, and many of these ambassadors are pride of IIUI as they are holding mentionable positions across the world. Addressing female students, he said that university is keen to provide platform to its students to showcase their talent and capabilities.

He added that university has distinction of separate campus for the females where female students being provided quality education in the light of Islamic teachings. Students thanked IIUI for sparing time for them and appreciated his leadership.

 

IIUI PRESIDENT RECEIVES ABDULLAH BIN ABDULMOHSIN AL-TURKI

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) received Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsin Al-Turki, General Secretary Muslim World League (MWL) on Islamabad Airport.

Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsin will inaugurate newly built female hostels at IIUI on November 24, while he will also be the chief guest of a seminar on role of media against fighting terrorism on the same day which will be attended by IIUI leadership and prominent figures of society as well.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh, while receiving him said that IIUI is honored to have him as chief guest. He also praised his services for Muslim world and hailed the league’s significant role under his leadership.

During MWL General Secretary’s visit role of IIUI and bilateral cooperation would be discussed by the both sides.

 

UNCW GIFTS 50 BOOKS TO FLL

University of North Carolina, Wilmington, N.C. (UNCW) has gifted more than 50 books to International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).

The books were gifted by Dr. Carrie Clements of UNCW on the occasion of her lecture arranged by the Faculty of Languages & Literature (FLL) in Collaboration with Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD) on “Establishing Center for Teaching Excellence at IIUI” at the Lincoln Corner, Central Library, New Campus IIUI.

On the occasion, Dr. Carrie Clements handed over 51 precious books for Faculty of Languages & Literature (FLL). Dr. Munawar Iqbal Ahmad, Dean, FLL, Dr Ayaz Afsar, Chairman, Department of English and Chief Librarian received the books from guest speaker. Meanwhile, Chief Librarian presented his book The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): A Selected Bibliography in Western Languages to the guest.

INT’L CONFERENCE ON “INCLUSIVE ISLAMIC FINANCIAL SECTOR DEVELOPMENT” CONCLUDES AT IIUI

The communities should be involved to generate and manage the financial resources, said participant economic scholars of the 4th international conference on “Inclusive Islamic Financial Sector Development” at International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).

The two-day moot was jointly organized by International Institute for Islamic Economics (IIIE) of IIUI in collaboration with Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI), Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah.

The conference was attended by the scholars of Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Uganda, and Sudan which witnessed 26 research papers focused on bringing forth recommendations that will help in devising sustainable strategy for development of inclusive finance.

The concluding ceremony was presided over by IIUI Rector Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai who urged for devising a framework for benefiting the poor segments of Muslim countries.

“Majority of population in Muslim countries lives in rural areas while financial institutions concentrate in urban centers, consequently, they remain underserved in terms of access to financial services” said Dr. Masoom, while calling upon the Muslim economists to take measures in this regard. The IIUI Rector hoped that recommendations of the conference after reaching to the governments of Muslim worlds and members of Islamic Development Bank would help in taking constructive measures in future.

Dr. Nasim Shah Shirazi, senior Economist IRTI apprised about the services of his institute. He told that IRTI is working with IIUI since 1984, while both sides have arranged various conferences and seminars in previous three years with bilateral cooperation. He also talked about grants and scholarships of Islamic Development Bank which IRTI has initiated for the students.

The participants recommended that the communities should be involved to generate and manage the financial resources and the Local Organization should be used for the revolving funds being provided by the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) out of the Prime Minister’s interest free fund.

It was also recommended that Islamic banks should downscale their operations by extending their access to the rural and remote locations. Alternatively, they should use the Microfinance NGOs as conduit for financing the unserved/underserved masses, preferably through Mudarabah arrangement.

The ceremony was also attended by Vice President IIUI Dr. Tahir Mansoori, Director IIIE Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Yasin, Head School of Islamic Banking IIE Dr. Atiquzzafar Khan, conference secretary Muhammad Khaleequzzaman, and other senior faculty members of IIIE.

IIUI ARRANGES HIKING EVENT

International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) organized a hiking event in suburbs of Faisal Masjid campus of the university at Trail 6.

The three kilometer hike event was attended by more than 100 students of IIUI and other educational institutions of twin cities.

The event kicked-off with a ceremony which was attended by the Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, HEC Executive Director Dr. Ghulam Raza, Shaheed ZulfiqarAli Bhutto Medical University VC Dr. Javed Akram, Deputy Director Sports IIUI Syed Manzoor Hussain Shah and other HEC & IIUI Officials.

Participants urged for promoting healthy activities in the educational institutions. Rector IIUI said on the occasion that university was working over MoUs with foreign universities and it was also mulling over launching a degree program in sports sciences. He reiterated his resolve to provide an international platform to the students through IIUI.

“Hike activity is a gift for us, such events really help in performing better amid tension of studies and maintaining healthy life” said Muhammad Zahoor, an IIUI student.

 

IIUI PRESIDENT VISITS FET

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) visited Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) on Wednesday.

The IIUI President was received by the Dean FET Dr. Aqdas Naveed Malik who also briefed him about the progress and future plans of the faculty. On the occasion, Director General IIUI Khalid Mehmood Raja, Director Finance Khurshid Alam, and heads of departments of the faculty were also present. During the meeting, faculty’s civil engineering program and its progress was also discussed.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said on the occasion that IIUI teachers should prepare such a generation who serve not only the country but whole humanity. He added that faculty is excellently representing the identity of the university as teachers and students from various countries are engaged in educational activities. Dr. Al-Draiweesh reiterated his resolve of linkages with other institutions of the world while saying that IIUI is focused on producing competent engineers who are being provided education integrated with Islamic teachings.

DR. CAROLINE CLEMENT VISITS DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY IIUI

Dr. Caroline Clement Professor of Psychology University of North Caroline Wilmington (UNCW) USA visited Department of Psychology, International Islamic University Islamabad where she had interactive session with faculty members and students.

She gave a brief account on the collaboration between IIUI and UNCW and further, she also mentioned possibilities of collaboration in research activities between the Department of Psychology IIUI and Department of Psychology UNCW USA.

Dr. Muhammad Tahir Khalily, Chairman Department of Psychology welcomed her in the department and extended his heartiest thanks on sparing precious time for visit. Later on Dr. Caroline visited the office of Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) IIUI and appreciated the efforts and initiatives taken by this office for the enhancement of quality education research and scientific endeavours.

 

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION HOLDS SCHOLARSHIP AWARD CEREMONY

Department of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad organized a scholarship award ceremony in which 20 students of B.Ed (Hons) and Associate Degree of Education (ADE) who secured merit were awarded scholarships. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, IIUI graced the ceremony and distributed scholarships cheques to 6 male and 14 female students of the Department of Education. Dr. Muhammad Tahir Mansoori, Vice President, Higher Studies & Research, IIU, Dr. N. B. Jumani, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani, Chairman Department of Education and Mr. Matloob Hussain, Head of Office, Pakistan Reading Project, (PRP) Islamabad also attended the ceremony.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh appreciated the efforts of the Department of Education and Pakistan Reading Project team and congratulated the students on securing scholarships. President IIUI desired that PRP as well as HEC ought to increase the number of merit based scholarships for IIUI students in future. DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE FEMALE ORGANIZED SEMINAR ON CLIMATE CHANGE

Department of Environmental Science, Female Campus International Islamic University Islamabad organized a seminar on “Effect of Climate Change on Grasslands of Pakistan and Mitigation Measures.”

Eminent scholars and environment experts Dr. Imtiaz Qamar, Director of Climate Change & Range Research Institute (RRI) and Miss. Sadaf Abdullah Ph.D. scholar were resource persons of the seminar. Dr. Imtiaz and Sadaf Abdullah shared their views about the changing climate and its effects on the changing role of grass lands in the economy, conserving biodiversity, watershed management and other very crucial areas of environment. They enriched students with their experiences and expertise about different aspects and prospects of changing environment; they also threw light on mitigation measures which influence water resources and their management. Both the speakers also made students aware about the causes which are affecting environment and how climate change effects can be mitigated to improve environment.

Dr. Bashir Ahmad Khan, Vice-president Academics IIUI concluded the session by sharing his views about the relationship of society and environment. He thanked the speakers, and appreciated the organizer of the seminar Dr. Rukhsana Tariq on organizing a well-planned and coordinated event which carried extensive information on such an important issue. Later on, Dr. Muhammad Sher Dean FBAS, and Dr. Maleeha Asma Chairperson Department of Environmental Science Female had an interactive session with faculty members and students of research scholars of department. Dean FBAS shared his views about the current research areas of environment and urged research scholars to contribute to society by their research.

Governments, financial institutions and societies must play role by supporting an inclusive financial sector policy framework for equal access to financial services, said participants of an international conference at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).

The 4th international conference on “Inclusive Islamic Financial Sector Development” kicked off here at IIUI’s Faisal Masjid Campus on Tuesday. The workshop which is being attended by the scholars of Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Uganda, Sudan and USA, is focused on bringing forth recommendations that will help in devising sustainable strategy for development of inclusive finance.

Speaking to the Inaugural ceremony of the conference as Chief Guest, President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh stressed on the Muslim economic researchers to work for devising strategies for an interest free transparent economic system. He was of the view that financial issues be observed in the light of Islamic teachings. The IIUI President hoped that conference would bring beneficial and significant recommendations pertaining to the financial and economic issues. He urged Ulema to play due role while saying that Muslim scholars can play a meaningful role in devising an Islamic economic system with the help of economic researchers. Dr. Al-Draiweesh told that IIUI is working over a research journal through its IIIE which will address the economic issues in the light of Islamic teachings. He also lauded IRTI for continuous cooperation and hailed IIIE’s contribution while felicitating the organizers on holding a successful event.

RESEARCH WORKSHOP COMMENCES AT IIUI

A five-day workshop on “Research designs” organized by Islamic Research Institute (IRI) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) commenced here at Faisal Masjid campus of the university on Monday. IRI’s workshop is focused on delineating the problems related to research design, data collection, writing skills, and technical editing and formulating guidelines for writing dissertations, research articles, and academic books.

Inaugural ceremony of the workshop was presided over by the university President Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, while chief guest of the event was Professor Mehmood ul Haassan Butt Advisor Higher Education commission (HEC). “Muslim intellectual scholars are the only source of Islamic renaissance as they are the people who can explore Islamic past and glories, and set trends for new path of success” said Prof. Mehmood ul Hassan in his speech in the ceremony.

He discussed Muslim intellectuals’ achievements in the field of literature, science, arts & architecture and philosophy. He was of the view that Muslim scholars, during 700 years long golden age, introduced world with Mathematics, physics, biology and medicine. He added that now is the time when Muslim scholars should redefine their strategy to revive their past.

Speaking in the ceremony, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that research is a pre-requisite for the progress of nations as it becomes a sound foundation to excel and face the challenges. “ IIUI, for 35 years, is working to promote research and it did produce renowned researchers and conducted number of constructive programs to set new avenues of research” said Dr. AL-Draiweesh while apprising about the university’s role in promotion of research. He added that it is need of hour for Muslims to re-think about priorities and devise plan to face the challenges with constructive solutions through research. IIUI President also said that Islam is religion of peace and moderation and Ulema and researchers can play pivotal role in dissemination of its message of peace and harmony.

Earlier, Dr. Muhammad Zia ul Haq, Director IRI briefed about the objectives and importance of workshop while saying that Islamic Research Institute (IRI) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has initiated a series of workshops on research skills and technical editing to enhance the research skills of the academic staff of IIU and postgraduate students.

The workshop would continue for five days, while on the first day Dr. Muhammad Zia ul Haq, Dr. Muhammad Munir (Director Shariah academy), Dr. Mehmood ul Hassan Butt, Dr. Sohail Hassan (Director Dawah Academy) and Hafiz Aftab Ahmad delivered lectures to the participants.

A seven member delegation of Directorate of Distance Education, International Islamic University Islamabad led by Professor Dr. N.B Jumani, Dean Social Sciences/Director DDE IIUI visited Directorate of Distance Education, Gomal University Dera Ismael Khan. IIUI delegation comprised Professor Dr. Ahmad Jan, Chairman, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Bashir, Acting Dean Faculty of Arabic, Dr. Muhammad Munir Kayani Addl. Director (M), DDE, Dr. Abdul Zahoor Khan Acting Chairman Department of History & Pakistan Studies, Dr. Sheikh Tariq Mehmood, Deputy Director, DDE and Mr. Muhammad Shah Khan, E-Learning DDE.

IIUI delegation was received by Prof. Dr. Umar Ali Khan Acting Vice Chancellor Gomal University and given warm reception at university; later on, delegation also paid visit to Directorate of Distance Education, its infrastructure, class rooms and labs.

In an introductory session, Dr. Umar Ali Khan introduced the members of DDE Gomal University, while Dr. Nabi Bux Jummani introduced IIUI delegates.

Mr. Muhammad Sadiq gave detail briefing including introduction and brief history of Directorate of Distance Education Gomal University DI Khan.

Mr. Muhammad Naeem gave presentation about the LMS (Learning Management System) working and controlling how the students and teachers interact with each other.

The last presentation by Mr. Hafeez ur Rehman was about the financial issues, courses offered, fee structure, student strength in various sessions and year budget. IIUI delegation members grabbed experience on several ideas and the success stories of the DDE Gomal University and also learned obstacles, hurdles and the way to avoid the mistakes.

IIUI LEADERSHIP DISCUSSES COOPERATION WITH KSA ENVOY

The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) leadership has discussed bilateral cooperation with Abdullah Marzouk Al-Zahrani, Ambassador of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh called on the ambassador at Royal Embassy of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on. Issues of mutual interest were discussed, while both sides vowed that bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of education would be further expanded. IIUI leadership also thanked KSA for continuous cooperation with IIUI and termed Faisal Mosque as strong bond of close ties between KSA and IIUI, while IIUI Rector and President also said the mosque is an omen of strong brotherly relation between both countries.

Ambassador Al-Zahrani lauded the varsity’s services and assured his full cooperation for the improvement of education. Mutual cooperation between IIUI and Saudi universities would be encouraged, he added.

Dr. Masoom Yasinzai appreciated the collaboration between IIUI and Saudi Arabia’s Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University. He said that the IIUI is working on the core objective of internationalization.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh apprised on the occasion that the university is keen for linkages with universities of world. He also informed about induction of new foreign faculty members at IIUI.

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH CALLS ON SECRETARY INTERIOR

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) called on Secretary Interior, Shahid Khan at Ministry of Interior.

Issues of mutual interests were discussed in the meeting. Both the officials agreed that bilateral cooperation would be enhanced.

Shahid Khan lauded IIUI for its role and services to Muslim world while saying that the university is playing pivotal role in disseminating true message of Islam.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said on the occasion that IIUI is providing quality education integrated with teachings of Islam to students of above 40 countries. He also apprised that number of foreign scholars from Egypt, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sudan and other countries are teaching at IIUI and the university is heading towards making its place among the ranks of leading international universities.

At the end, a university souvenir was also presented to the Secretary Interior by President IIUI.

IIUI TEAM SHINES IN LUMS NATIONAL MOOT

A 4-member team of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) students clinched 2nd position in Annual National Moot Competition held at Lahore University of management Sciences (LUMS).

The IIUI team was supervised by Hafiz M. Usman Nawaz. (Faculty Member at Sahriah & Law, while team members include Zulqarnain Ali Raja (Speaker), Ali Azim Afridi (Speaker), Qatadah Jamal Khan (Researcher) and Touseef Akram (Researcher).

The competition was judges by veteran Supreme Court judges including Justice Shakirullah jaan, Justice Amir Raza and Justice Sahir Ali. University leadership has felicitated the IIUI team and appreciated their talent.

“Out of 8 teams of final round we stood 2nd, it was a healthy activity for which we worked hard and we have already started working to claim the events’ next title as we have gained momentum now” said Qatadah, a team member.

GRAND ANNUAL DINNER AT MALE CAMPUS OF IIUI

Grand Annual Dinner was held here at male campus’ hostel which was attended by a large number of students.

Annual dinner at IIUI is a tradition of university which was followed this time as well by Hostel Administration & Mess Committee, while it was attended by Vice President Academics Dr. Mohammad Bashir khan as chief guest.

Speaking to the students, Dr. Bashir Khan appreciated the effort and said such events increase unity and brotherhood among the university students. He also distributed shields among mess committee of hostel (no 5 and 6) members and other organizers.

IQBAL DAY CELEBRATED AT FEMALE CAMPUS IIUI

Department of Urdu, Female Campus, International Islamic University, Islamabad, organized Iqbal Day ceremony in connection with Iqbal Day celebrations.

The ceremony was witnessed the competitions of recitation of Iqbal’s poetry and singing of Kalam-e-Iqbal, in which students from 25 departments took part in the competition.

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI graced the ceremony while Dr. Samina Malik, Director Female Campus, Dr. Najeeba Arif, Student Advisor Female IIUI, faculty members and large number of students were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh said, Iqbal was a great thinker and philosopher of Muslims who influenced not only Muslims of sub-continent but Muslims of world at large. He was of the view that Iqbal was a genius, whose thinking and concepts were being explored around the world and renowned universities of the world have established Iqbal Center in the universities. “Iqbal’s works particularly focuses young mind of the Muslims and inspires youth through revolutionary thoughts and concepts”. President IIUI added. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said Iqbal termed Muslim youth Shaheen and sprinkled spiritual light, so they may determine their destination to revive the lost position in the world. He said that today institutions of the world are translating Iqbal’s message, thoughts and concepts for their communities in multi languages.

Dr. Samina Malik and Dr. Najeeba Arif also addressed the student on the occasion.

 

IIUI INKS MOU WITH RIPHAH

The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Riphah International University to conduct international conference on Islamic business, and work together for establishing a frame work for promoting business education in the light of Islamic principles.

The MoU will be materialized by the International Institute of Islamic Economics (IIIE) of IIUI and Riphah Centre of Islamic Business (RCIB) under the banner of signed MoU.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh President IIUI and Prof. Dr. Anis Ahmad Vice Chancellor Riphah. Directors of economic institutes Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Yasin and Dr. Muhammad Ayub of both sides were also present on the occasion.

Under the MoU, both universities would work for dissemination of knowledge in the fields of economics, business, banking and finance. Both sides also agreed on bilateral academic interchange with active engagement of academicians and create awareness among the general public about Islamic banking and finance.

Both institutions vowed to organize conferences, seminars and public awareness programs with mutual interaction between the officials and academicians, while a detailed program for arrangement of joint 4th conference on Islamic business was also discussed.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Draiweesh suggested that a consortium of Islamic universities be establish with the help of both universities which would work for promotion of Islamic banking, its awareness and cooperation. He said that IIUI doors are open for cooperation with all the educational institutions of world and IIUI is keen to disseminate the Islam’s message of peace and moderation by creating linkages with national and international institutions.

Dr. Anis, while endorsing the suggestion of Islamic varsities consortium assured of maximum bilateral cooperation and hailed IIUI for its services to Muslim world.

 

CH. HAMID HAMEED CALLS ON DR. MASOOM, RECTOR IIUI

Ch. Hamid Hameed, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Kashmir Affairs &GB and Member of the Standing Committee on Education, Training & Standards in Higher Education called on Dr. Muhammad Masoom Yasinzai, Rector International Islamic University Islamabad.

In a meeting Mr. Hamid Hameed discussed various matters pertaining to higher education, trainings and prospects of quality of education in the university. He also showed keen interest in the matters of IIUI, its future plans and particularly on-going training programs for Aimaas, Khutabaas.

While reference to previous meeting in which IIUI was asked to contribute to and prepare curriculum of Madaaras integrated with contemporary requirements, He sought possible role of IIUI to bring Madaras into main stream of the country. Dr. Masoom while referring to academics programs said that IIUI offers admission to students who completed their study from Madaaras.

Dr. Masoom proposed comprehensive package of reforms and restructuring of Madrassah starts from primary level. In a meeting, both the personalities agreed to finalize the role for IIUI in up-coming meeting.

UNCW TO ESTABLISH CENTRE FOR TEACHING OF EXCELLENCE AT IIUI

University of North Carolina Wilmington USA (UNCW) is going to establish Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE) at International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). To follow the project, two members delegation from UNCW comprising Dr. Carrie Clements and Dr. Lance Cummings visited IIUI and called on Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh to finalize the project of CTE. Dr. Munawar Iqbal Gondal, Deam Faculty of Language and Literature IIUI also attended the meeting in which discussed matters of CTE in detail.

IIUI and UNCW have developed an academic partnership to implement a collaborative model of professional development in teaching, research and community engagement.

This partnership will enables the expansion of faculty teaching expertise at both institutions through in-personal and virtual workshop mentoring and pedagogical collaborations. The research component of this IIUI-UNCW collaboration will facilitate faculty exchange, increasing individual and departmental research capacities, equip faculty members with modern teaching methodologies. In a meeting Dr. Carrie apprised about this collaboration and expressed her pleasure to initiate this project with IIU. She hoped that CTE will expand gradually to and its programs will also be increased in near future. Dr. Al-Draiweesh assured them maximum cooperation to expand this collaboration to make it successful. He asserted that IIUI always keen to expand cooperation, faculty exchange programs and research activities as IIUI has international status.

President IIUI was of the view that, IIUI provides best academic milieu to its students and researchers to contribute for the betterment of humanity. Dr. Al-Draiweesh proposed to launch a constructive dialogue on interfaith harmony and peaceful co-existence on this platform. He said IIUI is fine example of peaceful co-existence as students from forty nations are being nurtured and he further strongly condemned the approach of pessimism, extremism and violent attitudes. Earlier, delegate member gave detail presentation on Centre for Teaching Excellence in which large number of faculty members participated.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ORGANIZES 3 DAY WORKSHOP ON LEARNERS’ PSYCHOLOGY

Department of Education, International Islamic University Islamabad organized a 3 day workshop comprised series of sessions on Professional Development Program for University Teachers (PDPUT). This is very intensive for in- service training of university teachers on the pattern of HEC programs.

The aim of workshop is to enhance pedagogical and research skills of teaching faculty. Workshop comprised of 9 areas out of which an important one is Learners’ Psychology which is to be the 5th in that series.

Participants learned in the workshop that how to encounter problems which are difficult to handle, such as dealing with low motivated, disturbed, and problematic students, tackle learning difficulties of students, and control aggressive behavior.

In first session of the workshop Dr. Nazia Iqbal, Assistant Professor Department of Psychology, IIUI elaborated different concepts pertaining to teaching in the light of psychological theories and different constructive approaches. She stressed on the practical implementation of innovative teaching and learning approaches to cater the emerging needs of learners during the lectures in classroom.

In the second session, Dr. Tamkeen Ashraf Malik, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, National University of Science & Technology (NUST) Islamabad, presented an interactive discussion on learning and individual differences covering dynamic themes like multiple intelligences and learning/ cognitive styles. Dr. Tamkeen further emphasized the need of managing individual differences and various learning styles to minimize learning problems.

In the third session, Dr. Nasreen Rafiq Khan, Associate Professor/ Chairperson, Department of Applied Psychology, Islamabad Model College for Girls (Postgraduate) F-7/2, Islamabad delivered presentation on “Why it is good to feel Good: Going beyond Positive Emotions”. In her presentation, she discussed the significance of emotions ts types giving examples and personal experiences.

She highlighted the importance of emotions in broadened mind set, strengthening of intellect, physical, social and emotional resources with reference to broaden & built theory. In their addresses, Dr. N.B Jumani, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences and Dr. Samina Malik, Director Female Campus acknowledged contributions of guest speakers and faculty members. They highlighted the need of training programs, professionalism and appreciated participants for their contribution.

IRI ARRANGES WORKSHOP SERIES ON RESEARCH SKILLS

Islamic Research Institute (IRI) of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has initiated a series of workshops on research skills and technical editing to enhance the research skills of the academic staff of IIU and postgraduate students.

The project is explanatory in nature, addressing itself primarily to delineating the problems related to research design, data collection, writing skills, and technical editing and formulating guidelines for writing dissertations, research articles, and academic books.

IQBAL CELEBRATIONS AT DEPT OF URDU

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH AWARDED ARAB SOCIETY OF ARTS AND ISLAMIC CIVILIZATION MEMBERSHIP

Arab Society of Arts and Islamic Civilization has awarded membership to the President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh in recognition of his services for promotion of Arabic civilization.

The decision was taken in the 13th meeting of Board of Governors of the society where IIUI President’s services for Arabic language and Arabic civilization were appreciated with an award of membership of the society.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh has thanked the society while lauding its role in promotion of Islamic civilization. Later, Dr. Al-Draiweesh also presented his paper titled “The Faisal Mosque of Islamabad: its history, construction and Islamic architecture” in an international moot on “Cultural and Civilizational Heritage between Tradition and Modernity in Islamic Art” organized by the Arab Society of Arts and Islamic Civilization, in collaboration with the Al Maktoum Foundation and ISESCO and in cooperation with the prime minister’s office (Egypt), in Sharm El-Sheikh city of Egypt.

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH DISCUSSES ISSUES OF MUTUAL INTERESTS WITH AL-AZHAR COUNTERPART

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) met with Al-Azhar University, President Abdul Hai Azab in Egypt.

During the meeting, bilateral cooperation and enhancement of academic excellence were discussed, while both the dignitaries vowed to jointly keep taking practical steps for promotion of education.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh hailed the cooperation of Al-Azhar for faculty assistance while mentioning induction of 11 Egyptian teachers in the faculties of Arabic, Shariah and Islamic studies of IIUI. He said that since inception of IIUI Al-Azhar university is supporting the university in terms of faculty support which is an omen of close ties between both universities, while he also thanked Abdul Hai Azab for continuous support of the university.

PRESIDENT IIUI MEETS SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE LEAGUE OF ISLAMIC UNIVERSITIES

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) called on Jafar Abdul-Salam , Secretary-General of the League of Islamic Universities in Egypt.

The meeting was part of President IIUI’s efforts for introducing the university globally and to enhance its linkages with world renowned educational institutions.

During the meeting issues pertaining to mutual interest including IIUI’s contributions in social sciences and field of Shariah were discussed. Both the dignitaries discussed the coming meeting of executive committee of league in Islamabad, while Dr. Al-Draiweesh apprised that on the sidelines of the meeting of steering committee of an international seminar on “media & its role in combating terrorism” would be also held.

Jafar Abdul-Salam, while appreciating the role of IIUI said that university Is the hub of enlightened ideology which is working for dissemination of Islam’s message of peace and moderation. He also assured of maximum cooperation to the university in achievements of its lofty goals.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said on the occasion that League of Islamic Universities is serving Muslim world with dedication and its work for the future of youth is laudable. He also mentioned league’s continuous support to IIUI.

 

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH VISITS AL-AZHAR’S ISLAMIC RESEARCH ACADEMY

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) visited the Islamic Research Academy of Al-Azhar University, Egypt.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh’s visit was part of President IIUI’s efforts for introducing the university globally and to enhance its linkages with world renowned educational institutions.

The IIUI President was received by Dr Mohiuddin Afifi , Secretary General of the Islamic Research Academy who briefed him about the role and scope of the academy and told about its sub-departments including Fatwa Committee and research departments.

On the occasion, Dr Mohiuddin Afifi lauded IIUI for its role in dissemination of Islam’s message of peace. Dr. AL-Draiweesh told academy’s head that IIUI is heading towards success with its agenda of internationalization through its linkages with institutions of world and Government has assured full support to the university in this regard. He also told that IIUI’s Islamic Research Institute is one of the core constituent units, which is serving Muslim Ummah through its scholars. The IIUI President also apprised about the international conference and seminars organized by the university.

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH MEETS IIUI STUDENTS IN EGYPT

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), met with the IIUI students who are studying in Egypt through scholarships provided by the university.

IIUI President urged the students to complete the degrees with dedication and termed them as ambassadors of the university. He also listened to their problems and conveyed the issues to the Deputy of Al-Azhar university, Mehmood Abu Hashim who assured of solutions of the problems on priority basis.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Draiweesh hailed university PhD scholar Mr. Habib for his bright performance and reiterated his resolve that exposure building measures for IIUI students would be further enhanced.

 

ISLAMIC ORIENTATION PROGRAM CONCLUDES AT DCW

An Islamic orientation program of children training was organized by Dawah Center for women (DCW) which concluded here at male campus of the university at centre.

The training program was attended by 35 female participants, while Incharge DCW Shagufta Omar, Faryal Ambreen (DCW), Dr. Kanwal Qaiser, Sakeena Shahid, Rabeia Nawaz, Mahjabeen, Zainab Ali, Asma Mushtaq delivered lectures o various topics of the course.

The concluding ceremony was presided over by the former female campus director Dr. Zaitoon Begum who stressed for nurturing children in the light of Islamic teachings. She added that positive attitudes in childhood lead to positivity and character building of children. She was of the opinion that children should not be deprived of due time which they deserve from the parents.

Meanwhile, a book exhibition was also organized by DCW amid course activities, which was appreciated by the participants who were also provided Dawah Academy publications and books of Shagufta Omar.

Participants termed the course as a vital and significant development in their lives and urged for arranging such activities in future with more frequency.

DR. MASOOM, STRESSES TO PROMOTE RESEARCH CULTURE IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTES

Prof Dr. Muhammad Masoom Yasinzai, Rector International Islamic University, Islamabad participated in “1st Asia and Pacific Countries Muslim Religious Leaders’ Summit” titled Unity in Multiplicity; Rethinking “WISDOM and PEACE” Together, held at Istanbul, Turkey. He also delivered comprehensive lecture in which he highlighted issues, challenges and future prospects of education in Muslim countries. Dr. Masoom stressed the need to extend the cooperation, collaboration and support with each other. He was of the view that, our universities and educational institutions should expand their expertise and experiences; they also need to develop strong educational ties and linkages with each other across the Muslim world.

Rector IIUI emphasised to focus on quality of research and promote research culture in our universities and institutions which is dire need of time. Dr. Masoom said our Madrassah education should be integrated with contemporary education system and the students over there must be given opportunity to stand with university students. “They must be brought in main streams with comprehensive strategy and dynamic approach as no religion discourages the scientific education”. Rector IIUI said. He said that, while referring to IIUI academics programs, effort are being made in Pakistan to bring Madrsaah students in main stream, sessions of training for teachers of Madrassah are arranged at IIUI.

Dr. Masoom proposed comprehensive package of reforms and restructuring of Madrassah internationally start from primary level. He said every country must follow the guidelines and learn from the experiences from Imam Khateeb Institution, Turkey.

DEPARTMENT OF P&IR ORGANIZES TWO DAY SEMINAR

Department of Politics and International Relations, International Islamic University (IIU) Islamabad organized a two day seminar on the topic of “International Humanitarian Law and Mandate of the ICRC”. Mr Aezaz Ur Rehman, Operational Communication Officer, ICRC Islamabad was a guest speaker of the seminar. Guest speaker appreciated the faculty and students of the Department of Politics & International Relations for organizing such an event. In his presentation Mr. Aezaz Ur Rehman highlighted the mandate and outreach programs, the history & mandate of ICRC.

He said ICRC is working world wide and it has presence in more than 80 countries with 12000 staff members. Aezaz ur Rehman apprised that ICRC is a neutral, impartial and independent organization which was established in 18th century. While highlighting the contributions of ICRC in Pakistan, Mr. Aezaz said ICRC was invited by the first governor general Quaid-I-Azam soon after the 1947 partition, which helped war affected people in the 1948, 1965 and 1971. He said ICRC has also assisted Pakistan in 2005 earth quake in AJK, 2010-11floods, IDPs of Malakand, FATA, relief and rehabilitation of the aggrieved families.

He further highlighted ICRC’s communication policies saying that ICRC focuses and respond through facts. Aeza ur Rehman clarified the common misunderstandings about the ICRC Emblem that have been labelled as a Christian symbol and represented with a ‘Red Cross (+). He explained that it is a reversal of flag of Switzerland rather a religious symbol representing Christianity. The concluding session of the first day was conducted by Mr. Nawaz Ali and second day by Dr. Mansoor Akbar Kundi. The second day proceedings were lead by Dr. Manzoor Afridi while Dr. Amna Mehmood Chairperson Politics &; IR Dept. Female Campus opened the session.

DR. AROOSA’S BOOK “RETHINKING IDENTITIES IN CONTEMPORARY PAKISTANI FICTION: BEYOND 9/11” PUBLISHED

Dr. Aroosa Kanwal (Assistant Professor at department of English of International Islamic University, Islamabad, IIUI) has authored a book titled “Rethinking Identities in Contemporary Pakistani Fiction: Beyond 9/11”.

Dr. Aroosa’s book has been published by Palgrave Macmillan. Varsity high officials and academicians, while appreciating the effort of author, have congratulated her and termed her achievement as matter of pride for university.

Dr. Aroosa’ book focuses on the way that notions of home and identity have changed for Muslims as a result of international ‘war on terror’ rhetoric. It uniquely links the post-9/11 stereotyping of Muslims and Islam in the West to the roots of current jihadism and the resurgence of ethnocentrism within the subcontinent and beyond. The author proposes an articulation of a flexible identity among Muslims that is termed a ‘global ummah’ after 9/11.

Dr. Aroosa is a graduate of IIUI and she has completed her PhD from Lancaster University’s (UK), English and Creative Writing Department under IIUI’s faculty development program. She currently teaches courses in South Asian literature, modern short fiction, Pakistani literature in English, while also supervises research thesis in the related areas. She also owns number of publications, conferences presentations and talks to her credit.

HEC TEAM VISITS IIUI

A Higher Education Commission education survey Team (HEC) visited international Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).

The team was briefed by the university officials about the academic activities, research and methods of teaching by university officials. The meeting was attended by Director Academics Shagufta Haroon, Director QEC Dr. Thair Khalily and Assistant Director Imran Marwat.

The team visited male and female campuses of the university and took response of the students through questionnaires and group discussions. The team lauded IIUI’s efforts for education and showed satisfaction over ongoing academic progress while stressed that initiating more steps for academic excellence.
