IIUI TO HOLD SEMINAR ON “HEC PLAGIARISM POLICY & ITS SOFTWARE TURNITIN”
Quality Enhance Cell (QEC) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) is organizing a workshop on “HEC Plagiarism Policy & Its Software Turnitin” on Wednesday, 3rd July, 2013, 10.30 AM at Seminar Room, Central Library, Main Campus, H-10, Islamabad.

Resource persons of workshop will be Mr. Munir Ahmed Deputy Director (Quality Assurance Division) from HEC Islamabad who is also working as focal person for all Pakistani Universities regarding plagiarism.

In the first part of the session, HEC Plagiarism Policy will be covered whereas in second part, Munir Ahmed will demonstrate Turnitin software (Plagiarism Prevention Service). Deans, Director Generals, Chairpersons, Incharges, Directors, Faculty members and Research students will attend the workshop.

NAB APPROVES CLOSURE OF CASE AGAINST IIUI OFFICIALS
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has closed the enquiry against Saif ur Rehman, Additional Director (Transport) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and his other colleagues. According to the Notification of NAB, Reference No: DG NAB (R) Auth letter No. 2(296)/I/NAB(R)/2012, dated 28-06-2012 “A case was investigated against the subject officials of CTU IIUI under the provisions of National Accountability Bureau Ordinance (NAO) 1999 on the allegations of Corruption and Corrupt practices through “embezzlement in fuel funds”.

The notification further stated that “Based on the final inquiry report, the Director General NAB Rawalpindi has approved closure of the case”. The said notification of NAB shows that every thing in International Islamic University, Islamabad is going smooth and university authorities are trying their best to maintain transparency in the financial matters to the best of their capabilities. The present decision of the NAB is the proof of this transparent system.

The decision also clarifies that Saif ur Rehman and his colleagues has performed their duties with honesty and devotion, and after a comprehensive inquiry of NAB no evidence of embezzlement was found.

VP IIUI URGES RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS TO DEVISE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM ACCORDING TO CONTEMPORARY REQUIREMENTS
Mulla and Sufi are sacred names of Muslim history, unfortunately both were portrayed negatively by some anti Islamic elements, they are integral part of the society who should put aside their cultural differences and promote attitude of mutual respect like our ancestors.

This was stated by Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman, Vice President International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and Director General, Dawah Academy, while addressing the concluding ceremony of the ‘80th Islamic Training Program’ for Aima organized by Dawah Academy of (IIUI).

Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman said that Aima should represent themselves as role model to youth because it is need of hour that Ulema come forward and guide Ummah while discouraging personal conflicts and sectarianism. “We require a voice equipped with knowledge, research, wisdom and vast experience which may lead us towards the destination of peace, harmony and prosperity” VP IIUI said. While expressing views on educational system, he said it must be revised as it lacks adequate representation of Muslim history. “It is quite unfortunate there is not a single subject which covers Seerat un Nabi completely. While referring towards the message of Iqbal he said that instead of being a mob we (Muslims) must be united and work together for this cause. Stressing upon the need of active role of religious institutions he said they should devise their educational system according to contemporary requirements which would result in production of great scholars who may help Muslims to face the preset challenges in far better way.

He urged Aima to promote peace among the public and educate them about the exemplary life of Prophet (PBUH). “Aima have the responsibly to deal with misconceptions against Islam, a large number of people in west embrace Islam after studying Quranic verses but they get disappointed when observe present situation of Muslims, we have to work hard to disseminate actual message of our religion”.

Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman was of the view that scholars are asset of Muslim Ummah, if they eliminate their personal conflicts and uphold tolerance and mutual respect, a day would come when whole world would endorse Islam. At the end, certificates were distributed among the participants of the Training Program.

FATHER OF SYED NAVEED EHTESHAM DIED
The father of Syed Naveed Ehtesham, Deputy Director, Iqra College of Technology of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) died at the age of 67 in Haiderabad. He had been suffering heart patient for many years. His funeral procession offered at his native residence in Haiderabad Sindh. Notables from family, social and political personalities also offered funeral. Acting president IIUI Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Vice President IIUI, Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman other staff members expressed their grief over the big loss of Syed Naveed Ehtesham. They also prayed of forgiveness for the soul and patience for the family.

DELEGATION OF MAURITANIA VISITS IIUI
A 3 members delegation of judges of supreme court of Mauritania led by Mr. Justice Sidi Yahefdhou, Chief Justice, Supreme Court of Mauritania visited International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) yesterday. Mr. Justice Ba Moukhtar and Cheikh Atih Cheikh Ahmed Mahmoud, Judges, Supreme Court of Mouritania were also with him. While Senior Judge of Federal Shariat Court Pakistan Justice Fida Muhammad Khan, Justice Ahmed Farooq and Justice Shehzado Sheikh were also with foreign delegation.

While expressing his views Mr. Justice Sidi Yahefdhou said that the grand reception would be memorable for them, received at International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). He said that Mauritania has deep rooted relations of Islamic brotherhood with the Pakistan. He said that we adopted colour and design of national flag and official name of Pakistan for Mauritania. Chief Justice further said that IIU has special status not only in Pakistan but the whole Islamic world also for its educational services. Islamic University is a beautiful combination of conventional and advance education. He said that he would suggest to government to establish a university in Mauritania of the same model of IIUI. He ensured that we would cooperate with Islamic University to promote educational activities.

Dr. Mumtaz while talking to the delegation said that we have pleasant relations of Islamic brotherhood with Mauritania. We would oblige any kind of cooperation and collaboration for education with Mauritania. Dr. Mumtaz said that personals from judiciary, law and its associated institutions of Mauritania would be proffered if they come and join the courses offered by Shariah Academy of IIUI. He thanked to the justices of Federal Shariat Court of Pakistan who have arranged the visits of various Chief Justices of Muslim countries.

Earlier Dr. Sohail Hassan briefed the members of delegation in detail about university, its associated institutions, academics programmes and publications. Later on the delegation also visited grand Faisal Mosque and old Campus of the university.

Dr. Talib Hussain Sial, Director IRD, Dr. Zia ul Haq, Dean Faculty of Shariah & Law, IIUI and Dr. Zaitoon Begum, Director Female Campus, IIUI were also present on the occasion.

AKBAR KHAN AWARDED FELLOWSHIP UNDER IRSIP
Muhammad Akbar Khan (Lecturer in Law) at the Faculty of Shariah & Law (FSL), International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) has been awarded research fellowship under the International Research Support Initiative Program (IRSIP) of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad.

Akbar Khan is doing PhD in (Islamic Law & Jurisprudence) and writing his thesis on the subject of Consumer Protection in Shariah and Law. He will spend a period of 6 months at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, during his stay he will thoroughly study the consumer protection law and policy in the United Kingdom. Akbar Khan is a young faculty member of FSL and teaching to the students of various degree programs at IIUI since 2009.

 

 

IIUI STUDENTS ARRANGE LECTURE ON “WELCOME RAMADAN”
Female students of Department of Bio informatics & Bio technology of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) arranged an illuminating lecture on “Welcome Ramadan” in Female campus of the university. Dr. Kanwal Kaiser, Head of Kids Department at ALHUDA International was guest speaker of the lecture while Dr. Zatioon Begum, Director Female Campus and Dr. Asma Gul Chairperson Department of Bio informatics and Bio technology were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr kanwal said that the month of Ramadan teaches about Taqwa and it makes the life of a Muslim disciplined and according to the teachings of Islam. . “Controlling ones desires ultimately leads him towards the reward promised by the Almighty and Ramadan is the month which doubles the opportunities to mould ones soul according to the will of God” She said. She urged the student to adopt the message of Quran in their practical lives. Dr. Knawal said that Ramdan is the month when we can vow to give up negative attitude and adopt the positive ones.

She was of the view that Ramadan strengthens one’s ties with Allah and trains the soul to perform duties with devotion in accordance with the teachings of Qur’an. Students took keen interest in the lecture and asked various questions related to Ramadan.

BD UNIVERSITIES STUDENTS VISIT IIUI
A 40-member delegation comprising students from various universities of Bangladesh visited International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) as part of their study tour to Pakistan where they called on Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Acting President IIU.

The visit was arranged by the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad. The delegation consisted of students from University of Dhaka, Rajshahi University, University of Chittagong, Jahangirnagar University. Delegation was led by Dr. Aslam Hussain, Deputy Registrar Rajshahi University.

Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad warmly welcomed to every member of the delegation. While addressing to the students, he shared personal experience of his visit of Bangladesh. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed said that Pakistan and Bangladesh have deep rooted long historical, cultural, social and religious ties. He said that Bangladeshis live in our heart and we proud of their development and progress in all fields of the life. He went on that, exchange of students and academia is very helpful for strengthening bilateral relations and to understand each others views and perceptions by removing the misconception prevailing on both sides.

Dr. Mumtaz offered the students of Bangladesh, that if any one wants to take admission in IIUI he or she would be highly encouraged, preferred and facilitated on priority basis. He also promised that they would be specially obliged in International Islamic University by all the means.

Dr. Aslam Hussain, also thanked IIUI on its very warm welcome. He said that the reception received in IIU was very much gracious and memorable. Students of Bangladesh expressed immense pleasure after visited in International Islamic University. They specially admired the hospitality and environments of the university.

Earlier, the delegation was received at New Campus of the IIUI by Addl. Director Protocol & Public Relations, Hairan Khattak while Addl. Director (Academics) Syed Hassan Aftab briefed the delegation in detail about the history, objectives, academic programs and future plans of the university. He made the delegation aware about admissions being continued in the university. The delegation also visited Female and Male campuses in New Campus and central library of the university. After that the delegation also paid visit to the Grand Faisal Masjid, old campus of the university. At the end Dr. Mumtaz distributed gifts among the members of delegation, they would also served lunch at IRD Guest House of the university.

IIUI TO ACCOMMODATE STUDENTS OF BALUCHISTAN ON PRIORITY BASIS, DR. MUMTAZ AHMAD
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) is the leading institution which has always enrolled maximum students from Baluchistan in comparison of other universities of Pakistan, province was ignored since emergence of the country but now special measures taken by the present government show that it really desires to improve the situation of province on priority basis.

These views were expressed by Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Acting President of the university during 15th Islamic training program for the students of Baluchistan organized by Children’ Literature Department of Dawah Academy and Iqbal Institute for Research and Dialogue.

Dr Mumtaz Ahmed said it is quite unfortunate that after 1972 no representative government was formed in the province due to that situation of Baluchistan could not improve. On the occasion, he assured that IIUI would not only accommodate students from Baluchistan on priority basis but university would also cooperate with them according to its financial resources. He stressed upon the Baloch students that they should work hard for development of the country while saying that always an organized, lawful and constitutional struggle for the achievement of prerogatives becomes successful.

Earlier, Vice President IIUI and Director General Dawah Academy Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman while addressing the ceremony said that Baluchistan is that remarkable part of the country which has valuable contribution in Pakistan Movement. He said that despite of conspiracies patriot people of Baluchistan always protected ideology of Pakistan and its territory. He said that youth is real power of the nation which in future would have to take the responsibility of country’s development. He added that Dawah Academy and IRD would always keep their doors open for cooperation with youth of the country. He advised the students that they should adopt the message of Quran in their practical lives as it could bring real revolution in the life a Muslim. At the end, certificates of course completion and gifts of books from Dawah Academy were distributed among the participants.

DR. AHSAN-UR-REHMAN PRESENTS THESIS ON HUROOFULMUQATTA‘AT
A presentation based on the PhD thesis of Dr. Ahsan-ur-Rehman was given in the Islamic Research Institute (IRI) Seminar by the author. The title of the presentation was HuroofulMuqatta‘at; A Stylistic view. In his presentation Dr. Ahsan explained how the whole work was carried out.

He briefed about the views of different scholars regarding the subject. During the presentation many scholars from East and West were quoted who had given different interpretations of these letters. While briefing about the method of thesis, Dr. Ahsan-ur-Rehman told that first the letters were segmented into phonemes, then the templates made from these phonemes were checked in the chapters of the Holy Qur’an and the data was presented in graph forms to show that there was marked difference between those chapters which had these letters prefixed and those that did not. Next patterns made of these templates were checked in the said chapters and for stylistic purpose the meaning of the said alphabet were combined as names of the letters in the Arabic traditions. Lastly these patterns were analyzed stylistically to show their significance. After presenting his method in theory, one letter /raa/ was traced in Surah Yousuf to show practically how it worked.

Dr Mohammad Ghazali; Professor International Islamic University chaired the session, Dr. Ayaz Afsar, supervisor of the thesis also presented his views on the work saying that it was a linguistic work that continued in the tradition of early scholars. Dr. Suhail, Director General IRI closed the session with his remarks on the subject.

WORKSHOP FOR KHUTBA, AIMA CONCLUDES
MATTERS OF IJTIHAD SHOULD BE DEALT WITHOUT ANY BIAS; SAYS MAULANA RASHDI
Renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Zahid-al-Rashdi has said that giving ‘Fatwas’ on the basis of differences in interpretation of ‘Aqeedah’, is not an appropriate attitude, Ulema should hold necessary research and consultation in matters of Fiqh before reaching at any conclusion and the element of personal opinion must be excluded in this regard.

He was addressing to the concluding ceremony as chief guest of a two-day workshop titled “Role of Aima & Khutba in establishment of a society with mutual respect and tolerance” organized by the Shariah Academy of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and International Forum for promotion of tolerance, Jordan. Vice President IIUI Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman presided over the ceremony while Director General Shariah cademy Dr. Muhammad Tahir Mansoori, staff of Shariah academy and the participants of the workshop were also present.

Maulana Rashdi said that matters which require Ijtihad should be dealt without any bias. “It is a contemporary requirement that Muslims should forget their sectarian differences and get united because it would provide a foundation towards a way of development and peace” he said. He urged Ulema to adopt Ijtihad on collective level instead of individual and also stressed upon them to broaden their thoughts further. He suggested that Ulema should introduce consultation councils to provide guidance to the people on important religious issues while hoping it would further reduce the distances among the public and scholars.

Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman, in his address said that Ulema and Aima are the proud of Muslim Ummah who can be a source of positive change in the society. He urged Ulema to put aside sectarian differences and work for the cause of image building of Muslims. He added that young Ulema have a huge responsibility on their shoulders; they have to bring Ummah under one flag. VP IIUI said that Islam is the religion of peace and Ulemah can play a pivotal role in dissemination of this message.

On the second day of the workshop during various sessions Dr. Ismat Ullah, head department of Fiqh of Islamic Research Institute, Dr. Muhammad Tahir Hakeem, head department of Fiqh of Faculty of Shariah and Law and Maulana Misbah-ur-Rehman Yousfi delivered lectures on important topics of workshop.

At the end of ceremony, Dr. Tahir Mansoori presented shield to Maulana Rashdi while workshop completion certificates were also given to the participants.

ABDUL NASIR LATIF COMPLETES PHD IN ISLAMIC STUDIES
Abdul Nasir Latif student of Faculty of Usuluddin of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has completed his PhD degree in Islamic Studies. Topic of his dissertation was “Al-Imam Sho’bah Criticized Issues against him and its impact of his Narration of Ahadith”. Abdul Nasir Latif completed his thesis under the supervision of Dr. Fateh ur Rehman Qureshi, Asst. Professor IIUI while Dr. Abdul Khaliq Kazi, Melbourne, Australia and Prof. Dr. Al-Ameen El-Sadiq, Department of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Education, University of Kassala, Republic of Sudan were the foreign evaluators of his thesis.

 

 

 

Viva Voce of PhD Student in IIIE
The viva voce examination of Mr. Saud Ahmad Khan student of Ph.D Econometrics vide registration # 09-SE/Ph.D(Et)/F04 on his Ph.D Dissertation entitled “ HEDGING, AN ISLAMIC APPROACH” is scheduled to be held on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. in the Virtual Class Room, IIIE (Male Campus).
All faculty members of IIIE are requested to attend the defense of thesis / dissertation. The MS / Ph.D students are also directed to attend the viva.

TALENTED STUDENTS OF BALUCHISTAN ATTENDED IOP OF IIUI
Dawah Academy of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) conducted, 15th seven days Islamic Orientation Programme (IOP) for the talented and position holders students from Baluchistan. 40 students of different educational institutions of Baluchistan including technical, medical, management and social sciences participated in IOP.

On the concluding of course 40 members delegation visited different faculties, central library of new Campus of the university. Additional Director Syed Hassan Aftab briefed the students about history, objective and purpose of establishment of the university. He also gave brief account about the admission process being continue to the students.

Students of delegation also asked various questions and took keen interest in admissions. Addl. Director Protocol & Public Relations were also present during the briefing session.

 

IIUI HOLDS WORKSHOP ON “ROLE OF AIMA & KHUTBA IN ESTABLISHMENT OF A SOCIETY WITH MUTUAL RESPECT AND TOLERANCE”
Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani has said that to establish the attitude of respect and tolerance in the society we have to change ourselves first, we can make this earth a heaven by adopting the culture of respect of opinion and patience.

He expressed these views as chief guest in two-day workshop titled “Role of Aima & Khutba in establishment of a society with mutual respect and tolerance” organized by the Shariah Academy of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and International Forum for promotion of tolerance, Jordan.

The workshop, organized for Aima and Khutba of twin cities was presided over by Director General Shariah Academy Dr. Muhammad Tahir Mansoori while renowned scholars including Maulana Mufti Muhammad Zahid of Jamia Imdadia Faisalabad, Maulana Abdul-Aziz Hanif, Khateeb Jamia Masjid G-6 Islamabad and Dr. Sohail Hassan, DG Islamic Research Institute IIUI were also present on the occasion.

Maulana Sheerani said if we don’t impose our views forcibly on others, we can lead our society towards peace and prosperity. “We should renounce sectarianism, lack of tolerance and bias attitude to face the upcoming challenges of the world, Ummah certainly needs unity and in order to achieve this goal Muslims should mould their lives according to the teachings of Islam” he said. He discussed tolerance with the references of various religions in his address and stressed upon the Muslims to apply this salient feature of Islam in their practical lives. He added that Aima can play vital role to produce a tolerant and cooperative society.

Maulana Mufti Muhammad Zahid and Maulana Abdul-Aziz Haneef also delivered speeches on the occasion and enlightened participants with valuable information on the topic. Earlier, Dr Tahir Mansoori in his welcoming remarks said that difference of opinion should not be a source of conflict but the society should discourage rigidity in views. He also highlighted the goals and objectives of the workshop.
Second day of the workshop would start at 9 am today (Tuesday) at Allama Iqbal auditorium of Faisal Mosque campus.

8 EMPLOYEES TO AVAIL OPPORTUNITY OF UMRAH
Eight employees of International Islamic university Islamabad (IIUI) would be provided the opportunity to perform Umrah this year. Four employees will be given this opportunity by the President IIUI Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh while rest would be sent for Umrah by university welfare fund Scheme.

This was decided after a lucky draw held here in the male campus of the university. President IIUI Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Vice President IIUI, Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman and a large number of the employees participated in the ceremony of lucky draw.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Al-Draiweesh said that every Muslim wishes to perform the Umrah and join the sacred environment of Baitullah and Masjid-e-Nabvi, and today, those who were chosen to avail the opportunity are lucky. “Hajj and Umrah is the omen of unity of Muslims, Baitullah is the place where no concept of discrimination, race or color prevails and same practice we should adopt to deal with the contemporary problems” he said. While congratulating the university welfare fund committee on successfully holding the lucky draw the President IIUI announced that he would provide an opportunity to four employees of IIUI to perform Umrah. He also quoted Hadiths regarding Umrah and its special importance in Ramadan. He urged the participants to act upon on the teachings of Holy Prophet (PBUH) and stressed upon them to shape their lives in the light of Islam. He vowed that IIUI would make this platform more active so that more employees could get the opportunity to see the Holy soil of Makkah.

Those who were chosen through lucky draw for Umrah include Ansar-ur-Rehman, Nazar Hussain, Obaid Ullah, Safiullah Khan, Ashiq Hussain, Dr. Muhammad Shahid Rafie, Shahid Mehmood Sunny and Khalid Hussain. Four of the employees would be sponsored by President IIUI while expenses of the rest of the four lucky employees would be paid from university welfare fund.

ARABIC LANGUAGE COURSE FOR DEANS, DIRECTORS CONCLUDES
A two-month Arabic language course for deans and directors of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized by Arabic language centre of Faculty of Arabic concluded here on Friday. The course was focused on making officials familiar with basic written and spoken Arabic language. President IIUI Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh was the chief guest of the concluding ceremony while Dean Faculty of Arabic Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Bashir, teachers and participants of the course were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Al-Draiweesh said that Arabic is official language of the university and it is a requisite for all the officials to get familiar with it. He said that Arabic is the language of heaven and a great heritage of Muslims is in Arabic, they should explore this enormous treasure by learning it. “Seek for knowledge is prestige of a Muslims, we should always keep striving for seeking knowledge in all parts of our lives” President IIU said. He was of the view that art of learning multiple languages not only helps to interpret culture and thought of a society but it also guarantees success in the various fields of life. He also announced on the occasion that bright performer of next course will be given an opportunity to perform Umrah. Dr Al-Draiweesh also lauded the efforts of Arabic Language Centre for promotion of Arabic.
At the end of the ceremony, President IIU awarded course completion certificates to the participants.

UNIVERSITY BE OBSERVE STRICT RULE & REGULATION, DR. AL- DRAIWEESH
University administration and heads of academics department must manage to solve out every kind of students’ problem on priority bases but there would be no compromise on the observance of rules and regulations in the university premises. These views were expressed by the Presidents IIUI Pro Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh while speaking to 5th steering committee of the university. On the occasion, in addition to Vice President Prof. Dr. Sajid ur Rehman heads of academic departments and administration were also present.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that the dynamic socialization process required, along with the formal education in university. He said that there is a need to construct social and moral attitude of the students an idealist on the bases of Islamic values. Dr. Al-Draiweesh instructed to departmental heads that they may give priority to solve out the problems of students, so they may not feel any inconvenience. He expressed his views that the university needs an environment of brotherhood and close interaction between students and teachers.

He wished that the faculty member arrange a secession in which they exchange of views with students. President cleared the point that, miscreants would not be allowed in university and dealt with strictness. Committee discussed the agenda of proposed seminars, workshops and conferences including, seminar on IIUI today & future vision, Donor conference of the Department of Education, IIUI 9th Convocation, International conference on evaluation of family issues in the list of Shariah & Law, 5th International Applied Business Research Conference. The committee agreed on the point that keeping the tradition alive, it stressed on the need to arrange more seminars, workshops and special lectures for the social, moral and mental betterment of the students.

OWA SHOWS FULL CONFIDENCE IN LEADERSHIP OF SAHIBZADA SAJID-UR-REHMAN
Officers Welfare Association (OWA) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in its meeting on Thursday has shown full confidence in the leadership of Vice President IIUI Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman and termed his restoration as a positive step for the betterment of the university. The meeting was attended by President OWA Raja Munir Ahmed, Vice President OWA Saif-ur-Rehman, General Secretary Rana Asghar Ali, Joint Secretary Hawa Yasin, Finance Secretary Noor Hussain and members of Executive Body.

The Association, while lauding the services of Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman for the development of the university, assured that it would fully cooperate with the Vice President for the betterment of the university. Participants of the meeting said that university would achieve its goals and objective in minimum time under the leadership of Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman.

AHSAN-UR-REHMAN COMPLETES PHD IN ENGLISH
Ahsan-ur-Rehman of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has completed his Ph. D degree in English. Topic of his dissertation was “ Morpho Phonemic Patterns in the Prefixed Chapters of the Holy Quran: A stylistic Approach”. Ahsan-ur-Rehman completed his thesis under the supervision of Ayaz Afsar while Dr. Mustafa Shah, Dept. of Language & Cultures, University of London and Dr. Abdul Raheem Qidwai of Ali Garh Muslim University, India were the evaluators of his thesis.

IIUI WITNESSES REMARKABLE WELCOME OF RESTORED VP
Vice President International Islamic University (IIU), Professor Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman has joined his office on Wednesday after his restoration as Vice President, granted by Islamabad High Court (IHC) on an intra court appeal. On Tuesday, IHC suspended the order of a judge declaring the appointment of Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman illegal.

Vice President IIUI, on his arrival, was warmly welcomed by a large number of officers, Deans of Faculties and other university employees. Bouquets were presented to Sahibzada Sajid ur-Rehman by the IIUI employees of male and female campuses of the university, immense joy and excitement was witnessed on the occasion.

Later, addressing to the university employees Sahibazada Sajid-ur-Rehman thanked all for his remarkable welcome after his restoration. He stressed on the employees to devote their selves for the betterment of IIUI and advised them to refrain from personal differences and biasness. “I dedicated 40 years of my life to IIUI, I never took a single decision based on favouritism or personal interest and in future same would continue” VP IIU said. He said he would not take any action of revenge against those who propagated against him. He added that IIUI staff would have to develop a milieu of brotherhood and unity for the progress of the institution. He termed the protection of the ordinance of university as strength of it while saying that it was prime obligation of everybody to maintain and protect the integrity and prestige of the IIU ordinance.

On the occasion, he also lauded the role of Rector IIUI, Dr. Mazoom Yasinzai and President IIU, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh for the progress and betterment of the university. He said IIU was fortunate that it found two high profile and multi-talented personalities who head this institution. He hoped that IIU would achieve its goals within minimum time under the leadership of Dr. Al-Draiweesh. He also assured of every possible support to IIU President in this regard.

IHC RESTORES VICE PRESIDENT IIUI, DR. SAHIBZADA SAJID UR REHMAN
On the Intra Court Appeal of Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman, Vice President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) a Division Bench of Islamabad High Court set aside the impugned judgment by Justice Shoukat Aziz Siddiqui, dated 29-05-2013 and ordered him to continue working as Vice President IIUI. On application of members of University Staff Welfare Association (USWA), Justice Shoukat Aziz Siddiqui of IHC declared appointment of Prof. Dr. Sajid ur Rehman illegal as a Vice President of IIUI.

54TH SHARIAH COURSE FOR JUDGES, LAW OFFICERS CONCLUDES
The concluding ceremony of the 54th Shariah course took place at Shariah Academy Faisal Masjid campus of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). Director General Shariah Academy Dr. Tahir Mansoori was the chief guest of the ceremony. During the sixteen week course the participants availed the golden opportunity to visit different countries including Egypt, turkey and some of the Middle Eastern countries, where they also visited their law and justice institutions, and studied their contemporary judicial system. During the foreign visit Participants also got an opportunity to interact with law experts of that specific country.

They analyzed and compared that judicial and justice system with Pakistani and Islamic judicial and justice system and its practices in Pakistan. At the end of the foreign visit participants of the course also performed Ummra. Participants were also awarded certificates on the successfully completion of their course. The course lasted for sixteen weeks.

 

DR. IMTIAZ ZAFAR APPOINTED DEPUTY DG DAWAH
Associate Prof. and Chairman of Training Department of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) Dr. Muhammad Imtiaz Zafar has been appointed as Deputy Director General Dawah Academy. According to the office order Dr. Imtiaz would look after the matters of the academy under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI.

 

 

 

 

FACULTY OF SHARIAH & LAW ORGANIZES SEMINAR ON “WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION (WTO) AND ITS IMPLEMENTATION IN PAKISTAN”
A one day seminar on “World Trade Organization (WTO) and its implementation in Pakistan” was organized by the Shariah and Law Department (FSL), Female Campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad. The purpose of the seminar was to bring awareness among the students regarding WTO Agreements, to discuss the role of Pakistan in international negotiations on trade at the WTO forum and implementation of WTO Agreements in Pakistan.

The Chief Guest of the seminar was Dr. Faizullah Khilji, former Chairman National Tariff commission (NTC). The seminar was presided over by Dr. Zia ul Haq , Dean FSL and Mrs. Samia Maqbool, Chairperson FSL. Among the speakers were Mr. Hamood ur Rauf, Director investigations in NTC, Mr. Salman Farooq, Advocate High Court and Mrs. Nida Zahra Lecturer FSL. All faculty members and a large number of students from LLB and LLM attended the seminar. The coordinator of the programme was Mrs. Nida Zahra, Lecturer FSL.

Speakers and the participants discussed important aspects trade negotiations between the different countries of the world after First World War under GATT and formation and development of WTO, Principles of International trade under WTO and Possibility of Trade Related Human Rights Measures under WTO and limitations.

The participants showed keen interest in all the topics and hoped that the activities would continue in future.

DR. ZAFAR IQBAL VISITS US, DEVISES STRATEGY TO NEUTRALIZE NEGATIVE FALL OUTS OF MEDIA POLEMICS
Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Chairman Department of Media and Communication Studies, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) spent the Spring 2013 semester at Annenberg School of Communication, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, United States, working on a research project that addressed Islamophobia in the US mass media, and devised a strategy to neutralize to negative fall outs of media polemics. During his stay Dr. Zafar participated in seminars, workshops and reached out to many on campus who shared his research interests as well as researching and writing.

Dr. Zafar’s research focused on as how the American news media covered Muslim reaction to “Innocence of Muslims” a low-budget, anti-Muslim film that sparked protests in several Islamic countries. His subsequent paper, “‘Innocence of Muslims’ in Western Media: Analyzing the Discourses and Developing a Prototype of Response Strategy,” provides an insightful analysis of how and why Americans’ sui generis experiences of diversity, First Amendment “rights,” and secularization may render the US news media—as well as its government and its citizens—unaware of the role of religion to believers worldwide. His research outcome also includes prescriptive suggestions for Muslim interventions to improve American news coverage. Dr Zafar Iqbal has been working on western media discourses for the last over five years. He, earlier, visited United Kingdom as a post-doc scholar and produced quality research in the same area, and is constantly engaged in studying Islamophobia in the West as a media construction.

SAUDI GOVT GIFTS CARPET TO FAISAL MOSQGIFTED CARPET OMEN OF EVERLASTING FRIENDSHIP, SAYS JASSIM AL-KHALIDI
Jassim Al-Khalidi, Charge’ d’ affaires of Saudi Embassy has said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have close brotherly relations, which are deeply rooted in historic and Islamic bonds. He expressed these views in a ceremony of placement of new carpet (gifted by Saudi Arabia) in Faisal Mosque Campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI). Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan Burhan Mohamed and ambassadors from various Islamic countries including Palestine, Oman, former caretaker Federal Minster Feroz Jamal Shah Kakakhel, Rector IIUI, Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, President IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and large number of university staff were also present on the occasion.

Jassim Al-Khalidi said that having a long history of bilateral fraternal relationship, the wellbeing of people of Pakistan carries very special importance for the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He said that the gifted carpet was an omen of everlasting friendship between both the countries. He assured of every possible cooperation with IIUI for the promotion of education while he also lauded the role of the University for providing quality education to the students of Muslim countries.ntries.

Earlier, in his welcoming remarks Dr. Al-Draiweesh thanked Saudi government for the gift of carpet and cooperation with IIUI. “IIUI always strives for providing quality education to students of Muslim Ummah as they are our real asset” President IIU said. He said Mosque has central role in Islamic society which provides a sense of unity among Muslims. He added that Muslims should refrain from extremism and violence and termed sectarianism a root cause of many problems of Muslim Ummah.

It is pertinent to mention that the cost of the gifted carpet is more than 30 million while 30 years back Saudi Government had also gifted the carpet to Faisal Mosque which is now replaced with the new one.

ULEMA SHOULD PLAY ROLE FOR POLIO ERADICATION; DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
Islam accords high importance to the health of children. Polio eradication vaccination is a service of humanity and Islam encourages all such efforts in this regard. These views were expressed by the President IIUI Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh on the occasion of two days international conference on the topic “Polio Eradication in The Light of Islam”.

The two days international conference held at IIUI with the collaboration of three international institutions Al-Azhar University Egypt, International Islamic University Islamabad and World Health Organization. In his welcoming address at conference president IIUI Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh thanked all participants for gathering to set forth new measures of polio eradication plan. He expressed immense pleasures that Scholars from Al-Azhar University, medical specialists from World Health Organization, religious scholars and medical doctors came across the world to Pakistan, joined hands for this humanitarian cause. President put the stress on the need to have consistent efforts for taking necessary steps for the eradication of Polio.

He said “Ulema e Din should feel responsibility to remove the misconceptions regarding Polio in mind of illiterates and make them aware about the polio virus. He highlighted the fact that Islam teaches about the rights of human body and emphasizes on securing body from such epidemic diseases like polio. President IIU said that the doors of IIUI would always remain open for the scholars and social workers, who are serving for the betterment of the Muslim Ummah. He appreciated the efforts of WHO for Polio eradication and offered full support, cooperation and coordination by all means for the polio eradication.

At the end, he prayed for the prosperity and progress of the Muslim Ummah. He articulated of his confidence about the positive outcome of the conference. Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman from Inter faith religious Council Balochistan, Dr. Muhammad Wesam from DarluIfta Al Missritya Saudi Arabia, Dr. Abul Qahir Muhammad Qamar from International Islamic Academy Jeddah Saudi Arabia, also shared their views regarding the polio eradication measures. At the end, the conference put certain recommendations and future plans pertaining to excel the polio campaign and vaccination. The notable scholars from Pakistan pledged to deliver a great resolution for the eradication of polio from polio endemic Muslim countries.

IIUI HOLDS SEMINAR ON “RAMPANT CORRUPTION IN PAKISTAN AND ITS POSSIBLE REMEDIES”
Corruption is the worst abuse which not only badly effects but also creates hurdles in the development of the society. Institutional failure and compromising attitude towards corruption are the root causes of this menace whereas mutual cooperation with the anti-corruption agencies and strong accountability mechanism can help to get rid of it.

These views were expressed by Justice (R) Shakir ullah Jan, Former Judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan, in seminar titled “Rampant Corruption in Pakistan and Its Possible Remedies” held at Faculty of Shariah and Law of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) here on Wednesday. Dean Faculty of Shariah and Law Dr. Zia ul Haq and other faculty members were also present on the occasion.

Justice Shakir ullah Jan said that non-democratic party system, low literacy rate, collapse of accountability system and social acceptance are the main causes of rampant corruption in Pakistan. He was of the view that media can play vital role to curb the hazard of corruption while positive role of the agencies working against corruption can also help to protect society from its effects. “Corruption can be controlled with will and devotion because it’s a pre-requisite to make our society a corruption free society”. Justice Shakir ullah said. He urged that strong governance and transparency must be applied in the institutions which he termed as leading solution of the said problem. He also apprised the audience about Pakistani law against corruption. Later, during the discussion in the seminar, participants and Justice Shakir ullah highlighted the complexities and legal technicalities in the cases of corruption. A souvenir was also presented to Justice Shakir ullah Jan by Faculty of Shariah and Law.

CEREMONY OF PLACEMENT NEW CARPETS IN FAISAL MOSQUE WILL BE HELD TODAY
The ceremony of placement of new carpets and pretentious things in Faisal Masjid will be held at 04:00 PM today in Faisal Masjid Campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) by the Saudi Government. The honour able Ambassador of Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Ghadeer will be the worthy chief guest of the ceremony.

In the press circular released by the Protocol & Public Relation Department of the IIUI, President IIUI Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh said that new carpets would be memorable gift to the Faisal Masjid by Khadim ul Haramain Al-Shareefain. It is worth mentioning that current carpets were also placed by the Saudi government 30 years before.

IIUI TO HOLD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON “ERADICATION OF POLIO”

Department of Law, Faculty of Shariah & Law of International Islamic University today (Wednesday) will arrange a seminar on “Rampant Corruption in Pakistan and its Possible Remedies”. Justice (R) Mian Shakirullah Jan, Ex-Judge Supreme Court of Pakistan and will deliver speech on the topic.

STRENGTHENING ISLAMIC ART IS THE NEED OF TIME; DR. AL-DRAIWEESH
Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) said that Promotion in Islamic Art is the need of time, it is utmost need to strengthen and develop this precious art, which is declining due to neglecting attitude of the society towards this rich assets of Muslim heritage. President IIUI was addressing at the occasion of visiting Islamic Art Exhibition held by the students of Islamic Art and Architecture of the university. Director Female Campus, Dr. Zaitoon Begum, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani and Senior faculty members Zarrar Haider, Attiya Abrar, were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that IIUI would arrange to send its faculty members and students to Saudi Arabia for their exposures in the said field. The farewell party held in Faisal Masjid Campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in honour of services of Egyptian faculty members who had been serving IIUI for three years. Honourable Ambassador of Egypt to Pakistan Saed Hindam wished to strengthen and enhance friendly relations with Pakistan. He said that “He wants that Egyptian Scholars, Teachers play their role for the uprising of education in Pakistan”. He further said that the contribution with Pakistani universities would continue. Saed Hindam praised and appreciated the services of IIUI and said that Islamic university is credibly considered in all Muslim Countries.

Earlier in his welcoming note president Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh thanked to all honourable guests for sparing their precious time. President IIUI admired the services of Egyptian teachers for the IIUI. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said “IIU feels proud to have foreign faculty members including Egypt, Saudi Arabia and from many other Muslim countries”. He made the participants aware about the upcoming educational projects that IIU is going to launch soon. At the end of the ceremony in his vote of thanks Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Rector IIU paid gratitude to all worthy guests and showed strong hope that Muslim countries would continue their cooperation with one another. Later on Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and Dr. Al-Draiweesh presented university shields to Egyptian teachers and worthy guests.

DR. AL-DRAIWEESH URGES MUSLIMS TO REFRAIN FROM EXTREMISM, SECTARIANISM
Muslims are moderate Ummah, They should keep themselves away from extremism and sectarianism. They have Quran as best source of solution of all their problems. This was stated by Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh during his sermon at the occasion of Juma at Fiasal Masjid here on Friday. The topic of the sermon was Surah Al-Teen of the Holy Quran. He said Humans are best creation; they should always be thankful for countless blessings granted to them by God and adopt the teachings of Islam. Muslims should always refrain from violence but they should also preach the message of peace.

President IIUI added that Almighty has blessed human beings with power of intellect and observation, we should utilize these powers and mold our souls and bodies according to will of God. “Allah has shown the right path (Sirat e Mustaqeem) to people now it’s up to them whether they adopt his given path or enjoy temporary happiness of this world” he said. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that Allah has announced best reward for those who practice good deeds and termed good deeds as real essence of life.
