He said, empowerment of students with latest technology is highly appreciated step which will facilitate students in their research work. Dr. Al-Draiweesh termed Pakistani students full of talent, abilities and are best of in their profession. He further said that Pakistanis are considered best professional in the world; they are serving in every field of life with dignity and honor. Dr. Al-Draiweesh wished to facilitate every student on maximum level and to provide excellent educational environment in campus. He also advised students to stay away from pessimist thinking, and always discourage negative attitude of extremism and fanaticism. While briefing, Ghulzar Ahmed Khwaja said, in the first round of Prime Minister’s laptop scheme distribution, 3816 laptops have been awarded to MS PhD students of Islamic University.

The University also wants to clarify that it considers the Palestine issue as the issue concerning the whole of Muslim Ummah and the University’s stance on the issue is same as the stance of Government of Pakistan and the rest of the Muslim world. A number of Palestinian students have graduated from IIUI and many of them are still studying here. A Palestinian student was the participant in the said programme and she, along with her other group members, highlighted the Israeli atrocities against the Palestinians.

In the meeting of higher authorities of IIUI on Sunday, the orders of the suspension of those responsible for the incident have been issued. A high powered committee has also been constituted to probe the matter in detail and in the light of the recommendations of the said committee the future strategy would be evolved to deal with such matters. The university administration would like to further explain, the President IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh did not visit any cultural exhibition at the sideline of the program and the stall exhibiting Israeli cultural was arranged without his permission and knowledge.

Sardar Muhammad Youasaf said that organized Hajj arrangements and successful flight operations were achievements for the government and Saudi Arabia’s cooperation in this regard was no doubt appreciable.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said educational institutions play significant role to curb the challenge of violence and IIUI is committed for the cause by nurturing young minds while providing quality education integrated with teachings of Islam. He reiterated his resolve that IIUI would keep playing its role for creating a milieu of peace in the country.

He also lauded the arrangements made by the ministry for facilitating the pilgrims during Hajj. He said due to the efforts of Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, this year arrangements and steps were admirable.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh while thanking all the guests and audience said Islam is only religion which offers universal values that can be adopted by every religion without any amendment. He said Islamic University offers conducive and peaceful environment of study to students, discourage the attitude of violence and extremism. Dr. Al-Draiweesh further said, Islam has nothing with terrorism, extremism and such negative concept which against the humanity. In his welcome note, Dr. Mumtaz paid great tribute to all the guests and participants and congratulated to organizers on success of the conference while vowing to organize such more events in this nature.

This he said while addressing a program titled “27 October Black Day: Indian Invasion & Planned Attempt to Flood Kashmir” held at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) with the collaboration of Department of Politics & IR and Youth Forum for Kashmir.

“We believe that the issue be resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions keeping in view the aspirations of the Kashmiri people,” the minister said. He added Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif effectively presented Pakistan’s stance at the recent 69th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session. Pervaiz Rashid reminded the world community about the promises made with the Kashmiris for resolving the issue under the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Talking on Line of Control violations, Minister said that such happenings from the Indian side would effect the peace in the region. He urged the nation and youth to put aside personal difference and asked to stand united for the solution of disputes such as Kashmir.

He vowed that govt would keep bringing the Kashmir issue on international forums while he termed its solution as vital for the betterment of region.

Speaking in the program, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf’s Information secretary Shireen Mazari said Kashmir is an international dispute which demands a clear cut policy from the government. She was of the view that sacrifices of the Kashmiris would never be forgotten. She also condemned the violation of human rights in Kashmir. Dr. Shahid Masood, famous TV analysts urged for the principled stance on the dispute while saying that it was a decisive moment to devise clear policies on such issues.

Iltaf Hussain Wani, a veteran Kashmir Freedom Fighter said India is not allowing external aid while 1.5 million families in the occupied Kashmir have been effected from the recent floods. He also lauded the Pakistan Army’s befitting response to Indian aggression on LoC.

In his presidential address to the program, Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, Vice President Academics, IIUI, said Kashmir is a significant dispute and Kahmiris must be given the prerogative of self determination. He vowed that IIUI would keep supporting Kashmiris in the freedom movement. Dr. Tahir Mansoori, Vice President higher studies and research said that we would have to change our attitudes regarding Kashmir dispute. He added that the issue should not be neglected. The program was also addressed by Head Department of P&IR Dr. Manzoor Khan Afridi, Head P&IR (female) Dr. Noor Fatima, Dr. Saif Abbasi and other IIUI scholars.

In the meeting with President IIUI, the delegates were apprised by the President IIUI regarding the university and he also informed them about the academies, faculties and the research work being held at university.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that recent conference on humanitarian law organized by IIUI and ICRC is a visible example of the university’s vision of internationalization. He said IIUI doors are wide open for the mutual cooperation with all the countries while IIUI would keep providing a milieu of peace to students of Muslim Ummah and it would keep playing its role in dissemination of Islam’s message of peace. Later, a luncheon was hosted by the President IIUI in the honour of the guest scholar.

The conference further recommended that highlighting the values of humanitarian principles included in Islamic Law and IHL, notably, humanity and distinction between combatant and noncombatants as well as civilian properties and military objectives. It is equally important to stress that the violation of these principles impact adversely the humanitarian services as a whole and harm protected categories. The last day of the conference witnessed different comprehensive sessions which discussed” Rules for the preservation of humanity in Islamic Law and Humanitarian Law, Direct participation to hostilities & protection of civilians during wars: Humanitarian Law and Islamic Law perspectives, Safety of Medical Personnel and facilities under Islamic Law and IHL, Challenges for Medical Personnel in Conflict Zones, Neutral and independent humanitarian action.

The concluding session jointly chaired by the President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and Mr. Ronald Ofteringer, while all the four sessions of last day chaired by Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani, Head Dar-ul-Uloom Korangi, Karachi, Maulana Abdul Malik, President Rabit-Tul-Madaaris Al-Islamiyah, Pakistan, Hojjatolislam Ahmed Moballeghi, Hawzeh Ilmiyyah, Qom Iran, Dr. Aly Ahmed Mohammad Mishal former president, federation of Islamic Medical Associations and Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed Executive Director Iqbal International Institute of Research and Dialogue IIUI respectively. In the conference, it was focused that Shariah and IHL offer same route to protect and preserve the humanitarian actions and services; teachings of Islam are clear message of humanism which provides full cover to Muslim and non Muslim without any discriminations. The participants agreed on the fact, neutrality and impartiality are vital elements of humanitarian services, which needs to be taken great care, as the neutrality is one of biggest challenges. They also maintained a strong relationship and coordination among charity organizations are necessary factors while countering the element of partiality.

The participants demanded the rescue workers are undoubted great people; they are on every level should be encouraged and fully supported to make their moral high. It is to be highly required to spread awareness of humanitarian action, principles and foundations of this action through publications, brochures and social media. Participants also urged follow up of the recommendations of the conference to make it practical, terming it need of the hour. At the end, in concluding remarks President IIUI Dr. Al-Draiweesh and Reto Stocker Head of Delegation ICRC Pakistan paid tribute to all participants wholeheartedly whose efforts made the conference successful.

Dr. Mukhtar said all efforts and endeavours for betterment of education will bring fruits only with the cooperation and sincere support of wise educationists. Dr. Al-Draiweesh directed to expedite the work and stressed that the building should be completed in minimum period. He said that IIUI administration is keen for the university development. In the meeting, issues of mutual interests were discussed while both the personalities vowed to enhance bilateral cooperation. These were the views of the participants of a two-day International Conference titled “Humanitarian Action in the World of today-Challenges and Perspectives in the Light of Shariah and Humanitarian law” which commenced here on Wednesday. The two-day moot is being jointly organized by International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) & The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Pakistan.

“Islam is a religion of peace and it invites towards brotherhood, Islam has established the bases of humanitarian work in all circumstances such as impositions of emergencies of armed disputes”, said President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh while addressing the opening session of the conference which was joined by the ICRC top leadership and national, foreign scholars and experts. He added that humanitarian work is an authentic Islamic objective which is encouraged by Islam in its holy book and also by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Humanitarian work is a noble aspect of the mankind and humanitarian workers deserve appreciation and reverence, he maintained.

Mr. Retro Stocker, ICRC Head of Delegation, Pakistan said in his speech that the main objective of the this conference is to promote an understanding of the Islamic Law applicable during armed conflict and the compatibility of international humanitarian law with it. “The conference would provide an opportunity to discuss the importance and relevance of the concept of neutral and impartial humanitarian action in a divided and protracted world” he added.

The participants took keen interest in the speech of Dr. Mahmood Al Mubarak, Director Centre for International Legal Studies Saudi Arabia who also criticized western countries for violating the international human law such as inappropriate dealing with the prisoners in the Iraq war. He urged international criminal court to work more for the termination of war crimes while stressing that countries which violate the laws being strong, should be pressurized and IHL must be implemented on equal bases.

“War does not mean unlimited destruction and killing of civilians, it is vital to have dialogue on termination of war crimes and cooperation for saving the lives of war victims, said veteran ICRC member Francois Bugnion, who is working with ICRC more than 45 years.

The first session of the conference was “Rules of the preservation of humanity in Islamic Law and Humanitarian Law” which was presided by Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani, Head Dar-ul-Uloom Korangi, Karachi. While concluding the session he said Islamic Shariah introduced humanitarian laws thousands years ago while ICRC’s work also deserves appreciation. He urged international community to work together for providing resources to ICRS and he also urged ICRC to convey war crimes to UN and its institutions. Second session was dedicated to the topic “Direct participation to hostilities and protection of civilians during wars” which was presided by Maulana Abdul Malik, President Rabit-Tul-Madaaris Al-Islamiyah, Pakistan. The session was also addressed by Dr.Tayeb Munir of IIUI and various renowned scholars. The first day was also joined by various scholars and administrative officers IIUI.

The conference would conclude today (Thursday) in which indigenous and foreign scholars would discuss vital topics.

Earlier, Dr. Mansoori was a Dean of Faculty of Shariah & Law in the University. Dr. Mansoori is a member of the Task Force on Islamic Banking, State Bank of Pakistan and member of the Religious Board, Mudarabah Companies. He has contributed 31 research articles in English, Arabic and Urdu languages and his nine scholarly books have been published. Dr. Tahir Mansori has been a resource person in number of national and international conferences and seminars. He has supervised eight Ph.D and 20 M.Phill/LL.M. theses.

The conference would be attended by indigenous and foreign scholars who would present thesis and reviews on various topics including literary and research work, Promotion of Quranic comprehension in women, Problems in comprehension of Quran.

Meanwhile, a gathering to condole for the death of the relatives of various employees was also held at Old Campus of the university which was attended by officials of Dawah Academy, Shariah Academy and New Campus. The meeting was presided over by Head Fiqh Unit Dr Asmat Ullah while Executive Director Iqbal Institute for Research and Dialogue Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed also participated in the meeting.

Jamal Malik, who is holding the chair for Islamic Studies at the University of Erfurt addressed the participant, discussed the various aspects, phases and features of Urdu short story. While admiring organization of this interactive workshop Dr. Jamal termed it a vital mile stone to create a milieu of dialogue and interaction between East and West. He also paid tribute to Islamic University on organizing such fruitful activity and encouraged students to participate more to broaden their vision and exposure.

Mrs. Bushra Malik from University of Erfurt, Dr. Nelofar Iqbal, Director Female Campus IIUI Dr. Zaitoon Begum, Head Urdu Dept female Dr. Najiba Arif, also addressed the concluding ceremony. The workshop was also attended by faculty members including Dr. Sanahat Mushtaq, Dr. Humaira Ashfaq, Summaya Shad, Ms. Shadab and student from Punjab University Lahore, University of Peshawar and IIUI.

“Social media can be a source of meaningful changes in the society as it is the most vital way to disseminate the voice for any objective” said Mrs. Bushra Malik who is attached to Urdu teaching in Germany and also head and originator of Young Women Writers Forum in Pakistan. She added that societies which face dissociation from literature and pen ultimately lose their social values.

Mrs. Bushra also discussed Egypt revolution, role of social media in recent Scotland referendum and its role in women empowerment. She stressed upon the participants to deeply study the Urdu classical literature and lives of the writer while hoping it would be helpful for young writers to bring constructive literature in front of society.

Earlier, Najiba Arif apprised the participants regarding aims and objectives of the workshop and said renowned personalities have been invited in the workshop and it would be an immense opportunity for creative students to broaden their exposure.

Concluding ceremony of the workshop will be held today (Tuesday) at central library of the varsity at 10 am which will be presided by Director General (AF&P) IIUI Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja while Director female campus Dr. Zaitoon Begum and experts from Germany will also participate in the ceremony.

The spokesperson has categorically stated that Academic and administrative affairs of International Islamic University Islamabad are being run very smoothly and recent appointments of President and Rector on regular basis is a clear indicator in this regard.

The spokesperson affirmed that IIUI administration is fully cognizant of its responsibilities being most important educational institution of Muslim Ummah. It has been taking all requisite steps to ensure the provision of quality education while all faculties and departments of the International Islamic University are being headed by senior faculty members having excellent academic record and robust administrative experience. He further stated that there was lack of senior professors in some faculties due to government’s ban on jobs (which is lifted only recently) and administrative responsibilities were given to Deputy Deans as an interim measure.

Responding to the allegation of Deputy Dean’s posting against the rules, IIUI spokesperson clarified that position of Deputy Dean is a statutory position and in its recent meeting, the Board of Trustees of International Islamic University had fully endorsed it. While indicating the misreporting in the news item he added that the Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences is headed by a fulltime Professor and likewise senior faculty members are looking after the affairs of Faculty of Arabic and Faculty of Languages and Literature. IIUI spokesperson said now when ban on jobs is lifted, the University administration is keen to fill permanent positions through a fair and competitive process.

The University Spokesperson, while referring to the point mentioned regarding the inappropriate appointment of the head of physics at female campus, clarified Department of Physics in Female Campus is headed by faculty member who specializes in nanotechnology and this perfectly matches with the specialization of Physics program at IIUI.

The IIUI spokesperson further clarified a statement attributed to Rector IIUI Dr Masoom Yasinzai regarding his recent request to Saudi authorities. Dr Masoom Yasinzai indeed said that during Board of Trustee’s recent meeting held in Saudi Arabia, university has requested to Board members to help IIUI in approaching senior faculty members.

It is important to mention this year a record number of students have applied for admissions in dozens of degree programs across all faculties of the university which clearly reflects the confidence of students and parents in university.

President Mamnoon Hussain, on the advice of prime minister, gave approval for the appointment of Professor Dr. Masoom Yasinzai who had been holding the acting charge as varsity Rector for almost last three years.
Professor Yasinzai is renowned international scientist who has also served as Vice Chancellor Baluchistan University and VC Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad. He had his primary education from Kuchlak a suburb of Quetta and his research and academic activities date back to 1980 when he started teaching at the University of Baluchistan. He is also known for his administrative and academic contributions in many universities while he has played vital role in launching civil engineering program and Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences at IIUI with his personal efforts.
University officials have shown profound pleasure on positive developments in the shape of permanent leadership of university, as recently IIUI witnessed appointment of Dr. Al-Draiweesh as its president for further four years and now IIUI got a permanent Rector as well. Most of the officials have termed this progress meaningful while saying it would help to take practical steps regarding long term policies.
To congratulate the Rector IIUI a felicitation ceremony was held at new campus which was conducted by Director General AF&P Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja. The ceremony was attended by all DGs, Deans, Directors, Administrative officers, faculty members and many other employees.
“University has now acquired a comprehensive and permanent leadership which is positive omen and today on the sacred day of Arafa we have received a remarkable pleasure in shape of Dr. Masoom’s appointment. We are happy because Rector IIUI and President IIUI are personalities having great exposure, vision and this leadership would pave the way for varsity’s success”, said IIU’s veteran Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja while felicitating Dr. Masoom Yasinzai in the ceremony.
Deans extended their heartiest felicitations and hoped Rector IIUI would set new trends of research at university. They also lauded his role for promotion of academic research in the country while mentioning his services at QAU and Baluchistan University.

All the Directors lauded Dr. Masoom’s caliber of understanding technical and official matters while they hoped IIUI would soon make its place among the ranks of leading international universities under his leadership. Director female campus, Students’ Advisor (male), faculty members and other employees also felicitated Dr. Masoom Yasinzai.
“Work for the internationalization of IIUI is our top most priority and we would work for its further enhancement, energization by calling philanthropists, Ummah’s leader to make this institution a unique hub of recognition of Muslims” Said Rector IIUI while addressing the ceremony. He reiterated his resolve to further expand bilateral ties with other universities and vowed to strengthen the hands of Dr. Al-Draiweesh while appreciating his untiring efforts for the university.
Dr. Masoom stressed mutual respect among all the employees and thanked all for felicitating him on the appointment. He asked IIUI officials to make everyday a productive day with a passion of country’s progress and universities development. He said that work on solar project of 10 MW would soon be initiated which would introduce new trends of university’s progress while he said it would help in financial uplift of the university.
He also appreciated the efforts of President Mamnoon Hussain and Pro Chancellor IIUI Professor Dr. Suliman A. Aba Al-Khail for progress of the university. He vowed to utilize his past experience of administration and research and assured that he would remain available all the time for the guidance. Dr. Masoom maintained that research students are the real strength of the university and they would be of top concentration while he added that measures for creating balance in teaching and research would be taken.

The delegation lead by course coordinator Waheed Ahmed, later, was given a detailed briefing about the university by Hairan Khattak in which elaborated the objectives and the very core goals of IIUI. Hairan Kahttak apprised the participants about the distinctions of Islamic University in different fields and its contributions as IIUI is one of the top leading universities that producing highly qualified talented graduate duly integrated with the teachings of Islam. He also made them aware about the admission process and its whole criteria. Harian Khattak also explained the vital role and services of IIUI academies and constituents unites in detail. Participants took keen interest in knowing details about university faculties and constituent units; they took interest, ask some queries regarding admission process. Later on, Participants also visited central library and male campus of the university.

The point was agreed on the occasion of the visit of a 15-member Thai delegation to IIUI on Wednesday. The delegation was headed by Tomwit Jarnson along with education experts, officials from ministry of education of Thailand and students of Thailand. Delegation’s meeting with the IIUI Rector was also attended by Director General AF&P Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja.

It was agreed in the meeting that in lieu of further extending the bilateral cooperation measures for signing MoUs would be taken while both sides showed keen interest in exchange of students and scholars.

Ambassador of Thailand said that a number of Thai students have been showing keen interest for education in Pakistan, specially at IIUI, as it offers vital academic programs such as in Islamic Banking and finance, translation and Arabic language. He said Thai government values its relationships with Pakistan while he also assured support for academic linkage between Pakistani and Thai educational institutions. Tomwit Jarnson and Thai delegates lauded the harmonious and multi-cultural milieu being provided at IIUI. Delegates asked questions regarding various academic programs and possibilities of bilateral projects which were briefly answered by Dr. Masoom Yasinzai.

Speaking on the occasion, Rector IIUI said that university appreciates the interest of Thai students in its programs and they would be provided assistance and cooperation on priority basis. He added that university is a hub of various cultures and religions where students are being nurtured in an atmosphere of mutual respect and religious harmony.

Responding to a question regarding IIUI collaborations and its work for dissemination of peace, Dr. Masoom Yasinzai said internationalization is leading agenda of the university and Thai government and students would find IIUI doors wide open for mutual cooperation.

“Islam is religion of peace and mutual respect, IIUI while following these vital attributes of Islam not only works for discouraging the attitude of radicalization but also portrays an example of religious harmony as students of various religions study at university in sectarianism free and peaceful environment” he added. He said IIUI not only discourages the attitudes of violence and rigidity but also it has been a solution provider for these challenges through its renowned scholars who have been presenting Islam’s message of peace and tranquility on various international forums. Rector IIUI also assured that Thai students would be welcomed also in future in all academic programs while he assured that he would remain all times available for paving the way of MoUs of mutual cooperation between both sides.

Later, the delegation was given a detailed briefing about the university by Gulzar Ahmed Khwaja. He told that nearly hundred Thai students were studying at IIUI in previous semester while furthermore have been enrolled in ongoing semester which commenced this month. He also answered to various queries of the students of the delegation.

Exchange of gifts and shields also took place at the end where university crests and publications were presented to the Thai Ambassador and delegates by Rector IIUI while a gift of books was also presented to Dr. Masoom Yasinzai by Mr. Tomwit Jarnson.

The workshop was attended by house wives and by women of different aspects of life where lectures and skills of children care in the light of Islam were introduced to them by DCW officials. The workshop was aimed at providing guidelines to women regarding brought up of children in the light of Islamic teachings while lectures on children psychology. br>
A concluding ceremony of the workshop was held at DCW which was attended by Deputy Director General Dawah Academy Dr. Imtiaz Zafar as chief guest. It was also attended by Incharge DCW Shagufta Omar and other DCW officials.

He appreciated DCW’s role in society building and hoped the centre would keep arranging such activities in future.
